Figuring out how to reach new audiences outside of paid advertising is a challenge. Social media is loud, and can be negative. Today's guest, Elizabeth Henson, shares how to build and nurture an online community to leverage your authority. Elizabeth Henson is the owner of Elizabeth Henson INC., founder of The Messy Success Podcast, and The Community Growth Lab. Elizabeth started out as a wedding photographer and grew her business to six figures. Rather than teach how to use a camera, she realized that she could package her love of building community and leadership with how much people were struggling with their social media groups. Helping clients get that quick win with their Facebook group was the in to teach about community-based marketing. She notes that in pairing Facebook with an email newsletter, you can create a marketing system that takes one hour a week to run. Unlike Instagram, which requires more branding and content creation, the community aspect of a group – be it on Facebook or similar – means you just have to ask a question.  “80% of your content can be one line or less, and you have permission not to brand things and not make things pretty,” says Elizabeth. “You're starting conversations versus being on a stage.” There can be a dark side to social media where people bring negative energy. Elizabeth says it is possible to avoid. As long as you don't engage or view the negative content, the algorithm will adjust. And social media isn't going away – online communities are timeless. One of the forgotten marketing strategies is casting your vision. Elizabeth says she likes to remind people why she does what she does and why the group helps achieve that every week. Good leadership is more than the title. You spot a great leader when you feel important in their presence, says Elizabeth, who wants to be the best at making other people feel seen and heard. Introverts can be leaders. You don't have to have a big following to be a leader.    “An influencer can just sell stuff because they have a big audience,” explains Elizabeth. “A leader is going to create a space where someone feels important, even if it's just one person.” Elizabeth suggests thinking about how you want people to feel.   “You want them to feel like this is bigger than them, that it's more important than them, that this isn't bigger than you as the host,” she says. “If you can kind of treat your business mission like a movement, like you will naturally build community. And that's what makes marketing easy because then they advocate for you.” One myth about community-based marketing that Elizabeth wants to debunk is that it's hard and time consuming. Online relationship building is another point in your marketing ecosystem. You can nurture it for an hour a week and see it grow.  Wherever you choose to make your group, remember it's another place where you can help people, where you can remind them of your offers. It's not a be-all, end-all strategy, and it doesn't have to take more than an hour a week to start some conversations and reach your audience. Dr. Strange finally gets a sequel after appearing in the MCU 4 times already. This time as the title says, he dives right into the Multiverse… of Madness. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochiti Gomez, Rachel McAdams, and featuring Patrick Stewart, Anson Mount, Lashana Lynch, Hayley Atwell, and John Krasinski as members of the Illuminati. Directed by Marvel Movie alum Sam Raimi. This movie jumps right into the action with a multiversal variant of Dr. Strange trying to save America Chavez from a demon. Here it shows she can open up portals that allow her to travers the multiverse, albeit without any way to intentionally navigate it. She inevitably runs into the Dr. Strange we all know and love, and he tries to protect her. Realizing that the forces following Chavez are a form of witchcraft, they go to the only witch they know, Wanda Maximoff. Unbeknownst to them, it was Wanda all along… not so much Agatha. No catchy song to go along with this one. Wanda is being warped by the Darkhold, a book of dark magic, and is searching for a way to reunite with her kids she lost at the end of the Disney+ series WandaVision. This movie is fun, exciting, and just what the Marvel doctor ordered. Fans of Sam Raimi will no doubt see some of his signature filmmaking in this movie including his car's cameo, and of course Bruce Campbell. There is a lot to enjoy about this movie, but for better or worse, the most notable is the Illuminati. Seeing Patrick Stewart as Professor X again was a delight. Everyone was speechless, pun intended, when Anson Mount reprised his roll as Black Bolt. But the best kept secret and biggest surprise was John Krasinski, who's already been fan casted into the roll of Reed Richards, showed up as Reed Richards!! The big question is, will we see these characters again with the same actors? The Brothers Brotastic give this film 2 tickets. We are on board with the MCU through and through.

Happy Wednesday boys and girls! Today Mike and Matt review their first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not MCU topics include Dirty Dancing, future giveaways, and Wired's Autocomplete Interviews. Two multiverse films in 3 weeks? Wow what are the chances, well in 2022 very good. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the return of iconic Marvel and horror film director Sam Raimi to the superhero genre, it was a perfect fit. This film is dark, sinister, and kinda gory. It is the first somewhat horror film for the MCU. Elizabeth Olson steals the show with her portrayal of Scarlet Witch. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers again as Doctor Strange but Wanda is just amazing!  This film was a lot of fun but it was not as insane or mad as it should be. Raimi could really stretch out and get nuts with this film but he doesn't. Matt blames Disney oversight for not letting him stretch his creative muscles. Mike and Matt both agree the first 2022 MCU entry is a fun, dark, and exciting ride that's worth a watch. They both award Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 4 out of 5 Reels. That's what makes this week's episode so exciting: we're going to hear first hand how a director collaborates with a composer, and gives advice on what a composer will need to know to work as part of the post-production team. Chris and I have worked together on quite a few projects over the years, and I thought it would be great to get a director's perspective on the use of music in film, and also to find out about what a director is actually going through while the composer is coming up with a score.
