Some people set a goal to run a marathon. Gary Saxton set a goal to run a marathon after he turned 50. Not only did he run one marathon (or longer) after age 50, but he ended up running 100 of them! Some people say they don't have time to train. Gary is an inspiration; he underwent major back surgery and had a heart attack while accomplishing his goal. His book: 100 Marathons After 50 has valuable life and running lessons for everyone.

You know what you're going to get at McDonald's - some immediate satisfaction perhaps, but long-term you'll probably be left feeling a bit grim. Well, in the world of anti-wrinkle injections, it's very much the same (meal) deal.Arguably the most popular aesthetic treatment, this procedure is widely available - from the back of your nail salon to your hairdresser's waiting area. But here's the catch: if you want to avoid looking perma-surprised, frozen or just plain weird, it's essential to understand how this treatment works, and more importantly, that the practitioner treating you does.So today, we're talking toxin truths - how to ensure natural results, the risks of overdoing it and why a Michelin-starred approach to muscle relaxing is really the best way to go. On this week's episode, Katie talks to the barefoot running sensation and “original” barefoot runner, Ken Bob Saxton. When Ken Bob began racing exclusively barefoot in 1997, he found that people had a lot of questions, so he decided to compile all his answers in one place, which led him to founding the website barefootrunning.com in 1997. Ken is someone who will go shoeless at every opportunity he can and he has even done multiple marathons while barefoot. Join us to hear the benefits and great things he has to say about barefoot running. Trust me, it will still land, but as you're coming down to the ground, you're starting to lift your feet to your body, but your body is also coming down, so all you're really doing is slowing down the impact. You're decelerating your foot as it lands. So you're coming down, bending your knee, but you're not actually bending your foot up. You're just slowing its descent down so that it touches gently. It's really difficult for people to get that.” 38:49barefootrunning.com
It's more common to have an uneven skin tone than not. Regardless of your skin colour, dark spots and patches can appear on any part of the face and body. This is referred to as hyperpigmentation - think of it as your skin's way of keeping a diary of your adventures (such as sun-soaked holidays, scarring moments and pregnancy journeys). While it's common, many people find it problematic. So, as summer gives its last hurrah, I'm sharing my Pigmentation Playbook. It's designed to get you clear on the types of hyperpigmentation you may (or may not) have, outline the approach to treating this tricky skin concern, and explain why taking a 'stepladder' approach might be your best bet in the quest for a bright and even complexion. A language's AST—it's abstract syntax tree—is nearly always a hidden implementation detail. It's not treated as part of the language, but merely the intermediate step between parsing and compiling. But this week's guest aims to flip that relationship on its head... Peter Saxton joins me to talk about EYG - an AST-first language that defines the fundamental capabilities first, and then stretches out from there to surface syntax and final execution. The result is something that can teach us a lot about how a typed, functional programming language works; how an extensible effects system works; and could make writing a new programming language as easy as defining the syntax you want, and parsing that into EYG's AST.--EYG Homepage: https://github.com/crowdhailer/eyg-langTinyGo: https://tinygo.org/Become a Supporter on Patreon: https://patreon.com/DeveloperVoicesBecome a Supporter on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@developervoices/joinKris on Mastodon: http://mastodon.social/@krisajenkinsKris on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krisjenkins/Kris on Twitter: https://twitter.com/krisajenkins

Masters week unfolds with the soul of Austin at its core as local legends Todd Leonard and Charlie Crenshaw VI join me to swing through heartening tales and insider golf insights. We tee off reminiscing about the verdant fairways of Augusta National, where long hitters like Bryson DeChambeau are favored, and where tradition is as rich as the history threading through our own Saxton family tales. Our conversation is more than just about the swing mechanics or the leaderboard standings; it's a heartfelt homage to the deep connections fostered in the Austin golf community, and the spirit of sportsmanship we cherish. As we navigate the mental contours of the game, we spotlight Scottie Scheffler's strategic "no's" that echo beyond the green—a lesson in focus and balance that's vital across life's fairways. Hear how this simple yet powerful approach has become a linchpin for success. We also tackle the complexities introduced by the LIV Golf series, stirring the pot of tradition and evolution within the sport. And for those who love the lore as much as the links, we pay tribute to the legendary Vern Lundquist, whose masterful commentary has left a lasting impression just as indelible as the most iconic Masters moments.Wrapping up our Masters celebration, we share a toast to the selfless acts that define the Austin community, with Todd Leonard's recent display of altruism spotlighted. The warmth of friendship and shared experiences underlines our discussion, as golf is not merely a game but a conduit to life's most profound bonds. So, whether you're an avid golfer or someone drawn to stories of human kindness and connection, this episode promises to be a memorable round through the cherished traditions and vibrant community of Austin's golf enthusiasts.Support the showPlease like and follow each of Stories Inside the Man Cave Podcast social media links on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Tik Tok.

On the evening of October 6, 1898, forty-eight-year-old George Saxton, brother of First Lady Ida McKinley, was riding his bike to the home of his lady friend Eva Althouse when an assailant dressed in black emerged from the shadows and fired two shots. Wounded, George crawled towards Eva's house and had just reached the front steps when the shooter approached and fired two more shots, killing him almost instantly.Within hours of Saxton's death, his former mistress, Anna George, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. For more than a decade, Saxton and George had been carrying on a scandalous relationship that began as an illicit affair until Saxton successfully convinced George to divorce her husband, supposedly with promises to marry her. However, once she was a single woman again, Saxton's enthusiasm for marriage had cooled and over time his interest in Anna waned. Anna George's sensational arrest and trial dominated headlines for months and, as Saxton was extremely unpopular, many people sympathized with the accused woman and even reveled in Saxton's death. After an intense and closely watched three-week trial, Anna George was acquitted of the murder and soon after she faded out of the spotlight, leaving the murder of George Saxton officially unsolved to this day.Thank you to the glorious David White, of the Bring Me The Axe Podcast, for research!ReferencesAkron Beacon Journal. 1906.
