Jason talks with Steven Greenhut who is director of PRI's Journalism Center, which will be launched in January 2010 to provide in-depth news coverage of California government, with a focus on uncovering waste, fraud and misuse of taxpayer dollars. Previously, Greenhut was deputy editor and columnist for The Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif. He joined the Register's editorial page staff in 1998, after serving as editorial page editor of The Lima News, a daily newspaper in northwest Ohio. Both newspapers are owned by Irvine-based Freedom Communications. He is author of the 2004 book, “Abuse of Power: How the Government Misuses Eminent Domain.” His columns have been published in newspapers across the country including the Wall Street Journal. In 2005, Greenhut won the Institute for Justice's Thomas Paine Award for his writing promoting freedom. He is a senior fellow at the Goldwater Institute in Phoenix. His new book on public employee unions will be out in November. It is titled, “Plunder: How Public Employee Unions are Raiding Treasuries, Controlling our Lives and Bankrupting the Nation.” He graduated from George Washington University, is married and has three daughters.
