Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they talk about this past weekend's IndyCar doubleheader at the Iowa Speedway with Team Penske continuing their dominance, but it wasn't “The King of Corn Country”, Josef Newgarden, however his two teammates were victorious. Scott McLaughlin won the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 Saturday night for his first career oval win, while Will Power won the Hy-Vee One Step 250 Sunday night for his first win in Iowa. They talk about how the racing was subpar, especially for the new hybrid system, and how the crowd looked along with some revisions going throughout the speedway. They even talk about the crowd for the concerts from Luke Combs, Eric Church, Kelsea Ballerini, and Post Malone.   Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin talks to Curt about how he benefited from watching the race from pit exit at Iowa from the broadcast this past weekend. They also talk about the late TV channel change from the Saturday night to CNBC as the world reacted to the assassination attempt of former President, Donald Trump.  To wrap up the first hour of the program, Kevin talks about some stats from the Iowa Speedway, previews the second hour of the show, including the Brickyard weekend on the return to the oval for the NASCAR Cup Series, and more racing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.  To start the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt go through questions on Twitter, starting with how the Indy NXT Championship could play out, weather affecting the streets of Toronto, Hailie Deegan in the Indy NXT paddock, and more questions with the hybrid system.   Later in the second hour program, Kevin and Curt go through more Twitter questions, and talk more about Sting Ray Robb's massive crash from Iowa and that he was cleared to return to racing this weekend at Toronto. They also provide some little silly season updates from Alexander Rossi and more.   Then to wrap up another addition of the show, Kevin talks fast thoughts about Hunter McElrea making his debut this weekend in Toronto and Robert Wickens winning in the Michelin Pilot Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

An action packed weekend leads nicely into the GSP, with Phil and Josh talking about all the major stories of the weekend. Joey Logano did his best Scott Dixon impression while fading five GWC's and 30 extra laps to win the Cup race at Nashville and lock himself into the playoffs.  Logano blocked Chase Briscoe into the gray and left Tyler Reddick looking like Kurt Angle in his TNA Wrestling days. Tire fall off was minimal but rubber laid down on the track, with the rain delay making the race worthwhile. Briscoe was officially introduced as the driver of the Bass Pro Shops Toyota in the Cup Series earlier in the week.  On the XFinity side, John Hunter Nemechek led a JGR 1-2 finish with Keebler Gibbs and Cole Custer being the other standouts on a boiling hot day. Christian Eckes led every lap of the Truck Series race to build his case as the top contender over Corey Heim for the Truck Series title.  Formula 1 brought out an old story but with a different opponent at Austria.  Fish Lips proved once again that he cannot race wheel-to-wheel with someone who may be as fast or faster after moving more than Floyd Mayweather on his "friend" Lando Norris and knocking both of them out of contention.  Phil lets loose on FL since he and his team won't take any accountability.  He still finished fifth and got the fastest lap while Lando and McLaren chose to retire the car.  The drivers who picked up the scraps were Woody Russell for his second career win, Oscar Piastri who probably will wonder if his lap hadn't been deleted in qualifying along with Carlos Sainz the driver for Ferrari.  The GSP Roundup covers F2, F3, MotoGP, Moto2, NHRA and an update on John Force, Formula E and Robert Wickens getting behind the wheel of an open-wheel car for the first time since his accident at Pocono, WRC Rally Poland and sadness in the leadup, Supercars and Indy NXT before the guys come back to preview and make picks for the F1 British Grand Prix.  IndyCar comes back to start the hybrid era at Mid-Ohio and the insanity that is NASCAR on a street course returns in Chicago for Cup & XFinity.  Josh lets us know all things going on iRacing in his Sim Segment prior to the promotions.

Kevin talks about the reason why this driver change came about, and how long this has been in the works. The two talk about Prema Racing, and if Rossi will end up there, and who his teammates could be. They are also considering going to Rahal. Kevin talks about getting hired vs getting hired with a big check behind you.  Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about a funny tweet from Scott McLaughlin, and they go through every driver change at McLaren and why the drivers were changed. Kevin reads some tweets, and brings up some comments from drivers and fans about the move. They also talk about the possibility of Juri Vipps joining IndyCar.  To round out the first hour, Kevin previews things to come in the second hour of the show.  In the second hour of the show, Kevin talks about the upcoming race at Mid-Ohio and Ganassi's dominance at the track. They talk about the new hybrid engine, and how much of a difference it will make in terms of the racing itself. Kevin talks about how fuel mileage effects the new hybrids, and what will change about pit strategy. Kevin talks about the practicality of a hybrid, and how it is more appealing than all electric, and how electric cars are fading in popularity.  Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt head to the X Box to answer more listener questions, mostly about the hybrid engine and what listeners are wondering about it. They also talk about the possibility of IndyCar racing at the Glen with IMSA, and COTA with NASCAR. They talk about the temperature at Honda, and the possibility of Honda pulling out of IndyCar, or continuing with the series. They also talk about if Ed Carpenter's Team will get bought out by other charters due to lack of sponsorship.  Kevin ends the show talking about IMSA silly season, and driver free agency in IMSA. He also talks about Robert Wickens testing a Formula E car. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Being paralyzed from a horrific racing crash has not stopped the drive of Robert Wickens. The paraplegic racer shares his inspirational story with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis. His story is also unorthodox. How did he get into racing? The exposure came from television, NASCAR and a bootleg, sex-free version of Days of Thunder. Dale Jr. and Robert connect on the mutual bond of matchbox cars, which they both, as children, used to emulate the races they watched. The two racers laugh sharing memories of innovating their makeshift tracks. The passion grew and a decision to abandon stick-and-ball sports led Wickens to go-kart racing. From there, his career took off. He moved to the states and then to Europe chasing his dream. While in Europe he navigated the pathway up the motorsports ladder in various series of competition. It was a journey that took him from open-wheeled racecars to German touring cars with Mercedes. While in the Mercedes program, his path even crossed with Formula 1 great Michael Schumacher, who served as an advisor to the team. Wickens earned his FIA Super license and was a reserve driver for a Formula 1 team. He was under contract with an F1 organization but the opportunity was severed by a driver with a bigger checkbook. Wickens' return to North America came with an opportunity to race in the NTT Indycar Series fulltime with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. The rookie came out of the gate with authority capturing the pole at the ending of the qualifying session at the season opener at the St. Petersburg course in Florida. Wickens then led the majority of the race before controversial contact with two laps to go between he and his good friend Alexander Rossi. The incident took him out contention for the win. His Indycar progression was going well. Then August 19, 2018. Wickens lined up 6th for the 500-mile race at the tricky Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. The seventh lap would change Robert Wickens life forever. While battling Ryan Hunter-Reay, a crash sent his car into the catchfence violently at a speed of 210 mph. Wickens tries to recall the scattered memories he has of the day, that live in bits and pieces in his mind. The accident resulted in badly fractured legs, arms, hands, ribs, neck, a pulmonary contusion and thoracic spinal fracture. Robert Wickens survived the crash but was now faced with being a paraplegic. Wickens reveals what he knows about the time he spent in an induced coma and the struggle to just survive.. He then opens up about the pain he endured from his injuries, both physically and mentally, and the ripple effect its had on so many people in his life. His journey since the crash has been damn-near miraculous. Driven by a thirst for independence and a desire to return to racing, Robert Wickens fought through various levels of rehabilitation to get to his ultimate goal. That goal? Strapping in behind the wheel of a racecar. At first, E-Sports and iRacing were his proving grounds. Now, the next chapter has begun as Wickens is competing in IMSA's Pilot Series for Hyundai in a racecar with hand-controls. It's a journey that has inspired so many, including everyone in the room.   OPEN SEGMENT Before Wickens' arrival, Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals what it was like to be a part of the nomination panel, for the first time, at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Now, the next chapter has begun as Wickens is competing in IMSA's Pilot Series for Hyundai in a racecar with hand-controls.It's a journey that has inspired so many, including everyone in the room. OPEN SEGMENTBefore Wickens' arrival, Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals what it was like to be a part of the nomination panel, for the first time, at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The DJD then debates who they would select from that list to make it into the next class of the HOF. Who should be in the Hall and why? ASKJR Presented By Xfinity Hannah Newhouse picks the best fan questions from Twitter and the Dirty Mo Media live chat. We discuss: April fools and dirty pranks Danica Patrick catching the bouquet at Dale and Amy's wedding. The advantage of tape on the grille of your racecar after Kyle Busch's penalty. How the Next Gen car will do on dirt. How iRacing will get its hands dirty in the console game scene. Who built the table? However, soon after her baby was born, Karina was rushed to hospital with breathing issues. Due to the possible risk of exposure to COVID 19 at the hospital - Karina then had to self quarantine from her baby and husband for two weeks. We speak to Karina about what happened, how hard it was being separated from her daughter Paris and how good it felt to hold her baby for the first time after isolation. "I feel like my purpose in life is competing at a very high level" - in 2018 Robert Wickens was paralysed following an IndyCar crash. Recently he's been competing in the INDYCAR IRacing Challenge, a competitive series that uses simulators. He tells us he sees it as a step towards racing in IndyCar again and how he was determined to and managed to stand at his wedding last September. Anxiety in the A League - play in Australia's A League was suspended in March due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Since play was halted the Professional Footballers Australia say that 58% of players they surveyed have reported symptoms of anxiety while 45% have demonstrated symptoms of depression. There are also rumours the competition's broadcast partner is looking to pull out of their deal. A possible return date of August 1st has now been suggested but with all the uncertainty in the air Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young will join us to discuss the impact the situation is having on players mental health. Extreme E and more opportunities for women in Motorsport - This week a new all-electric off-road race series was launched. When it starts in 2021 each team will field one male and one female driver, meaning men and women will race against each other. Swedish racing driver Mikaela Kottulinsky is one of the few people to have driven the new SUV as she's been working as a test driver for the tyre manufacturer. She'll join us to talk about the new series, what it could mean for women in motorsport and her own background in racing. A lack of PPE means I'm wearing a Scuba Mask - Snooker referee Olivier Marteel is working as an a and e nurse in his native Belgium. He's a radiologist by trade but has answered the call to help on the front line in the fight against coronavirus. He tells us about working in the hospital, a lack of Personal Protective Equipment, and how he's watching old snooker matches to unwind. The long shot that changed a homeless caddie's life - 59 year old Llewellyn Barnes has been been homeless for most of his life and has supported himself by working as a caddie on the golf courses of South Africa. He's also battled substance abuse but last month he made his debut as a player in a professional golf tournament. We'll hear from Llewellyn and also speak to BBC Sport Africa's Celestine Karoney about his remarkable life story. That's Isolation - Former Tottenham midfielder and current Charlton Assistant Manager Johnnie Jackson has been writing and performing songs to fund-raise for cancer charities during the coronavirus lockdown. He'll join us to talk about his idea and he'll perform "That's Isolation", which is a play on the Jam song "That's Entertainment". Sporting Witness - This week we tell the emotional story of how a young girl in Pakistan fought for the right to take part in one of the country’s most popular sports. Ashley Byrne has been talking to Maria Toorpakai Wazir about how she disguised her gender - and risked her life - in order to play professional squash. Photo credit: Karina Leblanc (Getty Images)
