Ben is back from Seattle and incredibly excited to talk about it! On day one he met Becky, Ty, David, Haylee, Rob, and Brandon… all of whom he hope will consider being a guest on 2VP in the future. Games he played or saw demos of include: “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” “Wild Country,” “Cuisineer,” “Sail Forth,” “World of Horror,” and “Demonschool.” Of course it wouldn't be Two Vague without diversions. Ben talks about his college PC, cooking in games, the origin of yacht rock, Junji Ito, and Mortal Kombat's friendliest finishers. 00:00:20 - Intro and a brief history of the Penny Arcade Expo also known as PAX 00:04:16 - Going to PAX West 2023 my plans and expectations as a content creator 00:06:09 - Inspiration from travelogues, MS Excel love, and the next 3 episodes 00:07:43 - The slightly altered “Podcast in a Bag” theme… Seattle edition 00:07:55 - A sustainably sourced breakfast at Homegrown - https://eathomegrown.com/ 00:08:32 - Playing UbiSoft's “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown” demo - https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/prince-of-persia/the-lost-crown 00:11:35 - The original Prince of Persia games and memories of my 486DX 00:12:46 - The “Wild Country” demo with Becky from Lost Native - https://www.lostnative.co/wild-country 00:16:31 - Playing BattleBrew Production's “Cuisineer” - https://www.cuisineerthegame.com/ 00:18:58 - Remembering episode 63 on the word cook and the game BattleChef Brigade 00:20:35 - Playing Quantum Astrophysics Guild's “Sail Forth” with publisher Ty and game designer David - https://www.qag.io/sail-forth.html 00:25:33 - The “yacht rock” interlude with Christopher Cross' hit song Sailing (NOT literally) 00:26:32 - Playing “World of Horror” with Rob from Ysbryd - https://www.wohgame.com/ 00:30:39 - Manga horror writer Junji Ito, and Ben is most interest in the one with the cats 00:33:41 - Playing Necrosoft's “Demonschool” with game designer Brandon - https://necrosoftgames.com/demonschool/ 00:39:43 - Mortal Kombat friendships, Jax playing jazz saxophone, and congressional hearings 00:41:30 - Dinner at Dough Zone - https://www.doughzonedumplinghouse.com/seattlepine Follow Two Vague on… Our website: http://www.twovaguepodcast.com On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/two_vague_podcast On YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/@twovaguepodcast For show appearance requests and other inquiries, contact us at: twovaguepodcast@gmail.com #PAXWest2023 #PAX2023 #LostNative #UbiSoft, #QAG, #Ysbryd, #Necrosoft #ReedPop
Yons is playing Borderlands with his son, and living out the example his big brother gave him. Yons is a musician, music teacher, and producer. You can check him out on his website, or listen to his music on Spotify. Here's some stuff we talked about: Our Feelings Borderlands 2 is how Yons bonds with his son. Red Dead Redemption 2 may have been a little too cinematic? Yons has never played the "original-intent" version of Skyrim. Sonic 2 was Yons' safe place with his brother. Spotify does have a whole Nerdcore Mix, and idk, it's kinda embarassing mostly. I think the guy I was thinking of performing at Penny Arcade Expo was MC Frontalot. Video Game Feelings is an Area Code Audio production. Hosted and produced by Richard Clark. Associate produced by Nettie Smith. Additional help from Ashley Whitehurst and Matthew Linder.
Tracy joins Ben this week to converse about the word role! From jobs, to theatre, to games, the word role plays important… um… role in our day to day lives. However, these two love games, so this conversation revolves mostly around tabletop games and RPGs. Discussion topics include: acting, the now defunct Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (by Paizo), Betrayal at House on the Hill (2004 Avalon Hill / 2010 Hasbro), Among Us, going to conventions, the new game Stray, and Disco Elysium. 00:02:20 - The word is role (not roll), NQ, and “what's the deal with all the hats?” 00:06:22 - Tracy's acting experiences, and Ben's missed extra opportunity 00:10:31 - We know no French, the origin of role, and manual vs computer assisted games 00:13:07 - Tracy's experiences playing the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game remotely 00:18:29 - How much actual playing a role is involved in Pathfinder? 00:21:15 - The battle axe, the inclusive nature of some games, and rescuing Kevin 00:25:59 - What is the “replay value” of the Pathfinder ACG? 00:29:22 - “Closing the Wound of the World,” and how much strategy is involved 00:33:02 - The board game Betrayal at House on the Hill and its similarities to Among Us 00:37:41 - Finding new board games on Boing Boing, and Ben's memories of Games magazine 00:39:44 - The Penny Arcade Expo, conventions, and gaming in a “post-pandemic” world 00:45:50 - Ben's playing the role of a cat helping a robot, and Tracy says, “SIGN ME UP!” 00:49:29 - Tracy talks enthusiastically about her Disco Elysium play through 00:55:16 - Why is Ben having trouble immersing himself in the world of Disco Elysium? 00:57:32 - Tracy has an excellent suggestion… focus on the “redemption arc” 01:02:29 - Tracy's final thoughts on the word role, and Ben has one last question for her 01:05:21 - Tracy's answer reminds Ben of some interesting Disco Elysium history 01:09:18 - Mapping the old fashioned way, and closing with Ben's old D&D pickup line
Big news as scalpers get their come-uppance. Thouands of console orders get canceled, that's one good thing to happen this year. In the news, Oscar Isaac is penned to play Solid Snake, Kratos is coming to Fortnite and the Penny Arcade Expo releases tentative convention dates. All that and Dan makes a passioned plea to get a PS5 on episode 247 of Rated G for Gamers.
Many of life's events that you go through are unexpected. Whether you plan months in advance, or they just happen on the fly, in the end, there's no telling how a certain experience could go. We can't truly predict what next week or even tomorrow will bring for us as we've seen this year. All there is to do is step in and see it all for yourself, and I had the joy of experiencing this feeling last January when I flew to San Antonio to meet people I've never met before in a city I've never been to. My brain has no idea how to plan for the weekend I'm about to undergo, but in the end, that's the best way to prepare. Just, not knowing. Some of the best things you experience are the ones that you don't expect to know what's going to happen. So let's see what became of this event where I simply knew nothing but came out learning something. And thank you for being here for Clean's Chats. With a revived vigor, Dan and Andrew tackle one of the [relatively] biggest topics yet: Doctor Who. Not to worry, however, because they surround their Doctor Who talk with the usual thoughtful commentary about topics that For All Intents and Purposes envelops. Week in Geek: Andrew watches To Be Takei and Dan talks about working with an artist on Long John. The Mass Effect Series: Another installment in their look at culturally and intellectually important video games, Dan and Andrew expand their breadth and discuss why the entire Mass Effect series is so important. Discussion: As expected, Andrew and Dan watched the new episode of Doctor Who's Series 8, "Deep Breath", a bit too closely and have a lot of things to say about it, focusing on the 12th Doctor (as played by Peter Capaldi), its themes, and how it fits in to the show overall. The Big Lebowski: Expanding their breadth even more, Dan and Andrew discuss a movie that they feel is culturally and intellectually important, hoping to expose an angle on the Coen Bros.' The Big Lebowski that you haven't really considered before. Question: Much like Comic Con before it, another huge convention is about to happen––the Penny Arcade Expo, colloquially known as PAX (or PAX Prime). So, with that in mind we want to know, What came out of PAX that got you excited and/or intrigued? Since it hasn't happened yet, Andrew and Dan couldn't quite answer the question. However, we'd love to hear from you! Leave a comment at the post for this episode at forall.libsyn.com, or e-mail us at forallpod@gmail.com. For all intents and purposes, that was an episode recap. Music from this episode: -"Stayin' in Black" by Wax Audio -"Saren" by Jack Wall (from Mass Effect: Original Soundtrack) -"New Worlds" by Jack Wall (from Mass Effect 2) -"Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.
As the Penny Arcade Expo approaches we discuss the good and the bad side of Co-Op games. Chad starts Valiant Hearts: The Great War and Hearthstone. Emilio orders the last parts for his new computer, and Bobby re-visits Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

Mike Murphy recorded a podcast about everything he saw during day 2 at PAX East 2010 as Eddie Inzauto, Jason Fanelli, and the others listened in, but with some heavy editing and internet magic, GamerNode has managed to come away with a more balanced discussion of the crew's Penny-Arcade Expo day 2 experience. Skate 3, Mafia II, Crackdown 2, APB, Shank, Two Worlds II, Splinter Cell Conviction are all touched upon along with karaoke, drinks, and a panel about the greatest games of all time. The end of the podcast has been left mostly untouched to give faithful VS Node listeners a little taste of the insanity of the earlier parts of the recording and the state of certain podcasters. Enjoy. Thanks to Lady Gaga for the awesome background music, and to Brian Schulman for the rad No Bounds interlude.
