The PACE Turf growth potential equation has one variable (the actual air temperature) and two constants. The constants are optimum air temperature and a term for variance that controls the shape of the curve as the actual temperature moves away from the optimum temperature. It's a little more complicated than that, because the constants change depending on whether you are making the calculation for cool-season grass, warm-season grass, and on whether you are using the Fahrenheit temperature scale or the Celsius temperature scale.The blog post discussed is https://www.asianturfgrass.com/post/calculating-gp/PACE Turf climate appraisal forms at: https://www.paceturf.org/journal/climateMore about GP and the variance term at https://www.asianturfgrass.com/post/what-is-variance-in-growth-potential-equation/Read more about all kinds of turfgrass topics at https://www.asianturfgrass.com/Get ATC newsletters at https://www.asianturfgrass.com/newsletter/Turfgrass information and decision-making tools at https://www.paceturf.org/PACE Turf YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/paceturfATC's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/asianturfgrasscenter Subscribe to my new podcast, Turf Without Borders, at https://turfwb.asianturfgrass.com/subscribeRegister for the Canadian Golf Course Management Conference in Niagara Falls at https://ogsa.ca/golfsupers-2025thecanadian/Register for the BIGGA Continue to Learn programme in Harrogate: https://www.btme.org.uk/continue-to-learn.htmlRegister for my seminar at the GCSAA Conference and Show: https://gcsaaconference.com/education/session-detail?evt_id=737742c0-bb52-4192-ab34-f06c2413df04&ses_id=d85db2dc-ec5b-48c4-820f-57abce2a5193If you'd like to attend the 15th International Turfgrass Research Conference in Japan, here's a direct link to the conference website: https://itrc2025.turfsociety.com/
Ever wondered what holds the universe together? Join us on a mind-bending exploration of the four fundamental constants that shape our reality. From the Boltzmann constant governing the energy of particles to the Planck constant quantifying the energy of light, the speed of light defining the fabric of spacetime, and Euler's number underpinning exponential growth, these constants are the building blocks of the cosmos. Discover how these seemingly abstract numbers influence everything from the behavior of atoms to the expansion of the universe. Prepare to be amazed as we unravel the mysteries of the universe, one constant at a time.

Today The Impact Driver host Holly Chen meets with Claire Gordon, a former competitive youth athlete turned coach and gym owner. Claire has a bachelor's degree in psychology with an emphasis on development psychology, and her coaching spans from coast to coast; from First Ascent in Chicago to Planet Granite Portland (now Movement), ABC Kids Climbing in Boulder, and finally starting her own independent team, PinkPoint Training in 2023. At PinkPoint, Claire does everything from coaching to administration to sponsorships, and, of course, routesetting. If asked what her proudest climbing accomplishments are, Claire will say it's her kids. Her athletes have gone to youth nationals, youth worlds, and are shaped into lifelong lovers of the sport. In the summer of 2024, Claire achieved a lifelong dream of opening her own climbing gym and began The Campus Climbing in North Boulder, due to open in early 2025. In this conversation, Claire and Holly talk about routesetting for a targeted, specific audience: elite youth athletes. They also talk about the unique structure of independent youth teams, what comp climbing really is, and how unpredictable it can be for climbers and coaches during comp day. They get into the weeds about coaching movement techniques and handling emotional pressure. And with Claire's extensive experience coaching with commercial gyms, they cover how to translate her tailored routesetting and coaching skills to commercial gyms. Last but not least, they talk about the old school routesetting mindset of forcing movement and how that can be a disservice to not just youth athletes, but the community at large. We hope you enjoy this episode of the Impact Driver Podcast! Thank you Approach and Kilter for your support! And thank you Devin Dabney for your music!
The world of journalism is in a state of flux, driven by the rapid evolution of technology and the shifting dynamics of how the public consumes news. In an era where algorithms and social media dominate the dissemination of information, the role of journalism in society is under more scrutiny than ever. As we navigate these changes, the fundamental principles that have guided journalism for centuries—ethics, fairness, and the importance of in-person reporting—are being tested. A recent study by the Pew Research Center found that half the adults in the US get their news from social media, at least sometimes, raising concerns about the quality and diversity of the information they receive. So, how can journalism maintain its integrity and relevance in an age of digital transformation? Pulitzer Prize winner Jonathan Kaufman tells us.In this episode of Tuesdays with Morrisey, host Adam Morrisey engages in a thought-provoking conversation with Jonathan Kaufman, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and the director of Northeastern University's School of Journalism. Together, they explore the changing landscape of journalism and discuss how it can continue to serve the public effectively.Main points of conversation:- Speed and Accuracy: Kaufman emphasizes how the pace of journalism drastically increased, particularly during his time at Bloomberg, where speed and accuracy were paramount. Yet, he stresses that the core values of journalism must remain intact.- Diverse Perspectives: Kaufman highlights the importance of understanding the varied identities of both journalists and their audiences, which can help bridge divides and foster empathy in a polarized environment.- Curating News Sources: Amid today's fragmented media landscape, Kaufman discusses the necessity of actively seeking out multiple perspectives to form a more comprehensive understanding of current events.Jonathan Kaufman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author, currently serving as the Director of Northeastern University's School of Journalism. With extensive experience at Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, and The Boston Globe, Kaufman has led teams to numerous prestigious awards, including another Pulitzer. He is the author of several books, including The Last Kings of Shanghai, which tells the tale of two rival Jewish dynasties that helped shape modern China.

Prof. Gabriele Carcassi is a University of Michigan Physicists who became obsessed with a simple question during his training. Where do the mathematics of physics actually come from? They are handed down to us as students as if they were immutable laws of nature… but are they? Or are they simply mathematical transformations that have long ago left the realm of reality and made their home in the spheres of theory? It turns out that we really don't know where the line between pure theory and physical reality can be drawn! Luckily, Carcassi and his research partner Prof. Christine Aidala have dedicated their time to deciphering what they call the “Assumptions of Physics,” a project which they hope will let them take apart the basic principles of the foundational science and put the whole thing back together again in a way that makes much more sense. Another talk from our recent April conference in Austin, TX, with Thad Roberts from The Physics Monastery. Thad speaks about his institute's recent progress in an ongoing struggle to comprehend the secrets of the constants of nature. These are the steady quantities that scale all the behaviors of the natural world, from electricity and magnetism, to gravity, or even elasticity. It seems strange that there are these fixed numbers inside of all our scientific formulas, but the physical significance is often forsaken. Even worse, we often have no idea why the constant is fixed as it is. Why is the speed of light limited? Why does the electron orbit at that speed? Why are they related just so? These questions and more get aired out in depth. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!!! David Gilliland speaks on three constants in a collapsing culture, from Isaiah 33:6. An unshakeable stability, an unsearchable sufficiency and an unsociable sensitivity. (Message preached in Ballymena on 31st Dec 2008). The post Christian Constants in a Collapsing Culture (36 min) first appeared on Gospel Hall Audio.
The best yet. 26 Constants, 24 Quantum Fields, Three generations of matter Four forces, Gods essential name, Intellect emotions, three patriarchs four matriarchs.
This episode shows how the specific values of the constants present a serious problem for the realization of physicists' dream of finding a Theory of Everything. It explains the mystery of constants, a problem which Richard Feynman called “one of the greatest damn mysteries of physics.” The mystery is that the numbers seem completely arbitrary with no seeming reason for their values. From the perspective of physics, these numbers could have taken on any value whatsoever. So how can physicists explain these numbers? The first objective of this podcast series is to clearly explain the following claim: When probing the universe at its most fundamental levels, physicists have discovered many constants of nature which present a major challenge to the pursuit of a theory of everything. To do this, we use helpful analogies to explain the idea of fundamental physics and explain the roles of fundamental particles and laws. Then, we introduce the idea of constants of nature, specific numbers which are built into the fundamental particles and laws of nature. Lastly, we explain physicists' dream of finding a theory of everything, one set of laws that explains everything in our universe. Can you tell if a Ruby gem is really thread-safe or not? And how do you fix a seemingly thread-safety issue that can be something else entirely?We had no idea. So we asked Nate Berkopec to help us. Nate is an expert in Ruby performance.The verdict: nuking all shared global mutable state in your Ruby code is a bad idea if you don't know what you're doing!Listen to this episode to learn:- How and why faker-ruby became thread-unsafe, especially for Puma users- Questions to ask yourself when trying to debug thread-safety issues- Shared global mutable state is not always the villain, and is not the source of all thread-safety issues - Nate's "watch-out" list of things that can cause undesired behavior when running multi-threaded Ruby applications: Constants, Class Variables, and Rack Middleware.Episode Notes
Hey everyone, This week's random assortment of voicemails seemed to have a heavy theme of love this week. Honestly, most of the voicemails do. Love is life's constant, I believe. Movies, shows, music, art, and everyday life is centered around this theme of finding something or someone. It's really no surprise so many of the voicemails talk about it. I hope you enjoy this episode. I am adding a poll to gage what can improve with this project, so if you'd like to give some feedback, let me know. If you need to say something, call 608-856-4955 and say anything. thank you for listening, At The Beep --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/at-the-beep/support
Imagine a universe with extremely strong gravity. Stars would be able to form from very little material. They would be smaller than in our universe and live for a much shorter amount of time. But could life evolve there? It after all took human life billions of years to evolve on Earth under the pleasantly warm rays from the Sun. Now imagine a universe with extremely weak gravity. Its matter would struggle to clump together to form stars, planets and – ultimately – living beings. It seems we are pretty lucky to have gravity that is just right for life in our universe.Featuring Fred Adams, professor of physics, University of Michigan, and Paul Davies, professor of physics, Arizona State University.This episode was presented by Miriam Frankel and produced by Hannah Fisher. In this sermon, Pastor Clint looks at Psalm 90 to see five constants in a constantly changing world. What will the new year bring? What can we expect? Though the world and our circumstances change -- some somethings are constant. As we begin a new year together, let's lean into the wisdom of Psalm 90 and anchor ourselves to God's word.

There is a supernatural change that takes place within us after we make Jesus the Lord of our lives. This changing is an ongoing process that takes place when we yield to God and allow Him to change us. Everyone and everything changes, but God never does. *Constants & Plasma Cosmology: RSR welcomes back Joe Spears and Doug McBurney to look further into the Setterfield Plasma Cosmology, and why the “constants” of physics might not appear to be so constant.” *20 Reasons to Question Plate Tectonics: Fred previews his Galley Copy of Ellen McHenry's eye opening new book examining the history and problems with modern Plate Tectonics Theory. *Professor Duh: He calls himself “Professor Dave” on youtube, and he claims to debunk an electromagnetic origin of the universe. But he appears to be just a failed Chemistry grad student, who eventually secured a "higher" degree in the pseudo-scientific field of “science education” and now streams from his mom's basement yelling about the God he claims doesn't exist. *The Electric Sky: Learn about the book that Donald Scott, PhD (an actual professor) wrote on electromagnetism, the universe and plasma cosmology for the general public. *Faulkner Finds Fault: Joe Spears takes on one of our favorite young earth astronomers (Danny Faulkner's) criticisms of Dr. Scott's book, (and plasma cosmology in general). *Astronomies in Collision: Creationists only have a couple of marquee names in astrophysics & astronomy, (Jason Lisle and Danny Faulkner, both friends of and past guests on RSR). And they both criticize, (or perhaps simply misunderstand) plasma cosmology. Joe Spears responds. We welcome Faulkner and Lisle's comments on this series! *One Funeral at a Time: Max Planck famously said words to the effect of “science advances one funeral at a time.” And pride can certainly inform our biases. But if the Most High God can humble Himself to the point of coming to earth in the form of the man Jesus Christ, suffering and dying to save us; can we follow His example and humble ourselves? We hope and pray we can.

My guest this week is Ryan Dusick, who was Maroon 5's original drummer until he retired because of chronic nerve damage. After departing the band, Ryan struggled with anxiety and addiction for a decade before making a commitment to recovery. Founding the group Kara's Flowers in 1994 with fellow Brentwood High School students Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, and Mickey Madden, Ryan and his bandmates worked tirelessly for a decade before the group changed its name to Maroon 5 and finally had its first hit album Songs About Jane. Multiple hit songs, two Grammy Awards, and 20 million albums sold later, Ryan found himself suffering and without direction when his career as a performer came to an end just as it was taking off. After years of struggling with physical and mental health challenges, Ryan finally overcame in 2016, when he began his journey of recovery, culminating in a new life path. Ryan now works as a mental health professional at the Missing Peace Center for Anxiety where he now helps others with their personal struggles, and has released a new book outlining his amazing life story. During the interview we spoke about the early days of Maroon 5, dealing with anxiety and a chronic injury, advice from U2, and much more. I spoke with RYAN via zoom from his personal studio in Los Angeles, CA. On the intro I'll take a look at the parts of a song that are protectable, and the 9 constants of vocal recording. var podscribeEmbedVars = { epId: 83777338, backgroundColor: 'white', font: undefined, fontColor: undefined, speakerFontColor: undefined, height: '600px', showEditButton: false, showSpeakers: true, showTimestamps: true };
