toast of london 2013 the unspeakable play[pilot][18].mp3
In this weeks episode we watch the first series of the entirely whacky Toast of London. It is as mad as you might expect coming from the weird and wonderful mind of Matt Berry. Sometimes out and out surreal, sometimes seemingly very much in the real world, this was quite a unique series for us to break down. Listen to hear our verdict on this fairly modern UK Sitcom.
We celebrated Two hundred episodes of the podcast with an ALL DAY live event at Kings Place in London, featuring ten hours of content that all culminated in this big 200th show. We kick off with Corin Hardy and Orli Shuka talking us through an explosive action clip from Gangs of London series 2, followed by a chat with Matt Berry, who joined us to celebrate ten years of Toast Of London. Plus we got into Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon on Sky, and bickered about She-Hulk on Disney+. And of course James couldn't let this milestone event go past without crowbarring the final season of See into the mix as well. There was chaos, there was carnage, there were audience questions, and returning Pilot legend Terri White was on hand to call James a bellend. What more could you possibly ask?
With the recent announcement of the privatization of channel 4, We thought it would be best to discuss the Iconic Toast of London! So, sit back, relax and Don't Blame the Pilot!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dbtppodcast/message

On today's special 500th episode, I talk to BAFTA Award-winning comedy writer Arthur Mathews. Originally from Navan, Co Meath, Ireland, Arthur was originally on the path to become a graphic designer until his writing partner suggested they go to London to try their hand at professional comedy writing. Since that day, Arthur has co-created the seminal comedy Father Ted, wrote on some of the best UK comedies of the early 2000s, including Jam, Brass Eye and Black Books, co-created the Simon Pegg-starring sketch show Big Train, and later, with Matt Berry, created Toast of London. And just creating any one of those would have put him in a rarefied pantheon, let alone Father Ted, Big Train AND Toast of London! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.

This week we review - Toast Of London (Series 3 Episode 5)Steven Toast is a middle-aged, middling actor with a chequered past who spends more time dealing with his problems off stage rather than performing on it.When not treading the boards, Toast haunts the voice over studios of Soho where amongst other, he endures the company and shenanigans of producers Danny Bear and the inimitable 'Yes, I can hear you' Clem Fandango.Toast lives with his friend and fellow thesp, Ed Howzer-Black and his career limps along with the 'help' of his useless agent Jane Plough and the hindrance of his acting nemesis Ray Purchase.Written by Matt Berry and Arthur MathewsProduced by Izzy MantDirected by Michael CummingAn Objective production for Channel 4.Toast Of London is available here: https://bit.ly/2NPE25o The Comedy Slab Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, Spotify and Youtube. Actor-comedian extraordinaire Matt Berry is our guest this week! Matt currently stars on the FX series What We Do in the Shadows, a show about a group of vampires living in current-day Staten Island. In this episode, Dustin & Ky talk about how they spent one long, bizarre evening hanging out in a porn shop in their younger days, Dustin's medical woes, then Dustin recommends Ky watch the brilliant "Toast Of London" on Netflix.
HELLO! We might have reached the bit in lockdown where we're all cutting our own hair with the wild abandonment of a drunk sheep shearer, but episode 5 is here as a tea break from all of that. And it's a good one. My conversation today is with Tracy-Ann Oberman (Friday Night Dinner, Toast Of London, Doctor Who), who is just a glorious person. So warm and interesting and she, correctly, takes her tea very strong. We spoke about the effects of lockdown on work in a really honest chat. She spoke about cancelled projects and adjusting to the new world, and how she's still managing to film a new comedy drama direct from her home. She's one of the hardest working actors out there, and three of her shows have landed all at once – Friday Night Dinner, After Life and Code 404. We speak about them all, plus Doctor Who in lockdown and a new Russell T Davies project. We reached the top 100 in the Apple Podcast charts last week for TV & Film, and that's all down to you for sharing and subscribing. Just recommending this pod to one person helps so much. There are some excellent guests lined up in the next few weeks, and I can't wait for you to hear our first international edition soon. Apple TV+ has brought Amazing Stories, the less-nihilistic take on The Twilight Zone, back for all the '80s kids, though confusingly premiered this anthology series with only one episode. Mark Lisanti joins us to talk about the fishiness of this rollout strategy, and whether "The Cellar" was a compelling enough episode to get anyone back to watch more. Around The Dial takes us through For Life; a roundup of the series premieres on FX (and FX on Hulu): Devs, Breeders, and Dave; Jersey Shore: Family Vacation; and Season 3 of Babylon Berlin. Mark presents the "Hamm On Toast" episode of Toast Of London for induction into The Canon. Then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we all sit a spell for this week's Game Time. How did Netflix think it would get away with a stinker like V Wars in the age of peak TV? We ponder that question with returning guest Monty, and we investigate the ingredients in a C-minus Syfy show (which this basically is) and wonder whether the show has, well, enough vampires (spoiler: nope). We go Around The Dial with Servant, Mad About You 2019, Making It, Ex On The Beach, and Toast Of London before rebooting dark characters in sunny-genred shows for an Extra Credit. Monty went over the top (as it were) for his Blackadder series finale Canon submission. Non-fiction cheerleaders won, Baby Yoda lost (sort of), and we seconded a motion for Part 2 of a previous Game Time. Keep hacking -- it's a bloody great new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
TV writer Howie Kremer (LET'S GET PHYSICAL, FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY) and actress/comedian Tracy Meyer (THE REAL O’NEALS, COMMUNITY) sit down with Sasha and Steven to discuss STRIKE BACK, a British/American TV show airing on Cinemax and its archetypal hero, "a p***y hound with the heart of gold." Do Tracy and Howie have a special dance for the show's theme song? Does Sasha approve of STRIKE BACK's Russian accents? And how do they shoot all those graphic sex scenes (think tapes and pillows)? Also, the hosts and the guests recommend Matt Berry's TV show TOAST OF LONDON, films PEPPERMINT and THE VILLAINESS and a very special brand of chips. Wonder Woman is on Netflix and Gal Gadot is everything, but sadly the story is not. By comparison, the other DC movie Dark Knight Rises (2012) with Christian Bale is such an outstanding action film. Toast of London is a super quirky, very funny new-ish British comedy also on Netflix. Colette with Keira Knightley is a gorgeous movie with an interesting true story behind it. Let us know if you're watching these movies and what you think of them at @helenrac and thanks for listening!
Arthur Mathews chats about Father Ted including the upcoming musical, as well as working with Matt Berry on Toast and how he got started in comedy writing.

Brocks Warriors On Edge Of Teimar (and other Swiss cheese orbs) That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, and one colossal wait between transmissions for all regular listeners of The Finders Keepers Radio Show! Having taken a brief hiatus during the April showers while European record fairs collide with Record Store Day chaos your faithful cosmonautical cowboys Votel, Mitchell and Shipton return to your discerning diaphragms with an outerstellar space rock special of epic interplanetary proportions. This bumper edition of our regular proxi-pop pilgrimage is recorded live on lunar location beamed to you directly from the Keepers Cockpit combining unpolished nuggets of black plastic debris in a show that traces, misplaces and erases the history of the flexi-genre known as space rock (while reducing it to various alien strains of Gallic Galaxian psych, Morricone moonshakers, Swiss spatial awareness and Mancunian martian invasions amongst other tenuous intergalactic alliterations). Putting our Tandy teleportation tank to the test comes a wide cast of very special guests including return visitors Jane "Amber Light" Weaver and Matt "Toast Of London" Berry sharing their loves for specific synth fuelled 70's sci-fi. Meanwhile, elsewhere of our vinyl vessel, astro-probes AV, PM and DS welcome two undisputed heavyweight pioneers of genre defining space sonic schallplatten on board in the form of Swiss computer jazzer Bruno Spoerri and Hawkwind principal pilot HRH Dave Brock. If you want to hear Richard Armitage swear in Dwarfish (and turn his head around 360 degrees), this is the podcast to listen to. Also here to talk The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug was Luke Evans, who was charm personified as he lulled several members of the team into starting a fan club. And as if that weren't enough, the sonorous Matt Berry dropped by in honour of his fantastic sitcom, Toast Of London, and just say words in a beautiful way.
