Today I am chatting with my friend Dani about Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross.Divine Rivals is a beautiful fantasy set in an old fashioned war-torn world where two journalistic rivals form a connection that will be tried and tested. This book is a sweet enemies/rivals to lovers romance where are main characters are drawn together through writing letters. It's a book that could be considered Greek Mythology meets You've Got Mail, meets a Hallmark movie. It's sweet and timeless and will give you ALL the feels!Take a listen as Dani and I chat all about the plot, characters, Greek mythology, how men shouldn't start a war in order to get a woman's attention, and more! We might even discuss a little of the sequel, Ruthless Vows...just maybe... First 15 minutes are spoiler free!A little about Divine Rivals: After centuries of sleep, the gods are warring again. But eighteen-year-old Iris Winnow just wants to hold her family together. Her mother is suffering from addiction and her brother is missing from the front lines. Her best bet is to win the columnist promotion at the Oath Gazette. To combat her worries, Iris writes letters to her brother and slips them beneath her wardrobe door, where they vanish―into the hands of Roman Kitt, her cold and handsome rival at the paper. When he anonymously writes Iris back, the two of them forge a connection that will follow Iris all the way to the front lines of battle: for her brother, the fate of mankind, and love.Send us a Text Message.Have a question about today's book or author? This week is a deep dive into the Divine Rivals duet (or duology, whichever you prefer) with the one and only, Ashley! This might just be one of the most chaotic episodes we've had in a long time. Prepare for a lot of tangents including, but not limited to, Attack on Titan, haunted diamonds, the abysmal state of my reading room, and, of course, magical typewriters. Note this episode is NOT spoiler free for the Divine Rivals duet (or duology).

Rebecca Ross joins us on Virtual Book Tour to discuss her duology - Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. We had a magical time talking about the duality that lives in all of us, why romantasy is a genre capturing readers, and how Rebecca's love of fantasy started. In this epic follow-up to Divine Rivals, Iris has returned from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing, and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance. As the days grow darker, inevitably drawing Roman and Iris closer together, the two of them will risk their very hearts and futures to change the tides of the war. For our final episode of 2023, we chat with Anna Pitoniak, whose 4th novel, The Helsinki Affair, has been named a Best Thriller of 2023 by The Washington Post. Anna has long been a fan of spy novels and decided to try her hand at writing the genre. While spy novels have usually been written by and about men, Anna shows that women agents can be just as smart, sly, and ballsy. With a background in the publishing industry, Anna discusses how this experience impacted her journey writing, finding an agent, and working to get her novel into the world. We also discuss how she is very different from Carrie on the Christmas front and why tacos were not her favorite food from a trip to Mexico (you'll be surprised by what was.) Books Discussed in This Episode: 1- The Helsinki Affair by Anna Pitoniak 2- Slow Horses by Mick Herron 3- Our American Friend by Anna Pitoniak 4- The Looking Glass War by John Le Carre 5- The Spy Who Came in From the Cold by John Le Carre 6- Murder by Degrees by Ritu Mukherji 7- Mr. Lullaby by J.H. The writing was beautiful almost poetic, even though the world building wasn't the strongest, it still made you feel like you were there with the characters. The story made your heartache, I definitely shed some tears for what Iris had to go through. The world was definitely not what I was expecting, it was set in almost a 40's setting with typewriters, trains, but had the fantasy aspect of gods and goddesses. I really liked this Young Adult Fantasy!

In this episode we'll discuss:Living in your houseParking Lot PaiseFowl LanguageBlurb-KiraIn the blink of an eye, my whole world has collapsed around me. Headed towards my dream vacation I was snatched right out of the air. My husband, the love of my life, was destroyed right in front of my eyes. He fought bravely trying to protect me from a horror neither one of us could have ever imagined. I find myself standing in the spotlight on a stage. Mutilated and tortured, the blood from my body flowing freely down my legs along with my will to live. Piercing yellow eyes emerge from the darkness, but even the shadows can't hide his imposing form. Gentle, but terrifying arms reach out for me, and within their embrace can I find the will to live again?DaRI am a badass, known throughout the galaxy for my brutality, as a ruthless and feared commander. With that being said, somehow I still got coerced into purchasing a slave. My eyes fall upon a small female whose very essence and eternal light is leaking out of her onto the floor below her. I watch in awe as she accepts her fate, willing her nightmare to be over. I almost turn away from her and the unnecessary cruelly in this room, but the very thought of her dying on that floor surrounded by the very monsters that have done this to her disgust me. I walk up among the beings surrounding her and pull her from the stage, daring, or should I say hoping they try to do something about it. The moment I put her in my arms, everything changes. The attachments I have avoided my whole life become unavoidable. Will this damaged slave be able to replace the shadows in my life? One thing for sure is that I will destroy the entire universe to keep her safe. Divine Rivals was released at the beginning of March and, since that point, has enjoyed a lot of success, it's proved incredibly popular on socials such as BookTok and Bookstagram. The enemies-to-lovers element of this fantasy has really gripped people, almost as much as Fourth Wing (as an aside can you believe there are over 215,000 ratings for that on Goodreads now?). Any, this week I am talking about this fantasy that is based during a bitter war between the Gods. It is the story of Iris and Kitt, two journalists who are sent to the front line to report on what is happening to the people fighting. Find out what I thought as I revisited this book I read at the beginning of June in this episode that is truly unlike any other I have done before as I realise some things about my own reading pattern... If you prefer your fantasy along steampunk lines, Jordan's pick of the week, "Divine Rivals" by Rebecca Ross, may be more your style. A lover's feud between two deities sparks off a global war that provides the backdrop for a "You've Got Mail" style romance. Magical typewriters, a non-sword-wielding heroine, and a well-developed cast of secondary characters drive the story all the way to a cliffhanger. Warning: book two hasn't been released yet.https://rebeccarossauthor.com/divine-rivals/ Want to sneak a look at upcoming content?
