To quote Mark Ronson and featuring Bruno Mars, "Julio, get the stretch, Ride to Harlem, Hollywood, Jackson, Mississippi." Not sure if the Atch-Attack had a stretch limo for the visit, but he did stop in at Offbeat. On this episode, like Johnny and June, the Roadshow is going to Jackson. Jackson, MS, that is, and unlike Johnny and June, the fire has not gone out...in fact, this comic shop has the Roadshow all fired up! This episode's featured shop is OffBeat, one of the most unique and inspiring comic shops Mike has been to. The founder and owner is Phillip Rollins AKA DJ Young Venom, who describes OffBeat as an “Alternative Culture Store” and a refuge. It is Mississippi's only Black-owned record and comic book store and also serves as “an art gallery for young minority artists and a venue for up and coming musicians, comedians, and poets of all ages. In short, a space for people to be themselves.” Listen to Mike's interview with Phillip, and then join Mike and a very special co-host, Peter Rios from the Daily Rios, as they review Eisner Award-winning Rob Guillory's excellent first volume of Farmhand. Next time you are “going to Jackson”, you really must experience OffBeat...it has Mike's highest recommendations! A big thanks to Phillip Rollins for giving the Roadshow the chance to hear your great story! Be sure to visit or contact OffBeat at 109 North State St., Jackson, Mississippi 39201, (601) 376-9404, and veryoffbeat@gmail.com. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Dr. Peter Rios, author, leadership consultant, professor at the Pacific School of Religion, and Ignite's Academic Director, to learn what he discovered about himself that led him to shift from teaching in churches to teaching in classrooms and within organizations. He talks with us about the limited voices and representation in higher education and the corporate sector, and what it takes to bring justice and equity to these spaces. He highlights the importance of seeking out coaches or mentors from marginalized spaces, so people of color can continue to do the hard work of justice for human flourishing and organizational thriving. We learn how white supremacy doesn't just harm people of color, and the importance of us all fighting for a more just, equitable world for all. Here's to you, Tim, and thank you. (1:28:50)

Here is a conversation I had in late summer/early fall about the comic industry and the issues regarding comic professionals and their behavior in comic conventions with fans, up and coming creators and peers – specifically about sexual harassment. We talk about what we’ve seen and how it’s been talked about over the last decade... I am your host Darrell Taylor and Welcome to a very Action Packed episode of DC All Stars. First off with the recent passing of a legend Denny O'Neil we discuss his impact on the comic industry & then we move to discussing the aftermath of Leviathan by covering Action Comics issues 1012-1021 and after that we get into the DC 's decision to cut ties with Diamond distribution and what that could mean long term. Joining me to do all this is my cohosts Peter Rios and Hassan. Peter Rios is on the line for this episode, in which we express our initial enthusiasm for the Big Two's recently announced mega-events of Spring 2015: DC's multiverse-manifesting 'Convergence', and Marvel's new spin on 'Secret Wars'! Also, a brief rave from Pants about the current volume of 'Elektra'; famous quotations from Howard Chaykin; and other bits'n'bobs. (1:11:51)
We find time in this episode for a 'Jamie's Avengers' 10K race update, a few thoughts about current Avengers comics, and a Peter Rios soapbox speech or two, but our main focus is movies, and in particular a SPOILER-laden look at that sensational '70s period piece, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. (1:35:04)
In this super-sized episode Shawn is joined by special guest Peter Rios (The Daily Rios Podcast) as they discuss the Justice League: Detroit era and 80's comics. Later in the show Donny Salvo swings by to discuss The Amazing Spider-Man, his personal Planet of the Apes movie-marathon, comics, tangents, and Shawn activates his "Samuel L. Jackson" mode in a response to an irate fanboy.
In this episode we say good bye to our friend and uber comic geek, Peter Rios, as he retires from podcasting. We also discuss some comics we've read. (1:27:36)
This week we review Dark Wolverine 75 and 76, Cable 17, Uncanny 514 and Forever 5. We then bring Peter Rios back to defend his X-Cast Password title vs. colorist Brian Reber! In retros we finish Mutant Massacre with Thor 374, XF11, DD 238 and UXM 213. And as always we finish up with a Fastball Special.
