Kota Closes $14.5M Series A to Build the Internet's Employee Benefits Infrastructure

Kota, the insurance benefits platform and API, has announced it has raised $14.5m in Series A funding bringing total funding to $22.9 million. The round was led by Eurazeo, along with existing investors EQT Ventures, Northzone, Frontline Ventures and new investors in 9Yards and Plug and Play. The investment will power Kota's mission to make employee benefits globally accessible and frictionless for employees - delivered through its intuitive platform and flexible API. Alongside their Series A, they are also announcing that they've obtained their Central Bank of Ireland Authorisation, making it one of the few technology platforms to be regulated . Kota is rebuilding employee benefits from the ground up. Millions miss out on essentials like pensions and healthcare - not because employers don't care, but because the system is broken. Legacy providers, PDFs, and manual processes make benefits inaccessible and unmanageable. Kota fixes this. Like Revolut did for banking, Kota delivers a modern, user-first experience for employee benefits. It integrates directly with insurers and pension providers, giving employees real-time access and control, and HR teams a single, reliable platform to manage everything. By combining their regulation, infrastructure, and user friendly platform and app, they make benefits effortless for HR & Finance, and engaging for employees. The funding will be used to expand the Kota team, increase the variety of insurance carrier partners in its products, and accelerate customer acquisition. Luke Mackey Founder and CEO said "Employee benefits, which can make up 25% of total compensation, are systematically undervalued and expensive. I experienced this as a founder and a GM -- managing benefits in email, between brokers and insurance companies, completely disconnected and alien from anything else in the business. It's entirely out of date. Ultimately, no one on the team connected or engaged with them, no matter how much we invested. It's not surprising. Insurance benefits are delivered in clunky portals or in PDFs, which is so un engaging compared to the financial experiences employees are used to.Kota integrates directly with insurance companies so we can control that experience and make it easy to roll out and run benefits, no matter who you are or where your team is. This means that employees can quickly understand, enrol, access coverage, retirement plans, or other benefits, and actually value them." Elise Stern from Eurazeo said "Kota really stood out to us. With a tech-first approach, they've built a robust technical and financial infrastructure: deep integrations with insurers across dozens of countries, visibility across the benefits stack, and a seamless API that allows partners - from HRIS to payroll - to embed benefits natively." Since launching in 2023, Kota has helped hundreds of small and medium sized companies seamlessly access, easily manage, along with tens of thousands of employees understand and value their cover. Kota integrates with and offers some of Europe's leading insurance providers, like Vitality in the UK, ONVZ in the Netherlands, Sanitas in Spain, Irish Life Health in Ireland, Allianz Global Care internationally, and many more. Kota powers benefits for Remote.com, and has become the benefits platform of choice for leading scale-ups across Europe such as Zoe Health, Poolside, Carwow, Tines, &Open and Protex AI. Last year, they launched Kota Embed, their embedded insurance offering for HR platforms to make insurance benefits available to their customers without leaving their HRIS or Payroll tool, with customers like Remote, Helios and insurance companies like Irish Life Health as customers. Historically employee benefits have lived offline outside the stack that HR and employees have come accustomed to and are difficult to manage and understand. Employee benefits, while growing into a $70bn market, are still completely unfit for lean, forward-thinking start-ups and scale-ups - parti...

Discover why personal brands are thriving while business brands struggle to keep up in today's fast-paced digital landscape. Learn the secrets to building a successful brand that resonates with your audience and allows you to pivot seamlessly. KEY TAKEAWAYS Personal brands outperform business brands in terms of followers, leads, income, and status in your space. Attaching a personal brand to a business can lead to massive success, as seen with examples like Elon Musk, Stephen Bartlett, and Hagley watches. Business brands need a distinct personality to succeed, using comedy, memes, and emotional storytelling to engage their audience. Personal brands allow flexibility and the ability to pivot to different niches while maintaining an engaged audience. Business brands worked well in the past, but new successful brands in recent years often have a strong personal brand attachment. High-ticket items are more likely to be purchased when associated with a personal brand, especially for services like training courses, agencies, and consultancies. Car influencers like CarWow and Doug DeMiro have more impact on consumer decisions than traditional car company advertising. Building a personal brand is crucial for securing sponsors, selling products, and establishing yourself as a leader in your industry. BEST MOMENTS "Business brands are dead. Nobody wants to buy from a nameless corporate entity." "People buy into you. Your story, your message. And that is so powerful." "If you're going to do a business brand, make it a business brand with a personality that's distinct and unique." "Personal brand will always outperform business brand." "Can you name a luxury brand that has become massive in the last five years that doesn't have a big personal brand attachment?" Disruptions to the used car market over the past few years have changed the automotive landscape permanently. Not only were fewer new cars sold during the pandemic, but the addition of electric vehicles and a shift to agency agreements by OEMs has necessitated a new approach to valuations, stock acquisition strategies and sales operations. In our next Auto Retail Live webinar we'll examine these influences on the used car market and provide the insight needed to adapt your operations to ensure ongoing success. We'll have Robert Forrester, CEO of Vertu, Rupert Pontin from AutoAPI and John Veichmanis, CEO of Carwow, all available online to discuss these topics, answer your questions and help you get ready for 2024. We'll unpack the intricacies of new car supply and its ripple effect on the used car market. Our experts will help you plan for the influx of March plate-change trade-ins and discuss the impact agency agreements will have on used car retailing. The focus for this webinar will be to prepare retailers for the first quarter of 2024 up to and including the March plate-change and the increase in part-exchanges. Topics and questions for discussion include: • Market overview – where are we now (including economic factors) • Outlook for Q1 valuations (March plate change) • Influence of agency on used cars and trade-ins • New car supply pressure on used • Impact of rising EV mix and consumer demand • Consumer behaviour when changing cars

Over the last two decades, over 1,000 start-ups have raised media for growth funding including Zalando, AboutYou, Carwow, Pinterest, and Glovo. Such investments play an important role in revenue diversification for media broadcasters, whilst start-ups benefit from customer growth, increased brand awareness, and guidance from media groups, all without having to spend cash. Diana Florescu, CEO of mediaforgrowth, a global network of media for growth funds, speaks with Andrew Wrobel about how start-ups can benefit from media for growth investment. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 2nd January. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. THE TOP ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN WORLD DURING RECORD SALES MONTH "Global plugin vehicle registrations were up 72% in November 2021 compared to November 2020. There were 721,000 registrations (or 11.5% share of the overall auto market), establishing a new global record for PEV sales. " Fully electric vehicles (BEVs) represented 72% of plugin registrations in November, above the year-to-date tally (69%). In total, there were some 518,000 registrations of BEVs, a new record, or 8.3% share of the overall auto market. Looking at registrations by OEM, Tesla is leading with 14% share, but it should gain one percentage point in December, ending the year with 15% share. That would be one point less than in 2020 and 2 points less than in 2019, in line with the trend of a slow decline towards some 10–12% share in a few years. #2 Volkswagen Group and #3 SAIC retained their standings and shares, while #4 BYD was up one percentage point, to 9%, and should gain another point in December. The final 2021 standing will probably end with Tesla ahead, with 15% share, followed by Volkswagen Group (12%), SAIC (11%), and BYD (10%). Last month, the Chinese company delivered 10,489 electric cars (up 50% year-over-year), just a few hundred units less than in the record November (10,878). - In 2021, NIO sold over 90,000 electric cars. - The company intends to launch an all-new NIO ET7 flagship electric model in March 2022, which at a later point in the year, will be available also in selected European markets. - The mid-size premium sedan NIO ET5, unveiled at NIO Day 2021 in December 2021, is scheduled for the market launch in China in September 2022. However, the progressing ramp-up of the all-new XPeng P5 already allowed it to exceed the Xpeng G3/G3i. - In 2021, sales exceeded 98,000. The Free Press has reached out to the city agency for clarification. A Ford spokesman confirmed the fleet order is for the Mustang Mach-E GT. - The Mustang Mach-E GT models purchased will have a range of 270 miles. The city has installed 29 fast chargers for the NYPD and 103 chargers citywide with plans to add 275 more chargers in 2022. The BMW i4 M50 is bound to hit dealerships around the world this year before landing in customers' hands. But of course, the one competitor everyone is looking to take down is Tesla and, in this segment, the Model 3 Performance is the one to compare against the i4 M50. The guys from CarWow brought us the first drag race between these two models right as the new year rolled in. - The BMW and the Tesla are neck and neck in the first part of the 1/4 mile run but the German car pulls ahead towards the end, on both runs, which probably means the Bavarians are not exactly honest about the true power figures of their car. - both cars are all-wheel drive and both cars have a dual motor setup, one for each axle. The BMW i4 M50 has a combined maximum power output of 544 PS and 795 Nm of torque. Original Source : https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/01/01/video-bmw-i4-m50-vs-tesla-model-3-performance-drag-race/ AUDI Q6 E-TRON CAUGHT TESTING IN PUBLIC AGAIN - One of the more important upcoming electric models for Audi will be the Q6 e-tron, which is set to debut sometime next year. When it goes into production in 2022, the Audi Q6 e-tron will be the first PPE-based electric vehicle to come from the VW Group. - The PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture will underpin almost all upcoming VW Group EVs, including the Porsche Macan electric and the Audi A6 e-tron. However, it all starts with the Q6 e-tron, which was just recently caught testing in the wild yet again. - Being based on Audi's PPE architecture, the Q6 e-tron will have 800-volt architecture, just like the e-tron GT. Which means it will likely be able to charge at up to 270 kW, or even more. It also likely boast a range between 350-400 miles, considering Audi claimed the A6 e-tron Concept — based on the same PPE architecture — could get 430 miles. NEW BATTERY 'PASSPORTS' WILL REVEAL ALL - When you're shopping for a new electric bike, e-scooter, or electric car, a new 'passport' for batteries will soon help you understand the effect of its battery on the environment. - the scheme is due to start at the end of 2022, and will tell you all about how and where a specific battery was made, and even how it could be reused once it reaches the end of its life – all of which are becoming increasingly important as electric vehicles become mainstream. - The battery passport system will give much more transparency, helping identify batteries that are best and worst in class, and provide minimum standards for ethical and sustainable batteries. - According to the Global Battery Alliance, which is the organization behind the scheme, key info will also be available for customers so you can make an educated choice when picking a new car, bike, or scooter. Original Source : https://www.techradar.com/news/how-green-is-your-electric-car-really-new-battery-passports-will-reveal-all ELECTRIC CARS ARE LESS GREEN TO MAKE THAN PETROL BUT MAKE UP FOR IT IN LESS THAN A YEAR - Electric vehicles are more carbon intensive to produce compared to petrol cars, but drivers make up that extra carbon cost with just 7,000 miles of driving in the UK, new analysis has revealed. - An average medium-sized petrol car, around the size of a VW Golf, causes around 7.2 tonnes of carbon emissions to produce, according to analysis by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), an independent research organisation based in Berlin. - By comparison, producing a similar-sized electric car results in around 9.2 tonnes of carbon emissions. The extra pollution associated with an EV can be largely attributed to the battery, which is carbon intensive to manufacture. - ICCT calculated that a battery electric car running on UK grid electricity produces 35g of CO2 per km, compared to an average petrol car which emits 211g of CO2 per km. - this ‘carbon debt' can be made up after 7,061 miles of driving an electric vehicle in the UK. - In England the average new car is driven for around 10,400 miles in each of its first three years on the road, according to the RAC. Based on this mileage, a new electric car ‘breaks even' with a petrol car in less than a year. Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 11th October. BMW IX FIRST DRIVE REVIEW "The large, curved display screen that stretches across more than half of the dashboard. While it appears to be one long display, it's actually two distinct displays; a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, side by side and covered by a single piece of glass. The display is bright and crystal clear and BMW's new iDrive 8 (the iX is the first BMW to get iDrive 8) is a dramatic improvement over previous versions" says Tom Moloughney for InsideEVs: "The iX doesn't drive like a 5,659 lbs SUV. Even though it's roughly 600 to 800-lbs heavier than an X5, depending on the configuration, the iX actually feels like it's lighter. Toss it around on the switchbacks and the iX will behave exemplarily. The iX benefits from having all the weight of the 111 kWh battery pack down below the passenger compartment, as well as a bespoke chassis.  BMW quotes the iX as going 0-60mph in a scant 4.4 seconds and that felt about right. But the performance doesn't stop there. Punch the accelerator at highway speeds and you still get pushed back into your seat. The dual-motor powertrain pushes out 516 hp and 564 lb-ft of torque and is more than enough to put a smile on the face of just about any potential iX buyer." Tom concludes: "When DC fast charging, the iX can accept up to 200 kW and BMW promises a 10% to 80% DC fast charge time of 35 minutes. With a starting MSRP of $83,200 (plus $995 destination), the iX xDrive50 isn't cheap. However, when you put it up against its current competition: Tesla Model X $99,990 + $1,200 destination and Audi e-tron Premium Plus $74,800 + $1,095 destination, the iX looks pretty good." This bold claim was made by Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath during an interview with auto motorsport. For a company with only two models built so far, it's quite a claim, but Ingenlath has big plans for the future of Polestar with models that will take the fight directly to Porsche." reports motor1.com: "This means competition with Tesla and BMW in the sports sedan and SUV space while targeting Porsche's upcoming electric sports cars. Thomas Ingenlath affirms, “We are competing with Porsche for the best electrically powered premium sports car. The growing appetite and excitement for EVs mean that as long as Polestar can produce a strong product they will surely gain market share. Can they compete with Porsche to build an electric sports car" Read more: https://www.motor1.com/news/539574/polestar-sports-car-porsche/ AUTOMAKERS ARE SPENDING BILLIONS ON BATTERY DEVELOPMENT "Automakers and startups are investing billions of dollars in batteries in hopes that new or revamped chemistries, materials, and manufacturing processes will give them a leg up in a future where electric vehicles rule. Peter Rawlinson, the CEO of the electric-vehicle startup Lucid Motors, said this emphasis on the battery was wrong. An EV's range — and its customer appeal — he said, has little to do with how many kilowatts it hauls around." according to a subscriber piece in Business Insider: "The "Dream Edition" of Lucid's first model, the Lucid Air, offers an industry-trouncing range of 520 miles. That achievement, the CEO said, is "90% not the battery and 10% the battery. Rawlinson said offering that kind of range hinged on mastering every element of the car, including the motors, inverter, transmission, drive shafts, tires, aerodynamics, and cooling system." "The battery pack is totally overrated, and most people don't get it," Rawlinson told Insider. "The car has the range, not the battery. And the car has the efficiency, not the battery." One special Crimson red body and one new Deep blue body were seen at the factory by visitors at Giga Fest—while the third, a Khaki-like color, was not seen, but seems will also be offered." says the Tesmanian blog: "Among other cool spottings, one of the interesting observations were two Model Y bodies painted in new colors. In addition to these two colors, Giga Berlin is also expected to offer vehicles painted in khaki or similar to this color." https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-giga-berlin-shows-two-new-colors-for-the-first-time-for-the-german-made-model-y TESLA AUTO INSURANCE EXPANDING INTO TEXAS THIS WEEK "Tesla will launch its own brand of auto insurance in Texas this week, founder Elon Musk said during a Oct. 7 shareholders call addressing the company's headquarters relocation from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas. In January the state insurance department approved a revised policy form submitted by Redpoint County Mutual Insurance Co. for a Tesla Insurance program for private passenger autos." says InsuranceJournal.com: "Redpoint will underwrite Tesla's Texas insurance program, which will be distributed through the Tesla Insurance Services of Texas Inc.   Tesla has offered auto insurance in California for Tesla vehicles since 2019. Musk said Tesla is seeking regulatory approval in California to add real-time insurance." Kids of all ages dug the carnival rides, the giant Tesla coils shootin' out sparks, and the obligatory pumpin' sound-and-light show. For techies, however, the star of the show was Tesla's new structural battery pack. A cutaway version was on display, clearly showing how the new 4680 cells are arranged in the pack. Tesla offered visitors a mini-tour of the plant, and some of the many innovations making their debuts here were on display." says CHarles Morris at ChargedEVs.com: "The company is currently producing them on a pilot line in California, and several suppliers are reportedly working on scaling them to mass production. The new battery pack features a “cell-to-pack” design, with no battery modules, which should make it simpler and cheaper to produce. Its structural strength enables it to be joined with Tesla's massive single-piece front and rear underbody castings, further reducing weight, complexity and cost." "How long before Australia follows in the footsteps of Scandinavia and we see the demise of the plugless hybrid (HEV or Hybrid Electric  Vehicle) – a market dominated by Toyota?" asks The Driven: "Norway and Sweden have long been the bellwethers of the electric car revolution and we have watched with avid fascination how BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and PHEVs (Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) have increased their penetration in these countries. One phenomenon which may have flown under the radar is the slow death of the non-plug in hybrid (HEV), also known as “mild hybrids”. As avant garde as the Prius was 20 years ago, it is now quickly becoming passé. And from 2025, at least in Norway and from 2030 in many other countries, they will be banned." Carwow, which saw a 59% surge in searches for EVs last week, designed the ‘Fuelled Off' campaign in-house in an attempt to capitalize on increased demand." write The Drum: "For its campaign Carwow tapped the face of its YouTube channel, Mat Watson, to front the ads, which say, ‘Don't be fuelish, Go EV.' The ads have been placed on digital billboards across the country. ". "As some petrol stations ran out of fuel and queues of cars lined up outside those that did have stocks, causing lengthy waits for motorists waiting to fill up, many drivers' thoughts turned to the option of buying an electric vehicle." says The Guardian: "The classified ad website Autotrader says there was a 60% rise in searches for electric cars in the week after 24 September, when shortages at the pumps started. Industry figures show that the number of electric cars sold in the UK last month neared the figures for the whole of 2019.  In the past, many drivers have been turned off by the upfront cost, which is typically higher than petrol equivalents. But with the price of production falling and battery prices coming down, switching is becoming more accessible. So is now the time to go electric?" Happy New Year everyone! We're very excited to be starting 2021 with a brand-new episode of the 40 Minute Mentor. With the recent announcement of Lockdown 3.0 in England, we can all do with some extra inspiration and motivation and that’s exactly what today’s 40 Minute Mentor is here to do. Just over a decade ago, today’s guest, James Hind, took his passion for cars and turned it into a business that has since grown into one of the Europe’s most popular car buying and reviewing platforms, Carwow. You’ve probably heard of it, or quite possibly used it yourself! Today, Carwow boasts a team of more than 200 people across London, Munich, and Madrid, and raised over $100m in funding since it launched. It can also lay claim to the world’s most popular YouTube car channel with over 5 million subscribers. Having jumped straight from university into running his own business, James has some fascinating insights into the life of a tech founder and what it takes to get a new venture off the ground without a ‘big brand’ CV behind him. In this episode he tells all and shares so much great advice including: - How to raise money from VC’s and angel investors when you have no experience and no contacts. - The growth story of Carwow and how his approach to hiring world class talent has evolved over time - And the challenges of expanding into new territories and the importance of culture and communication when scaling It was such a privilege to speak to James who we’ve got to know well in recent years and respect hugely. It was great to hear his candid perspectives on some of the top issues that so many entrepreneurs struggle with. In the current climate, it was great to hear his optimism and some of the big positives he thinks have come out of the pandemic. So whether you’re thinking about starting your own business, are getting ready for your first round of funding or are looking to scale in 2021, this episode is an absolute must-listen. Hector Mason is an Investor at Episode 1 Ventures, a seed stage Venture Capital fund, whose previous investments include Carwow, Attest, Zoopla and Shazam. Prior to his time at Episode 1 Hector tried his hand at being a founder and after a couple of attempts, one of which included a successful exit Hector decided to move into consultancy before finally settling on venture capital. Since his move Hector has been slowly making a name for himself as one of the most adept early stage investors in the U.K. Hector sat down with James to open up on his time as an entrepreneur, his meteoric rise in venture and what he looks for when investing. Audi RS e-tron GT Prototype Impresses Ferrari remains shy on electric cars Bentley To Become An EV-Only Brand UK EV sales up 195% Germany marks October sales records for EVs Northvolt commissions first public energy storage system Tesla launches new winter tyres and wheels Updated: BMW's Change Of EV Philosophy   Show #924   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AUDI RS E-TRON GT PROTOTYPE IMPRESSES "Audi Sport, the division responsible for the automaker’s RS-badged models, has so far not done an electric vehicle. But it is currently putting the finishing touches on its first ever, an RS version of the upcoming Audi e-tron GT electric sedan, and it’s let journalists and influencers have a go in it." says InsideEVs: "Those who have had the chance to try it out, including Carwow’s Mat Watson and Misha Charoudin, were really impressed by the performance and the looks of the vehicle. They not only got to drive the vehicle in a controlled traffic-free environment, but they were also allowed to take the prototypes out on the road. Mat measured its performance with specialist timing gear - he recorded the RS e-tron GT as being able to sprint to sixty in 2.88 seconds and it completed the quarter-mile in 10.94 seconds at almost 130 mph (210 km/h)."   The excellent evo.co.uk says: "Audi’s take on the Taycan is more relaxed than its Porsche counterpart, but will still make you second-guess that RS7 order" but doesn that imply to you like this is an Audi-badged Taycan? It's definitely not. It may share the J1 Performance PLatform but it's not a rebadged Porsche, everything you see (and a lot you can't see) is all designed by the Audi engineers. So you'll see similarities but correlation does not imply causation.   They write: "The RS e-tron GT sits roughly on par with the non-S Taycan Turbo in terms of output. Its front-axle motor develops 175kW (235bhp) through a single-speed gearbox, and the rear 335kW (449bhp) through a two-speed unit and locking diff, for a combined 510kW (684bhp) – 10kW (13bhp) greater than the Taycan Turbo’s peak output. Like other recent Audi Sport models, the RS e-tron GT has a suite of features to keep its mass under control, from four-wheel steering to new three-chamber adaptive air suspension, the latter dropping the car 22mm for aerodynamics at high speed, 10mm in sporty driving, or raising it 20mm at low speeds for extra clearance."   CAR mag says: "Pricing is TBC, but expect a £120,000 ballpark – a circa £20k premium over the non-RS e-Tron GT. Just like the Taycan, there’s a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, and a focus on coasting rather than recuperation to extend battery range. However, the Audi apparently uses its front e-motor a little more for reasons of efficiency, but can switch so rapidly to the rear (5x faster than mechanical all-wheel drive) that the effect on dynamic driving should be minimal. Expect more than 248 miles on the WLTP cycle. Charge times will be equivalent to the Taycan, with a maximum DC charging capacity of 270kW, for a theoretical 62 miles of range in 5 minutes. One engineer said the Porsche was ‘more about every last bit of lap time’, hence Dynamic mode is softer than a Taycan’s Sport, and there’s no Sport Plus equivalent."   "Battery-pack capacity is one spec that makes no match with the Taycan. While the Porsche has a 79.2-kwh Performance Battery or a 93.4-kwh Performance Battery Plus, the E-Tron GT has an 83.7-kwh (net) battery with 396 pouch cells split into 33 modules. " according to Green CAr Reports: "The GT has two coolant circuits running at different temperature levels—a cooler one for the battery pack and a warmer one for the motors and power electronics. There are also cooling and heating circuits for the interior.  Between the four circuits, a series of valves allow the systems to be flexibly interconnected, to function as a heat pump for the interior. The potential of the cooling systems is most used during high-performance driving, or during the highest-power DC fast charging"   https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/the-moment-of-truthformula-e-driver-lucas-di-grassi-tests-production-based-rs-e-tron-gt-13336   https://insideevs.com/reviews/452708/audi-rs-e-tron-gt-driven-tested/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   https://www.evo.co.uk/audi/203235/audi-rs-e-tron-gt-prototype-review-all-electric-taycan-turbo-rival-driven   https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/audi/etron-gt/   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1130199_2022-audi-e-tron-gt-electric-car-details-battery-charging-performance   FERRARI REMAINS SHY ON ELECTRIC CARS "According to CEO Louis Camilleri, he doesn't believe the Italian brand will ever transition to a totally electric lineup. In fact, he doesn't even think the marque will reach an EV spread of 50%, at least in his lifetime, according to remarks he made during an investor call. Ferrari declined to comment further." says CNET.com: "Ferrari rolled out its first plug-in hybrid last year in the SF90 Stradale and the company thinks it will have an electric car ready after 2025. But, the it's not in a rush to go totally electric. "   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ferrari-electric-cars-ceo/#ftag=CAD-09-10aai5b   BENTLEY TO BECOME AN EV-ONLY BRAND "Bentley has used their Beyond 100 event to reveal their “bold ambition to be a leader of sustainable luxury mobility.” Under the plan, Bentley will exclusively offer plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles by 2026. The plug-in hybrids will eventually be dropped and the automaker will become an EV-only brand by 2030." reports CarScoops: "This is a huge change as Bentley is the “world’s largest producer of 12-cylinder petrol engines” and they’ll be completely phased out in less than a decade."   https://www.carscoops.com/2020/11/bentley-to-become-an-ev-only-brand-petrol-engines-to-be-phased-out-by-2030/   UK EV SALES UP 195%  battery electric and plug-in hybrid car uptake grew substantially to account for more than one in 10 registrations as new models continue to increase consumer choice. Demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by 195.2%, while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were up 148.7% compared with October last year.   9,335 BEV in Oct and 76k YTD   GERMANY MARKS OCTOBER SALES RECORDS FOR EVS "According to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), exactly 23,158 electric cars were newly registered in Germany in October, marking a new record. Compared to the same month last year, this segment recorded an increase of no less than 365.1 per cent." reports electrive: "In terms of market share, all-electric passenger cars in Germany reached 8.4 per cent in October – in September the figure was 8 per cent."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/11/04/germany-marks-october-sales-records-for-evs/   NORTHVOLT COMMISSIONS FIRST PUBLIC ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM Northvolt has commissioned its first public energy storage system at an electric vehicle charging station in Västerås, Sweden. The battery system is the first that local energy provider Mälarenergi has deployed alongside EV charging infrastructure. The system serves to reduce peaks in electricity demand of the charging station by more than 80%, thereby lessening the demands of electric vehicle charging on the electricity network. Northvolt has delivered a lithium-ion battery system based around its modular battery system, Voltrack, which provides power output up to 220 kW and a usable energy capacity of 320 kWh. The battery system functions as a buffer between the electricity grid and EV charging station to enable peak shaving and load levelling. Peak shaving in this way helps utilities to meet demand without relying on peaking generators which are increasingly recognized as a costly and inefficient way to compensate for new demands of EV charging.   https://northvolt.com/newsroom/Rocklunda-Nov2020   TESLA LAUNCHES NEW WINTER TYRES AND WHEELS "Tesla has launched its Model Y winter tire and wheel package just in time for the first snow and regulations in the north. In the Northeast, many jurisdictions require drivers to install winter tires on their vehicles before a certain deadline in order to improve road safety." according to electrek.co: " Now with the Model Y about to face its first winter, Tesla has released the “Model Y 19″ Gemini Wheel and Winter Tire Package. It comes with PIRELLI WINTER SOTTOZERO™ tires and costs $3,500 in the US and $4,700 in Canada; If your Model Y is sporting bigger than 19″ wheels with summer/all-season tires, we do recommend downgrading to 19″ for the winter, and that’s where Tesla’s wheel and tire package becomes a more attractive option."   https://electrek.co/2020/11/04/tesla-model-y-winter-tire-wheel-package-launch/#   UPDATED: BMW'S CHANGE OF EV PHILOSOPHY From Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW: " We delivered more than 116,000 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to customers in the first nine months – a new all-time high and a significant year-on-year increase of 20 percent. This trend became even clearer in October.  The MINI Cooper SE has delighted around 13,000 customers since March – and our current order book is just as full. The BMW iX3 will be arriving in showrooms in the next few days. In 2021, the BMW i4 will come out of Plant Munich, with an electric range of up to 600 km. Followed in 2021 by the iNEXT. The Board of Management took the series version for a test drive. I’m sure this car will surprise and delight a lot of people. We expect demand for fully-electric vehicles to continue increasing significantly from 2025 on. Exactly then – just at the right time – we will launch phase III of our transformation. Our new cluster architecture is geared towards electric drive trains. This area reports directly to me. It is organisationally connected to all divisions – from markets, finance, procurement, development and production, all the way to sales and marketing. This gives us greater leverage and makes us much faster – also in our cooperation with partners. The objective is for the new architecture to create an overall optimum. Our new plant in Hungary will play a key role in this, ramping up the new BEV-centric architecture from the middle of the decade."   https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0319993EN/statement-oliver-zipse-chairman-of-the-board-of-management-of-bmw-ag-conference-call-interim-report-to-30-september-2020   You can listen to all 923 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSYMONS.CO.UK – THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE SPECIALIST (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) OEM AUDIO OF NEW ZEALAND AND EVPOWER.CO.NZ (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASHLEY HILL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DARREN FEATCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN SEAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODICERS) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NICHOLAS MILLER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. How does this downturn compare to that of the dot-com and 2008? 3.) Why did Stride decide to take the decision to pause on investing at this moment in time? How does Fred respond to the suggestion of better pricing and less competition at this time? How does Fred believe venture investors view of risk evolves at this time? What is the first to change? 4.) With many new funds deploying their first fund in 18 months, does Fred think we will see a gravyard of new fund managers out of cash and with cash hungry portfolios? What advice does Fred give to newer managers of other elements they have to be minfdul/aware of? 5.) How does Fred think about the right way for managers to communicate with their LPs at this time? Dr Simon Murdoch follows his instincts. He set up Bookpages in the mid-90's because he saw an opportunity to emulate Amazon in the UK. He has invested in some the most iconic UK start-ups of the last twenty years. He has become a figurehead for invested investors in London. He loves what he does, particularly learning something new everyday. In this podcast Simon describes why he set up a competitor to Amazon, what it's like to work for Jeff Bezos and how he transitioned into investing. Although he has experienced his share of failures, his eye for a successful start-up is remarkable.  Dr Simon Murdoch is Managing Partner of Episode 1 Ventures which runs two Enterprise Capital Funds investing c £100m in early stage software-driven businesses in the UK. Investments in Episode 1’s first fund include Aimbrain, Carwow, CloudNC, Emoov and Triptease. The second fund was launched recently and is looking for c 25 more companies to build from Seed to Series A and beyond. Simon is a highly experienced technology investor and has been an entrepreneur as well as a very active angel and venture capitalist. Previously, Simon was VP Europe of Amazon.com. He managed huge growth from start up in late 1996 through to multimillion turnover and hundreds of staff, ie from founding his own Internet bookselling company Bookpages in 1996, to acquisition by Amazon.com and launch of Amazon.co.uk in 1998, and its subsequent ultra-high growth. In 2000, he was founder and managing partner of Chase Episode 1, a $100m fund raised to invest at start up or early stage in Internet and technology businesses in Europe such as Betfair (IPO 2010), ScanSafe (sold to Cisco 2009) and First Tuesday. Unusually for a year 2000 vintage fund, Chase Episode 1 returned over 3x the amount invested to its investors. He also spent two years from 2010 at Octopus Ventures as Portfolio Director covering over 30 investee businesses including Evi Technologies, SwiftKey and Graze. Over the last 18 years, Simon has invested directly as a business angel and advised as non-executive chairman or director a number of successful Internet and mobile technology businesses based in the UK.

Monday 9th April 2018. A shout out to Simon LaSalle who listen in Virginia. “Hi Martyn I enjoy the show every day, I like to support my favourite podcasts on Patreon, do you have a page?” Thanks Simon, I love hearing from people who enjoy the news every day. I must admit I’d had to pay for more storage and streaming because the podcast seems to have found a wider audience lately but no not yet, I’m happy to foot the cost myself but your support is really appreciated.   ELECTRIC GT We’ll start with a tease and GT Holding is the organisers of the electric Tesla GT series. ”Electric GT Holdings have got big news to share ... tomorrow! Follow us and sign up for our newsletter now so you don't miss the big announcement.” I’ll cover the news on tomorrows show for you. I’m hoping it’s going to be the dates of the first races, maybe some drivers, or even more specs on the cars. We know they were approved by the FIA on 1st Feb, and a week before that the car passed the crash tests. And that car being a Tesla P100DL.   MUSK TWEETS Elon has been using Twitter increasingly lately, not just for chat, but specific announcements. And in response to a question about the dual motor Model 3 he said:   CARWOW REVIEW LEAF 2.O One of the most visited car channels on YouTube is Carwow and now they’ve spent some time with the next gen Nissan LEAF. “The Nissan Leaf is a comfortable, eco-friendly family car with good looks. However, its infotainment system is outdated and the interior quality is inconsistent” Pros: Decent range Big boot for a car this size Nippy Cons: Some cheap-looking materials inside Regenerative brakes feel odd at first Dated infotainment MERCEDES ADD ANOTHER EV We’re quickly learning about the naming conventions of major car makers with their electric models. With VW we have the ID, ID CROZZ and ID VIZZION, with Audi it will be the e-tron range, with BMW we know they’ve registered iX1, iX2, iX3 etc. And with Mercedes, the EQC was quickly joined by the EQA and now the EQS, which will be C-Class sized. Electrive reports on Michael Kelz, head of development for the EQC Crossover which should be on sale by the end of this year, expects the EQS to be available by 2020. The sedan will be an individual model, based on the MEA architecture platform, and will not simply be an electric version of the existing vehicle, in this case the regular S-class. This marks a difference to the other traditional luxury car brands, as Audi and Jaguar both decided to electrify their vehicles instead of redesigning them, particularly with the Audi A8 and the Jaguar XJ. Concerning the name of the new vehicle, Mercedes has been planning the move since 2016, when they reserved the rightsto the names EQA, EQC, EQE, EQG and EQS in the UK. Recently the car manufacturer also reserved the naming rights in Canada for the EQ family additions. CNET say: “It will be separate from the standard S-Class, which is expected to begin a new generation in 2020, the same year that it's believed Mercedes will debut the EQ S. The two cars will reportedly be built on separate platforms, with the EQ S relying on an EV-specific chassis engineered to accommodate large batteries.”   FORD STLL UNCLEAR ON ELECTRIC FUTURE Ford aren’t exactly known as electric trailblazers, and 247WallSt website reports: “Year to date Ford’s shares are down 11.7%. GM’s are off 9.9%. Toyota’s are down 2.3%. Ford’s domestic sales rose 3.5% in March to 243,021. Its sales for the first quarter are down 2.7%. The deeper issue is whether Ford has a chance to be a leader in electric cars and autonomous vehicles. CEO Jim Hackett’s plans have not caught the eyes of investors. Ford is seen as too far behind most of the industry for both categories. It not only faces massive plans from every other major car company but from smaller companies led by Tesla”.   ELECTRIFY THE SKIES Thelocal.no report on regional carrier Wideroe Airlines, operating in Norway's far north, plans to renew its fleet of twin-engine Bombardier Dash 8 planes with electric-powered aircraft by 2030: “"Many people say that we must get rid of air transport because we will never be able to deal with emissions and noise, but this is an outdated approach," said Norwegian Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen, who recently hosted an aviation conference in Oslo. Norway, the largest oil and gas producer in western Europe, is paradoxically a pioneer in the field of electric transport. The Nordic nation aims for all new vehicle registrations to be zero emission by 2025and launched a first electric ferry in early 2015.” After land and water, the northern kingdom is now turning to the sky with the goal of electrifying all short haul flights in just over 20 years. "In my mind, there is no doubt: by 2040 Norway will be operating totally electric," said Dag Falk-Petersen, head of the country's public airport operator, Avinor.   I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested. Saturday 24th March 2018. NISSAN AIMS TO SELL 1 MILLION EVS ANNUALLY BY 2022  According to Business Insider: “Nissan Motor Co on Friday said it planned to sell 1 million electric vehicles annually by 2022, including all-battery EVs and cars powered by its "e-Power" petrol hybrid technology. During that period, the Japanese automaker said it would develop eight new all-battery EVs, including four models for China, where it is planning to expand. Its luxury Infiniti brand would begin carrying new electric models from 2021, it added. Nissan and its automaking partners, France's Renault SA and Mitsubishi Motors Corp , together plan to launch 12 electric models as part of their strategy to achieve annual vehicle sales totaling 14 million units by 2022, compared with 10.6 million units in 2017.”   AND THEY WANT TO LIGHT UP OLD BATTERIES  And sticking with Nissan, they are still thinking about how to use old LEAF batteries. You may remember many of the early cars were on battery leases so if they’re back with Nissan now, what to do with them? There’s always home storage. But what about using them for light? Slashgear point out: They’ll be installing new street lighting in Namie, a Japanese town heavily affected by both the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. By using solar panels and LEDs, the custom lamps will be completely independent from the traditional main power grid, and require no electric cables or outlets” “The design resembles a stylized shepherd’s crook, with the solar panel on the upper section and a sheet of LED lights underneath. In the base, battery packs repurposed from old electric cars like the Nissan Leaf store the electricity generated from the sun during the day, and then release it to power the lights at night. The lamps stand just over nine feet high.”   NEW ALL ELECTRIC BENTLEY HAS MISSION E HELP  Bentley are moving on with their plan for an all-electric luxury 4-door coupe. And they’ll be using some of the investment already poured into Porsche by the VW group, for their Mission E car. Evo say: “Bentley has already confirmed that it will offer electrified versions of its entire current model range by 2025. The move to develop a new all-electric flagship in addition to this comes as the company seeks to reposition itself as a luxury and technology brand   PEER TO PEER EV CHARGING Coming via Fleet News: “Zap-Map has launched a peer-to-peer EV charging network, allowing charge point owners to share electricity with other registered users. Almost 50% of EV drivers told Zap-Map that they were willing to share their home charging with other users, resulting in around 60,000 chargers that could be added to the network. The initiative, called Zap-Home, also provides owners with the opportunity to earn money by sharing their charger. Registered users can set a cost per charge, payable via PayPal.Me. Zap-Map’s chief technology officer Dr Ben Lane said: “Of our 60,000 monthly userbase, we know that around half are willing to share their home point with other Zap-Map users. "Businesses are particularly proactive with 5% of workplace charging points already.   I-PACE LAPS MONACO AT NIGHT If you’re watching Youtube this weekend, as long as great new videos from Fully Charged and Carwow reviewing the new Nissan LEAF, there’s a new Jaguary I-PACE video which looks…and sounds…great. Motor 1 say: The video shows the I-Pace taking to the streets of Monaco and driving past nighttime revellers, Jaguar's Formula E mechanics hard at work in the garage and even a few sleepy yacht crews on the way round the iconic corners. The real danger around the track appears to be from street sweepers, allowing the Jaguar to entirely coincidentally show o

Home Charging Challenge, Daimler EV Investment and Autopilot Upgrade | 25 Feb 2018   Chinese Investment In Daimler With EV Projects In Mind | National Newspaper Says 2% Of Owners Have Home Chargers | Tesla Looks To Workplace Chargers | Profits Up For VW As Electric Plans Move Forward | Tesla Autopilot On Verge Of Major Update | Porsche 911 Could Electrify   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening! Wherever you're listening around the world, a very warm welcome from London, UK.  Here is today’s news about electric cars and future transport.  My name is Martyn Lee and this is your EV News Daily for Sunday 25th February 2018. On the podcast today… we’ll talk about free Tesla chargers for where you work, and strange surveys….   GEELY GO AFTER THE GERMANS   …but first Chinese EV maker Geely has invested in Daimler, and they’ve invested enough to be the largest single shareholder.  Now Geely already own Lotus, Proton, and Volvo since they bought it from Ford in 2010 – who earlier this week we were talking about making a PHEV V60 model, plus the new London Black Cabs which are EV REX.  Plus of course they recently spun off Polestar from Volvo to make expensive, high end electric cars.   It seems it’s Geely’s owner Li Shufu who has made the investment, which is just under 10% of the company around £6.4bn, or $9bn.   So what’s behind the move? Well the owner of Geely is a billionaire to he’s clearly a good businessman. The Mercedes EQ brand has been getting a lot of publicity and, from the details we’ve had, is well regarded in terms of the progress they’ve made with developing EV drivetrains for their cars.  There are economies of scale too; the new LEVC black cab has recognisable bits switchgear from a Volvo for example.   http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/mercedes/102743/geely-buys-a-10-stake-in-mercedes-benz-owner-daimler-ag   MAJOR SURVEY SAYS 2% OF EV OWNERS HAVE HOME CHARGERS   Next let’s’ talk about how EVs are written about by the mainstream media. It’s a Sunday and as people sit down to read a Sunday newspaper supplement – although fewer and fewer people do these days – what did the Sunday Times Newspaper here in the UK have to say about EVs?   2,000 people were surveyed, 16% saying the next car would be a BEV, PHEV or hybrid. And yet it says a third would have to drive 10 miles to charge it. The survey was done by CarWow. It says 2% of those with an EV already have a charger at home. And that doesn’t seem to make sense. I can’t think of any question CarWow would have asked, even singling out PHEV drivers or including all soft hybrid cars as “electric”, to get a result so low. There are 140,000 EV’s sold here in the UK  and 100,000 home chargers have been installed.   Andrew Hooks is the COO of Carwow and we tried to connect with him on Twitter to reach out to him to ask about methodology, and now they get the 2% figure, but we doesn’t seem to be on social media. When their PR are back in the office on Monday I’ll follow it up.   https://www.driving.co.uk/news/middle-classes-drive-electric-car-boom-nowhere-charge-battery/         As for where and when you charge, we reported last week about a large US study of LEAF owners who had charging at home and at work, and 96% of all charging was done in either location. And now Tesla are getting into workplace charging. Now Tesla has announced it wants to work with large workplaces to install free chargers for Tesla owners as long as the employer pays for the electricity.   For most people, they’re at work for 8-10 hours a day, and then at home 8-10 hours a day so, between both locations, their charging should be covered. With a Tesla charger you could just charge at work if you live in an apartment or don’t have parking at home.   https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/02/teslas-new-workplace-charging-program-would-corner-office-parking-spots/   PROFITS UP FOR VW, AS EV PLANS TAKE SHAPE   VW Group posted record earning on Friday. I’m torn as I still own a Golf, I love VW quality, I’ve had two golfs, but I really hate their culture on emissions, animal testing to further their diesel agenda. So on one hand Dieselgate was a turning point when I said I’d never own another VW, but their investment into electrification is huge and you can see from the top of the company the direction they’re going in.   The Dieselgate emission scandal has cost them $30bn already, that’s about £21.5bn, with more set aside. However profit is up to almost $14 Euro helped by the top end of the market, like Audi and Porsche. Of course, coming soon is the E-Tron and Mission-E respectively.    https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-volkswagen-results/vws-profitability-may-take-a-hit-from-electric-vehicle-shift-idUKKCN1G71XD?il=0   TESLA AUTOPILOT ON THE VERGE OF MAJOR UPDATE   Tesla is beta testing its new Autopilot. Tesla already have billions of miles of autopilot driving logged and advances to its Neural Net system is said to be at the core of these improvements.    We heard a few weeks ago from Elon Musk saying a new version was coming soon, so Tesla owners are probably close to getting an update.   The question that’s still being asked: is Autopilot 1.0 better than Autopilot 2.0?   https://electrek.co/2018/02/23/tesla-autopilot-beta-testing-new-autopilot-update-with-new-feature-neural-net/   LEGENDARY 911 COULD GET BATTERIES   And finally, the legendary Porsche 911. Porsche hasn’t exactly made a ringing endorsement for electrification but they said they wouldn’t rule it out, and that the most positive they’ve been.   https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/hybrid-electric/a18701912/electric-porsche-911-porsche-interview-news/     TESLA WANT TO CHARGE YOUR CAR AT WORK   Thank you for listening today, I hope you've enjoyed it.
