Our guest today is Nicholas Martin, movie producer and writer of the biographical drama, “Golda”. Golda was seven years in the making, and as you'll hear, Nicholas has delved so deeply into her story - and by extension Israel's story from independence to the 1970s - which makes this such a captivating interview. He's also made deep friendships with Golda's family and throughout Israel. A highly experienced and talented filmmaker who's become a world authority on the period, but didn't know a great deal about Israeli history before he started. Nicholas' previous film was the hilarious, Florence Foster-Jenkins. Golda also stars Liev Schreiber as Henry Kissinger and Camille Cottin as Lou Kadar, Golda's assistant. Our episode music has just been composed in support of Israel by my friend Bryan Edery with concert violinist Miriam Kramer. He's called it “Israel in my Heart, ner Tamid”. Thank you for allowing it to be our beautiful episode theme tune. I'd been talking to Nicholas about an interview for two years, before we eventually sat down in his London home for this considered and emotional discussion. I want to thank Nicholas for being such an open interviewee. This is one of the best. You can buy "Golda" on Apple TV, Amazon Video, Sky Store, Microsoft Store, Rakuten TV, Google Play Movies, YouTube as download or rent it on Amazon Video, Microsoft Store, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Rakuten TV, Apple TV, Sky Store, Curzon Home Cinema online. Der Anchorman Markus Gaupp (Sky) hat im Sky Store etwas Leckeres entdeckt. Muss sich aber wie der Producer Jens Huiber noch etwas gedulden.

Halló! Having seen plenty of sheep over the course of this podcast, it's the turn of the great Icelandic horse this week, as Rob and Ellie travel out into the wilds once again for a darkly comic tale of love, death, and the relationship between man and beast. Director Benedikt Erlingsson's feature debut 'Of Horses and Men' is a series of beautifully shot interconnected vignettes that demonstrate just how integral horses are to rural Icelandic life. Ingvar Sigurðsson provides the central performance as a man completely in love with his new mare, for whom things don't quite work out. What follows includes horses swimming for alcohol, tractor chases and a surprising amount of death, both human and animal. This is by turns fun, funny and tragic. But ultimately triumphant. Next week's film, 'Metalhead, can be found on PantaFlix, the Sky Store or for free here. Our guests for this episode are Claire and Anthony of Bueno Productions who, in 2007, decided to make a documentary about Ghostbusters. Little did they realise what was ahead of them, as they interviewed the likes of Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and the late Harold Ramis. The result, over a decade later, is the best documentary you could wish to see about a film franchise loved the world over. Here's an insight into their long journey to making Cleanin' Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters.SYNOPSIS:CLEANIN' UP THE TOWN: Remembering Ghostbusters delivers the most complete account of how the classic film Ghostbusters was made. Lee Hutchison is joined by the writer, director and star of Giddy Stratospheres Laura Jean Marsh and her co-star Jamal Franklin to dive into the making of the movie. Giddy Stratospheres follows Daniel (Jamal Franklin) and Lara (Laura Jean Marsh), indie-kid soul mates in the centre of the storm of guitars and broken glass that was the 00's indie music scene. Beautiful, mischievous, dishevelled, and on a quest for the ultimate euphoria and excitement that comes with dancing and thrashing on the front row to your new favourite song by your new favourite band. They don't miss a gig. They don't miss a beat. But as the night draws to a close, a darkness looms in the shadows of the after party. And the next day Lara can't quite work out why Daniel is so desperate for her to remember the events of the night before. Why is she in denial? Giddy Stratospheres is available now to buy and rent on Digital HD on all major platforms including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, Microsoft Films & TV and Sky Store.

This week Giles sits down (virtually) with the amazing Lucy Brydon, writer and director of Body of Water a beautifully made female-led drama backed by BBC Films and Film London. Lucy reveals how she made her start in film whilst teaching in China, getting into short films and production work before starting work on Body of Water which started life as a short film. We hear about the development process, from pitching the film as a short at festivals, to applying to the Film London development lab before being selected. Giles asks Lucy about her screenwriting process, the many changes the script went through and the importance of staying faithful to the original concept. Finally, we chat about day to day life on set, working with the BFI and BBC to develop the rough cut and getting a cinema release amid lockdown. What a thrill to have these two as my guests. Not only do I love their work but they are both smart, funny people who love their culture and love to talk about it. Perfect for SAGL.Anne Marie Duff can be seen on BBC iPlayer at the moment starring in The Salisbury Poisonings, a brilliantly gripping reconstruction drama about the Novichok incident involving Russian spies in the west country cathedral city. Stu Bennett's transformational story from a shy, skinny kid growing up in the north of England to five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and 'King of the Ring' - known by his pro-wrestling name, Wade Barrett - seems like a dream come true. The story belies years of hard work and even harder knocks; a steady climb from the amateur circuit in the UK to securing a contract with the biggest wrestling organisation in the world, only to have his mind and body tested to the limit. By the time he quit professional wrestling in 2016 - refusing to sign another lucrative deal with the WWE - he was out for the count, both mentally and physically, and determined to turn his back on the sport which he had loved and admired so much as a kid. Like so many WWE stars before him - The Rock, Dave Bautista and John Cena among them - the movies beckoned; specially, work in the UK with filmmakers including James Nunn (for 2016's Eliminators) and Ross Boyask (for 2018's I Am Vengeance). It is his role as the tough mercenary John Gold in the I Am Vengeance films which sees Stu play a good guy for the very first time - a far cry from the boos he would receive as an antagonist throughout his wrestling career. It is a role he would like to see continue as he progresses in the film and television industry. His new movie, I Am Vengeance: Retaliation, sees him square up to fellow British hard man, Vinnie Jones; it is released today in the UK on digital courtesy of Evolutionary Films. Sal and Bob dine at the Capital Grille in Chicago and talk about horror movies, Norman Greenbaum's One Hit Wonder “Spirit in the Sky” from 1969, and have a great interview with Kelly Demaret. Bob thinks it's fascinating that an observant Jewish person wrote a mega hit about Jesus, and that Greenbaum found inspiration for the song in Western movies. Bob asks Sal if he was swaddled when he came to the US from Italy in 1969. Bin yaps about the Stoli Doli, the signature drink at Capital Grille. Sal goes nuts for the filet mignon. Bob goes into an extended rant about he gets confused with another Bob Phillips, who is a compiler of what he calls “Bob Phillips Good Clean Jokes.” Bob tells some of the awful jokes in the book. Sal is all hepped up about Jeopardy, and James Holzhauer's winning streak. Sal says NBC is running out of money. Sal feels sorry for the other contestants. Bob acts like a jerk and makes fun of Stephen Hawking on Jeopardy. Bob talks about his OCD and Sal says he doesn't care about how many times he washes his hands or whether numbers are even or odd. Sal tells his Whopper Jr. story and cracks Bob up. Bob laughs that Sal has to have his Whopper Jr. cut in half. Sal and Bob talk about how they were accosted by two critics at their home “office” at Hyde Park. Sal is so nice he gives them a Sal & Bob business card and Bob marvels at his salesmanship. Bob brags that Sal and Bob now have 20,000 listeners. Sal introduces actress Kelly Demaret, who is also one of the producers of a new movie that Sal invested in, called “30 Miles From Nowhere.” The movie stars Seana Kofoed, who was also a producer on the film. It's a horror movie about good friends reuniting for a friend's funeral, and Kelly gives us a great rundown of how the movie was made, stories from the set, and the challenges encountered with producing the labor of love. Kelly shares some insight into filmmaking and how they had a “No Asshole” rule on set, and how she had to fire a dog because he was too gentle. The movie can be purchased at Walmart and watched on Comcast. Big fun talking movies, and all the usual Sal and Bob nonsense this episode. Tune in!
