Welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, your place for anything and everything Disney. This week we finish (for now) our series Disney Decade with 2010-2019. But before we get into that, let’s get to the news! Food and Wine starts early this year, going from July all the way to November. The cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced and includes has some awesome names attached to it like Kumail Nanjiani, Sung Kang, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Also, the new Bamboo Bar and Patio opened at Splitsville in Disney Springs. This decade was definitely one of the most prosperous in Disney’s history. Bob Iger led Disney through some massive acquisitions of Lucasfilm and Fox. Marvel explodes at the box office, which then seems to feed into all Disney properties owning the box office by the end of the decade. Many of the parks also go through massive improvements and new a new park even opens! If this was the 2020s, we could’ve called this the Roaring ‘20s. The Roaring 10s doesn’t have quite the same flare. Oh well. Thanks for tuning in. Share this podcast with your friends, relatives, and that person at work that you struggle to talk to. And as always, have a magical week! Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

Reggie Ponder talks about the movie Just Mercy, Starring Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson. What's it aboutA powerful and thought-provoking true story, “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.Who's In it?Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, Rob Morgan, Tim Blake Nelson, Rafe Spall, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Karan Kendrick

Den of Thieves is the latest action film from director Christian Gudegast starring Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, 50 Cent, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. The film works as almost an exact retelling of Michael Mann's 1995 masterpiece, Heat. This time we get the more meathead version of that story but the outside framing is much the same. The movie pits a group of ex-military bank robbers who work with extreme accuracy against a group of major crimes officers who ride the line of legality. Den of Thieves may not be a cerebral film with amazing acting but for a somewhat mindless action film, it works. Worthwhile gunplay, elaborate schemes, and extreme bits of cat and mouse interplay, this very well might be the best film coming out during the film drought that is January, or at the very least the most entertaining.
With the movie "Den of Thieves" right around the corner, Rhayne takes a quick look at the very limited backstory and offers a few opinions about the treatment of the film so far. It’s another special WHERE ARE THEY NOW episode about the 2017 feature film, Ingrid Goes West, starring Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olson (not Kaitlin), and O'Shea Jackson Jr. And talking with us about the film, which we all saw together at a jam packed screening, is Sarah Malone and Cody Kopp! We talk about all the super scary movies that are coming soon that we saw the trailers for, including Happy Death Day, Mother, It, and the creepy Hi Stranger short film. Alyse is accused of being exactly like the titular Ingrid. Cody and Stephen get in deep talking about Tom Cruise, who never appears once in this movie. Sarah plugs Moon Juice, while wishing O’Shea Jackson’s character wouldn’t be such a big dummy, cause INGRID CRAZY. Plus, the four of us, some real LA insiders, talk about the geography of this movie where Ingrid gets a haircut an hour away from her home, and pays far too much for in rent. "Don’t be a nuisance. We don’t need that." Kelly Reichardt has been called a minimalist film director, and if you’re comparing her to someone like Michael Bay or Steven Spielberg or the Hughes brothers, that certainly seems to be the case, at least based on her 2008 film Wendy and Lucy. This film doesn’t have a lot of pizazz or a large cinematic sense. What it does have, though, is a character study in which we dig deeply into our protagonist during a difficult few days in her life. In that aspect, it isn’t minimal at all. Perhaps calling it incredibly focused would be a better way to describe it. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we kick off a new series on director Kelly Reichardt with her 2008 lost dog film Wendy and Lucy. We talk about this ‘minimalist’ type of filmmaking and how it fits into the larger context of filmed stories that we know and love. We talk about how the story came about and was developed by Reichardt and writer Jon Raymond. We discuss Michelle Williams and her incredible (and incredibly internal) performance as Wendy, and how inadvertently she’s in all three of Reichardt’s films that we’re discussing in this series. We also chat about other actors in the film like Will Patton, Will Oldham, Wally Dalton and John Robinson and what they bring to the table. We look at the cinematography by Sam Levy and chat about what it brings to this story, notably the ‘naturalistic’ grainy and dark scenes. And we touch on the sound design and how Reichardt chose to use train sounds instead of score throughout the film. It’s a touching film yet one we oddly aren’t sure we’d return to anytime soon, but certainly is one well worth talking about. Check out this movie then tune in to the show! This looks darkly hilarious, if one can laugh at mental instability. Add in Elizabeth Olsen and O’Shea Jackson Jr., you’ve got what looks to be an awesome movie." Pete's Trailer: Black Butterfly — "A remake of Papillon Noir starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Antonio Banderas. It’s a Misery trailer that ducks subtlety and goes completely haywire too soon for my tastes, but I’m a sucker for ‘I’m a writer…’ stories so I’ll give this one a shot."

Yes, the two whitest podcasters you know deliver their take on the film's authenticity, its sad relevance, where it falls on the biopic spectrum, and yes, the bizarre fact that Ice Cube offspring O'Shea Jackson Jr. is playing Ice Cube.
