What if your biggest challenge isn't motivation but missing structure? In this episode, I sit down with Brian Johnson to unpack the science and philosophy of lasting behavior change. We explore the power of ancient wisdom, stoicism, and the neuroscience of excellence, and why most wellness apps fail to deliver real transformation.Brian shares his personal journey from startup success to creating a global movement around character, discipline, and identity-based habits. We talk about the science of anti-fragility, how muscle mirrors virtue, and why the gap between who you are and who you could be is the true source of suffering. Whether you're a high performer or someone who wants to stop breaking promises to yourself, this conversation will help you build the structure to show up as your best—no matter the circumstance. What You'll Learn:Why most behavior change fails—and what the science says worksThe philosophy of Areté: how to close the gap between potential and actionHow ancient stoicism aligns with modern recovery, resilience, and muscleWhy building muscle is a metaphor (and mechanism) for building characterThe true definition of anti-fragility—and how to train itIf you're ready to bridge the gap between knowing and doing, this episode is the roadmap you've been looking for. Who is Brian Johnson? Brian Johnson has spent half of the last 25 years as a Founder/CEO and the other half as a Philosopher. As a Founder/CEO, he's made crowdfunding history and built and sold two market-leading social platforms. As a Philosopher, he created Philosopher's Notes, wrote the bestselling book Areté: Activate Your Heroic Potential, and developed a protocol integrating ancient wisdom, modern science, and practical tools that has been scientifically proven to help people change their lives. Brian is featured in the documentary Finding Joe on the modern Hero's Journey and has trained some of the world's most elite performers. He lives in the country outside of Austin with his wife and two kids and is all in on fulfilling Heroic's mission to help create a more noble and virtuous world in which 51% of humanity is flourishing by 2051.This episode is brought to you by:LMNT- Free Sample Pack with any purchase, visit https://DrinkLMNT.com/DRLYONAG1 - FREE bottle of AG D3K2, an AG1 Welcome Kit + 5 travel packs with your first order – https://drinkAG1.com/DRLYONOneSkin - Use Code DRLYON for 15% off OneSkin – https:// www.oneskin.coTimeline - 20% off your order of Mitopure visit https://timeline.com/LYONFind Brian Johnson at:Learn more about Brian Johnson and Heroic and get some free content just for my listeners: heroic.us/drlyon Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@heroicbrianInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/heroicbrian/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/heroicbrian/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/heroicbrian/YouTube:

Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 730 Could your DNA hold a hidden superpower that's just waiting to be activated by light? Brian Richards, Founder of SaunaSpace, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 730, to uncover how near-infrared saunas can help cleanse toxins, support brain function, and even raise your vibrational frequency, and why embracing your innate power to heal is the ultimate path to true freedom. "One of the effects of photobiomodulation is to correct gene transcription = how the DNA is read. The DNA and the epigenetics are being fixed in a much more powerful way with the near-infrared light than they're being damaged by the ultraviolet component of the sunlight. But indoors, we only use damaging light. There's none of the healing light anymore. So to bring ourselves back into balance, we need to get a lot more near-infrared light. And the incandescent bulb uniquely presents itself as a way to do that." - Brian Richards 10% Off SaunaSpace ThermaLight® technology combines the finest tungsten filaments, mouth-blown red-stained glass, and years of engineering to produce a full-spectrum infrared light that mimics the best of nature. Benefits: Compact and portable, hypoallergenic, tool-free assembly, wheelchair accessible, machine-washable cover, minimalist design, ZERO EMFs. All saunas have the same goal: to raise your core body temperature enough to jump-start its natural healing processes. Traditional saunas use steam, fire, or electric heaters to make the air in the sauna hot, which eventually heats up your body from the outside in. Infrared saunas tap into the science of light to help you sweat faster and more comfortably. Leave Wellness + Wisdom a Review on Apple Podcasts Power Quotes From The Show Near-Infrared Light Can Heal Traumatic Brain Injuries "When you have a TBI, you have damage to your nerve cells and your nervous system. The near-infrared light goes into the mitochondria in the brain cells and it promotes regeneration, healing, inflammation reduction, and also anti aging. It corrects the function of the cell itself by helping to re-establish connections and repair the interworking of all the cells together collectively." - Brian Richards We Lack Sunlight "The average American gets five to seven minutes of sunlight a day, just going out to the car on the way to work. We're really deprived of the things that keep us resilient and also allow us to be high frequency and multi-dimensional." - Brian Richards Light Brings Your Back Into Yourself "Light opens us up and brings us back into ourselves. When you go into the SaunaSpace, your thoughts just kind of melts, and you you get grounded back into yourself. It becomes a very transcendental experience. It's not just about healing, it's very meditative." - Brian Richards Links From Today's Show  Brian Richards SaunaSpace - 10% off Sauna Space with code "JOSH10" 525 Red Light Therapy For Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) | Brian Richards The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz Be Here Now by Ram Dass Dr. Steven Young Samuel B. Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 670 How does photon consciousness elevate human awareness? Brian Richards, Founder of SaunaSpace, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 670, to share why he finds inspiration in ancient teachings, how near-infrared light improves our health and increases our awareness, why we're beings of light, and how photobiomodulation corrects DNA. "The light reminds us that we create our own light. We're much more electromagnetic and quantum than we are chemical or biological. The knowledge we had of ourselves, energy work, and internal alchemy is something so profound that we're just beginning to circle back and remember now." - Brian Richards 10% Off SaunaSpace ThermaLight® technology combines the finest tungsten filaments, mouth-blown red-stained glass, and years of engineering to produce a full-spectrum infrared light that mimics the best of nature.

Of je nu kijkt naar Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, of Harry Potter. What do Vidal Sassoon, magic & our world have to do with each other? Well, as it turns out...a lot! My guest this week, Rev. Brig Feltus regales me with story after story, some whimsical and some heartbreaking, but rest assured that each has it's own power in it's own right. I urge you to listen to the longer interview this week because as far as my podcast goes, this episode might be one of my best! Rev. Brig is a force for change and upliftment-not only for herself and her community, but the world at large! She is changing hearts and minds at her ReMember Institute where the tagline is "Heal Yourself, Heal the World," as well as at The Intersection, which self describes as "a movement that educates and entertains with the intent to empower, enlighten, and inspire mankind through the collaboration of art, science, spirituality, and technology." Be sure to check both out when you have the time. Our conversation was so dynamic and kind, so monumental in it's power yet gentle, that I wish every guest could be so wise and compassionate! Rev. Brig is definitely one of a kind, though, because she is tireless in her faith that we will all RISE someday! Here is your bit of beauty for this episode-we talk about the Hero's Journey during the pod and this movie is an essential and wonderful tool to add to your toolbox of the SELF. "Finding Joe" changed my life, and perhaps it will yours as well! REMEMBER TO RATE AND REVIEW MY FRIENDS~ and see you so very soon!!

Patrick is the mastermind behind the celebrated film Finding Joe.Finding Joe is an exploration of famed Mythologist Joseph Campbell's studies and their continuing impact on our culture. Through interviews with visionaries from a variety of fields interwoven with enactments of classic tales by a sweet and motley group of kids, the film navigates the stages of what Campbell dubbed The Hero's Journey: the challenges, the fears, the dragons, the battles, and the return home as a changed person."WE MUST BE WILLING TO GET RID OF THE LIFE WE'VE PLANNED SO AS TO HAVE THE LIFE THAT IS WAITING FOR US" - JOSEPH CAMPBELLRooted in deeply personal accounts and timeless stories, Finding Joe shows how Campbell's work is relevant and essential in today's world and how it provides a narrative for how to live a fully realized life-or as Campbell would simply state, how to "follow your bliss".I saw Finding Joe years ago and it just blew me away. This is why I was so excited to include the film in the IFHTV Streaming Service. Patrick and I sit down and discuss his film, his distribution journey, and how he used the Filmtrepreneur method to squeeze every drop of revenue out of the film.Enjoy my conversation with Patrick Solomon.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Craig Lithgow told me about this movie called "Finding Joe" which is based off of the life and teachings of Joseph Campbell and what he calls the hero's journey. So we watched the movie together when we were in Australia and I loved it. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the first scene. It was about this golden budah. Thought I would share some of the thoughts I had about it.

In 2020, Harrison Biehl bought his first mountain bike and immediately put his mind in the track, progressively doing bigger and bigger rides. In summer 2022, he successfully completed his first “Everesting” mission - repeating the same climb until reaching 29,032 feet of elevation gain. As a fundraiser for TAMBA, Harrison tackled Stanford Rock trail on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and completed the mission in under 24 hours. In the afterglow, tragedy struck when his close friend Joe Fazzio took his own life a week before Christmas. To honor Joe's life and bring awareness to mental health, Harrison partnered with High Fives Foundation and launched the Pedal for Positivity. His new mission; “Trench to Everest” - climbing 65,099 feet - the elevation difference between the lowest point on earth, the Marianas Trench, to the highest, Mount Everest. Harrison did the ride on Old Highway 40 from Donner Lake to Historic Donner Summit on September 8-9 with a group of friends who rode by his side, completing nearly 60 laps in 29 hours. Recorded on Donner Summit at the site of the event, this is a heavy story of friendship, community, commitment, struggle and loss. 3:30 – During the latest brown pow cycle, Tom crashes his mountain bike hard.6:40 – Steven Kotler – Gnar Country – learning to become a park skier at age 53. 9:40 – Introducing Harrison Biehl – Everesting Stanford Rock, trenching Old Highway 40.13:30 – Another sign of a big winter coming – crazy squirrels. Meet Alan Cohen Alan Cohen, M.A., is the author of 30 popular inspirational books, including the best-selling A Course in Miracles Made Easy, the award-winning A Deep Breath of Life, and the classic Are You as Happy as Your Dog? He is a contributing writer for the New York Times #1 bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soul, and his books have been translated into 32 foreign languages. His work has been featured on Oprah.com, in USA Today, The Washington Post, and 101 Top Experts. He is a featured presenter in the award-winning documentary Finding Joe, illuminating the teachings of renowned mythologist Joseph Campbell.    A Course In Miracles Made Easy (or Easier) Alan's book A Course In Miracles Made Easy was one of the more powerful books I've read in that he explains the deep meaning and lessons of the course. In this interview, we got to the heart of why this channeled work has transformed millions of lives. Because so many wise words were shared in this conversation, I will share my favorites with you below. A suggestion is to start with A Course In Miracles workbook and take it one page (and day) at a time.    Favorite takeaways: There is only one lesson, and that is that everything is a choice between love and fear. Ask yourself, then, what would the voice of love say here?  A miracle is a shift in perspective. Even a little willingness can start a miracle.  The spirit within me loves to hear the truth about itself. We are meant to be happy and are always worthy. We live in a world of illusion. The world we live in is a construct of false ideals, and I'm affected only by my thoughts. The power of love is the healing force in the Universe. When you feel stuck or in fear, ask: "Please help me see this differently!" Anger is fear under pressure. All negative emotions (jealousy, depression, despair, anger, etc.) are connected to fear. To get to the root level, ask yourself, "What's under the anger?" Fear is never justified in any form. Fear is not real. When afraid, you are responding to some illusion. If I trust, fear can't survive.   Trust is the bedrock and our greatest teacher.    And lastly, I loved this one as well --- "Fear knocked at the door, faith answered and no one answered."   The Spirit and The Ego May you remember to decipher your spirit vs ego voice. Do this by asking yourself: What does the voice of fear/ego say? What does the voice of love say? Notice which feels better, and you will soon see how powerful the voice of love is. There is nothing you can do not to be loved by God. You are perfect, divine and always loved.     Looking To Help Others Know Who They Are and Design Their Best Life? Stay in the Ring and Let's Go!   In our last +1, we spent some time riding appropriately big waves and reminded ourselves that, when we're wisely surfing the beautiful oceans of life, we remember to ENJOY the waves.    Today we're going to bring my all-time favorite teacher (Epictetus!) back to the party to hear his take on the subject.    But…    Before we go there…   Let's pause for a moment and think about the great big-wave surfer, Laird Hamilton.    The guy is obsessed about finding THE BIGGEST POSSIBLE WAVES HE CAN FIND!    Why?   Because that's how he knows he can see what he's made of and HAVE THE MOST FUN!!   Crazy?   Of course.    And that's how he is fulfilling his idiosyncratic, Heroic destiny and inspiring all of us to do the same in our own unique ways as well.    Side note: Have you seen Finding Joe yet? Laird tells his story in it. Along with Tony Hawk. They talk about all the FEAR they felt pursuing their big, hairy, audacious dreams. Watch the trailer here. Full movie for free here.    Now…   Let's talk about the ancient Stoic philosopher, Epictetus.    Epictetus was a former slave who taught the guys who taught Marcus Aurelius.    Every morning, I invite his presence into my consciousness during my AM Heroic meditation.    Every morning, he tells me pretty much the same thing: “Practice your philosophy and remember the choice of Hercules!”   As we've discussed, Hercules was one of the ancient Greek and Stoic philosophers' favorite heroes. They liked to tell the story about Hercules BEFORE he was Hercules. We talk about it in our Notes on How to Think Like a Roman Emperor and this +1 on The Choice of Hercules.   The quick recap.    Young pre-Heroic Hercules is walking in a forest. He comes to a fork in the road, at which point two goddesses approach him.    One goddess rushes ahead of the other. She's overly made up and preening a bit as she tells him that, if he follows her, his life will be easy and awesome. She says her name is “Happiness” but she's lying. Her name is really “Vice.”   The second goddess waits patiently then steps forward. She has a stern yet beautiful countenance and tells Hercules that if follows HER, his life will be full of pain and challenges AND… as he strives to overcome those challenges in service to something bigger than himself, he will earn the respect and admiration of the gods. Her name? Areté.    Hercules, of course, chose wisely.    Epictetus reminds me (EVERY MORNING!) that I need to make that Choice of Hercules EVERY DAY—especially TODAY.    A noble life worthy of the respect and admiration of the gods (and ourselves!) is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY.    Those challenges we face? Those are the waves that give us a chance to flourish.    Epictetus often reminds me of another thing.     He tells me that, if I complain about the inevitable challenges of life, then I'm kinda like the boxer who enters the ring only to walk out the moment he gets punched in the face.    That, of course, would make NO SENSE.    What did the boxer expect? To do yin yoga with his opponent?     Let's quote the ancient Stoic sage directly here because it's so good.    He tells us: “But what is philosophy? Doesn't it simply mean preparing ourselves for what may come? Don't you understand that really amounts to saying that if I would so prepare myself to endure, then let anything happen that will? Otherwise, it would be like the boxer exiting the ring because he took some punches. Actually, you can leave the ring without consequence, but what advantage would come from abandoning the pursuit of wisdom? So, what should each of us say to every trial we face? This is what I've trained for, for this my discipline!”   I repeat: IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE CHALLENGING.    And…   Yet…   I repeat: When we approach our inevitable challenges with the right mindset and consistent practices, life eventually becomes a LOT “easier” and those waves and punches become a joyful part of the Heroic, eudaimonic, noble, well-lived life.    Let's remember that Today as we paddle out to our waves and step into the arena that is our lives.    Love ya. Let's go!!!   P.S. Speaking of stepping into the arena, check out this +1 on The Optimizer in the Arena for some old-school Teddy Roosevelt wisdom!   +1 +1 +1   +1 +1 +1

Howdy, you BEAUTIFUL SOUL!!!Two ChipChat Episodes in one week?!!Yes, I promised that--and I delivered that to you.My friend, today we're talking all about the concept of The Hero's Journey and specifically YOUR Hero's Journey. It's a concept coined by a magnificent human being named Joseph Campbell, and it's the story thread that runs through all great tales of humankind. It's the Call to Adventure, the Mentor, the Facing of the Dragon, and the Return with the Treasure. And more importantly than that, it's a way to think of our own lives. Here is an article I wrote all about The Hero's Journey to better understand it. "This Concept Alone Determines a Great Life..." by (ahem) Chip Franks. And HERE is the MOVIE about The Hero's Journey written, directed, and produced by Patrick Solomon...MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER (often playing on my laptop while I do work on it)...FINDING JOE!In this solo Chip-isode, we talk about how I discovered The Hero's Journey, what it is, a little about my current Hero's Journey and the serendipitous way in how that came about--which involved this very podcast and my conversation with amazing human and billionaire Naveen Jain. What I didn't mention in this podcast is that the school I'm starting, The Imagine Academy was named due to that being Naveen's favorite word, "IMAGINE."There are so many possibilities with that word!It evokes hope, dreams, innovation, ways to make things BETTER for us all. Then we talk about YOU, and YOUR Hero's Journey...which is the most important thing.  I'd love for this ChipChat to get you to think of your OWN life and the Hero's Journey that you may be on now--or that you may want to search for.The suggested exercises for this are to:Watch Finding Joe.Read the Article.(optional) Order and listen to "The Power of Myth" by Joseph Campbell and Bill MoyersHere are two questions I'd recommend to help find the Call to Adventure for your own Hero's Journey...write these out in a journal and spend some of the very best time you ever could in thinking about these:1. What did you want to be as a child? There are probably some clues there for your Hero's Journey.and2. What would you do if you had a billion dollars in the bank and didn't need to concern yourself with money?Think about those, and let me know what you're doing with your Hero's Journey! As always, I welcome all feedback at c@chipfranks.comYOU ARE LOVED AND DESERVING!Chip ❤️

In this episode we elaborate on just how exotic a cocktail we are. Light and dark. It's our nature to have this dualistic blend. We can't help it. Question is, “How do we treat the dark?” Let's go into the grey together and see what happens! And, as always, our conversation is roguish, as we wove in our core values, and we'll share a mystic MacNugget. Off we go into the shadowlands… Hey Stu… “Namaste, all of you beautifully, exotic cocktails… Comment on Facebook, email us, we want to more of these stories! THE SETUP: LEARN TO LOVE YOUR DREAMS MORE THAN YOUR DEMONS· Angel/devil, Gollum/Smeagol, yin/yang (somewhat) Loving both, just not to the same degree. Identify both. What are your demons and what are your dreams? Stop fighting the demons, you just give it focus and energy. We need the demons to appreciate the dreams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8nFACrLxr0andlist=PLhlqnzztlm9PLOQO2feVJ0YHg-hirxn3M (Link to) the Finding Joe documentary. White and black, as the seasons of our life change. The ultimate goal is to love more light into our lives that will displace more and more of the dark. It will never be eliminated. ACTION STEPS Practice thankfulness Dwell on the good. Set positive intentions. Learn to love the whole you. Be kind to yourself. Cast your vision and dreams with others. We want to feel that connection with each other, that aliveness, that excitement, that sense of well being. It is an emotional, physical and spiritual connection. It is what we feel when we first come together with someone and “fall in love." Conflict is the motivating force for healing and growth in relationships. The conflicts are your greatest teachers. By design they are the very irritant that forms the pearl of your growth within and between. In any conflict, there are multiple dimensions occurring simultaneously. No one dimension can explain the entire conflict, so that is where I come in to help you interpret and have a deeper meaning and understanding. I believe the conflict couples experience after the “honeymoon period” of their relationship is actually necessary. Conflict points out where we don’t get our needs met. Unmet needs create a breakdown in connection, destroying passion and intimacy. Many couples don’t navigate this “power struggle” phase successfully and eventually break up or settle for a less than satisfying relationship. “To heal the war in the the world we have to heal the war between the sexes. To heal the war between the sexes we have the heal the war within ourselves. "Raging against the dying of the light!" Volatile couples are often passionate couples. "We love each other and have a good relationship, why we do end up in the same hurtful arguments?" The passion in your relationship is energizing but can also turn into fights accompanied by extreme anger. Often this results in one person withdrawing and both left feeling hurt and misunderstood. I help couples turn volatility into versatility. Volatility is explosive energy; versatility means having choices and tools to use at the right moment while keeping healthy passion alive. My couples are people who have strong relationships but need help breaking patterns that continue having them slip into a vicious cycle and vortex. Some couples come committed to having their relationship thrive, others come with the intention of working out a divorce that is collaborative and respectful and includes a co-parenting plan that works for the whole family. I also work with couples to create and implement a healthy post-divorce family life. When couples disagree, most repeat the following disruptive pattern: blame, criticize, defend, express contempt, distance, and emotionally or physically withdraw. Distress is not about how many fights you have or even if you resolve the fights. Distress is about how you fight, and whether you can retain some sort of emotional connection after the fight. While traditional types of marital counseling tend to be open-ended and seek to solve immediate problems, such as continual arguing, by focusing primarily on behavior change and communication skills, my approach hones in on increasing a couple's appreciation for how each partner feels in order to build trust and a secure base they can each rely on. In this approach, couples learn to recognize the negative (vicious) cycle and pattern 'complain-defend-complain-defe nd-complain-defend' they are stuck in, where one person criticizes and the other responds defensively or withdraws. Couples learn to identify the needs and fears that keep them in that cycle. They learn to identify and express their underlying emotions. Partners learn to empathize with each other and become more supportive of each other. Partners come together through the emotional needs they are each expressing, and can begin to comfort each other's needs. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rebootyourrelationship/message

In Fireside Chat No. 8, Lacy Frazer and Marie Mohler discuss the film, Finding Joe (by Patrick Solomon) as it relates to the Journey of Personal Transformation. In this fireside chat, Lacy and Marie talk about the overarching themes of "the hero's journey" that Joseph Campbell identified and explored so deeply ~ so that so many of us could learn the deeper skills for living a truly alive, truly meaningful, and truly authentic and inspired life. There are additional speakers and experts in the fields of mindfulness, mythology, and the work of Joseph Campbell sprinkled throughout the film, to illustrate the stages of the hero's journey in profoundly inspiring ways. Lastly, there are child actors that illustrate the story of the Golden Buddha told in this film . . . and that illustrate a knight's journey to slay a deep dragon . . . where the dragon is actually our ego or conditioned selves. There are so many incredible take-aways in this film, and so many ahas for the soul . . . that affirm the greater context of WHY we make these journeys in the first place and that can offer a bigger context for the GEMS in the JOURNEYS of our lives . . . including our challenges and biggest obstacles. Marie and Lacy are huge fans of this film, for the incredible role it plays in highlighting, outlining, and illustrating the hero's journey for us all . . . that we ALL make en route to rediscovering the Golden Buddha inside ourselves. We will include the link below to watch the trailer and to learn how to access the complete film directly through the "Finding Joe" website. This is a great podcast for anyone exploring change, facing a formidable obstacle or challenge, rising into something new, or seeking to heal some aspects and patterns in their life that previously seemed unmanageable or insurmountable. There are inner resources that these journeys are calling out in all of us, that can only be acquired by the lived experience of facing our greatest fears and rising into a higher and brighter version of ourselves in our lives today. Finding Joe is a fantastic film and inspirational depiction of Joseph Campbell's work and the timeless "hero's journeys" that we all make to rediscover more of who we truly are! Today's episode was the first episode of our new way forward with the #GetMerry podcast! Yes, there was some kind of structure BUT we've already got bigger and better ideas coming your way! So keep listening YAH!  The #GetMerry podcast is all about inspiring you to live a healthier and happier life. It's a weekly podcast (like a radio show) where we'll be sharing EVERYTHING. Our new favourite part has got to be the Merry fan question section (maybe we need to re-work that title!). But this is where we need your help!  We need you to submit questions! Then we'll answer them on the show. The best bit... if your question gets answered on the show, you win a prize-y!  If you're located in Aussie Land, you'll win a set of our brand new (not released yet) Merrymaker quote cards! If you're from over the seas you'll get a collection of our delish Merrymaker PDF meal plans!  So be sure to listen to this episode and then submit your questions! Email us at hello@getmerry.com! YAY! Remember, you can SUBSCRIBE on iTunes or Stitcher and if you LOVE the episode, give us a 5 star rating and write us a merry-filled review!  During the episode, we start with Merrymaker News. It's a great transition from #MerryBiz to #GetMerry as we take you through everything we're working on. We also take you through all the lessons we've picked up on during the week. We talk happiness, mindset shifts and life in general. Pretty sure we even get on the whole what is the meaning of life? topic (oh oh, haha). Yes, we ramble, yes we laugh and yes it's a whole lotta MERRY! So if you're looking for a dose of something magical each week, #GetMerry is the show for you! It's the perfect show to listen to if you want to start adding more positivity into your life. We also end each episode with a Merrymaker Mantra. And this week's is: Follow your freaking bliss. You've heard us bang on about this before. Yah?!  It's an adapted mantra by the philosopher, Joseph Campbell. And it's all kinds of magical epic. "Follow your bliss and doors will open where there were once only walls." Holy shit that quote changed our lives forever and ever. We first heard it when we watched the documentary, Finding Joe. Seriously, that is compulsory watching for anyone reading this. You will love it. But first, finish this and listen to the podcast! When we started Merrymakers, there was no strategy, no business in mind, no nothing really. We just had this something telling us to start writing and creating recipes. So we did! We were having so much fun doing it, so we did more of it. And we learned about blogging. And social media. And newsletters. Oh my! Then we watched Finding Joe. And then we realised that Merrymakers... well, that was our bliss. And this whole Follow Your Bliss concept was pretty freaking epic. And apparently revolutionary to us (even though it was all over the internet!) and so we started sharing this message out to our Instagram followers. We'd share it once a day, almost. Follow your bliss. Do what you love! Follow the fun! All the inspirational quotes you can think of. And do not scoff... we know you love them too! At this time we were still working in our full-time soul-sucking government desk jobs, seriously we need a shorter name to describe it. But the message was loud and clear. Merrymakers was our bliss and if we followed it, if we kept going, opportunities would flow right on in. It turned into the perfect kick up the butt too. We'd been sharing the quotes, inspiring others to do what they love, but here we were still working those soul-sucking jobs and not REALLY following our bliss. Not really living our truth. We were good at speaking the speak but... doing the do? We weren't there yet. So the quitting of our jobs came about just 1 and a half years into our Merrymaker journey with no plan, no strategy, no money and a fat mortgage and USA trip booked in!  What were we thinking? We weren't! But Joseph Campbell said that if we followed it... doors would open. (Yes, we're a bit cray cray). Oh and that they did! The day we quit our jobs, a sponsorship... In order to mentally grow and get rid of old software, we can build one skill after another to improve our mindset. We can learn to become antifragile to negative thoughts. We can end negative thinking  about ourselves by not fighting it, but by learning and growing from our life experiences. If you attack negative thoughts, they will only grow stronger.   Power Quotes From Tom "Once you realize that you can do anything that you set your mind to, how you spend your time becomes a spiritual consideration." - Tom Bilyeu  "Wellness is really a 360 degree endeavor. It's not just the body, it's the mind as well." - Tom Bilyeu on wellness "By letting an idea capture your attention, really focusing on it, going deep, and asking how is this usable and then putting it to use in your life and taking those steps to act on the things that you learn; you get a sense of this self reinforcing cycle." - Tom Bilyeu on how we can get excited about an idea. "Stop worrying about being a champion and start worrying about becoming capable of the championship performance. Because that's totally different. That's about grinding it out and earning skills through hard work, actually becoming good, and becoming capable of the extraordinary."  - Tom Bilyeu on how acquiring a skill set can make us unstoppable "The big breakthrough in my life was the day I stopped thinking of myself as smart because I wasn't and I started thinking of myself as a learner."  - Tom Bilyeu on how he defeated negative thinking and stopped comparing himself to other people.
