What if the Flyers go after Peyton Krebs or one of the 20-or-so unsigned RFAs?Charlie & Bill get into these and more, plus a look at the NHL's top-20 centers.

On February 17th and 18th, 2024, the NHL held two regular-season outdoor games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The first game featured the New Jersey Devils hosting the Philadelphia Flyers, while the second game was between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders. The Devils played their first game at the Meadowlands since 2007. They spent the first 25 years in New Jersey playing at the Meadowlands Arena, which is across the parking lot. Flyers Pre/Post-Game Host Jason Myrtetus joined the podcast to review the Stadium Series and compare this outdoor to the five others that the Flyers have participated in. In this episode, they discuss the improvements made to the outdoor game since its beginning in 2008. Myrtetus also spoke about new Team President Keith Jones. The episode also addresses the 2018 Canada Junior Hockey scandal that has led to the arrest of Flyers goalie Carter Hart Devils forward Mike McLeod and defenseman Cal Foote. They also address the legacy of former #1 pick Nolan Patrick.
Gabby joins us to talk Flyers. Also Bruce Boudreau spilled some tea, all stars, and PWHL/U18s updates.
Jeff and Elliotte discuss why, despite the New Jersey Devils' struggles, it wouldn't make sense for them to make a coaching change right now. They dive into a penalty filled affair between Vegas and Tampa on Thursday night and they throw out some of their favourite Hart Trophy candidates (27:25). Elliotte expands on some questions about the future of Frederik Andersen in Carolina (37:55) and also talks about Nolan Patrick's future in hockey (40:57). The guys discuss John Gruden (the hockey one) possibly becoming the Head Coach of the Ottawa Senators (45:55) and touch on Devon Toews going after his own players through the media (48:21). Jeff and Elliotte wrap the podcast by vouching for Jaromir Jagr to be eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame now, rather than in another three years after he suited up for Kladno again (1:19:47).The guys answer your questions in the Montana's Thought Line (56:31).Email the podcast at 32thoughts@sportsnet.ca or call the Montana's Thought Line at 1-833-311-3232 and leave us a voicemail. This podcast was produced and mixed by Dominic Sramaty and hosted by Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

In Ailish Forfar and Justin Cuthbert's weekly visit with Frank Seravalli (1:49), we look at the quiet success of the Jets and how they did it, a bizarre retirement story about Nolan Patrick and why Martin Jones is more than capable of being the Leafs' backup than Samsonov. Later, Jake Fischer (25:31) of Yahoo! looks around the NBA with a specific focus on the Raptors roster, why it clearly is not working and if the team has shown their cards ahead of the deadline. Then, why a weak draft class will impact trades and why it can help the Raptors. (00:00-12:27) Ray Dunne is in the host seat today and immediately calls into question the Jalen Hurts/Nick Sirianni QB/Coach battery. The question is, which one of the two should be more heavily scrutinized? (12:51-40:32) Ray brings up how Jalen looks more like his 2021 season opposed to his 2022 season and wonders if Sirianni's offensive scheme could be a common denominator. Colin Cowherd says he views the Eagles as one of the best teams in the NFC, but Ray responds that it's not enough to top the 49ers. (40:35-1:15:17) Tom Alvord opens the vault for the first Giants week of the year! It's also Malcom Jenkins' birthday, and former Flyers' first round pick Nolan Patrick announces his retirement. Brandon Graham claims Desai was demoted because of outside noise… What is happening in the Eagles' locker room? (1:15:21-1:45:49) Ray and Tom field calls and continue to attempt to diagnose where the problems are for the Eagles. Jalen's “smugness” has become a major topic of concern for fans. (1:46:02-1:48:49) The Philadelphia Inquirer's Matt Breen joins the show to react to the coordinator change, the offensive struggles, and if Nick Sirianni's tenure will look similar to the Eagles head coaches of the past . (1:59:55-2:47:53) The show goes around the league to see how the Eagles stack up in this edition of the power rankings. Ray goes back to the original question and puts his blame on Nick Sirianni, and Tom calls into question the experience of the staff.
Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee start with some behind-the-scenes on media meals and who boasts the best spread. They are joined by Jets' GM Kevin Cheveldayoff (4:22), who shares how his squad has been able to stay competitive after a drama-filled end to last season, the rewarding returns of the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade and the next steps for in-season improvement. After, a chat about Ehlers' usage and the whole league's need for a right-shot defenceman. Finally, news and notes - rumours of Nolan Patrick's retirement, Don Granato's seat heating up, Devon Toews calls out his teammates and Fleury closes in on second place for all-time goalie wins. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
Frank Saravalli, NHL Insider from the Daily Faceoff, told the Oilers Now podcast that Nolan Patrick wasn't as injured as VGK led us to believe. Saravalli stopped short of accusing VGK of cheating but the "Patrick was maybe a bit healthier than the Vegas Golden Knights might have let on." We haven't heard anything from the Golden Knights brass in response to the report. In another report this weekend, BPM Sports in Quebec said the Golden Knights would be signing Max Comtois to a Professional Tryout Contract. The former Duck didn't receive a qualifying offer from Anaheim in June. He's just 24 years old and could compete for a starting winger position. Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
It's Monday, so yinz know what that means! In this episode, Hunter and Pat dive into some PTO options for the Penguins, starting with Nolan Patrick. He didn't play this past season as he continues to battle back from injuries, but could he be an option if he is healthy? The two analyze what he's done at the NHL level so far and while he may not be what everyone thought he was going to be, he could still be a good bet for a team that needs more offense for its bottom six. They then look at Jesse Puljujarvi after he was a member of the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers. The two look at how he has strong offensive and defensive capabilities, while also looking at his underlying numbers. Finally, they end the show with Jonathan Toews stepping away from the NHL and why the Blackhawks' Core 3 went out with a whimper, unlike the Penguins Core 3.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/LOCKEDONNHL or enter promo code LOCKEDONNHL for a free white tech hat with any order. We dug up a 2003 story from the Washington Post on the firing of Bruce Cassidy. He was a young and inexperienced coach, and George McPhee gambled on Cassidy, who was fired after just 15 months with the Washington Capitals. Cassidy has obviously grown a lot since then, having made the playoffs in Boston in each of his six years there and winning the Jack Adams award in the 2019-20 season as the best head coach in the league. We also talked about the VGK odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2023. And, three players were drafted ahead of Colorado's Cale Makar three years ago - one was Nolan Patrick, who probably won't play again for the Golden Knights. Learn more about your ad choices. Hosts Sarah Avampato (Locked On Kings) and Jess Belmosto (Locked On Flames) guide you through another week of Western Conference antics. First up, we look at the Chicago Blackhawks' pick for their new general manager: 33-year old Kyle Davidson, who had been serving as the team's interim GM. Good choice, or should the team have used this opportunity to really reboot? Plus, with rumors swirling about the fate of pending UFA Filip Forsberg, the Nashville Predators said they have every intention of re-signing him. If they can't, though, what will they decide to do with him, and what kind of trade package would a star like that command? Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights had a full practice on Wednesday and goalie Robin Lehner joined the team for the first time in a couple of weeks. He has been nursing an upper body injury. Lehner joined Zach Whitecloud and Alec Martinez, who returned to practice with their teammates. Whitecloud could play this weekend. Martinez is still listed as out. Nolan Patrick also returned to the ice off a concussion. He practiced in a non-contact jersey. The Golden Knights are ranked 12th in the latest Locked On NHL Power Rankings, that's where we ranked VGK too. And, will the Golden Knights make a play for JT Miller, the latest name to be linked to VGK in the Rumor Mill. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Jake Muzzin had an awful accident that landed him in the hospital when the Toronto Maple Leafs faced the Montreal Canadiens. Could he find himself on the LTIR and fully rested when the playoffs come around? The NHL released a statement regarding Nathan McKinnon's physical contact with an official. This is the second time in less than a week that McKinnon has been let off. He left Nolan Patrick down on the ice after a high hit against Vegas Golden Knights. It's bad enough when a call is missed but when there's no repercussion on a hit that leaves a player with a concussion history and syndrome out of the game, it hurts worse. Hold players accountable, no matter what the name or star status is. Claude Giroux could be leaving Phillidelphia right after playing 1000 games for the Flyers. Would Calgary be a good fit for the 1C? jk. Seattle is looking to move on from Mark Giordano which puts the Flames in an awkward position if they really are in the mix.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Golden Knights - Daily Podcast On the Vegas Golden Knights
Jack Eichel debuted for VGK in the 2-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night. It was his first time in an NHL game in eleven months. Eichel took some hits and also checked some for the Golden Knights. He had two penalties as well and played close to 16 minutes. One of the contraversial plays in the game was a check by the Avs Nathan MacKinnon on VGK's Nolan Patrick. The play sent Patrick, who has a history of head injuries, out of the game in the first period and he never returned. VGK still can't score goals - it marked the first time in team history that the Golden Knights was shut out two straight games. And, VGK is still faced with trying to figure out its goaltending situation with Robin Lehner's shoulder injury. We are not sure how long he will be out. Learn more about your ad choices. Jack Eichel started practice with contact for VGK on Monday. It is not known how long til he is pressed into action. It was the first time in a about 18 months since he has felt some contact. Pete DeBoer said Eichel felt good following his first day back. Eichel skated with Michael Amadio and Nolan Patrick. Will VGK have a special line built around Eichel when he returns? The Golden Knights will see two new faces since their first meeting earlier this season - Evander Kane and Mike Smith. The controversial Kane signed a one-year deal with The Oil and Smith will play in just his seventh game of the season following injuries. We also have the keys to tonight' game. Can VGK continue to play well on the road? VGK is 13-6-1 away from the Fortress. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The #PhiladelphiaFlyers continue to bore their fanbase with uninspired, and slow play! COVID clearly played a role, but so does a lack of organizational talent! Bob Clarke came out recently, and ripped Ron Hextall's drafting of Nolan Patrick. Is it a petty hindsight analysis, or newsworthy? We will discuss these topics and also take a look around the #NHL, in particular the #MetropolitanDivision, and have more Penalty Box fun!
Rob Pizzo from CBC Sports is joined by Jesse Granger from the Athletic NHL, with Sara Civian on assignment this week. The boys discuss the Edmonton Oilers interest in Evander Kane, the job Ken Holland has done constructing that team, Bobby Clarke's harsh criticism of Ron Hextall taking Nolan Patrick ahead of Cale Makar in 2017 and Jack Eichel's first practice with the Vegas Golden Knights.Julian McKenzie, associate editor for the Athletic NHL joins Rob and Jesse and adds his two cents on John Klingberg's contract demands in Dallas, Marc Bergevin joining the Los Angeles Kings front office and he provides an update on the Montreal Canadiens General Manager search. The guys also discuss if Canadian teams are putting themselves in jeopardy to qualify for a playoff spot by postponing games until capacity limits are lifted in Canada and they praise the powerful Hockey Diversity ad which came out last week as we continue to fight racism in hockey. Finally, Jesse profiles his in-depth column on Robin Lehner helping others who suffer from mental health, and Rob and Jesse talk about rapper Kodak Black's antics last night at the Canucks/Panthers game which broke hockey twitter on Tuesday evening. The show kicked off today starting with Matt Sekeres and Blake Price talking about the finalizing of the contracts of Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. They talk about 40 only signing a 3 year deal and what it could look like for him at the conclusion of the deal. The ‘Welcome Matt’ was on the weekend that was for Vancouver Sports and what we now know about the fabric of our local teams. Charean Williams joined the guys after a busy week 4 and started talking about the Sunday Nighter, between Brady v Belichick. Says it was really a boring game and didn’t end the way you would want a game of that ilk to end. Charean talked about what it would have taken for an ending that you would have wanted. A little disappointing the way it played out with Brady not getting any TD passes, despite breaking the overall yards record. She thinks we saw a little bit of Brady not being able to control his emotions and that is when we see him at his worst. Rain could have played a part of that. She talked about the Seahawks and how big a win it was for them over the weekend. You don’t want to lose division games with that being the tie breaker. It will all come down to that. Thought they handled it real well. Talked about the Cardinals and that Kyler Murray would be at the top of the MVP list, thought she knows it’s only four weeks in… Talked about Monday Nighter and who needs its more. John Shannon, joined the show and started talking about the the Jays coming up a little short in their bid for the post-season. Following that John offers his thoughts on what could be a tough season for Bettman and all the PR issues that his office will need to manage. He says that the players union will also be in a bit of damage control. Talks about Ambien and its role in the game. Talked about the Lehner tweets and John wonders if this could reflect poorly on Nolan Patrick and if he might be the source behind the comments. John asks how much of this is on the player compared to the trainer who may provide it. The league is going to have to pay attention and not stick their head in the sand. Talked about the signing of 40&43. Talked about if Brady Tkachuk might be getting lonely on the island and what kind of contract he might be looking for. With the three of them getting into detail about where both Tkachuk’s could eventually end up with all their connections, even past their father. Jeff Paterson joined Matt and Blake in his regular spot and after a busy weekend, started talking about Brock Boeser and when we might see him back. JPat talked about the effort of Nils Höglander over the weekend. Said the Jets didn’t come close to touching him in the first period. Talked about how fun he is to watch in person. In reference to Boeser being out, it’s not as simple as asking for one winger to replace that line. Who know’s what they do with JT Miller as he will be more of a hybrid player for them. Talked about the game presentation from yesterday and how it stacks up compared to other teams. Noted that it was only Hughes that thanks Benning and the Canucks and not EP40. Talked about cuts to the team and the likes of Jett Woo and Klimovich. JPat doesn’t think Chiasson has done enough to earn and NHL contract. It would be a preferred option to scour the waiver wire to find a suitable option. They are looking hard at their special teams options. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we kick things off by offering quick takes on the freshly released and pretty darn juicy protection lists for the Seattle expansion draft. Then, we break down the flurry of moves that came before the expansion trade freeze, and what it means for our draft lists this September. Questions asked and answered include: What would it take for Jared McCann to repeat his near-70 point pace? How much does it help a goalie to have Ryan Ellis in front of them? Does a fresh start rejuvenate Nolan Patrick or Cody Glass? Who will begin-- and end-- the season quarterbacking Edmonton's top unit? Has LA ever acquired a player since Wayne Gretzky and, if so, did that player get better or worse as a King? Players covered on this episode include Vladimir Tarasenko, Carey Price, Jared McCann, Viktor Arvidsson, Filip Forsberg, Juuse Saros, Cody Glass, Philip Tomasino, Ryan Ellis, Ivan Provorov, Carter Hart, Nolan Patrick, Miro Heiskanen, Ryan Suter, Zach Parise, Keith Yandle, Duncan Keith, Evan Bouchard, Jason Dickinson, Adin Hill, Martin Jones, Nick Leddy, Filip Hronek, Ryan Graves, Mikhail Maltsev and more. Kyle and Erik look at how the San Jose Sharks could use an offer sheet to inject a young, talented player into the organization. We discuss the offer sheet rules and then discuss the New York Islanders trio of players Anthony Beauvillier, Ilya Sorokin, and Adam Pelech (7:00). We then look at the big RFA's on the market: Miro Heiskanen and Cale Makar and how an offer sheet would be doing their teams a favor (13:00). We finish by looking at if Jesperi Kotkaniemi of the Montreal Canadiens (15:00) and if taking a swing on Nolan Patrick's upside is worth the risk (19:30).Check out the podcast on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BetOnline AGThere is only 1 place that has you covered and 1 place we trust.
