In this episode of Lab Rats to Unicorns, John Flavin sits down with Casey McPherson, a musician, songwriter, and rare disease advocate whose life took an extraordinary turn when his daughter, Rose, was diagnosed with HNRNPH2, an ultra-rare neurodevelopmental disorder. Best known for his work as the lead vocalist and songwriter for Alpha Rev and Flying Colors, Casey has spent much of his career crafting powerful music that resonates deeply with audiences. But when faced with the challenges of navigating the healthcare system for rare diseases, Casey turned his creativity, resilience, and determination toward a new mission: advancing precision medicine for underserved patient communities. As the founder of To Cure a Rose Foundation, Everlum Bio, and Chrysalis Genetics, Casey is revolutionizing the way treatments for rare diseases are approached. In this conversation, he shares how his experiences as an artist helped him find innovative ways to connect, problem-solve, and advocate for change in biotech. Casey's journey is a testament to the power of resilience, collaboration, and the unwavering love of a parent determined to make a difference. Join us as Casey discusses his transition from music to medicine, the importance of collaboration in rare disease research, and how he's working to create scalable solutions for patient communities that have been overlooked for far too long. This episode is an inspiring exploration of how passion and creativity can drive impact in even the most unexpected arenas.

NEAL MORSE & THE RESONANCE ANNOUNCE NEW RELEASE ‘NO HILL FOR A CLIMBER' AND LAUNCH FIRST SINGLE “ALL THE RAGE' EXCLUSIVE SPECIAL EVENT ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS WITH RAY SHASHO! Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Neal Morse is an American singer, musician and composer based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1992, he formed the progressive rock band Spock's Beard with his brother Alan, he joined Dream Theater's co-founder and then drummer Mike Portnoy, formed the super-group Transatlantic. In 2002, Neal Morse became a born-again Christian, left Spock's Beard and began a Christian rock solo career, releasing many progressive rocks concept albums about his new religious faith, He continued to play with Transatlantic and formed three new bands with Portnoy, Yellow Matter Custard, Flying Colors and The Neal Morse Band. One of his most recent projects included two critically acclaimed solo releases with D'Virgilio, Morse & Jennings. Throughout his long career, Neal Morse has often been a musical collaborator, usually with some of the greatest prog musicians across the world. This time, Morse has brought that collaborative spirit closer to home. The new album by Neal Morse & The Resonance – entitled ‘No Hill for A Climber' will be released November 8th, 2024, and the title is taken from a resonant line in Barbara Kingsolver's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Demon Copperhead. PLEASE WELCOME AMERICAN SINGER,SONGWRITER,MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST NEAL MORSE TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS … PREORDER NO HILL FOR A CLIMBER BY NEAL MORSE AND THE RESONANCE OFFICALLY REALEASED NOVEMBER 8TH Pre-order now here: https://nealmorse.lnk.to/NoHillForAClimber To coincide with the announcement, the track ‘All The Rage' has been launched with a brand new video. Watch it now here: https://youtu.be/BSXjvdHqADk?si=F_0g0Inzs48UoJvy “Awesome album! I can safely say this will be a fave of the year for me!” – Mike Portnoy Faithful to any Neal Morse prog album, ‘No Hill For A Climber' features two epics (the 28 minute ‘No Hill For A Climber' and ‘Eternity In Your Eyes', which clocks in at 22 minutes) as well as three shorter songs: ‘Ever Interceding', ‘All The Rage' and ‘Thief'. The latter, Morse admits, is his current favorite: “It's so different… it's in all these different sections, and I'm really happy with the way each part has come out. It's pretty crazy. There's even a really cool King Crimson-style instrumental bit in the middle that Chris Riley originally came up with at the Radiant School a couple of years ago.” For all of these reasons, Morse believes that the whole album is unique, but notes that “if I was going to compare its structure to an album I've done in the past, it might be along the lines of ‘Bridge Across Forever' or Spock's Beard's ‘V'; it's not that it sounds at all like those albums, it's just structurally similar. It has voices and playing styles and soundscapes that many people will have never heard before! Everyone you work with changes you a little bit, so even sound a little different on this one, but I hope that everyone will love it!” FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT NEAL MORSE & RADIANT RECORDS VISIT https://nealmorse.com/ Official website https://nealmorse.com/morsefest-2024-2025/ Morsefest official website https://www.facebook.com/nealmorse/ Facebook https://x.com/nealmorse Twitter https://www.instagram.com/neal_morse_official Instagram https://www.youtube.com/user/NealMorseMusic/featured YouTube TOUR DATES Moresefest November 8, 2024 - November 9, 2024 White House, TN Morsefest 2024 USA @ New Life Fellowship November 15, 2024 - November 16, 2024 Zoetermeer, The Netherlands Morsefest 2024 EU @ De Boerderij January 17, 2025 - January 18, 2025 Brentwood, London, UK Morsefest 2025 UK @ Trinity Church NEAL MORSE Discography With Spock's Beard Main article: Spock's Beard § Discography The Light (1995) Beware of Darkness (1996) The Kindness of Strangers (1998) Day for Night (1999) V (2000) Snow (2002) Singer-songwriter albums Neal Morse (1999) It's Not Too Late (2002) Songs from the Highway (2007) Songs from November (2014) Life & Times (2018) Late Bloomer (2024) Neal Morse & The Resonance No Hill for a Climber (2024) Prog albums Testimony (2003) One (2004) ? Full Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/dixie-dregsSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeSteve Morse and Andy West are legendary players. In addition to co-founding the Dixie Dregs together in Augusta, Georgia, in 1970, both virtuosos have colorful personal resumes. Guitar giant Morse's is more high-profile. He remains the leader of the Steve Morse Band, who opened the Dregs's late April show at Nashville's CMA Theater, where this Rundown was filmed, with 45 minutes of smart shred. He's also been a member of Kansas and Deep Purple, as well as another instrumental powerhouse, Flying Colors.Besides his tenure in the Dregs, West has recorded with Vinnie Moore, the Steve Morse Band, Paul Barrere, and Henry Kaiser, with whom he's been a member of the Mistakes, Crazy Backwards Alphabet, and Five Time Surprise, which also includes Messthetics guitarist Anthony Pirog. (Full disclosure: I recorded a version of Steppenwolf's “The Pusher” with Kaiser and West as part of Kaiser's Moods & Modes of Halloween video quarterly in 2023.)The Music City show was classic Dixie Dregs, with more than two hours of high-wire playing, all anchored by the bold melodies that mark their compositions. Joined by longtime Dregs drummer Rod Morgenstein, violinist Allen Sloan, and keyboard player Steve Davidowski, the concert was an affirmation of Morse and West's vitality and musical partnership after sharing stages for more than 50 years. Of course they do!I have many friends and former colleagues who listen frequently.Last week Chairman Todd Harper opened his industry webinar by referencing an earlier episode of With Flying Colors.Listen to hear what he said and a flashback to what We said here, and a summary of what this means for credit unions. Also remember what Machiavelli said about reorganizations:“It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage than a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institution and merely lukewarm defenders in those who gain by the new ones. ”
After a week filled with more off-field drama and uncertainty, Juventus delivered their best performance of the season against a Lazio side that went into the international break with a win over the reigning champs. On Episode 171 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was — including Juve's international break was chaotic and the off-field issues could have distracted the team again ... but it didn't, how possession continues to be a funny thing like it was against Lazio, and how there is an attitude difference in this season's Juventus team and it's most on display in goal celebrations. So, that win over Lazio ... pretty good! How significant of a chance — for the better! — this season has been so far and how Juve are getting it done on both ends of the field through their first four games. John Young From Lifesigns - The Now Spinning Magazine Podcast On this episode I am delighted to be joined by John Young from PROG Rock band Lifesigns John is celebrated musician known for his incredible versatility and contributions to the progressive rock scene. He's a songwriter, a keyboardist, a vocalist, and a composer who has worked with a diverse range of artists, from Steeleye Span to Bon Jovi. Lifesigns is a fantastic band band who I would describe as English Pastoral Prog, for those of you new to the band who are looking for a reference point I would say if you are a fan of Early Genesis, Camel, Flying Colors, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, The Tangent you would be pretty close! Lifesigns, debut album made waves in 2013, even making it to the UK top 100 album chart. The band began touring in 2014, with Jon Poole stepping in for Nick Beggs, and Niko Tsonev joining the lineup. Their performances at major festivals and events, including Cruise To The Edge and Night of the Prog, were notable highlights. The band released a live DVD and double audio CD, Live In London, recorded at Under The Bridge at Chelsea Football Club. Their second album, Cardington, launched in 2017, was a crowd-funded success, featuring guest appearances from renowned artists and reaching the top ten in the Amazon national chart. Lifesigns continued to tour and perform live, releasing the single Impossible in 2020, which introduced them to a broader audience. The band underwent a lineup change with the departure of Frosty and the arrival of Zoltán Csörsz in 2020. Despite recording their album Altitude remotely, the band's synergy was palpable, leading to a successful live performance on Cruise To The Edge in 2022. Their summer 2022 tour resulted in a double live album, to be released in July, with a blu-ray to follow. The band are about to embark on a European Tour and then start writing and recording their fourth studio album. For more details on Lifesigns please visit their website Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine

We celebrate Free Comic Book Day with Jesse Lonergan and Steve Anderson from Third Eye Comics. Our first-ever spectacular promoting the annual event where comic readers collide to nab free comics but, more importantly, buy comics. Free Comic Book Day is a shop appreciation day, not a customer appreciation day. So, be kind, say thank you, and discover a new universe of titles and characters. Exploration is your mission. In our first portion, we chat extensively with Steve Anderson about his new Buys and Bargains Third Eye Comics location in Annapolis, Maryland. What purpose does this particular store offer that the others don't? What goodies did we come away with during our little shop preview? What does the retailer of one of the country's best comic shops think about the industry today, and what are the comics he's most excited to read? We get into it. In our second half, we speak with cartoonist extraordinaire Jesse Lonergan about his new Mike Mignola collaboration, Miss Truesdale and the Fall of Hyperborea, published by Dark Horse Comics. For Hellboy fans, this is an essential entry, further detailing the ancient mythology that frequently steers Anung Un Rama's fate. We discuss the responsibility of working with such precious characters and why Lonergan was such a natural fit. We also get into the weeds of pacing, time, and who controls what within the comics medium. It's another can't-miss conversation. There are few days of the year we enjoy more than Free Comic Book Day. We all owe a lot to Joe Field, the Flying Colors comic shop proprietor who originated the concept. If you would like to know more about the event's origins, be sure to listen to The Short Box podcast. The latest episode features an extensive interview with Field. You should also check out the Comic Book Couples Counseling Free Comic Book Day PSA! Most importantly, visit Third Eye Comics! Follow them on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. You can also keep track of Jesse Lonergan on Twitter, Instagram, and his Website. Wait, there's more! You should listen to our other Mignolaverse celebration with creators Rob Williams and Warwick Johnson-Cadwell. We finally scale the misty mountain of PROG ROCK on the True Tunes Podcast - with none other than the venerable Neal Morse as our guide! As a founding member of Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Flying Colors, and his own Neal Morse Band, he has been setting the standard in modern prog rock for decades. He has also developed his own streaming app to deliver his entire catalog (over 80 albums!) and curates his own Morsefest - an annual gathering of progressive rock fans from around the world. His personal and musical journey is as inspiring as his epic music. We also ponder the backlash "prog" received in the punk / new wave movement of the 70s and what complex, intricate art might offer us as we strive to become deeper thinkers, better discerners, and more imaginative humans.
