My guest of this episode is someone quite a few of our listeners may already know a bit, initiate and author Nick Farrell who just published two new books, we'll be talking about in the show. But firstly, our conversation starts with the changes of our days due to the pandemic and how it influenced and still does magicians and magic all over the world. We explore how a pretty dangerous form of polarisation seems to have taken over making people form tribes in more extreme ways than before adopting a hunt-and-kill-mentality. However, we also discuss the role of the balanced magician in this weird game and reflect on the need to look at different ideas before acting on them. Of course, Nick's latest book, ‘Star and Stone', a ground breaking work about geomancy and its connection to astrology will be a central topic in our episode. We'll be talking about the origins of geomancy, how it evolved as elemental theory was applied to it and how it was used for horary charts in terms of interpretation. We'll be exploring its advantages compared to other divination techniques such as the tarot as well. Part of our conversation will cover the modern purposes of this specific divination method on a magical level too such as checking on ritual working outlines before one is to implement them as geomancy is able to offer real black and white perspectives. We'll also be looking at some interesting parallels and differentiations between the geomancy, the I Ching, Golden Dawn watchtowers and Enochian chess as well. You'll have the opportunity to learn about Nick's second book too - actually a recently republished one that hasn't been available for reasonable prices for quite a while – ‘Mather's Last Secret'. It offers a collection of the papers of the Alpha & Omega Golden Dawn organisation which used to be Crowley's temple at the time he left the Golden Dawn. Nick is going to tell their highly fascinating background story and opening up about the motivation to publish them and how they can be used by modern day practitioners in order to get out the most of them. Another very important topic will be the need for orders and rituals to develop if not wanting to fall apart or become meaningless repetitions of the same story until no candidate is able to relate to them anymore and ultimately plunging into being lost and/or forgotten. The art of how this development has to take place is of course a different matter altogether as there's a delicate balance between sticking to certain words and/or movements ‘due to tradition' and letting things get out of control completely ‘due to innovation'. Nick will finally give us a glimpse on his upcoming book projects where quite a few are in line having waited patiently until he finished his amazing book on geomancy that I personally can't recommend highly enough for anyone interested in divination in general. Music played in this episode It seems to me already like if I had a new little "sensation" to announce for our musical program here on this podcast. I am extremely happy and proud that the music here has also become a bit of a trademark of this show and it makes me even happier that more and more of this music comes from YOU, the listeners!! And today the musical gift is quite spectacular. Its creator contacted me to send me his new album to use on the show. And you bet I am happy about that!!! So, today's music is by KRISTER LINDER. Let me cite his website for you: Elusive Swedish-Congolese Artist / Producer Returns from The U.S. With an Album of Dirty Gold. His music sets the tone in award winning feature films. Global fashion giants such as H&M, Fendi, Agent Provocateur and Chanel battle it out with his sound. But the man himself is not easily found. With student screen time at all-time highs and social isolation increasingly affecting kids, the scourge of fake news is a bigger threat than ever. Nick Farrell, co-founder of Bites Media, has some ideas of how to combat it. On this episode of Remote Possibilities, Nick talks about the importance of media literacy and how schools can take direct action to empower their students to not take the bait. The idea is relatively straight forward, as described by in a recent Forbes post: “Bites takes contemporary issues in the news, sourced from reliable and reputable outlets, then shrinks the information down into smaller, faster, more consumable chucks – or, bites – for younger readers. They then take that content and build comprehension lessons around it, allowing teachers to build important issue literacy around these key topics. The content and the lessons are built and delivered online, in easy, turnkey modules for teachers or parents.”Hogan and Farrell discuss a variety of topics including the how and why they are launching this endeavour and how he sees the future developing in this pandemic era. What They Do *Bites crafts and publishes interactive, multimedia news stories that provide the facts with rich context from diverse viewpoints. We work with graduate and undergraduate journalism students to pull 10+ sources into one place*Bites utilizes an explanatory journalistic approach, but we also make explicit connections between what is happening and why it matters to democracy and citizenry. This approach is proven to increase student engagement by at least 3 times. Why They Do It*Bites believes in prioritizing a foundation of understanding and fostering deep engagement to cultivate informed citizens and civic action.*Bites believes it is our civic duty to be informed citizens that go beyond simply casting a vote.

One of today's most important representatives of Ceremonial Magic (and more) on Episode 11: NICK FARRELL Nick Farrell was born 1965 in the UK. His family moved to New Zealand when he was six montsh old and at the age of three he started to suffer from terrifying dreams which appeared real. These visions lasted until he was 17 when he bought his first set of Tarot cards and suddenly found himself in a Golden Dawn offshoot called Builders of the Adytum. Nick started to read everything he could find on the Golden Dawn and Magic. Nick moved to Hawkes Bay where he hooked up with the former members of the last surviving temple of the Golden Dawn, Whare Ra. In particular he joined the Order of the Table Round which was a side order of the now defunct Whare Ra temple. The head of the order was Percy Wilkinson who, along with Jack Taylor, had implanted the Golden Dawn’s initiatory formula over the top of the original ritual. Percy and a few of the other elderly Golden Dawn adepts shared a lot of ideas with Nick who at the time was not really that interested in the Golden Dawn and had signed up to join Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki’s Servants of the Light School. Nick moved to the UK to take part in practical work of the SOL and found himself being trained by David Goddard. In 1997, Nick visited the US where he carried out a few workshops and renewed his friendship with Chic and Tabatha Cicero and joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn forming a Temple of that Group in Nottingham. He followed the Cicero’s orthodox Golden Dawn curriculum from Neophyte to ZAM and passed all the practical and intellectual tests required by that order. Around that time Nick wrote his first book Making Talismans which has turned out to be an esoteric classic. He moved to Sofia in Bulgaria where he wrote Magical Pathworking, The Druidic Order of Pendragon (with Colin Robertson), Gathering the Magic and Egyptian Shaman. He also began to work with the artist Harry Wendrich and his wife Nicola Golden Dawn Temple Tarot deck which is soon to be released. In 2007 he wrote his first novel “When a Tree Falls“, which is an occult, fantasy based on his silly and at times black sense of humour. In 2008 he moved to Rome where he wrote two more books on the Golden Dawn “King over the Water” and “Mathers’ Last Secret“. Later that year he established the Magical Order of the Aurora Aurea which is a traditional Golden Dawn based order which already has five temples worldwide and a thriving correspondence course. In 2010 he decided to take his order out of the Golden Dawn egregrore so that it could evolve into something which reflected his own magical direction. The Order has also become more focused on Europe. He is the Editor of the Hermetic Journal which is a quarterly journal dedicated to ritual magic. In this episode, joined by Nick Farrell of DC Vintage Watches, we discuss the complete corporate and manufacturing history of Tag Heuer, known simply as Heuer before 1985. From its conception, the brand has focused on innovation in precise time keeping, eschewing pushing the boundaries of complication in favor of the boundaries of precision; at one point producing mechanical stopwatches capable of measuring in 1/1000 second increments. We take a look at some of Heuer's most iconic models, and their relationship with motor and yacht racing, and examine a bunch of watches from their current offerings. The Domi Story How a milestone for TLH startups came to be. Today we're bringing you a story that's pivotal to tech and startups in Tallahassee: the founding of Domi Station. Established in 2014, Tallahassee's first privately-operated startup incubator and coworking space marked the beginning of a community that continues to grow and evolve. We sat down at GrassLands Brewery with Micah Widen and Jake Kiker, two of Domi's founding members, to find out how it all began. What you're about to hear was originally recorded in 2016. Our current host, Lucas Lindsey, was not yet a part of the picture, and producer Nick Farrell is on the host mic. Due to some recording issues (who's idea was it to record in a bar anyway?), we decided not to release the episode at the time. But now, in celebration of Domi's 3rd anniversary, the time is right. Click the player just below to find out the story behind Domi, the origin of its name, and what it took to get it off the ground. *Disclaimer: This podcast was recorded via live webcam, and the audio does suffer from some interference. We apologize for any distraction that this may cause.* Reflection and planning are deeply intertwined — in order to move forward, you have to know where you’re coming from. That was the premise behind the first ever podcast episode of the Startup Capital series. Startup Capital TLH, founded mid 2016, began as an interview series focused on spotlighting and supporting Tallahassee startups and entrepreneurs. Now, it’s coming to your ears in podcast form. In this introductory episode, Lucas Lindsay, executive director at Domi Station and the host of Startup Capital Season 2, speaks with Cuttlesoft’s Frank Valcarcel, Emily Morehouse-Valcarcel, and Nick Farrell about the origin, goals, and outcomes of the series. Before jumping in, each participant took time to study the interviews of Season 1 to determine the major themes of the Season 1 interviews. Those themes include: Startup culture Entrepreneurial ecosystems Talent acquisition and retention Tech education Diversity & inclusion In this cross-country conversation between Lindsey and Farrell in Tallahassee and the Valcarcels in Denver, CO, these themes are discussed and dissected. How are entrepreneurs making the most of Tallahassee’s business resources? How can universities better adapt to the changing demands of the workplace? Tune in to learn the answers to these questions and others during Startup Capital: Season 2, Episode 1.
