I know I'm a day late, but I swear I'm not a dollar short! This episode of Podcasting Is the New Kink! is the first solo episode I've done in a while. It will be a recap of all the interviews this season, and I'm going to share my favorite moments and lessons.Season 6 started off with the relationship experts, the Black love gurus, if you will. The first interview was with the Amazing Clarks, Anthony and Melanie. Their relationship is goals! They talked about spirituality outside of religion, trading gifts with your partner, the importance of vulnerability, and so much more. One of my favorite lessons was the one about fighting to grow instead of fighting to win! Melanie talked about making your partner a loser when you fight to win. And how do you think you will treat a loser? The next interview was with Bee and Dee Hendershot, of the Truth and Coffee Time Podcast. Let me tell you right now, most of my laughter is usually edited out, but I was laughing so much during this interview that it just wasn't an option. They are hilarious! We talked about being a Black and white couple in the south, bringing baggage into your relationship, the importance and levels of honest and transparency, and more. We also talked about giving your partner grace and space. It seems like such a simple task, but it isn't always easy. When you are in the heat of things you want to solve problems right then and there. But that isn't always possible and pushing isn't always productive. The last expert interview was the craziest! Lol. Snooks and Lovey Cason are Married Into Crazy and in this episode they share the wild introduction to their love story. We talk about overcoming adversity and bouncing back stronger, the role of God in their relationship, the importance of respect and much more. They even made CRAZY an acronym standing for compassionate, real, accountable, zealous, and yielding - pillars to build your relationship on.I learned so much from these experts, but I also learned from the newbies. And I definitely enjoyed the conversations. My sister-cousin Amber and her boo Dre talked about the importance of really getting to know your partner instead of chasing titles. My bestest friend Nay and her fiance David shared their experience with therapy and how it propelled them to the next level in their relationship. And my brother Vee and his wife Teah describe how they manifested their marriage by walking the walk and using the power of partnership.I thought the last episode would be the last episode, but the I felt like this season deserved a recap because it was full of gems! I'm grateful to everyone who participated and to you the audience for listening. Thank you for making this season as awesome as it was. In this talk, given at Beginner's Mind Temple, Teah Strozer reminds us everyone is enough — you, yourself, are perfect just as you are, even if, as Shunryu Suzuki Roshi said, we can also ‘use a little improvement.' In the talk, Teah shares stories about dependent arising and its relevance for today. She highlights the importance of not making divisions — not creating ideas of separate self and others — especially as the world deals with continued armed conflicts and political divisions.
So how do you know if your relationship is on the right track? If you've listened to all of the episodes in part 6 of Podcasting Is the New Kink!, then you've heard a few themes that echoed throughout. Role fluidity, authenticity, respect, grace, honest and transparency, and communication were some of the many.Role fluidity is about letting go of traditional gender norms and playing to your strengths. Like, when the Amazing Clarks had their newborn baby and Anthony decided to stay home while Melanie went back to work. They talk about this in episode 32, the first part of their interview.Authenticity means being yourself. Your full self! And choosing a partner that encourages you to do that. You want a partner that helps you grow, not shrink! In episode 40, Teah talks about how Vee does that for her.Respect is the first step in every relationship, but especially an intimate partnership. Well it should be, anyway. How can you love someone you don't respect? Nay and David talk about the importance of respect in their relationship in episode 39.Grace is something that many people don't think about when it comes to intimate partnerships but it is very necessary. People mess up and sometimes our partners need us to be a little kinder. Dee and Bee Hendershot talk about how they give each other "grace and space" in episode 35, the second part of their interview.Honesty and Transparency go hand in hand. In episode 37, the second part of their interview, Snooks and Lovey talk about being real! Not using realness as a weapon, but as a tool. One you can especially use in conflict resolution. Communication is the most important part! None of these concepts mean anything if you don't tell your partner. In episode 38, with Bamber and Dre, we talk about how people are so quick to chase a title that they don't take the time to get to know each other. And, that's why half of marriages fail.In this episode of Podcasting Is the New Kink!, my partner is back. I introduced him in episode 17, so check it out if you're interested in how we met and details about us. Today we're talking about these 6 topics. We define them and discuss what they mean to us.We talk:Role fluidity - 1:29Authenticity - 9:21Respect - 16:21Honesty and Transparency - 24:59Grace - 29:08And communication - 33:24 Do you love Podcasting Is the New Kink! and want to support us? The word "manifest" has become hella overused. These days many people use it to describe a magic process where you speak the things you want into the universe and those things just find their way to you. But, we know that that isn't how manifestation actually works, right? You still have to put in the work. You have to put yourself in a position to receive and you have to walk the walk, as if you already have the things you are asking for.In this episode of Podcasting Is the New Kink!, I share a great example of manifesting the marriage you want, with one of my best friends Vee, and his wife Teah.We talk:Managing your expectations - 10:45Parenting teenagers - 20:16How they manifested their relationship - 31:00The power of partnership - 40:28Advice for couples - 54:25ReferencesPodcasting Is the New Kink!: Review of HBO's Lovecraft Country, episode 11 and episode 12Podcasting Is the New Kink!: Relationship Interviews, episode 36 and episode 37 Do you love Podcasting Is the New Kink! and want to support us? Teah Vennes is an incoming sophomore at Shields Valley High School in Clyde Park, Montana and the newest of a Montana Ranching legacy that goes back to 1863! Her ranch lies in a beautiful area to the east of the Bridger Mountains that I used to frequent when I was a student at Montana State University. Teah is very involved in ranching, horses and cattle, but so much more. In today's interview what really stood out is the relationship between the 4H and FFA. They are not the same, and you don't need one to do the other. However, the 4H certainly acts as a gateway into the FFA with similar activities such as livestock exhibitions. With Teah being a 9th Grader at the time that I interviewed her, she is right in the midst of this transition. She has been very active in the 4H, as well as the Girl Scouts, with some interesting projects that sparked ideas that she is carrying forward into the FFA. One of those is raising rabbits and taking them to more municipal areas of Montana to give 4H, and now FFA, students ideas about how they can raise livestock even if they live in town. The rabbits are also a great way to spark a conversation about agriculture, giving Teach the opportunity to dispel some myths about where our food comes from. Teah has her eye on becoming a Montana State Officer in the future, and I think this is a great start. But, as we learned in the episode, for right now she is concentrating on getting her driver's license as she was headed to driver's training as we finished this episode.
Teah Renzi is an actress who works mostly in musical theatre. She was a Jimmy Award nominee when she played Eponine in a production of Les Miserables back in 2018. Renzi was cast as an understudy in productions of 25th Annual Puntam County Spelling Bee and Noises Off. Other shows Renzi protrayed principal roles in include A Little Night Music and Metamorphoses. Most recently, Renzi got to live out one of her childhood dreams of playing a Disney Princess for the first time on stage. She got to play Ariel in the Lexington Opera House production of The Little Mermaid. This was a total career highlight for her since Renzi has been a fan of the Disney Princesses ever since she was little and she got to pay homage to her childhood self when playing this with this character and show. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jayme-starr/support

How do we live in this world? From where do we respond? Are we in touch enough with the place of the heart so that we can speak to a roommate that is difficult for us from a place of openness, from a place from where we don't disconnect?

Aloha! My name is Kauiokalani Kauh, or I go by Kaui Kauhi. Born and raised in Waimānalo Hawaiian homestead. I'm married to my intermediate 7th grade sweetheart Kahealani Kauhi and we have 3 beautiful children Teah, Tanaiah, and Tanoah Kauhi. Growing up for me was very hard. My grandmother raised all of her grandchildren which was over 20 of us in a 3 bedroom 1 bath. Barely passing elementary, intermediate & high school. I was also in special ed. After graduating from high school, I turned to be a professional athlete in boogie boarding and won state and national titles. After doing that for some years I went on to do some modeling, acting & stunt work for Hollywood. Starting my entrepreneurship about 10 years ago and now owning a couple companies Just to name a few Aloha Alkaline & Waikoko coconut water. I love the Beverage industry. My biggest accomplishment out of everything is my Kaui Kauhi Malama Keiki event that has been going on for over 15 years in my community and my school supplies give back. I also have a fouroneboxing troubled youth program in the Waimanalo homestead that just started 8 months ago. Our path is tiptoeing, falling in —sometimes drowning in— our own created fire.

We trip, we fall, and we look to see what did we just trip over. What was the cause of the mistake? We try to learn from what just happened. That is the most important thing. We are not about being perfect. We are about being awake.

Everyone is doing their best, even when we make terrible mistakes. I think that people who do things that are cruel and senseless, the conditioning that they had to endure in order to do those kinds of things is tragic. Not to say that they are not responsible. They are responsible. But there are reasons.

This essence, this emptiness, this vast nothingness – somehow or another there is awareness there. And somehow or another when this awareness comes into form it functions as love. It walks in the world as love. And to me that is what our path is about.
