As you'd imagine, Ferrari just keeps making its cars better. Ferrari's latest supercar, the SF90 Stradale, honors 90 years of Ferrari's racing works: Scuderia Ferrari. In case you're still not up to speed, the name is exactly that, the SF90 is literally a celebration of 90 years of Scuderia Ferrari. Ferrari could have just slapped some extra badging on the F8 Tributo and called it a day, but the team responsible for Ferrari's road cars decided to celebrate the company's racing pedigree with one of its best road cars to date. Responsible for moving the SF90 is a hybrid drivetrain featuring two motors at the front axle, an electric motor between the engine and transmission and a turbocharged V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment. The combined output? Well, in Italy: 1,000 CV. That number is slightly less impressive when you convert it to SAE horsepower, roughly 986 hp. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek's West Coast Editor Mark Vaughn spends an afternoon flogging the 2022 Ferrari SF90 through the hills of Malibu, the location of some of California's best canyon roads. Before letting you tag along while he reviews the latest Ferrari, he walks you around the car and highlights its styling and its features, then fires up the hybrid powertrain to show you the different sounds that happen during start up. Between these segments, Vaughn expands on his thoughts with host Wesley Wren. The pair discuss what this Ferrari is like to drive, how much it costs (hint: a lot) and whether Ferrari will limit its production like the company's LaFerrari. Closing the show, the Vaughn explains what makes this Ferrari special.

It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. LAMBORGHINI'S PLAN FOR PLUG INS AND EVS"Lamborghini will introduce plug-in hybrid powertrains to all three of its current model lines within the next three years, before launching its first battery-electric vehicle by the end of the decade." reports Autocar: " the firm is likely to use a system similar to that seen on Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale, with an internal combustion engine powering the rear axle, an electric motor powering the front axle and torque vectoring used to balance the output. [CEO Stephan] Winkelmann added that the firm weas working to negate the potential performance disadvantages of PHEV technology. "Batteries also add weight, the alleged enemy of performance," he said. "At Lamborghini, however, we are used to balancing out weight additions. An increase in performance often leads to the addition of weight in the first step. Our cars excel in power-to-weight ratio, so we have a very good starting point for hybridisation." "Lamborghini has announced it is set to fully electrify its range, first with an all-plug-in-hybrid lineup, and then with the planned launch of a fourth model that will be a pure EV." reports Car & Driver: "The Direzione Cor Tauri plan—named after a star in the Taurus constellation—was unveiled by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann at an event in Italy this morning. The plan means that the last Lamborghini road car to be powered exclusively with a combustion engine will be made before the end of 2024. The Urus will also gain a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and although we haven’t been given further details we presume it will be a version of the V8 powertrain that Porsche uses in the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid. But beyond that, Lamborghini is planning for a fourth model which will become the brand’s first EV." But Top Gear asks: "Question is, why wait so long? Lamborghini already has the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT’s J1 EV platform at its disposal, and its rivals are pushing ahead - Ferrari recently confirmed its first EV will be with us by 2025. Well, Winkelmann wants to wait until there’s more “maturity and acceptance” of EVs, in terms of battery technology and the charging infrastructure. “We don’t need to be a fire for this technology, we need to be there when it’s really important,” he says." https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a36441763/lamborghini-lineup-hybrid-electric-future/ https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/official-lamborghinis-first-ev-will-be-four-seat-two-door-gt https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/lamborghini-readies-phev-versions-urus-huracan-and-aventador DUCATI PLOTS THEIR ELECTRIC FUTUREAnd whilst we're talking about VW brands which have been speculated about a lot recently, but now confirmed as staying firmly within the Group: "Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali says Ducati is looking closely at how the advancement in electric technologies evolves before making a commitment to its first EV in the motorcycle market." says visordown.com: "While the electric motorcycle market remains relatively niche beyond low-powered urban scooters, it is nonetheless a fast growing segment poised to accelerate further with the advent of imminent models from Husqvarna and Kawasaki. However, for many there will be no greater litmus test for the genre than when the industry’s most evocative volume firm throws its hat into the ring" https://www.visordown.com/news/industry/time-has-come-even-ducati-plot-electric-future FORD F-150 LIGHTNING IS ‘THE BIG FISH' IN EV ERA"Despite its sales dominance, Ford will enter the electric pickup space with plenty of challenges. For starters, the F-150 Lightning won't be the first full-size battery-powered pickup on the market. By the time the first Lightnings reach dealerships in the spring of 2022, the Rivian R1T, Lordstown Endurance, GMC Hummer EV and Tesla Cybertruck could all be on sale." writes Automotive News: "And despite the company's hopes that buyers will be wowed by the Lightning's performance capabilities, Ford is likely to face a harder time converting longtime truck owners than startups Rivian and Lordstown may with a younger, tech-focused customer base." Can they do it? Find out on Thursdays podcast after the F-150 reveal. HOW EVS COULD TRANSFORM THE STREETS OF AFRICA"In February, Kenya-based ARC Ride launched electric two- and three-wheelers for Uber Eats deliveries in Nairobi, a city of 4.4 million. While the company currently has 35 vehicles operating, Chief Executive Joseph Hurst-Croft, a former environmental activist in Nigeria, says he expects the fleet to grow to 300 by August. " says Wall Street Journal: "Proponents of electric vehicles and renewable energy see motorcycles as the fastest way to promote inexpensive, clean-energy transportation in Africa, where roads are often traffic-clogged and potholed." https://www.wsj.com/articles/ev-electric-vehicle-africa-11620854230 QUANTUMSCAPE & VOLKSWAGEN TO SELECT LOCATION FOR BATTERY PILOT-LINEQuantumScape Corporation, (NYSE: QS, or “QuantumScape”) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. to select the location of their joint-venture solid-state battery pilot-line facility by the end of 2021. The companies currently contemplate Salzgitter, Germany for the location. The pilot-line facility, QS-1, will initially be a 1-gigawatt hour (GWh) battery cell commercial production plant for electric vehicle batteries. QuantumScape and Volkswagen intend to expand production capacity by a further 20 GWh at the same location.QS-1 will follow QS-0, QuantumScape’s planned pre-pilot line. In its Q1 Shareholder Letter, QuantumScape highlighted progress on that front as well, securing a facility in San Jose to house the QS-0 line. To fulfill the strong inbound interest in its technology, the company also recently announced it was doubling the initial QS-0 capacity to over 200,000 cells annually, enough for hundreds of test vehicles each year. ELECTRIC RENAULT 4EVER IS REVEALED THANKS TO PATENT IMAGES"Since Renault said it would make an electric vehicle based on the Renault 4, fans of the classic car are trying to imagine what it will look like. Considering the French carmaker already did a good job with the Renault 5, the new concept was not supposed to disappoint. Thanks to patent images that Autovisie discovered, we just have to ask them what they think." according to InsideEVs: " the new Renault 4 looks like a crossover thanks to significant ground clearance. The original car was also tall, even if it was compact. The high suspension made it cope well with country roads and lousy asphalt. The new one will possibly retain that capability, even if it a much heavier machine due to the large battery pack it has to carry." https://insideevs.com/news/508151/electric-renault-4ever-patent-images STELLANTIS AND FOXCONN CREATE MOBILE DRIVE JOINT VENTURE"Stellantis has partnered with Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn to form Mobile Drive, a 50:50 joint venture which will see the two firms collaborate on infotainment and in-vehicle connectivity offerings" says Autocar: "Foxconn will supply infotainment systems to Stellantis as part of the deal, but will also offer its technical platforms for wider use by other automotive manufacturers. Mobile Drive will bid to supply infotainment systems and related hardware to any "interested" brands" https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry-news-technology/stellantis-and-foxconn-partner-form-mobile-drive-software-arm CUPRA BORN REVEALED IN VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH CHIEF DESIGNER"Spanish performance brand Cupra has confirmed it will unveil its first electric vehicle, the Cupra Born, on 25 May. The car make its on the day in an entirely digital presentation at 11am, but Cupra has already all but unveiled its Volkswagen ID.3 rival in a series of revealing pre-reveal teasers." reports AutoExpress: "It should also line-up with the expectations set out late last year, when the El-Born was previewed wearing Cupra badges. The production-ready Born EV will also feature a range of sporty styling cues, such a lowered ride-height, 20-inch alloy wheels, aggressive front and rear bumpers, finned side skirts and a pair of figure-hugging bucket seats.". 77kWh/82kWh battery, 310 miles of range. https://insideevs.com/news/508060/cupra-born-design-video-interview/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles TESLA MODEL Y FROM GIGA TEXAS WILL LAUNCH WITH 4680 CELLS"Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the Model Y produced from Gigafactory Texas would be launching with 4680 battery cells. The update was related by Musk in a recent interaction on Twitter. " says Teslarati: "Since Battery Day last year, Tesla has been quite conservative with its estimates about when its custom battery cells would be rolled out. This was highlighted in the Q1 2021 earnings call when Elon Musk remarked that Tesla was about 12-18 months away from the volume production of its 4680 cells. " https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-y-texas-4680-batteries-elon-musk/ ELON MUSK LOSES 9BN IN A YEAR"Elon Musk on Monday, slipped from his spot as the world’s second-richest person in Bloomberg Billionaires Index after 24% of his fortune fell down. Audi RS e-tron GT Prototype Impresses Ferrari remains shy on electric cars Bentley To Become An EV-Only Brand UK EV sales up 195% Germany marks October sales records for EVs Northvolt commissions first public energy storage system Tesla launches new winter tyres and wheels Updated: BMW's Change Of EV Philosophy Show #924 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily. AUDI RS E-TRON GT PROTOTYPE IMPRESSES "Audi Sport, the division responsible for the automaker’s RS-badged models, has so far not done an electric vehicle. But it is currently putting the finishing touches on its first ever, an RS version of the upcoming Audi e-tron GT electric sedan, and it’s let journalists and influencers have a go in it." says InsideEVs: "Those who have had the chance to try it out, including Carwow’s Mat Watson and Misha Charoudin, were really impressed by the performance and the looks of the vehicle. They not only got to drive the vehicle in a controlled traffic-free environment, but they were also allowed to take the prototypes out on the road. Mat measured its performance with specialist timing gear - he recorded the RS e-tron GT as being able to sprint to sixty in 2.88 seconds and it completed the quarter-mile in 10.94 seconds at almost 130 mph (210 km/h)." The excellent evo.co.uk says: "Audi’s take on the Taycan is more relaxed than its Porsche counterpart, but will still make you second-guess that RS7 order" but doesn that imply to you like this is an Audi-badged Taycan? It's definitely not. It may share the J1 Performance PLatform but it's not a rebadged Porsche, everything you see (and a lot you can't see) is all designed by the Audi engineers. So you'll see similarities but correlation does not imply causation. They write: "The RS e-tron GT sits roughly on par with the non-S Taycan Turbo in terms of output. Its front-axle motor develops 175kW (235bhp) through a single-speed gearbox, and the rear 335kW (449bhp) through a two-speed unit and locking diff, for a combined 510kW (684bhp) – 10kW (13bhp) greater than the Taycan Turbo’s peak output. Like other recent Audi Sport models, the RS e-tron GT has a suite of features to keep its mass under control, from four-wheel steering to new three-chamber adaptive air suspension, the latter dropping the car 22mm for aerodynamics at high speed, 10mm in sporty driving, or raising it 20mm at low speeds for extra clearance." CAR mag says: "Pricing is TBC, but expect a £120,000 ballpark – a circa £20k premium over the non-RS e-Tron GT. Just like the Taycan, there’s a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, and a focus on coasting rather than recuperation to extend battery range. However, the Audi apparently uses its front e-motor a little more for reasons of efficiency, but can switch so rapidly to the rear (5x faster than mechanical all-wheel drive) that the effect on dynamic driving should be minimal. Expect more than 248 miles on the WLTP cycle. Charge times will be equivalent to the Taycan, with a maximum DC charging capacity of 270kW, for a theoretical 62 miles of range in 5 minutes. One engineer said the Porsche was ‘more about every last bit of lap time’, hence Dynamic mode is softer than a Taycan’s Sport, and there’s no Sport Plus equivalent." "Battery-pack capacity is one spec that makes no match with the Taycan. While the Porsche has a 79.2-kwh Performance Battery or a 93.4-kwh Performance Battery Plus, the E-Tron GT has an 83.7-kwh (net) battery with 396 pouch cells split into 33 modules. " according to Green CAr Reports: "The GT has two coolant circuits running at different temperature levels—a cooler one for the battery pack and a warmer one for the motors and power electronics. There are also cooling and heating circuits for the interior. Between the four circuits, a series of valves allow the systems to be flexibly interconnected, to function as a heat pump for the interior. The potential of the cooling systems is most used during high-performance driving, or during the highest-power DC fast charging" https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/the-moment-of-truthformula-e-driver-lucas-di-grassi-tests-production-based-rs-e-tron-gt-13336 https://insideevs.com/reviews/452708/audi-rs-e-tron-gt-driven-tested/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles https://www.evo.co.uk/audi/203235/audi-rs-e-tron-gt-prototype-review-all-electric-taycan-turbo-rival-driven https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/audi/etron-gt/ https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1130199_2022-audi-e-tron-gt-electric-car-details-battery-charging-performance FERRARI REMAINS SHY ON ELECTRIC CARS "According to CEO Louis Camilleri, he doesn't believe the Italian brand will ever transition to a totally electric lineup. In fact, he doesn't even think the marque will reach an EV spread of 50%, at least in his lifetime, according to remarks he made during an investor call. Ferrari declined to comment further." says CNET.com: "Ferrari rolled out its first plug-in hybrid last year in the SF90 Stradale and the company thinks it will have an electric car ready after 2025. But, the it's not in a rush to go totally electric. " https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ferrari-electric-cars-ceo/#ftag=CAD-09-10aai5b BENTLEY TO BECOME AN EV-ONLY BRAND "Bentley has used their Beyond 100 event to reveal their “bold ambition to be a leader of sustainable luxury mobility.” Under the plan, Bentley will exclusively offer plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles by 2026. The plug-in hybrids will eventually be dropped and the automaker will become an EV-only brand by 2030." reports CarScoops: "This is a huge change as Bentley is the “world’s largest producer of 12-cylinder petrol engines” and they’ll be completely phased out in less than a decade." https://www.carscoops.com/2020/11/bentley-to-become-an-ev-only-brand-petrol-engines-to-be-phased-out-by-2030/ UK EV SALES UP 195% battery electric and plug-in hybrid car uptake grew substantially to account for more than one in 10 registrations as new models continue to increase consumer choice. Demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by 195.2%, while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were up 148.7% compared with October last year. 9,335 BEV in Oct and 76k YTD GERMANY MARKS OCTOBER SALES RECORDS FOR EVS "According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), exactly 23,158 electric cars were newly registered in Germany in October, marking a new record. Compared to the same month last year, this segment recorded an increase of no less than 365.1 per cent." reports electrive: "In terms of market share, all-electric passenger cars in Germany reached 8.4 per cent in October – in September the figure was 8 per cent." https://www.electrive.com/2020/11/04/germany-marks-october-sales-records-for-evs/ NORTHVOLT COMMISSIONS FIRST PUBLIC ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM Northvolt has commissioned its first public energy storage system at an electric vehicle charging station in Västerås, Sweden. The battery system is the first that local energy provider Mälarenergi has deployed alongside EV charging infrastructure. The system serves to reduce peaks in electricity demand of the charging station by more than 80%, thereby lessening the demands of electric vehicle charging on the electricity network. Northvolt has delivered a lithium-ion battery system based around its modular battery system, Voltrack, which provides power output up to 220 kW and a usable energy capacity of 320 kWh. The battery system functions as a buffer between the electricity grid and EV charging station to enable peak shaving and load levelling. Peak shaving in this way helps utilities to meet demand without relying on peaking generators which are increasingly recognized as a costly and inefficient way to compensate for new demands of EV charging. https://northvolt.com/newsroom/Rocklunda-Nov2020 TESLA LAUNCHES NEW WINTER TYRES AND WHEELS "Tesla has launched its Model Y winter tire and wheel package just in time for the first snow and regulations in the north. In the Northeast, many jurisdictions require drivers to install winter tires on their vehicles before a certain deadline in order to improve road safety." according to electrek.co: " Now with the Model Y about to face its first winter, Tesla has released the “Model Y 19″ Gemini Wheel and Winter Tire Package. It comes with PIRELLI WINTER SOTTOZERO™ tires and costs $3,500 in the US and $4,700 in Canada; If your Model Y is sporting bigger than 19″ wheels with summer/all-season tires, we do recommend downgrading to 19″ for the winter, and that’s where Tesla’s wheel and tire package becomes a more attractive option." https://electrek.co/2020/11/04/tesla-model-y-winter-tire-wheel-package-launch/# UPDATED: BMW'S CHANGE OF EV PHILOSOPHY From Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW: " We delivered more than 116,000 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to customers in the first nine months – a new all-time high and a significant year-on-year increase of 20 percent. This trend became even clearer in October. The MINI Cooper SE has delighted around 13,000 customers since March – and our current order book is just as full. The BMW iX3 will be arriving in showrooms in the next few days. In 2021, the BMW i4 will come out of Plant Munich, with an electric range of up to 600 km. Followed in 2021 by the iNEXT. The Board of Management took the series version for a test drive. I’m sure this car will surprise and delight a lot of people. We expect demand for fully-electric vehicles to continue increasing significantly from 2025 on. Exactly then – just at the right time – we will launch phase III of our transformation. Our new cluster architecture is geared towards electric drive trains. This area reports directly to me. It is organisationally connected to all divisions – from markets, finance, procurement, development and production, all the way to sales and marketing. This gives us greater leverage and makes us much faster – also in our cooperation with partners. The objective is for the new architecture to create an overall optimum. Our new plant in Hungary will play a key role in this, ramping up the new BEV-centric architecture from the middle of the decade." https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0319993EN/statement-oliver-zipse-chairman-of-the-board-of-management-of-bmw-ag-conference-call-interim-report-to-30-september-2020 You can listen to all 923 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically. Show #680 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 28th January 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. Welcome to a new PATREON EXECUTIVE PRODUCER STEPHEN PENN TOYOTA & LEXUS IN TROUBLE FOR MISLEADING ADS "Toyota and Lexus repeatedly advertise their hybrid models as “self-charging”. Norway has now decided that enough is enough and banned misleading car commercials in the Scandinavian nation." says electrive: "The Norwegian Consumer Protection Agency officially banned these commercials, deeming it misleading to say “the hybrid battery is free of charge since the electricity produced by the car has a consumption of gasoline as a necessary condition”. "Self-charging is another way to say gas-electric hybrid powertrain, and it doesn't mean Toyota has developed some kind of perpetual-motion machine, says Norway consumer agency. The country's independent Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet), a supervisory agency that "prevents and stops illegal marketing," said that the Lexus and Toyota ads are misleading and give the impression that the hybrid is somehow getting its power for free. " is the take from Car And Driver: "the country's Consumer Authority calling the ad a "pure lie."That's because just calling a hybrid "self-charging" doesn't change the underlying technology. "Self-charging" is just another way to say gas-electric hybrid powertrain, and it does not actually mean Toyota has developed something along the lines of a perpetual-motion machine. In a video ad posted by Lexus U.K., the company says twice in 30 seconds that the hybrid charges itself, claiming that not needing to plug in is "a small detail for those who see a bigger picture. The Consumer Authority made its determination on the misleading nature of the ads after receiving complaints about the phrase, including one from a Lexus buyer who said he is paying for the lie every time he fills up his tank. This is particularly rough in Norway, which is the per-capita world leader in electric vehicles. More than half of all new cars sold there in 2019 came with a plug." From Quartz: "It wouldn’t be the first time Toyota has found itself in trouble with the Norwegian authorities over this issue. In 2017, the government cited the company for misleading buyers by claiming its hybrid cars run in electric mode “up to 60% of the time.” In fact, officials found the actual electric driving time under real-world conditions was no more than about half." And finally from Motoring Research: "Complaints about adverts in magazines referenced the claim that the car could charge itself, without a cost to the driver. One of the ads translates in English to: “In hybrid form Lexus, the power (always costs) absolutely nothing”. The Norway decision contrasts with an earlier ruling by the UK’s ASA that Lexus self-charging hybrid ads are not misleading. The country’s marketing act prohibits false, misleading or unreasonable claims in advertisements, which aspects of the ‘self-charging’ claim fall under. Authorities concluded that Lexus’s ads could lead customers to believe that their car generates free electricity. It claims this marketing content could have influenced customers to buy the car under this false claim." About the ASA in the UK: "The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the self-regulatory organisation of the advertising industry in the United Kingdom. The ASA is a non-statutory organisation and so cannot interpret or enforce legislation. However, its code of advertising practice[1] broadly reflects legislation in many instances. The ASA is not funded by the British government, but by a levy on the advertising industry" https://www.electrive.com/2020/01/27/toyota-lexus-in-trouble-for-misleading-ads/ https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a30675773/norway-lexus-commercial-self-charging-hybrid/ https://qz.com/1791515/norway-tells-toyota-to-stop-calling-hybrid-cars-self-charging/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertising_Standards_Authority_(United_Kingdom) PORSCHE TAYCAN TURBO CRUSHES EPA RANGE RATING ON OUR 436-MILE DRIVE Tom at InsideEVs is a fan of the Porsche Taycan: "Pretty much every driving review of the Porsche Taycan, including our own, has been glowingly positive. It's been called everything from the best electric car today, to the best new Porsche you can buy. " he says on InsideEVs.com: "The Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S have a 93.4 kWh battery, of which 83.7 kWh is usable. Porsche basically holds back 10 kWh of the pack as a buffer, to restrict the depth of discharge, referred to as the DoD, which in turn will extend the life of the pack. When the EPA announced the range rating for the Taycan Turbo at 201 miles per charge and the Taycan Turbo S at 192 miles, it certainly was a disappointment. Even with the cold weather and rain, we averaged 2.96 miles per kWh over the 436-mile trip. If you multiply that consumption rate by the 83.7 usable capacity the Taycan Turbo has, you come up with 248-miles of range per charge." https://insideevs.com/reviews/395038/porsche-taycan-road-trip-240-mile-range/ FERRARI EV PLANS REVEALED IN PATENT DOCUMENTS "Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri said late last year not to expect an electric car before 2025, but that doesn't mean the engineers in Maranello aren't already developing the technology that will eventually go into one." says MotorAuthority.com: "A patent application filed by Ferrari with the European Patent Office was discovered recently by a member of a Porsche Taycan form and provides some insight into potential plans for Ferrari's first EV. One application is for the modular motor to be used at the front axle, suggesting that the unit could work with an internal-combustion engine at the rear axle in a future hybrid model. Ferrari has already gone down this route with the SF90 Stradale which features two of its three electric motors at the front axle.." https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1126905_ferrari-ev-plans-revealed-in-patent-documents EDF TO SUPPORT ROYAL MAIL ELECTRIFICATION WITH THREE-YEAR DEAL FOR EV CHARGERS "EDF has signed a deal with Royal Mail for the provision of electric vehicle (EV) chargers as the latter continues electrification commitments." reports Current News: "The three-year framework will see EDF provide charging points, associated maintenance and ancillary services such as signs, bollards and wheel stops.Chargers are to be installed on Royal Mail Group sites in the South East of England, with potential for this to increase as required." https://www.current-news.co.uk/news/edf-to-support-royal-mail-electrification-with-three-year-deal-for-ev-chargers AMAZON AND DHL AMONG MAJOR COMPANIES TO JOIN NEW EV ALLIANCE Sustainability non-profit organization Ceres has launched the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance to accelerate electric vehicle development. Amazon and DHL are among the major companies to have already joined the alliance in a bid to expand the electric vehicle market and improve the policy landscape. The Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance is expected to boost the electric vehicle market by signaling the breadth and scale of corporate demand for EVs. It will also provide a platform to coordinate support for policies that enable fleet electrification. ELECTRIC VEHICLE MOTORING THROUGH THE SALARY SACRIFICE SCHEME "Drivers could find themselves better off in the new financial year by taking on an electric car under the government’s salary sacrifice scheme." writes Regit.cars: "The legislation has been around since 2016, ensuring that ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs) were made as affordable as possible. With electric cars being as low emission as possible, the benefits to swapping some salary in return for a car are significant. Now renamed to Optional Remuneration Arrangements, the tax benefits have mostly been removed for petrol and diesel-powered cars, but remain in place for ULEVs. The net result is that a motorist could save as much as £300 per month by opting to go green. With insurance, breakdown cover and maintenance often included in the salary sacrifice schemes, the savings could be even greater throughout the lease of a new vehicle." https://www.regit.cars/car-news/electric-vehicle-motoring-through-the-salary-sacrifice-scheme_72676 NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week… If I could one something extra in 2020 with EV News Daily, what would it be? In this episode I talk about the new controversial SF90 Stradale and Roma. Are ferrari still all about their light weight connected driving experiences, with a heavy dose of racing pedigree! Or are they favoring technology and electrification in this new era of supercar innovation?

We're back for episode 101, with a new intro! This week, we start off by talking about hair cuts and fashion, of all things. Mitch then does a quick review on the Holden Astra VX, before transitioning into talking about Ferrari's new $1M-plus Supercar; the SF90 Stradale with 736Kw from a combination of a turbocharged V8 and 3 electric motors. We then briefly talk about Aston Martin and argue about naturally aspirated Vs. turbocharging. Matt then talks about Australian pricing for the Tesla Model 3 being announced, at $66,000. Joseph then talks about how you can pick up an Alfa-Romeo Quadrifoglio as a dealer-demo for $90,000 with only 4,00Km on the clock. Matt talks about the to-be Volkswagen Golf R Plus; an $80,000 300Kw 450Nm AWD pocket-rocket confirmed to be coming to Australia. Joseph talks about the new epic-looking Volvo S60 and V60 with a turbo-supercharged hybrid system developing 311Kw and 600+ Nm. Matt then talks about Jaguar killing off the XJ in July, and they will replace it in 2020 with an 420Kw and 700Nm EV. Joseph then trolls us with a $625,000 Ford Falcon XR6 advertised on CarSales. Then Matt goes on CarSales and asks us what the 5 most expensive cars currently for sale on CarSales. Mitch then talks about how the Lamborghini Urus, like the Kia Stinger, looks so much better in person than it does in photos. Matt then asks us what the bottom 5 cheapest cars are on CarSales. Then Mitch starts asking a question that Matt came up with on the way to the pod that he'd forgotten, until he remembers and asks the question himself. The question is in relation to servicing intervals, and why the intervals are measured on time and distance travelled and not litres of fuel used. This then turns into a bit of a classic Gears and Beers argument between Matt and Joseph. TESLA MODEL S REFRESH WITH MINIMALIST INTERIOR "CNBC reports the Model S refresh will be modeled after the Model 3 in many ways, with a new minimalist interior like the one that received a lot of attention on the smaller car, premium seats from the Long Range and Performance Model 3, and the new drive units from the Model 3, including different motors, inverter and gearbox." writes Jalopnik today: "CNBC also reports the car will get a battery capable of 400 miles of range, which would be an increase over the current max EPA estimated range of 370 miles for the Long Range S, and the updated model is “aiming” for a production start in September of this year." https://jalopnik.com/tesla-model-s-refresh-with-minimalist-interior-and-mode-1835094478 FERRARI TO ADAPT SF90 STRADALE’S HYBRID TECH FOR FUTURE MODELS "There’s a new Ferrari and it’s a hybrid. That shouldn't come as a surprise these days after the success and warm reception of the LaFerrari, the brand’s first-ever electrified production vehicle. The new SF90 Stradale is now effectively the most-powerful road-going Ferrari in history with its 986 horsepower (735 kilowatts) coming from a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This mill will be adapted for use in more future models of Ferrari as the brand is exploring new possibilities on the market." according to Anthony Karr for Motor1.com: "The SF90 Stradale’s propulsion system consists of a 4.0-liter V8 producing 769 hp (573 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters) of torque, which is supported by three lithium-ion powered electric motors. There’s one located on the rear axle, and two more up front for an additional 217 hp (162 kW). Power reaches all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission." https://www.motor1.com/news/352217/ferrari-adopt-hybrid-powertrain-models/ And Jeff Perez who also writes for Motor1 said: "But for drivers feeling especially efficient off the track, the SF90 offers a pure electric driving mode. With a range of 16 miles (25 kilometers), a maximum electric speed of 84 mph (135 kmh), and plug-in charging capability, the SF90 is perfectly content puttering around Maranello in complete silence as it is tearing up the circuit with its engine screeching toward redline." https://www.motor1.com/news/352073/ferrari-sf90-stradale-details-unveiled/ HYUNDAI INTRODUCES ELECTRIC DOUBLE-DECKER BUS Hyundai Motor unveiled an electric double-decker bus which is a first of its kind for Hyundai, and is part of the company’s effort to help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. The all-new electric double-decker bus is shown at the ‘Land, Infrastructure and Transport To develop the company’s first electric double-decker bus, Hyundai worked for 18 months on a project supported by the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, which began in 2017. As part of the company’s effort to increase efficiency and to reduce vehicle emissions, Hyundai equipped the all-new electric bus with a 384 kWh water-cooled high-efficiency polymer battery, with a maximum 300 km driving range on a single charge. A full charge can be completed in 72 minutes. TESLA TO ACCEPT ORDERS OF CHINA-BUILT MODEL 3 FROM MAY 31 "Tesla is about to receive orders of the China-built Model 3 cars from May 31, the U.S.-based EV maker said via its Chinese WeChat official account.
