Ford is simultaneously restructuring, creating a new "Product Creation and Industrialization" organisation under COO Kumar Galhotra that unifies EV, petrol, and hybrid programmes, with the first vehicle on Ford's new Universal EV architecture — a midsize electric pickup — due next year.DACIA READIES SUB-£16,000 ELECTRIC CITY CARDacia has revealed spy shots of a new electric city car priced from under €18,000 (£15,600), designed in just 16 months with help from its China team, featuring a design closer to its SUV range than the related Renault Twingo. Expected to use a 27.5kWh battery with around 160 miles of range, the car will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, with Dacia also planning three further EVs before 2030.MERCEDES-BENZ LAUNCHES VLE RANGE FROM €82,260Mercedes-Benz has launched the VLE range starting at €82,260, built on an 800-volt architecture capable of charging at up to 300 kW, enabling 355 km of WLTP range to be added in just 15 minutes. The range spans from the entry-level VLE 250 with an LFP battery to the VLE 400 4MATIC with a 305 kW all-wheel-drive system, with seating configurations from five to eight seats and pricing up to €113,000 depending on specification.KIA EV2 FIRST EDITION JOINS UK ECGThe Kia EV2 First Edition now qualifies for the UK government's £1,500 Electric Car Grant, bringing its net on-the-road price to £26,995. The EV2 had its world premiere in January 2026, entered series production in March at Kia's Slovakia plant, and sits as the entry point to Kia's dedicated BEV line-up designed and built in Europe.FREE ELECTRICITY ON GERMAN V2G TARIFFMunich-based The Mobility House plans to launch a V2G electricity tariff in Germany, initially paired with the Renault 5, that could allow EV owners to drive for free by charging when renewable energy is cheap and selling power back to the grid at peak times. A 2024 French pilot with Renault showed that connecting a car for an average of 14 hours per day can reduce charging costs for 10,000 km of driving to effectively zero, with the Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLC also set to join the programme later in 2026.BYD GAINS GROUND IN GERMANYBYD is surging in Germany, with Carwow recording a 135% jump in purchase queries for the brand in Q1 2026, driven by rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict and increasing new car costs making Chinese EVs more attractive. Interest centred on BYD's electric SUVs and the Dolphin hatchback, with Chinese-owned MG also seeing increased demand on the platform.BYD'S JINAN HEADS FOR GERMANYBYD's car carrier Jinan, one of the world's largest at 9,200-vehicle capacity, departed Shanghai on 17 March carrying fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles bound for Germany, arriving around 33 days later. The shipment highlights BYD's continued reliance on Chinese exports while European local production ramps up, with trial assembly underway in Szeged, Hungary since January and series production targeted for Q2 2026.BYD PRICES SEAL 6 PHEVS IN AUSTRALIABYD Australia has confirmed pricing for the Seal 6 Sedan and Seal 6 Touring PHEVs, with the Sedan Essential starting at A$34,990 (around £18,380) — undercutting the Toyota Camry Hybrid — and first deliveries expected around June 2026. Both models use BYD's DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid system with Blade battery technology, offering 55 km electric range on the Sedan and around 100 km on the Touring Premium.POLESTAR AUSTRALIA BOSS ATTACKS PHEVSPolestar Australia's managing director Scott Maynard has publicly called PHEVs "the worst of both worlds," arguing they combine electric drivetrain complexity with petrol engine weight, rarely get charged by owners, and can actually be less efficient than a pure petrol car due to the added battery mass. He also claimed PHEVs are "fast becoming irrelevant" as EV range improves — a notable stance given that Polestar's parent company Geely continues to sell PHEVs across Volvo, Lotus, and Lynk & Co.TESLA ADDS SUNWODA AS FIFTH BATTERY SUPPLIERTesla has signed Sunwoda Electric Vehicle Battery as its fifth battery supplier, with Sunwoda set to provide third-generation LFP cells capable of charging at up to 3C — cutting charge time to around 20 minutes, compared to Tesla's current 2C LFP packs. The cells are destined for export vehicles built at Giga Shanghai, with Tesla buying raw prismatic cells from Sunwoda and assembling the modules and packs in-house.HONDA DROPS E:NY1 FROM UK LINE-UPHonda has removed the e:Ny1 from its UK configurator, leaving it with no fully electric models on sale in Britain after the car sold just 7,122 units in three years, hampered by a high price and limited range requiring heavy dealer discounts. This creates a serious ZEV mandate problem for Honda, which must hit 22% BEV sales this year rising to 80% by 2030, with fines of up to £15,000 per non-compliant vehicle — relief is expected from mid-2026 when a retro-inspired compact EV on the new Super-N platform arrives priced under £20,000.

Selling In The Motor Trade

What happens when a former professional footballer and football agent walks into the motor trade… and decides to build a dealership with "more care, more style, and a lot less ego"? In this episode, I'm joined by Josh Apps, founder of V12 Automobil in Central London. Josh didn't grow up in the trade. He's built V12 from scratch since 2022, and he's straight-talking about what actually works when you're buying and selling everything from a £20k GLC to a £1m+ hypercar.  We get into the real mechanics of his business, like underwriting stock, consignment done properly, why some dealers go bust with SOR, what he's seeing on Carwow and Motorway, and how he thinks about margin, risk, and stock turn in a market where plenty of people are trying to make £5k the easy way instead of £9k the stressful way.  Episode highlights: The mindset shift from football + agency life into running a dealership, and what skills actually transfer. Josh's take on consignment/SOR: why it can work, why it often blows up, and the process that stops you "playing with other people's money". How he sources stock day-to-day (dealers, auctions, Carwow/Motorway, LinkedIn, banks) and why access to stock is both easier and messier now. The uncomfortable truth about online buying platforms: inflated offers, knock-backs, cars reappearing, and how it creates friction for customers and dealers. A proper "car dealer war story": the Range Rover that turned into an engine rebuild, a transport job, and a stress test in customer service. The simple but rare philosophy that's kept his reviews and referrals strong: do the right thing even when it costs.   Finding this useful? Follow the show About Symco Training: Symco Training was founded in 2000 by Simon Bowkett and it was his belief that the business had to offer its clients something different. That difference was clear to Simon from his days in the dealership when he experienced many sales trainers who had all the answers, but were unable, unwilling or both to actually show the delegate how they could be implemented. It remains the ethos of the business today. You see, Symco only employ trainers that are committed to delivering not only in spiring and insightful training, but are equally as happy to demonstrate these skills and techniques with real customers in your own showroom. We believe in order for sales training to be effective and in Simon's words 'real world', it needs to be tried and tested in the only place it matters the showroom floor. There is no room for theory when your goals are for your team to sell more cars, hours or parts and retain more profit. In dealerships around the world the focus applied by many of the sales executives is to try and sell a deal. Symco specialise in getting your teams to focus on selling themselves, the product and then supporting this with the deal. To find out more visit: www.symcotraining.co.uk

Kota, the insurance benefits platform and API, has announced it has raised $14.5m in Series A funding bringing total funding to $22.9 million. The round was led by Eurazeo, along with existing investors EQT Ventures, Northzone, Frontline Ventures and new investors in 9Yards and Plug and Play. The investment will power Kota's mission to make employee benefits globally accessible and frictionless for employees - delivered through its intuitive platform and flexible API. Alongside their Series A, they are also announcing that they've obtained their Central Bank of Ireland Authorisation, making it one of the few technology platforms to be regulated . Kota is rebuilding employee benefits from the ground up. Millions miss out on essentials like pensions and healthcare - not because employers don't care, but because the system is broken. Legacy providers, PDFs, and manual processes make benefits inaccessible and unmanageable. Kota fixes this. Like Revolut did for banking, Kota delivers a modern, user-first experience for employee benefits. It integrates directly with insurers and pension providers, giving employees real-time access and control, and HR teams a single, reliable platform to manage everything. By combining their regulation, infrastructure, and user friendly platform and app, they make benefits effortless for HR & Finance, and engaging for employees. The funding will be used to expand the Kota team, increase the variety of insurance carrier partners in its products, and accelerate customer acquisition. Luke Mackey Founder and CEO said "Employee benefits, which can make up 25% of total compensation, are systematically undervalued and expensive. I experienced this as a founder and a GM -- managing benefits in email, between brokers and insurance companies, completely disconnected and alien from anything else in the business. It's entirely out of date. Ultimately, no one on the team connected or engaged with them, no matter how much we invested. It's not surprising. Insurance benefits are delivered in clunky portals or in PDFs, which is so un engaging compared to the financial experiences employees are used to.Kota integrates directly with insurance companies so we can control that experience and make it easy to roll out and run benefits, no matter who you are or where your team is. This means that employees can quickly understand, enrol, access coverage, retirement plans, or other benefits, and actually value them." Elise Stern from Eurazeo said "Kota really stood out to us. With a tech-first approach, they've built a robust technical and financial infrastructure: deep integrations with insurers across dozens of countries, visibility across the benefits stack, and a seamless API that allows partners - from HRIS to payroll - to embed benefits natively." Since launching in 2023, Kota has helped hundreds of small and medium sized companies seamlessly access, easily manage, along with tens of thousands of employees understand and value their cover. Kota integrates with and offers some of Europe's leading insurance providers, like Vitality in the UK, ONVZ in the Netherlands, Sanitas in Spain, Irish Life Health in Ireland, Allianz Global Care internationally, and many more. Kota powers benefits for Remote.com, and has become the benefits platform of choice for leading scale-ups across Europe such as Zoe Health, Poolside, Carwow, Tines, &Open and Protex AI. Last year, they launched Kota Embed, their embedded insurance offering for HR platforms to make insurance benefits available to their customers without leaving their HRIS or Payroll tool, with customers like Remote, Helios and insurance companies like Irish Life Health as customers. Historically employee benefits have lived offline outside the stack that HR and employees have come accustomed to and are difficult to manage and understand. Employee benefits, while growing into a $70bn market, are still completely unfit for lean, forward-thinking start-ups and scale-ups - parti...

Discover why personal brands are thriving while business brands struggle to keep up in today's fast-paced digital landscape. Learn the secrets to building a successful brand that resonates with your audience and allows you to pivot seamlessly. KEY TAKEAWAYS Personal brands outperform business brands in terms of followers, leads, income, and status in your space. Attaching a personal brand to a business can lead to massive success, as seen with examples like Elon Musk, Stephen Bartlett, and Hagley watches. Business brands need a distinct personality to succeed, using comedy, memes, and emotional storytelling to engage their audience. Personal brands allow flexibility and the ability to pivot to different niches while maintaining an engaged audience. Business brands worked well in the past, but new successful brands in recent years often have a strong personal brand attachment. High-ticket items are more likely to be purchased when associated with a personal brand, especially for services like training courses, agencies, and consultancies. Car influencers like CarWow and Doug DeMiro have more impact on consumer decisions than traditional car company advertising. Building a personal brand is crucial for securing sponsors, selling products, and establishing yourself as a leader in your industry. BEST MOMENTS "Business brands are dead. Nobody wants to buy from a nameless corporate entity." "People buy into you. Your story, your message. And that is so powerful." "If you're going to do a business brand, make it a business brand with a personality that's distinct and unique." "Personal brand will always outperform business brand." "Can you name a luxury brand that has become massive in the last five years that doesn't have a big personal brand attachment?" GUESTS: Andy Wilman, The Grand Tour; Scott Mansell, Driver61; Mat Watson, Carwow; Jack Carter, TikTokABOUT THIS EPISODEIn 2015, Top Gear was one of the most successful British television exports, YouTube seemed young and inexperienced, at just ten years old, and TikTok hadn't even been released.Seven years later, the media landscape looks very different, creating a new challenge for automakers and other providers of mobility: how can they best promote their products and grow or maintain brand awareness in the face of  today's rapidly-evolving media? What is the impact of alternative forms of mobility? And how do changes in vehicle technology affect marketing and promotion, as the roar of a combustion engine is replaced by the near-silent acceleration of an electric vehicle, and as the automakers turn their attention from the driver's car to the driverless car? This episode of Ride, produced in collaboration with Motor Industry Communicators Association (MICA), features Andy Wilman (The Grand Tour), Scott Mansell (Driver61), Mat Watson (Carwow), and Jack Carter (TikTok).ABOUT THE GUESTSAndy Wilman - Top Gear and The Grand Tour producer.  Andy boasts over 20 years' experience at the pinnacle of bringing automotive content to a mass audience, from re-launching Top Gear on BBC TV in 2002 to executive producing The Grand Tour for Amazon Prime.Mat Watson – the face of the Carwow YouTube channel - “the world's biggest automotive channel” - which has led in blending car entertainment and vehicle sales.Jack Carter – TikTok's automotive lead explains how the platform is bringing automotive content to life for younger (and, increasingly, also less young) audiences.Scott Mansell – motorsport content expert whose Driver61 YouTube channel has grown by 350,000 subscribers in a year and amassed 46,000,000 views.
