#567 Allie Siarto is a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in East Lansing, Michigan, and host of the Photo Field Notes podcast. The episode is a deep dive into the importance of creating a world-class experience for portrait clients, a factor Allie emphasizes as crucial for building client loyalty and generating referrals in the photography business. Through engaging stories and clear advice, Allie illustrates how exceptional service, thoughtful preparation, and emotional connections often outweigh technical perfection in client satisfaction.KEY TOPICS COVEREDThe Power of Client Experience Over Technical Perfection - Allie explains that while technical skill is important, the client's emotional experience during the shoot has a greater impact on their satisfaction. Providing guidance, being prepared, and making clients comfortable often leads to higher perceived value and greater word-of-mouth referrals.Practical Steps for Improving Client Experience - Major points include communicating proactively (e.g., style guides, prep emails), planning for logistics (like family lists and timeline management), dressing professionally, and using prompts to create genuine moments. Real-world examples such as helping clients find venues or ensuring parents feel included underscore how small efforts make a big difference.Continuous Learning and Reflection - Allie shares her own learning curve, including mistakes (like not asking parents if they wanted more photos), and details how she implements those lessons to continually improve. The importance of treating early years in business as an extension of education is highlighted, encouraging listeners to seek feedback and view setbacks as opportunities.IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS & CONCEPTSClient Experience: The cumulative impressions and feelings that clients have throughout their interactions with a photographer, from initial inquiry to final image delivery. Ensuring a positive client experience can be a greater predictor of success and referrals than technical image quality alone.Unposed Posing: A posing style that uses prompts and interactive questions to evoke natural expressions and genuine emotion, rather than traditional, static posing. This approach helps even uncomfortable clients relax, leading to more authentic and memorable images.DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONSHow do you currently manage the experience of your clients before, during, and after a shoot? What areas can you improve based on Allie's advice?Think about a time you had a remarkable or disappointing service experience (outside of photography). What specific factors made the difference, and how can you apply those lessons to your photography business?RESOURCES:Visit Allie Siarto's Website - http://alliesiarto.com/Follow Allie Siarto on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/alliesiarto/Grab your free 52 Lightroom Presets athttp://freephotographypresets.com/ Sign up for your free CloudSpot Account today at www.DeliverPhotos.comConnect with Raymond! Mastering pet photography is an art that involves much more than just a camera and a cute subject. Laurie Elmer and Knicki Knowlton of Urban Dog Studio have crafted an engaging podcast episode that guides pet lovers through the magic of utilizing light to create stunning pet portraits. This episode is a goldmine for pet owners looking to immortalize their furry friends in photographs that are not just memorable but emotionally captivating.Light is a crucial element in photography, shaping the mood and atmosphere of every shot. Understanding how to work with different lighting conditions can transform a simple pet photo into a masterpiece. The podcast episode begins by highlighting the significance of light and its impact on photography. It addresses common issues such as the harsh midday glare, and why the soft, warm glow of the golden hour is a photographer's dream.Laurie and Knicki offer practical advice that can be applied using any camera, from smartphones to professional DSLRs. They discuss how the direction and quality of light can drastically change the outcome of a photo. For example, placing a subject under a tree might seem like a good idea for a shade, but the uneven dappled light can create unflattering hot spots. Instead, they suggest positioning subjects in open light with a dappled background to achieve a balanced exposure. The episode is not just about instruction; it's about inspiring listeners to experiment with their pets and cameras. The hosts encourage their audience to step outside and play with natural light, capturing emotions and moments without the safety net of editing software. This approach promotes a deeper understanding of photography and the satisfaction of achieving beautiful results in-camera.This episode on pet photography is more than a tutorial; it's an invitation to view the world through a different light, literally and figuratively. By mastering the use of light, pet owners can produce images that not only showcase the beauty of their pets but also convey the bond and affection they share and a newfound appreciation for the art of pet photography.https://www.urbandogstudio.com/See photo example here:https://www.urbandogstudio.com/lets-bark-about-it-tampa-bay/2wjjvikaqmoaxdlf347r3us5ehb1j2Tampa Bay realtor and Dog Lover Leslie Haas Realty One Group Sunshine https://tampabayhomesforsale.realestate Art for Profit's Sake podcast-Discussions with artists at different stages of their business. I don't know which camera to buy.Is this lens worth the cost?Should I go for flash or continuous lights?Deciding on which camera equipment to buy is never easy. It almost always comes down to our budget and whether it's worth the investment. Have you ever bought a piece of gear and found that it wasn't really worth buying, didn't improve your photography or was too inconvenient to use? We've all spent money on equipment we didn't really need & we've all dreamt of certain equipment we wish we had in our collection. Photography is an expensive craft and we need to be extremely careful where we invest. In this week's podcast episode, I'll share one of the best ways to save time and money while investing in photography equipment. Sometimes we wish to upgrade our gear, sometimes we need to replace it and sometimes we are intrigued by a new technology in the market. If we can strengthen our selection process, it can actually save us dollars but also headache, frustration and stress. Here's a simple practice, no matter which stage of the creative journey you're in, that can be a huge game-changer in our photography investment and skills improvement. The photography equipment we own depends a lot on our personal preferences, our workflow and the kind of work we create either for ourselves or for our clients. It takes many factors for a certain equipment to work for us and take our skills to the next level. One wrong choice can set us back hundreds and thousands of dollars. It can also set us back in our confidence and in feeling skillful - that's how important it is to make our equipment choice wisely. There is a way for us to make an informed decision which has a 100% guarantee of working for us. If you're wondering if that's really possible, I want to tell you, it absolutely is.Spend your money on the right equipment, save the headache of decision-making & become a more skillful photographer in the process. 178 - Do you know what the biggest difference between DSLR and mirrorless is? There's no mirror!Ummmm … duh, Nicole. That's why they call it "mirror-less." But really, when you make the switch to mirrorless, you might even be holding your shutter release button down and thinking the whole time "I got a lemon! This thing isn't doing anything." Meanwhile, you just loaded 8,362 images onto your memory card because you didn't hear a thing. Haha! Can a memory card even hold 8,362 images? Seriously, though, you guys, there are some major differences between your digital single lens reflex camera and the new mirrorless systems.
