Nicole Clarke-Springer isn't losing sleep over the final product; as a dancer and choreographer, she's more interested in the process. She says the communal nature of her work is what makes the performance authentic and affects the audience. Nicole shares with Jeanne why she threw out her plan to move to New York City for training; what the three points of collaboration are when she's choreographing and why they matter; how embracing the process contributes to her success; why listening to your intuition is important; and why she doesn't tell herself she will do better.Nicole Clarke-Springer, with a B.S. in arts administration-dance from Butler University, excelled early, honored as Butler Ballet's Outstanding Performer. Her career blossomed at Deeply Rooted Dance Theater (DRDT), starting as an apprentice before becoming a company member. Clarke-Springer's notable performances include working with Roberta Flack and Jennifer Holiday. She took a brief hiatus in 2007 to teach at Western Kentucky University and tour Istanbul with the Clifton Brown Dance Company. Returning to DRDT, she directed the Summer Dance Intensive, honed her choreographic skills with works like Nine and Femme, and contributed to Congo Square Theatre's Nativity. In 2013, she joined DRDT's Artistic Team and was spotlighted as an Emerging Choreographer for "Generations." Her piece Hadiya was acclaimed for its poignancy and tribute to victims of violence. Clarke-Springer's influence extended to choreographing for the Steve Harvey Show and teaching nationwide, including positions at Chicago State University and Northwestern University. Upholding Deeply Rooted's mission, she fosters an environment of spiritual affirmation, open dialogue, and accountability, leading to her appointment as Artistic Director in 2019.Website: deeplyrooteddancetheater.org instagram: @nikkispringer5facebook: Nicole Clarke-Springer

Broadway star Adrianna Hicks joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss acts of kindness during her Tony-winning new musical Some Like It Hot, the delights of working with Christian Borle and J Harrison Ghee, lessons learned from Jennifer Holiday during The Color Purple, self-kindness and so much more. Adrianna Hicks fell in love with performing at a young age, singing in church choirs in Texas. The musical theatre bug bit her bad in high school, prompting her to study it at University of Oklahoma. After racking up a slew of regional credits and tours under her belt, Adrianna made her Broadway debut in 2015 as a swing in The Color Purple. You'll find out during our discussion that this was truly a magical full circle moment. She went on to perform in Aladdin on Broadway and more recently, to originate the role of Catherine Aragon in the hit musical Six. Adrianna is currently (well depending on when you listen to this) playing the iconic role of Sugar in the Tony-winning sensation Some Like It Hot. You may know the part as being minted in Hollywood history by Marilyn Monroe during the late 50's MGM film, but Hicks brings her own joy and magic to the updated story. Got kindness tips or stories? Rosie O'Donnell is a beloved comedian, celebrated actress, and talk show legend. Despite all these professional accolades, it is perhaps her generosity of spirit, her tireless advocacy on behalf of children and families, and her heartfelt commitment to the health of the American theater that most definitively define her impact on popular culture.Born in Commack, New York on March 21, 1962, Rosie O'Donnell embarked on a career as a standup comedian right out of high school, and in short order found herself enjoying a five show winning streak on the iconic television series, “Star Search” Shortly thereafter, she scored additional major appearances on television, including a regular role as Maggie O'Brien on NBC's popular sitcom, “Gimme a Break” and a high profile run as a VH1 VJIn 1992, Rosie was cast alongside Tom Hanks, Madonna, and Geena Davis in the smash hit “A League of Their Own.” She went on to further success on the big screen, starring in twelve films between 1992 and 1996, including 1993's “Sleepless in Seattle,” 1995's “Now and Then,”and 1996's “Beautiful Girls.”Her most monumental break came by accepting NBC's offer to host a variety daytime television show, “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” in 1996. Rosie's innate love of all things show business and her easy rapport with the celebrities she had grown up idolizing translated into a unique and hugely popular TV phenomenon. “The Rosie O'Donnell Show” ran for six seasons and went on to win a variety of Emmy awards, leaving a memorable mark on American television before ending production in 2002.In the past 20 years, Rosie's dedication to her artistic endeavors and charitable interests have continued unabated. She has been a regular fixture on television, on Broadway, and, in recent years, has gotten rave reviews for her powerful performances in Showtime's “SMILF” and HBO's “I Know This Much is True.” She can currently be seen in the Showtime original series, “American Gigolo.”-bio adapted and edited from Rosie.com

We had the pleasure of interviewing Karine Hannah over Zoom video.Growing up in Canada, and at the age of sixteen, her performance on a Canadian television show caught the eye of none other than Celine Dion. The world-renowned diva went on to ask Karine to perform at her wedding. “That was really the start,” she recalls. “It was such an incredible moment, and I was driven to pursue this endlessly to fulfill my dreams as a world-class singer.” “It happened at a time when I least expected it,” the songstress continues. “I'd been working so hard for so long, and then Cash Money came into the picture.” Their partnership kicked off with Karine's incendiary debut single “Burning Up”, co-written and produced by Josh Harris. Climbing the Billboard charts and making it all the way to number five. That's only a prelude to what followed. Her next single co-written by Michael Jay called “Victory” which landed in the top 10 on the Billboard charts. Karine nods her vocal influences to legends such as Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Holiday, and as well as French and European artists she heard on the radio as a child. As a result, she's got something completely her own and electrifying. Ultimately, Karine stands poised to capture the world's attention with her voice. “I want people to feel something massive in their soul after listening to me interpret a song, whether it's an original or a cover tune,” I sing from the soul, and I hope it reaches listeners. Well, it looks like whatever I was supposed to get done has yet again been put off till Monday.  While the temps are pretty acceptable here in the ATL, we've had rain since Tuesday and it doesn't appear to be letting up until Sunday.  In fact, it's been raining steadily here all damn day.  Personally, I'm not a big fan of rain, but I understand that Mother Nature requires it as much as the state of Georgia.  Then again, I'm sure it never occurred to all those brainiacs in the state government to take the federal assistance money and build multiple water reserves to prevent future droughts similar to what we went through two years ago.  We've got great highways already, though the city of Atlanta constantly needs repaving and upgrades to their old water system.  Regardless, Atlanta is not all of Georgia, so I think the first suggestion makes the most sense.  Instead, they'll continue to file federal lawsuits against all the surrounding states fighting for their share of the Chattahoochee River which supplies 70% of the water for northern Georgia.  Brilliant.  I digress. Lucky for you guys (and gals), because I've got the fourth installment ready to go for your Saturday enjoyment.  As if the first three weren't enough, it just keeps getting better.  The first part of the mix starts off pretty dark and progressive with the now classic collaboration between the Pet Shop Boys and Peter Rauhofer "Break 4 Love" running through such giants as Ben Shaw (So Strong), New Order (Crystal) and Dido's massive "Thank You".  Ultimately, it breaks into one of the all-time house classics by Kings of Tomorrow "Finally" which has since been re-worked from every possible angle since it's initial release.  Of course, we also have the gargantuan anthem by Rosabel and Jennifer Holiday "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" which she originally sang in the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls" and was revived on the heels of the 2006 movie by the same name starring Jennifer Hudson.  In fact, both versions were duking it out on the dance charts at the same time (not unlike this year's "Hide U" by Kosheen and Suzanne Palmer).  We also got to taste the nasty "You're the Worst Thing For Me" by Pusaka featuring Thea Austin.  A song where the protagonist keeps going back to her cheating boyfriend even though he's a piece of shit.   Vicki Shepard would one up her a year later in the potty mouth category.  can't sleep at night, 'cause I'm losing my mind and I'm outta my head 'cause you're fucking my friend and I'm spending my cash, your depletin' my stash I'm addicted to you, even though you're the worst thing for me By the end of the year, Ceevox had pretty much taken over the floor with her massive "My Imagination".  With its serious pounding beats and gospel style vocalization this song was pretty inescapable anywhere you went.  Finally, I dropped in a personal favorite and definite floor filler by Missy Elliot "Get Ur Freak On".  While enjoying huge success at radio, her label wasn't quite up to marketing her to the "club crowd".  After this White Label bootleg came out, their tune changed by her next release.  As with all White Label bootlegs, they're generally not the best recordings in the world, namely because they are unauthorized.  I think I did a pretty decent job cleaning it up.  But I gotta tell ya, once this song was dropped, the floor just went crazy no matter how poor the quality.  It just goes to show that a good song is a good song even if it was being played back on 8-track. That's it for today.  I haven't decided if I'm going to release the fifth and final mix for this edition yet.  It will contain a bunch of odds and ends that didn't work in any of the preceding mixes, plus a few alternate versions of songs already used.  I'll just have to wait and see how it comes out before I make up my mind.  In the meantime, I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon enough.  Until then.enjoy!
