S&P Futures are in the red this morning as sentiment is weakening. After the close yesterday NVDA announced that they will be subject to export restriction for its H20 chip which is sold to China. China generated $17B or 13% of NVDA total sales last year. China has indicated that it is open to trade talks with the U.S. White House trade officials are said to be asking countries to limit trade activities with China in return for tariff relief. This is being done to isolate China to achieve a better trade deal. Chinese economic data was strong overnight, as business activity ramped up ahead of tariffs. The tariff damage will likely start to show in next month economic data. Market will be hearing from Fed Chair Jerome Powell this afternoon. He is expected to reiterate the strength of the U.S. economy and acknowledge uncertainty ahead due to the Trump Tariffs. On the economic calendar today is the Retail Sale report. This afternoon, LVS, CSX, KMI and AA are schedule to report earnings. On Thursday morning, TSM, UNH AXP & DHI will be reporting.

The ECB rate decision is scheduled for tomorrow. China is scheduled to hold another economic briefing tomorrow on its property market. In Europe, markets are mixed to lower with weakness in luxury and tech stocks. Oil prices are continuing to move lower this morning.

I have read the application and information available on the LCS website (such as the Student and Guardian Handbook) in detail, and some of the information raises concerns as to whether LCS is truly a public school with a culture open and accepting of everyone, or is it a private school culture focused on a select few of like-minded people?As you make this very important decision, I encourage you to analyze the following issues.·        Concern for the governance and location of LCS-EVo   Governance: Per the LCS-EV application, LCS-EV will be governed by the appointed – not elected – LCS Board of Directors. This may be standard practice in a private school – but not in a public school. This board is based in Loveland – not Estes Park. Where is the accountability to Estes Park and the tax-paying public?(LCS-EV application, page 58) o   Location: Per the LCS-EV application, LCS-EV is proposed to be housed at Cornerstone Church of the Estes Valley. If that location does not work out, 2 other Estes Park churches have said they would provide space. Cornerstone Church will receive $50,000 for improvements and $15,000 per year. How can LCS-EV, a public school, funded by public tax dollars, reside within a church, and yet claim this will have no influence? (LCS EV Application pages 82 and 83)o   Furthermore, the pastor of Cornerstone Church of Estes Valley is on the Board of LCS. As I'm sure you are aware, LCS Reserves are from the Thomas School District (TSD). Any formal statement from TSD regarding this must be made public; both communities deserve to be informed.▪        The predicted number of students for LCS-EV is 12 per grade level (grades 1 – 8) for the first year, 2 additional students per grade level the following year, and 1 additional student per grade level for all subsequent years.▪        The LCS-EV application states that they have an ‘intent to enroll' 62 students, however, 20 of those are listed in grades 7 and above – so they will not be eligible when LCS-EV opens. Likewise, the number of ‘intent to enroll' students K-6 is considerably less than (by 50%) the 12 per grade level (just looking at K-6) required in year 1 to be self-sustaining.(LCS-EV application pages 13 and 79)·        Socio-Economic status of students. Will certain requirements/aspects of LCS-EV make it difficult for students of low-income families to enroll in LCS-EV?o   The application states that transportation will not be provided for LCS-EV students. This immediately limits many families from even considering LCS as an option.(LCS EV Application page 83)o   The application does not commit to providing food service. While it discusses some options, not having a firm plan that will ensure its students have access to free meals also eliminates many families.(LCS EV Application pages 83 and 84)o   LVS provides a Dress Code Catalog as a guide for purchasing school-sanctioned clothing. Most of the recommended stores are financially out of reach for low-income families. https://www.lovelandclassical.org/ourpages/auto/2021/9/7/43188581/LCS_Dress_Code_Catalog.pdf?rnd=1631008009000o   There is a $75 per student fee to attend LCS-EV.(LCS EV Application page 80)·        Students being accepted for their authentic selves.o   The dress code for LCS as available on their website as well as in the LCS-EV application makes it clear that a student is to conform to the school's view of what is appropriate (including on a gender basis) and therefore, a student may not be permitted to attend school as their true authentic self, even if a parent is supportive of such choices. And while I agree that a level of dress code is necessary in a public-school setting, the LCS dress code is completely out of date for today's public schools. Board stated Dress Code Purpose: Students, faculty, volunteers, and staff are expected to have a conservative appearance, projecting a wholesome and traditional image at all times.▪        Jewelry/Earrings: Please note that the application and the LCS online dress code for elementary students are not the same. Regarding jewelry, the application states “non-distracting” but the on-line LCS dress code states that only girls are permitted to wear earrings.  Why the discrepancy and why the gender discrimination?▪        Non-ear piercings are not allowed at any grade level at LCS. These types of piercings, such as a small nose ring, are very common today, are only done with parental permission, and allow a student to express their individuality.▪        Only natural hair color and ‘traditional' hairstyles are permitted. As above with non-ear piercings, a student (with their parent's permission) should be allowed to express their individuality with their own hair. Likewise, who makes the judgment on what is ‘traditional'?·        Limited authentic education for certain topics (censorship?)I think we can all acknowledge that we live in a challenging time in terms of certain issues and if and how they should be taught or discussed within our schools – especially public schools. However, the policies of LCS raise the question of whether students will even be allowed to discuss certain topics. If topics are not addressed openly, honestly, and unbiasedly, students are therefore in an environment of censorship and limited exposure to real-world situations. Examples include:o   Controversial Topics. The LCS policy on Controversial Topics is a perfect example of the above. Controversial issues are defined as contemporary problems, subjects, or questions of a political or social nature where there are differences of opinion and passions run high. Controversial issues will only be explored when arising from some part of the curriculum (grades 6-12). When these subjects come up, teachers will present an impartial view of both sides without proselytizing. The theory of evolution in relation to human origins will not be taught at this time. In the high school biology class the evolutionary theories of human development will be canvassed. The teaching of evolution is not intended to exclude other theories of human origins and development, such as Creation. They push students out who don't fit their exact want.”o   One 5-star review raises red flags of a different sort: “If you want a private education for your kids without having to pay for it, this is your school.”Thank you for taking the time to read through these concerns. S&P Futures after being positive all morning, futures have just gone negative. There are a host of companies scheduled to release their earnings this morning including NTRS, NDAQ, BKR, BIIB, and ABT. After the bell today we will be hearing from SLG, AA, UAL, EFX, LVS, DFS, CSX, CCI, and TSLA. After the opening bell this morning we have economic reports on Existing Home Sales and the official EIA stockpiles report. News reports indicate that mortgage demand has dropped to a 22 year low.

1. This is a big week for markets. Wednesday will be the release of the CPI report. This last time this report came out it led to new 52-week lows for markets. Earnings season also begins this week with $JPM $MS  & $TSM scheduled to report later this week. It's also options ex for July on Friday. As you know, there will be a lot of institutional game playing all week into the expiration. Traders should watch for rumors, ridiculous upgrades and downgrades and often off the wall news.2. Casinos in Macau have been shut down once again in response to a coronavirus outbreak. Obviously, the leading casino stocks such as WYNN, LVS and MGM are trading lower, but there is also a lot of weakness in many of the leading Chinese ADRs. This is a global economy to some extent and a closure can affect other parts of the world these days. 3. Gold is a little soft today, but nothing terrible. It is a bit oversold, butthe chart is weak. The strength in the US Dollar Index (DXY) has certainly but pressure on gold lately. Today the DXY is making a new multi year high.4. Bitcoin is trading lower by 2.2%. It is still holding the psychological 20,000 level. So there is some chance of minor bounces, but remember the bigger picture trend is down and my target if for a move below 14,000.

S&P Futures are showing strong gains this morning suggesting that the major equity indexes could regain some ground after the steep, tech-led selloff in the previous session. Markets in Asia rallied due to a stimulus announcement in China. Markets continued to digest recent earnings reports and weighed concerns about inflation. This afternoon we will have results from FB, QCOM, AMGN, PYPL, F, LVS, PINS, HTZ, and others. In commodities action, there is a price spike in natural gas prices as Russia halted the flow to Poland and Bulgaria as Russia is demanding payment in rubles rather than in dollars or euros.

Hada: Light verbs, heavy lifting Today's word: 하다 Meaning: to do But it can also be used in a lot of other ways, and I kind of think of it as the verb that does everything Origins: Native Korean word, from middle korean h(backward c)da https://www.ipachart.com/ Linguistic element: Korean verb basics and light verbs The basics on Korean verbs SOV word order (generally) - the verb MUST come last. Hada - infinitive, like “to do” in English. Some debate over whether the ha- or the hada- version is the “basic” version of a verb in Korean, it seems. More common forms: Haeyo, hamnida, haesseoyo, heaesseumnida Light verbs: This verb is also what's called a light verb, a verb that has little meaning of its own and works with another word, usually an adjective, as a sort of complete lexical unit. “The term light verb was coined by Jesperson (1965) to signify a group of verbs that are distinguished from lexical verbsverbs6 or auxiliaries in English e.g., take in take a walk , give in give a groan , and make in make an offer )).” (Bak Jaehee 2011) Examples in English: Have, as in “have a party” Take, as in “take a break” And “do” as in “do your homework” In Korean, 하다 is also like this and in fact you can use it to in some of the same constructions, for example, 학생이 숙제를 했어요 , The student did homework. But it's a lot more useful in Korean than in English and can be used in a lot more ways, that might seem even less related to “doing” something to an English speaker at least. For example, you can also use it to make the vast majority of nouns into verbs or even an adjective - compared with English, there's sort of a thin line between verbs and adjectives in Korean, and in many cases they work the same way. In particularly, Sino-Korean words, which make up 60-65% of the lexicon, can become verbs (or adjectives) this way: Adjectives: 소중하다, to be precious or dear; 대단하다, to be amazing or awesome Verbs: 수용하다, to swim; 결혼하다, to marry/get married But also words from English or other languages that make up that “5%” that's not Sino-Korean: 샤워하다, to take a shower; 헌팅하다, to go out and try to pick up And finally even though a lot of verbs without hada are Native Korean verbs - possibly all of them - you can use it with Native Korean nouns to make other verbs: 밥하다 - to eat rice You can't just put any type of verb, has to be generally activity or state (feature: eventuality) “The LVs are limited to primitive predicates such as do, become, etc.” Bak Sociocultural contexts/related words: Another light verb in Korean is 되다, which means to become.
