It is a pleasure to welcome Dan Walsh to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Born and raised in North St. Louis, Missouri, Dan began comedy in 2004 while deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. During downtime, Dan would perform for fellow Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors to maintain morale. Dan also spent 14 years as a pro wrestler on the independent circuit, which helped form an even more robust understanding of crowds while performing. From 2007 to 2010, he appeared on various MTV competition shows. He starred in Road Rules 2007: Viewers' Revenge as a part of the Pit Crew. Next, he moved on Real World/Road Rules Challenge, where he competed on The Island and The Challenge: Cutthroat. On Cutthroat, Dan was on the Grey Team with longtime friend Abram Boise and future show legends Cara Maria Sorbello, Laurel Stucky, and Sarah Rice. While he was on the team, they won three challenges, but Red Team member Dunbar Merrill sent Dan home in the Gulag challenge: “Die Hard,” near the end of the season. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Dan Walsh spoke about his Road Rules casting story, appearing on one of The Challenge's controversial seasons: The Island, and how his experience on that show saved his life. He gave his take on some of the late-night television's most prominent emcees and spoke about working in the stand-up comedy world.

Host Jesse Janedy discusses weeks 6 & 7 of The Real World. ABOUT THE REAL WORLD: The Real World (also known as simply Real World) is a reality television program on MTV originally produced by Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray. First broadcast in 1992, the show, which was inspired by the 1973 PBS documentary series An American Family, is the longest-running program in MTV history and one of the longest-running reality series in history, credited with launching the modern reality TV genre. The series was hailed in its early years for depicting issues of contemporary young-adulthood relevant to its core audience, such assex, prejudice, religion, abortion, illness, sexuality, AIDS, death, politics, and substance abuse, but later garnered a reputation as a showcase for immature and irresponsible behavior. Following Bunim's death from breast cancer in 2004, Bunim/Murray Productions continues to produce the program. The 30th season, set in Chicago, premiered on December 16, 2014. The series has generated two notable spin-offs, both broadcast by MTV: Road Rules, which lasted for 14 seasons (1995–2007), and the ongoing reality game show The Challenge (originally known as Road Rules: All Stars before being renamed Real World/Road Rules Challenge after both its precursors), which has run for over 20 seasons since 1998. The Challenge is mostly cast-contestant dependent on both The Real World and Road Rules, as it combines contestants from various seasons of both shows. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Grab your giant cell phones and prepare to get muy emocianado, because this week’s episode is mashing up the grim Spanish Civil War fantasy of Pan’s Labyrinth with the overbearingly bright and sunny sitcom Saved by the Bell! Join us for the weirdest crossover this side of Real World / Road Rules Challenge, which somehow still yields a full and ready-to-pitch outline for a spec script. (Give us a call, Guillermo!) Just remember: high school is exactly as bad as the Spanish Civil War, and Walt has more than four friends.

What happens when five podcasters stop being polite and start being real? They talk about the Real World (and Road Rules!). This week on the show Kyle and Burnside have an all-star line up featuring Becky Joiner, Julia Prescott, and Tom Seiniger to chat about two of the seminal shows in creating the world of reality television. In the process, they unwittingly open the floodgates for their guests to gab about their favorite reality shows in general. It turns out, The Bachelor is a very popular show and Tom, Becky, and Julia have some strong opinions. But there's still plenty of on topic discussion. Kyle and Julia chat about their love of The Real World: New Orleans and Road Rules: Latin America. Becky breaks down the modern MTV landscape and her love of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge spin off. They also chart the evolution of reality show personalities and the ways in which the format has evolved for better and for worse. They chat about how the show colored their ideas of culture and everybody feels old when they realize Becky is the only person on the episode young enough to still audition for the show. Weekly Rads: Kyle: Roar (movie) Burnside: Riverdale (show) Tom: Gwar (band) Julia: Ladybird (movie) Becky: The Disaster Artist (book)
Getting your music video played on MTV was the goal of almost every musical act in the 1980s and 1990s. (Yes, kids: MTV actually used to play music videos instead of a 24/7 loop of Real World/Road Rules Challenge). And there was nothing to make your music video stand out like have a celebrity - or multiple celebrities - show up for a cameo. Who could deny the celebrity firepower of Rodney Dangerfield, Milton Berle or Ally Sheedy? One of them appearing in your music video = instant hit! We break down the best - and strangest - celebrity music video cameos ever. Jeff's had enough of Michael and Richard's shenanigans, so he's brought in some help - his brother Sam! It's double the Hopkins, double the judgments. Michael's Picks: Eddie Murphy (and others) in "Remember the Time" by Michael Jackson Kim Basinger in "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Christopher Walken in "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim Every Supermodel Ever in Freedom! 90 by George Michael Richard's Choices Paul McCartney in "They Don't Know" by Tracey Ullman Milton Berle in "Round and Round" by Ratt Keanu Reeves in "Rush, Rush" by Paula Abdul Ally Sheedy and Johnny 5 in "Who's Johnny" by El DeBarge

Guitarist/singer/sharp dressed man Tyler Rann graces us with his presence to share some tuff gigs from his days in influential late nineties/early aughts New Jersey-based pop-punk practioneers Midtown. From waking up in trailer parks before the first show of their first tour to performing on indian reservations with natives to bringing bands like My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, and Fallout Boy on their first tour (only to have those acts eclipse Midtown in terms of popularity), to spending way too much money on music videos and carousing with the cast of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge in Jamaica, Tyler sheds some light on a time when kids playing basement shows quickly found themselves performing in arenas. Plenty of potent pop-punk potatables on this week's WORST GIG EVER!
