It's an extra special show for a couple reasons - there is a lot of Leaf news to talk about and it's also the 4th anniversary of our show! In this episode, we'll be reflecting on the incredible milestones we've achieved "Talkin' Leafs" with all of you! We wouldn't be here if it weren't for our listeners, so what better way to kick off this show than by paying tribute to you! Its been 4 incredible years, and we look forward to many more talkin' about our favourite team! Packing up all the patio furniture sadly signals the end of summer, but it also brings excitement and anticipation because it means the NHL season is just around the corner! Brad Treliving, while having a fairly quiet summer, managed to do a couple of tidy pieces of business in August, signing Auston Matthews, and extending Sheldon Keefe. We'll discuss these two deals and how they affect the bigger picture for the team leading into training camp. In our second segment, we dust off the Ladies Talkin' Leafs Highlight Reel and roll our top 4 show milestones over the past season. A Special shout out to our families for their input. They've been with us every step of the way, so who better to consult than the people who have encouraged us from day one! Then, in our Third Period segment, we sadly must say goodbye to two special players that we lost in August. We pay tribute to Rodion Amirov and Bob Baun, and then wrap up the show getting you set for the Leafs upcoming season with a review of the schedule. Life is filled with transitions. And while summer turns to fall, for Leaf fans its a renewed chance to witness greatness. Only a few weeks to go, and we'll have you covered for it all. We'll be back to set the stage September 27th, as we kick of Season 5! Welcome to an exciting episode of the Rink Rat Report podcast! In this episode we take a look at the top players from the Leafs and around the NHL to have a bounce back season. To define what a bounce back candidate would look like: it's a player that has struggled this past season (or additional seasons before) relative to their expectation or previous production. A good example of a player that had a big bounce back year in the 2022/23 season would be Jamie Benn. From the 2010/11 season to the 2017/18 season Jamie Benn averaged 0.95 points per game. However, from the 2018/19 season to the 2021/22 season Benn's production faltered and he was only averaging 0.62 points per game, including just 46 points in 82 games in 2021/22. Using statistics and gut checks we identified players on the Leafs as well as around the league who would be likely to get back to their original point production or even exceed this! In this episode we also remember both Rodion Amirov and Bob Baun. Rodion Amirov passed away at just the age of 21 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour 2 years prior. He was selected 15th overall by the Leafs in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Bob Baun passed away at the age of 86. Baun played 739 games with the Maple Leafs and helped lead them to 4 Stanley Cups. He is most famous for scoring the Game 6 Overtime winning goal during the 1964 Stanley Cup finals. Pavel 'Frankie" Francouz stepped in this season probably more than he anticipated and did one hell of a job. The playoffs did not go as planned for him, but the season he had cannot be forgotten. We hand out his grade for the season and he is the first one thus far to receive the grade bestowed upon him. We also take a look at four more draft prospects, two that most likely won't be available when the Avs pick (Jack Quinn, Rodion Amirov) and two that most likely will be (Dylan Holloway, Hendrix Lapperie), but should they take them? Tune in and subscribe!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Go to builtbar.com and use promo code “LOCKEDON,” and you'll get $10 off your first order.
