From its early reputation as mothers' ruin to its prime spot in upscale cocktail bars, we tell the story of the juniper-infused spirit. And as the gin craze in the US and the UK shows no sign of slowing, we ask where the next global hotspots will be. Dr Angela McShane of Warwick University tells Elizabeth Hotson how and why gin drinking became popular in the UK and Sandie Van Doorne, from Lucas Bols - which claims to be the oldest distillery brand in the world - explains how the Dutch spirit, genever, fits into the story. Sean Harrison of Plymouth Gin explains how the company is taking on the new contenders in the market and we hear from up-and-coming brands; Toby Whittaker from Whittakers Gin and Temi Shogelola of Black Crowned Gin. We all know that grief hits us in different ways. Learning how to manage our own grief is one thing, but what about when you are supporting a partner or loved one through their grief? How does that look? Is there a such thing as too much support or not enough? In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sean & Rylan Harrison, to discuss the affects of grief and how it could be so deep, we may not initially even recognize it as such and therefore find it difficult to ask for the support we truly need during that traumatic time. Additionally, we discuss:- Alternative Coping Mechanisms to Therapy- Steps to Heal - Allowing Others to Support You- Comfortability Communicating Your Needs to Others- Challenges for Men Communicating their Needs- Holistic Living- Challenges with Avoiding Physical/Mental Illness- Warning Signs to Look Out for When Dealing With and/or Supporting Through GriefKey Takeaways/Quotes"There's no real way around grief. The Terror Of Tiny Town". Escuchar audio
Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Sean HarrisonSean was born in Nashville and raised mostly in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he grew up in the literary home of the late novelist/screenwriter William Harrison, probably best known for the movie Rollerball. The father taught creative writing at the University of Arkansas, which put the son in frequent company of numerous talented writing students and visiting writers. It also put him in touch with a lively college campus during the turbulence and cultural renaissance of the late 1960s. Sean lived some years in Europe, then Texas, with a lot of traveling and finally back home to Fayetteville. “I have busked in London, Bath, Paris, Florence and Venice, southern Spain and other parts of Europe, New York City, Dallas/Ft. Worth,” Sean said. “It’s only looking back that I can appreciate where I’ve been. I don’t regret anything – even my biggest mistakes.”Sean Harrison,Big_DecisionsSean Harrison,Wake_Up_Deadmakingascene,Sean HarrisonSean Harrison,Breathe_Out_Her_NameSean Harrison,Water_Tower
Did I say I’m an artist? Well sometimes as an artist one must find work to help “supplement” ones income. For me that has been art handling and museum exhibition work. Some people don’t even know this kind of work exists. However, now that museums and galleries are closed for the foreseeable future and as I’m a little too young for retirement, my focus has been renewed into networking. Hence this podcast. Once I began calling up old friends from the field it occurred to me to reach out to a known source of information and networking opportunities. PACCIN.(Preparation,Art handling,& Collections Care Information Network). To my delight they got back to me and I was connected with their secretary to the board, Sean Harrison. Sean generously gave an hour of his time to explain to me the history and objectives of the organization, and more.http://www.paccin.org/content.php?s=4ab366cdea2949ca9ecb3d0d04903aa7PACCIN_Org@PACCIN.orghttps://www.jumblebee.co.uk/arttechnicianemergencyfundhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbWS9tXKHo0fAVrtOHjktJghttps://www.facebook.com/PACCIN.org/

In November 2018 news broke via YouTube that He Jiankui, then a professor at Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, China had created the world’s first gene-edited babies from two embryos. The edited gene was CCR5 delta 32 - a gene that conferred protection against HIV. Alongside the public, most of the scientific community were horrified. There was a spate of correspondence, not just on the ethics, but also on the science. One prominent paper was by Rasmus Nielsen and Xinzhu Wei’s of the University of California, Berkeley. They published a study in June 2019 in Nature Medicine that found an increased mortality rate in people with an HIV-preventing gene variant. It was another stick used to beat Jiankiu – had he put a gene in these babies that was not just not helpful, but actually harmful? However it now turns out that the study by Nielsen and Wei has a major flaw. In a series of tweets, Nielsen was notified of an error in the UK Biobank data and his analysis. Sean Harrison at the University of Bristol tried and failed to replicate the result using the UK Biobank data. He posted his findings on Twitter and communicated with Nielsen and Wei who have now requested a retraction. UCL's Helen O'Neill is intimately acquainted with the story and she chats to Adam Rutherford about the role of social media in the scientific process of this saga. The Herculaneum Library is perhaps the most remarkable collection of texts from the Roman era. Discovered two centuries ago in the villa of Julius Caesar’s father in law, many of the papyrus scrolls bear the writings of the house philosopher, Philodemus. Others are thought to be the works of the philosophers and poets he admired. However, the big drawback is that the villa was buried in the eruption that engulfed Pompeii, and the heat from the volcanic ash turned them all to charcoal. To make life even more difficult, the ink the scribes used was also made of carbon – think black on black. However, now a team from the University of Kentucky are hoping to decipher the texts using X-rays, and have just scanned two complete scrolls, and some fragments at the Diamond Synchrotron in near Oxford. When renowned author Bill Bryson decided to apply his unique eye for anecdote and trivia to the human body he thought he's start at the head and work down. But as he reveals to Adam, it's a lot more complicated and interconnected than that. His book "The Body - A Guide for Occupants" is an indispensable guide to the inner workings of ourselves. Let's talk about this on Amp Life Talk Radio.~ Are you an amputee in a film, commercial, or TV? ~ MediaAbility a talent agency for those affected by limb loss, find great people for entertainment projects ~ Perceptions of amputees then and now~ What has changed?~ How should we view these types of commercials and movies? As an amputee and an advocate for the amputees, I find this an interesting topic to discuss so that amputees have a voice in these matters because I think sometimes the few (most popular) are considered and all amputees are included. I am sure there are a lot of feelings and opinions on this subject.Hosted by Sean Harrison of Amp Life Talk RadioFollow Amp Life Talk Radio so you'll NEVER miss an episode at amp-life.com, also you can listen on iHeartRadio and iTunes @ Amp-Life Talk Radio
