The following was recorded LIVE at the Royal Theater in Toronto ON on December 10th 2024, and features masters of their craft (instruments) Eric Gersen on keys and Nick Fraser on the drums! Due to some technical difficulties the audio quality of this recording is unfortunately slightly distorted, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the story of two teenage boys as they navigate a museum(?) full of tricks and traps!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Co-presented by the Guelph Jazz Festival, this week's episode features a deep discussion with Toronto drummer Nick Fraser. Nick is a pensive, dedicated musician, who talks at great length about what got him into jazz, his educators, his collaborators, and the journey to "early retirement". We even stew a little on our mutual distaste for Randy's Vinyl Pap. Dig in!
Noted Toronto jazz drummer (and my brother) Nick Fraser joins me to talk about the concept of genre, musical narcissism, the difficulty in separating music from nostalgia, why he loves (and so many people hate) free jazz, what he looks for in music, and (of course) Rush, among other topics. Find Nick's recordings, gigs and news on his website. And stick around after the interview for a major What Is This Music?! announcement. Photo of Nick by Bo Huang.
Originally recorded on December 10, 2020, David Fox, owner, Fox Flight Air Ambulance, and Nick Fraser, Fox Flight Air Ambulances' director of maintenance, talk about what makes their aircraft unique and how they keep them airworthy.

Plus, a selection from the brand new album “1962” by the Brazilian-born, NYC-based guitarist and composer Ricardo Grilli. With his 2016 release 1952, Ricardo chose to begin his own story in the year of his father’s birth, a date that also coincided with the dawn of the Space Age and the height of bebop in New York City. With his inviting yet evocative follow-up, 1962, Grilli shifts perspective by leaping forward to a new starting point: this time, his mother’s birth year. Get the full album on www.ricardogrilli.com. Trevor Hogg - tenor sax, Don Scott - guitar, Michael Herring - bass, Nick Fraser - drums. ☯️Запись основывается на темах предыдущих двух альбомов Sheer Tyranny Of Will®️2014 и More Songs About Error And Shame®️2018 - пытаясь сбалансировать стремление к движению вперед с неврозами, которые сдерживают нас в повседневности. #fusion #contemporaryjazz

Only one NYC-based band, Fishes (with their debut album Fishes In Space), on today’s episode of The Jazz Hole, because once again, host Linus received a myriad of great jazz music from our northern neighbors, Canada. If you’re on Twitter, you’ll know em. Nick Fraser and Mark Liptrott have created an online sensation with their cleverly-worked club badges, which combine football crests with bands' logos and names. Think Wu-vemphampton Wanderers and All Saints (Southampton). A fun idea between mates has spiralled into highly sought after collectables, an exhibition at The National Football Museum and even a match day programme, done in conjunction with the Charlatans and Gary Neville, at Salford City. We caught up with Nick at Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess’ gig in London.
Join Jim Salveson, City legend Gary Owen, comedian and United fan Alex Boardman, and Nick Fraser of Bands FC as they discuss England's Nations League win over Croatia, City's Etihad expansion plans and the impending closure of the Trafford Soccerdome. Nick Fraser also talk about his project Bands FC after a special collaboration with Salford City recently See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Nick is a Fantastic Photographer who I have been lucky enough to shoot with multiple times. He is also Breakfast Shirts Go-to Photographer. We met as he was shooting a gig I was playing a couple of years back and we have been mates since. We talked a little about Freelance Photography and what projects nick is working on but more importantly we talked about MONGOLIA and nicks life shift towards minimalism and living a nomadic lifestyle. Nick is embarking on a 3 month trip to Mongolia, Shooting a documentary on nomadic culture. He is buying a horse and going across the plains living off the land. The catch is he is doing it with 10+ other minimalists who he has never yet. Pumped to have him back on when he gets back from his trip and even more pumped to see the film he makes. Lunar Podcast XV: Full Moon IIX by Nick Fraser
Nick Fraser regularly travels back in time (at least in his mind) to the Triassic, a crazily inventive period in our evolutionary history that started 250 million years ago. Wherever there are ancient Triassic creatures buried underground, Nick is never far behind; and his 'fossil first' approach to life has been richly rewarded. In 2002, he unearthed a new species of gliding reptile in Virginia, USA. Last year in southern China, he identified the remains of a creature so utterly odd that the paleontologists who studied this species before him had got it all wrong. And earlier this year he was part of a tiny but hugely exciting discovery much closer to home, hidden in the Scottish borders in rocks that are over 350 million years old: an ancient amphibian, imaginatively named Tiny, that is the earliest known example of an animal with a backbone to live on land. It may even have had five fingers. Producer: Anna Buckley.

The philosopher Alfred Schütz points to a ‘mutual tuning-in relationship’ at the foundation of all possible communication. In this episode of Sound It Out we ask you to consider this theme in an audio journey through the Somewhere There creative music festival in Toronto. Explore how relationships of collaborative co-creation occur not only between performers on stage, but also between performers and their audience, as well between musicians considered from a larger angle: what does it take on an arts managerial level to entrench the relationships of inclusivity, exchange, and relationship forged on stage? That is, how do you make these musical relationships last and feed the other points of contact and engagement? Hear discussions with theatre creator Sarah Kitz, drummer and composer Nick Fraser, and a talk by veteran music advocate David Dacks. This episode originally aired on CFRU 93.3FM in Guelph, Ontario on Tuesday February 28th at 5pm.

The ways in which documentaries are commissioned are changing: in an evolving media landscape and a globalizing world, good stories can come from anywhere. But how to develop documentaries out of these stories, is another thing. In this talk, Nick Fraser will introduce his new online documentary platform Yaddo, a subscription-based streaming service that will co-finance films as well as show them. Unlike its big VOD brothers Amazon and Netflix, who are increasingly active in the documentary market, Yaddo is also a pitching platform for short films. Filmmakers can pitch their stories online even by Twitter or email and attract investors to fully commission their ideas. In what sense do VOD-services, big and small, open up opportunities and access for filmmakers who want to tell their stories? Will online pitching platforms change the future of documentaries and how they are created? Nick Fraser will tell you all about Yaddo and what it can mean for developing filmmakers' stories.

Filmmakers around the world are facing grave consequences for expressing their creative viewpoint. Broadcasters are being pressured into delaying or cancelling the transmission of documentaries. Hostile nations are rumoured to have carried out cyber attacks following unfavourable portrayal. Are the potential risks to filmmakers and broadcasters outweighing the importance of a story? Is institutional self-censorship hindering vital stories being told? Does everyone have the right to a voice? We’ll hear from those who’ve been censored and those who’ve broken laws to tell their story. Our panel of noted filmmakers, broadcasters and journalists assess what freedom of expression represents in documentary filmmaking. With Ursula Macfarlane, Patricia MacBride, Parvez Sharma and Nick Fraser
