Phil and Josh have plenty to talk about on E230 of the GSP after the NASCAR tripleheader at Indy, IndyCar at Toronto and Formula 1 in Hungary. Larson jumps the last restart and through a technicality wins his first Brickyard 400. Phil goes after William Byron after he called Chase Briscoe a squirrel while fellow young guns John Hunter Nemechek and Carson Hocevar caused massive incidents of their own. Fuel mileage was the name of the game with YRB in position to win and sweep the season for Penske in the big races while former teammate Brad Keselowski tried to harken back to the old days with his fuel saving.  Riley Herbst drifted through Turn 4 on the final lap of the XFinity race to win for the second time in his career. Stewart-Haas had the best race cars at the track in the precursor to the Brickyard 400. Ty Majeski gets his first win of 2024 in the Truck Series and repeats at IRP while Corey Heim throws a *&^%$ fit at championship rival Christian Eckes. IndyCar saw Colton Herta destroy the field throughout the entire weekend at Toronto. Andretti Global took a 1-2 finish while Alex Palou started deep in the field and still finished fourth. A massive turn one wreck with ARCA brakes action destroyed multiple cars including the McLaren of Pato O'Ward and Root Beer Float Head. Speaking of McLaren, Oscar Piastri became a first-time winner in Formula 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix after plenty of assistance from the pit wall to convince teammate Lando Norris to move over after McLaren screwed up the strategy. Fish Lips was definitely in a mood after completing a sim race earlier that morning and lost out on the final podium place to Sir Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari wasn't as fast as the top three teams but salvaged their day along with poor qualifying efforts by Perez and Russell ending up with points.   The Roundup covers F2/F3, NHRA, WSBK, Supercars, WRC and Formula E before the guys preview the Belgian Grand Prix for Formula 1 and make their picks. Josh lets us know his exploits on iRacing and gaming in the Sim Segment before calling it a night.

Tonight on Trackside, we recap a thrilling and historic Indianapolis 500! Curt and Kevin give all the details on Josef Newgarden's second 500 win in a row, the last lap pass on Pato O'Ward, details you may have missed, and more! Kevin and Curt delve into the TV ratings, and what caused them to shoot up the way they did. They talk about the likelihood of moving the start time later, and how that wouldn't be a good idea, and how accurate weather predictions were the day before the race.  Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about how historically impressive it was for Josef to win two in a row, the first time since Helio Castroneves in 2002. They go over some historical stats to show how important the race was in the history of the 500, and how Newgarden is the first American to win back-to-back since Al Unser in 1970-71. They also hit on the fact that Dixon has led more Indy 500s than anyone.  To round out the first hour, Kevin talks about Stewart-Haas shutting the doors of their NASCAR team. They talk about what may happen to the drivers on the team, and if Haas plans on leaving F1 and if Andretti will buy the F1 team to get on the grid.  In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about if the race was one of the best ever. Regardless, the fans were entertained. They talk about the red flags during the race last year, and how this year felt more natural and proper as the last part of the race had a long green flag stint. They talk about IndyCar drivers competing in NASCAR races, and the likelihood of more of these cross overs in the future. They also answer listener questions about why the race was so competitive and talk about Sting Ray Robb's performance.  Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt talk about Kyle Larson, and how he believes he let everyone down. We hear about the tug of war between Larson's NASCAR team and his IndyCar team. Larson has not received his waiver, and if he will come back next year to race after this year's let down.  Kevin and Curt end the show going over what they missed and answering listener questions. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It feels good for Ryan Preece to hear himself be called a NASCAR Cup Series driver again. Preece shares what it was like to be out of sight and out of mind in 2022 as he worked behind the scenes at Stewart-Haas Racing; using the year to become a better person and driver; unique ways to build a bond with a team; what being a reserved driver is all about; there being no guarantee of a ride when signing with Stewart-Haas; if Preece went to bat for himself as '22 went on; the conversations had about his career; funding being the story of his career; if not having a straight upward path has any upside; falling in love with racing as a third generation driver; the sacrifices to race; being the one son (of three) who went into racing; why working on his race cars was the chosen way; how Preece's first national series start came together; what he thinks has been the defining moment of his NASCAR career.
