As a former "fat kid," Lauren Herskovic had deep seated insecurities that led her to choose professional roles that didn't give her what she needed because she didn't think she deserved it. She spent seven years as the COO of a startup where the founders made her feel like she was good at her job and dangled the carrot of the “big payoff,” but it came with severely compromised boundaries. Ultimately, she found her way from soul-sucking burnout to success and authenticity in the real estate industry. Lauren's story is a powerful testament to personal and professional growth that can inspire anyone facing their own transitions around the age of forty. Guest Bio What do you get when you combine a teacher, a comedian and a COO? Either the start of a really bad joke or an attentive, knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and entertaining real estate agent. In this case, we've got the latter. Lauren Herskovic, founding member of Moda Group at Compass specializes in helping first time homebuyers find their place in Chicago.Lauren grew up in suburban Detroit and now lives in Chicago. She got a BA in English and Secondary Education from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). She then served as Editor in Chief for an online women's magazine in NYC before working as COO for a consulting company based in Chicago, taking the company from a 3-person operation to a team of 100+ with offices in the US and China. If you think that sounds like something that would burn someone out, you'd be right! So, burnt to a crisp in the latter half of her 30's, Lauren decided to follow her heart and make the leap into Real Estate. And she hasn't looked back since. In her free time (which is limited these days, with this active market!) she eats her way through Chicago, binge-watches Bravo with her Toy Poodle, Harvey, and takes an obscene amount of pictures of said food and said poodle.Turning 40 and Kicking the Soul Sucking Job to the CurbIn this episode of the Forty Drinks Podcast, Stephanie McLaughlin sits down with Lauren Herskovic, who navigated through significant life changes before her 40th birthday. Lauren shares her journey from grappling with self-doubt rooted in childhood to transforming into a confident real estate agent and finding love in a healthy relationship. Lauren paints a vivid picture of the ups and downs of personal growth, the importance of vulnerability, and the ongoing quest for self-acceptance.Her story is a testament to the power of self-discovery and resilience through the midlife transition, offering listeners a candid look into the personal and professional growth that can occur during this pivotal time.Episode Highlights:Career Shifts: Lauren discusses her transition from feeling undervalued as a Chief Operating Officer in a startup to thriving as a real estate agent where she built her brand around her authentic self.Self-Discovery: She reflects on her struggles with body image and how overcoming these helped her gain confidence in her personal and professional life.Relationship Evolution: Lauren opens up about her past relationships and how meeting her current partner at the right time in her life made a significant difference.Setting Boundaries: Learn how Lauren learned to prioritize her needs and set boundaries, especially concerning her time and personal space. The Impact of Therapy: Lauren credits therapy with helping her understand herself better, which was crucial in her journey towards self-acceptance and improvement.Family Dynamics and Personal Growth:She discusses the influence of her family's communication style on her personality and how external perspectives helped her gain insight into herself. With a blend of vulnerability and humor, Lauren's journey through her midlife transition illustrates the challenges...
It was only a matter of time.In this re-release of a classic Poodle episode, Kate and Brodie come together to discuss Girlfriends, Claudia Weill's directorial debut from 1978, and an absolutely perfect film. Co-written by Vicki Polon, it starts Melanie Mayron as Susan Weinblatt, who has a perfect face and spends her days shooting bar mitzvahs and waiting for her big, artistic break in late-'70s New York City. When her best friend and roommate, Anne (Anita Skinner), a writer, gets married and moves out of their apartment, Susan searches for ways to repair her loneliness. She meets Eric (a hunky young Christopher Guest), grows close to Rabbi Aaron Gold (Eli Wallach), brings home a hitchhiker named Ceil (Amy Wright) and tries to bridge the distance by spending time upstate with Anne and her husband, Martin (Bob Balaban). A film about friendship, making art and platonic love, Girlfriends is so much more than the sum of its parts and a tidy plot summary. This week's poodle episode sees the picture of teenage perfection obliterated by perversion. It's jawbreaker time, baby. The meanest, coolest, hottest girls in Reagan High School play their annual birthday morning prank on their friend Liz Purr, but things go awry when Liz chokes to death on a Jawbreaker. Courtney (Rose McGowan) and her henchwomen Julie (Rebecca Gayheart) and Marcie (Julie Benz) do their best to cover their tracks, and implicating our queen Fern Mayo (Judy Greer) in the process. They transform her into Vylette (learn it, live it, love it) and fumble their way through a criminal investigation led by Judy's sister Pam Grier.Kate and Brodie talk their very different relationships to the film, the "80s does 50s" style, fellating an icepop, Rose McGowan's feud against Can't Hardly Wait, the links to Do Revenge and The Donnas.See Also:Jawbreaker 20th anniversary oral historyRose McGowan and Darren Stein on JawbreakerPerverting the Youth of America: the oral history of teen classic, JawbreakerYoo Hoo by Imperial Teen music video Hosted on Acast. It's a funky poodle this week!Directed by Terry Zwigoff based on Dan Clowes' beloved, cult graphic novel and co–written by Zwigoff and Clowes, GHOST WORLD is a window into the friendship between two teen girls Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) – true outsiders – over the summer following their high school graduation as their allegiance first and foremost to each other starts to wain. These are the caustic, counterculture obsessed girls you either identify with, or you fear. They're working out what to do next – Rebecca's got a clearer path than Enid, who's got to get through an excruciating remedial art class (taught by Illeana Douglas) in order to get her high school diploma. One day Enid and Rebecca prank a lonely guy behind a personal ad. Soon, hermetic record collector Seymour (Steve Buscemi), enters their cool, misanthropic world and unsettles their folie à deux friendship for good.See AlsosThe Women of Ghost World on Working with Terry ZwigoffThe Dan Clowes Reader edited by Ken ParilleThe work of Aline Kominsky-CrumbTavi Gevinson's interview with Dan ClowesThe work of Julie Doucet (Drawn & Quarterly)Ione Skye's short David Goldberg based on "Ice Haven' from 2011Seance in Wowsville, Criterion essay by Howard HamptonGhost World at 20Tillie Waldren, author of On a Sunbeam, I Love This PartBrodie's post about Scarlett's ironing boardsWatch AlsoCrumbFunny PagesAmerican SplendourDiary of a Teenage GirlDaria season 3, episode 5: “The Lost Girls” (here's the episode of Doree Shafrir's podcast Rerun where Aminatou Sow discusses it)Find us on Instagram @seealsopodcast Hosted on Acast. We're See Also and we don't put out!!To welcome 2023, Kate and Brodie are returning to the source: the proto-feminist punk classic, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains. It's 1980 and a couple of punk bands roll into the steel town of Charlston, USA. In the audience are Corinne "Third Degree" Burns" (Diane Lane) and her sister Tracy (Marin Kantor), orphaned teens trying to make ends meet after their mum's death, and their cousin Jessica (Laura Dern). They yearn for a way out, for a way to better themselves. By the time the Metal Corpses and the Looters leave for their next tour, The Stains – the girls' band – has joined them as the support act. What happens next, the ignominious break-up of the Looters and the huge success of The Stains, was the feminist fantasy that, in real life, made the film a cult inspiration for the Riot Grrrl movement. Written by Nancy Dowd and directed by Lou Adler, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains prove why every citizen should be given an electric guitar on her 16th birthday.See AlsosStainspage on Caroline Coon's website NPR's piece on the influence of the film on riot grrrl, featuring Alison Wolfe from Bratmobile, tied to the release of (ARP Hive!) This week, See Also is feeling flung out of space. For a very special holiday Poodle, Kate is joined by Chelsea Fairless, co-host of Every Outfit on SATC, for a virtual glove-lunch. Together, they play 1950s and devolve into "dyke debauchery" while discussing our fave and yours: Carol. They cover the martinis and creamed spinach, Our Cate's voice and her period-inappropriate manicure. Also: Alsos!Based on crime novelist Patricia Highsmith's "The Price of Salt", Carol (2015) is a contemporary – and somewhat unlikely – Christmas classic from director Todd Haynes and screenwriter Phyllis Nagy, who deftly nails the spirit of the original text. That spirit is the tingling, electric air between Carol (Cate Blanchett), a married woman with a small child, and Therese (Rooney Mara) a young amateur photographer moonlighting as a department store Christmas casual. Their paths cross one morning in the toy department, a glance makes way for some light shopping chit-chat, and the seed is sewn, a glove left on the counter, and there it is – an opportunity for a second meeting, and a cross-country road trip, against all odds (which include Carol's estranged husband Herge, a gun and a looming custody battle).See Also:The original short story Carol/The Price of Salt is based onScreenwriter Phyllis Nagy discussing the way the film finally came togetherKate McKinnon's Carol parody for the Film Independent Spirit AwardsKing Princess song 1950, inspired by CarolForbidden Love: The Passions behind Patricia Highsmith's "The Price of Salt""Carol" Up CloseWatch Also:TárLoving Highsmith (with caveats discussed in the episode)Nelly & NadineWord is Out: These are the Stories of Some of our LivesThe Children's HourThe Killing of Sister GeorgeDesert HeartsHigh ArtThe L Word & The L Word: Generation Q (LOL)Also Alsos:Chels recommends: Byredo lipstick in Subtropical, Lana Del Rey - Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean BlvdJinxy recommends: her Zodiac Club extended playlist on Spotify, Gay Bar: Why We Went Out by Jamie Atherton Lin, Je Tu Il Elle Find us on Instagram @seealsopodcast Hosted on Acast. The Poodle, called the Pudel in German and the Caniche in French, is a breed of water dog. The breed is divided into four varieties based on size, the Standard Poodle, Medium Poodle, Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle, although the Medium Poodle variety is not universally recognized. The Poodle most likely originated in Germany, although it is also claimed to be from France. The Standard Poodle was originally used by wildfowl hunters to retrieve game from water. The smaller varieties of the breed were bred from the original in France where they were once commonly used as circus performers, but have become popular companion dogs. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In today's podcast we discuss using positive reinforcement versus positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement combined. Kate talks about a study by Nicole A. Murray where she looked at The effects of combining positive and negative reinforcement during training with her dog. Becky struggles with scientific studies and the ethics and reasoning behind the need for humans to know everything, so we have a little rant. However we explore the study and compare the positive reinforcement and positive and negative reinforcement within our equine world and how we as care givers need to be aware and look at how we are teaching, training and learning with our horses. The end of season 3 and time for a little holiday, we will be back soon. If you are enjoying our podcast please share and subscribe. Ok... you've decided to get up and go see Australia with or without the kids... but the 'most important' child can't be ignored right? The family dog. So many people are travelling with pets these days - dogs in particular - but the services like vets & groomers we're used to at home are not always easily available on the road. In this latest episode from www.simpleasfat.com Jon Gaunt says you can forget about celebs like Tyson Fury, Kim Kardashian and Halle Berry backing Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) diets as his dog has just gone low carb and he has never looked better. In this funny but informative podcast Jon Gaunt explains that most dog food is 74 percent carbohydrates and he believe that, just as with humans, this is a recipe for disaster. Jon’s toy poodle, Ambi, also suffers with epilepsy. As you may know Low Carb High Fat diets are an effective treatment for epilepsy in children and have been used since the 1920’s based on the Banting Diet. So, Jon thought well what’s good for the Goose is good for the Gander or the Poodle and put his dog on LCHF. Jon says the results have been amazing and led to weight loss, more vitality, a better-looking coat and most importantly no epileptic fits since going low carb. So, the question is can a Low Carb High Fat Diet control epilepsy in dogs? Jon Gaunt says, yes and his Toy Poodle is the living walking, barking proof. Jon also talks about the benefits that he has felt himself since going low carb which he says are less depression, his gout eliminated and of course combined with walking he has reversed his Type 2 diabetes and got his blood pressure into the normal range. If you are a dog lover or just a lover of life you will love this podcast. Download the whole series for FREE on Apple.

Silvie Bordeaux, Muffins Halo Interview with inventor Silvie Bordeaux. A Proven Transitional Solution. Muffin’s Halo Guide For Blind Dogs ® is a custom designed product to guide blind/visually impaired dogs and safeguard them from bumping into walls and objects. This NEW patented device is a great aid to help them become familiar with existing or new surroundings quickly. Blindness can be caused by several factors such as: glaucoma, corneal problems, cancer, trauma, retinal diseases, diabetes, cataracts and/or genetics. The most common reasons include cataracts, glaucoma and diabetes. While any breed can be affected, the following pure breeds are more prevalent than mixed breeds to genetically be inclined to develop cataracts: Cocker Spaniel, Poodle, Siberian husky, Schnauzer, Old English sheepdog, Samoyed, Golden Retriever, Maltese, Boston terrier and Yorkshire terrier. For glaucoma; Shih Tzu, Siberian husky and Bouvier des Flandres. Type II Diabetes is a rapidly growing problem among pets in the U.S, often due to pet obesity. It affects nearly a million and a half dogs with 75% of them developing cataracts and blindness in both eyes, within one year of diagnosis. According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP), there is a 50-50 chance your pet is among the 33 million dogs that are overweight or obese. As pet obesity rates increase, so will the incidence of diabetes. Muffin’s Halo Guide For Blind Dogs ® was invented out of the love and devotion for MUFFIN BORDEAUX, a 12 year old Toy Poodle, who lost his sight due to cataracts. Muffin began bumping into walls, falling down the stairs and becoming depressed and immobile, as he attempted to transition. His mother/owner Silvie Bordeaux was heartbroken and determined to find a solution for her beloved dog. After doing extensive research, Silvie realized there is the great need for products to assist blind dogs, creating Muffin’s Halo ® – Guide for Blind Dogs for her beloved dog, Muffin. Muffin’s Halo Guide for Blind Dogs ® is a lightweight, comfortable and stylish solution with an easy fit with adjustable Velcro strips. Its soft angel wings sit on the dog’s neck to protect their head and shoulder area, while the decorative halo is designed to safeguard them from bumping into walls and other objects. This device does not hinder a dog’s normal daily activity and makes them look like a precious angel. “This product is a revolutionary invention that will change and save the lives of many dogs that have lost their vision! It’s a brilliant solution that provides safety and comfort for blind/visually impaired dogs to enjoy their lives and live as normal as possible, without their sight. Muffin’s Halo is heaven sent for dog owners dealing with this widespread issue,” said Laura Ballegeer, owner of blind dogs.
