Legislating From a Perspective of Faith and YouthImagine being the youngest face in the room as you try to find your footing among seasoned legislators. That is the struggle Ty Mathews, one of the youngest legislators at the Ohio Statehouse, has had to face as he follows his faith in Jesus and forges a clear path for his constituents in the 83rd District. In this episode of the Cedarville Stories podcast, freshman representative Ty Mathews shares his journey to the Ohio Statehouse, where he's still getting his feet wet in his third month on the job.Ty's story begins at Cedarville University, where he balanced ROTC training with political and biblical studies, learning to lead with both discipline and faith. At Cedarville, Ty was introduced to a worldview that combined leadership with purpose, an experience that still shapes how he approaches his work today. He credits his time there for grounding him in Christian values that continue to guide his decisions in the Statehouse. Now, as one of the youngest members of the Ohio legislature, Ty is already working hard to make a difference. In the podcast, he shares his main priority — the Ohio Defense Initiative — which aims to bring high-tech defense companies to Ohio, tapping into the state's strategic military assets like Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. His plan is to create high-paying jobs and foster innovation in areas like cybersecurity and drone technology.Through it all, Ty remains grounded in his faith, finding strength in the values he developed at Cedarville. His story is a testament to the power of youthful ambition, faith, and determination. Even though he's early in his political career, Ty is already showing that age doesn't determine impact — purpose does.https://share.transistor.fm/s/c3aade88https://youtu.be/h31q8O0_DWI

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they discuss Jeff Bezos' pledge to make The Washington Post's op-ed page a champion of personal and economic freedom, the blatant hypocrisy of Democrats on immigration, and the media's shifting narrative on inflation.First, they cautiously welcome Bezos' public commitment to discussing the virtues of personal liberty and free markets. While they dislike his stance that opposing views won't be featured, they appreciate that arguments for limited government will reach a wider audience.Next, they highlight the astonishing hypocrisy of congressional Democrats. After years of condemning Trump's deportation policies, they've suddenly found an immigrant they don't trust. Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur is now questioning Elon Musk's loyalty to the U.S. because he's only been in the country for 22 years. Finally, they call out the media's sudden concern over rising egg prices after years of downplaying inflation under Biden. While they agree Trump isn't responsible for the cost of eggs, they note voters will soon demand real results from him on both food prices and overall inflation. Please visit out great sponsors:If I needed to find a doctor quickly, Zocdoc is what I'd use. Sean Patrick Brennan, D-District 14State Representative Sean Patrick Brennan has dedicated his life to public service. Sadly, his mother later suffered through an abusive relationship. As a result, Rep. Home valuations are up in Ohio. And in some parts of the state, valuations have spiked more than 30%. Since property taxes are based on valuations, some homeowners are likely to get a big shock when they open their next tax bill. Lawmakers say their voters are worried about it. So what is the legislature doing about it? Lawmakers have introduced more than a dozen bills, have a committee looking into it, and are even considering putting an issue before voters statewide to deal with spiking property tax rates. But it ends there. Most political watchers think meaningful property tax reforms are unlikely this year. Ohio Statehouse Scoop host Jo Ingles explores what's being done and, just as importantly, what's not being done. She's joined by Ohio Rep. Scott Wiggam (R-Wayne County), Buckeye Institute Research Fellow Greg Lawson, and Ohio Policy Matters Executive Director Hannah Halbert. At the end of the podcast, Ohio Public Media Statehouse Bureau Chief Karen Kasler and Reporter Sarah Donaldson join Jo to weigh in on their observations.

Speaker Mike Johnson: I believe he loves the Lord Jesus, but as I say in the title of this episode, I don't think that He trusts Jesus. If you trust Jesus, how could you give in on passing a bill that denies the Lord Jesus on every front and is adverse to everything He calls good. How do you trust Jesus and give into a timeline? If only we knew the Lord was still in charge. Chip Roy is calling out social conservative groups for caring more about political power than standing up for their causes. Although, there is no such thing as a social conservative. Because of this time crunch, speaker Johnson has also funded the continuing of the lie of transgenderism and the harm being done by that lie. And, we are seeing repeated cases of criminals, who should not be in the country, raping people. Not all immigrants are criminals, and we aren't to live in fear. I don't fear this because I trust Jesus. In Massachusetts, the Governor was asked about a disabled girl who was raped by an illegal immigrant and you will be shocked to hear her answer. What does God's Word say? Ezekiel 14:1-51 Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me. 2 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 3 “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all? 4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry. 5 I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.'Episode 1,490 Links:@chiproytx accuses social conservative groups of "cowering in the corner" over the spending bill: "All you social conservative groups out there...where the hell are you?
