The first scene of the new Fox and Global series Murder in a Small Town is set at that most sacred of Canadian television landmarks: the diner from The Beachcombers, Mollys Reach. Seated inside, shooting a first date scene, are two actors representing several generations of Canadian acting royalty: Kristin Kreuk, the Vancouver lass who went from Edgemont to Smallville to Beauty and the Beast to Burden of Truth to starring in this fifth network series, Opposite her is Rossif Sutherland. The late, great Donald was his dad; Kiefer his half brother. No pressure.Series creator and writer Ian Weir (also Canadian) screwed up and made Rossif a Chief of Police, not a Mountie. Kristin plays a librarian/muse, not Anne of Green Gables. Otherwise, almost everything else about this series is so Canadian it apologises. Sorry.Even one of our greatest homegrown actors, R.H. Thomson, plays a dead body in the pilot. That is so Canadian.Kreuk, one of the most popular guests ever at brioux.tv: the podcast, talks about all of this and more. On this episode of The Movie Podcast, Daniel is joined by Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Burden of Truth, Beauty and the Beast) to discuss her new murder mystery series, MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN. The show is based on the Edgar Award-winning Karl Alberg series by acclaimed novelist L.R. Wright and follows Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), who moves to a quiet, coastal town to soothe a psyche that has been battered by big-city police work. He'll quickly learn that this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets and will need to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective in solving the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore. Kristin Kreuk stars as Cassandra Lee, a local librarian who becomes Karl's muse, foil and romantic interest. Murder in a Small Town debuts Tuesday, September 24 at 8PM ET/PT on Global and STACKTV with a one-time 90-minute episode then moves to 9PM ET/PT on Tuesday, October 8 before landing in its regular day and time on Wednesday, October 16 at 10PM ET/PT. Last stop before Season 2! This week we revisit our convos with some of the guests who were responsible for making Smallville the incredible show it still is. Including, but not limited to, the work behind the scenes from Al Gough, Miles Millar, Glenn Winter, and Greg Beeman … and the lasting performances on screen from Kristin Kreuk, John Schneider, and John Glover. These were some of our favorite moments from these guests in Season 1. Can't wait to share who we have planned for Season 2. Thank you to these lovely folks:
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum explore the deepest desires of Smallville in Episode 15: Nicodemus. After remembering certain issues with directors on set, the guys dissect the different ‘out of character' performances from John Schneider, Kristin Kreuk, and Sam Jones III whose characters fall under the spell of the Nicodemus. Tom remembers Kristin's reaction to the pool scene and how the crew managed safety concerns of the windmill shots. Michael talks about one of the most memorable performances from Annette O'Toole in this episode and how Lex continues to conveniently miss Clark in action. ❤️ Subscribe and share to support the new pod! ☎️ Hotline: (213) 538-2883 Thank you to our Sponsors:

Plot:The film opens to in Hudson, Ohio, "Scotty" Thomas is dumped by his girlfriend Fiona immediately after his high school graduation at the beginning of the film. Back at Sottys house, he replies to an email sent to him from "Mike" his German pen pal. Cooper warns him that he could end up being sex trafficked when "Mike" asks to meet up. Scotty attends a graduation party that evening with Cooper, where the band, fronted by Matt Damon, performs a song detailing his affair Fiona called Scotty Doesn't Know. Cooper finds himself in a hot tub with a girl and convinces her to take her top off, before getting caught by some jocks and thrown out. Scotty returns home drunk and angry and reads an email from his German pen pal, expressing sympathy for Scotty and suggesting they meet in person. Remembering Coopers suggestion that "Mike" may be a sexual predator, Scotty tells Mike to stay away from him. The next morning, a very hungover Scotty sees his younger brother, Bert, reading his email and informs him that "Mieke" is actually a common German feminine name. Realizing that he had mistaken her name and that he has feelings for Mieke, Scotty tries to contact her again, but finds that Mieke has blocked his email address. Scotty decides to travel to Europe with Cooper to find Mieke and apologize in-person. -This whole movie could've been resolved if he just made another email address-Finoa is pretty hot-I LOVE Cooeprs line of "this isn't where I parked my car"... I used to use that one occasionally.-Its funny that with all the practice with writing German, he mistook Mieke for a guy, considering she probably used feminine pronouns.-Did you have a passport when you were 18? Could you have just up and gone to Europe? Scotty and Cooper go tot he airport and find flights via being couriers. They first arrive in London, where they en dup in a Manchester United hooligan pub; they eventually befriend their leader, Mad Maynard. After a night of drinking, Scotty and Cooper wake up on a bus on their way to Paris with the hooligans. In Paris, they meet up with their classmates, Jenny and Jamie, fraternal twins who are touring Europe together. While in Paris, they decide to visit the Louvre, but are met with a VERY long line. While waiting, Cooper gets creeped out by a street performing robot. Scotty begins imitating him, and this leads to a robot fight; ending with Scotty kicking the robot guy in the balls. That evening Jenny and Jamie decide to accompany Scotty and Cooper to find Mieke in Berlin. The group travels to Amsterdam, where Jamie is robbed while receiving oral sex in an alley, losing everyone's money, passports, and train tickets. Cooper, in his continuing attempt at crazy European sex, visits Club Vandersexxx; which turns out to be a dominatrix club fun by Lucy Lawless. Cooper is then sexually assaulted with a tripple dildo machine. Meanwhile, Jenny and Scotty think they are trying hash brownies; but it turns out there is no weed in them and they are not high. With their money and passports gone, they attempt to hitchhike to Berlin, but due to a language misunderstanding, they end up in Bratislava. Finding a great exchange rate with the U.S. dollar, the group goes to a nightclub. Drunk on absinthe, Jenny and Jamie make out with each other, witnessed by Scotty and Cooper, and are horrified when they realize what they are doing. The next day, a Slovak man drives them to Berlin, where they learn from Miekes dad that Mieke has left with a summer tour group, and will be reachable in Rome for only a short time. While Scotty is talking to Miekes dad, Cooper watches Miekes young step-brother color a tiny mustache on himself and goose step around his apartment; much to Coopers surprise. As they debate what to do outside the apartment, Jamie sells his Leica Camera for plane tickets to Rome to find Mieke. -Apparently the courier thing was a real thing, but has declined over the past 10-15 years, as couriers built their own fleets.-The robot fight is hilarious, but obviously not realistic at all.-Michelle Trachtenberg is hot. Killer body. I miss the shirts like she wears in the Bratislava, which I didn't know was a real country until recently. It doesn't look like the movies, though, very nice and pedestrian.-A used Leica M6 on Ebay was going for $2,772.-I love the whole Bratislava section; the green fairy and everything. I find it hilarious. In Rome, the group heads to Vatican City, where Mieke is touring before her summer at sea. Inside the Vatican, Scotty and Cooper search for Mieke and accidentally rings the bell that signals the Pope has died. They unknowingly enter the popes apartment, and after some fooling around, and accidentally dressing up as the pope, and accidentally setting a papal hat on fire, indicating a new pope has been elected, Scotty appears on the papal balcony, and everyone assumes he's the new pope. He spots Mieke in the cheering crowd below; all this happens while the current pope is watching on his tv. The Swiss guards realizes what is going on and detain Scotty and Cooper for their actions. However, the Manchester United football hooligans from London suddenly appears at the Vatican and telling the guards to release Scotty and Cooper. Scotty finally introduces himself to Mieke and confesses his love. Mieke is happy to see him, and they have sex in a confessional booth before she leaves on her trip. On the flight back to Ohio, Jenny and Cooper give into their urges and have sex in the plane's lavatory, while Jamie stays in Europe after being hired by Arthur Frommer. -No way they would've been able to just get into the Vatican without some sort of tour group paper work. Even if he did know everything.-There is no way access to the Popes apartment is just in a random door that is accessible by anyone. Also weird they would have the bell that indicates the pope has died right by his door.-In the original ending, Mieke turns Scotty down... Making a more rational decision that they don't know each other well enough. Scotty moves to Oberlin College in the fall term for his studies. During his phone conversation with Cooper, who is now dating Jenny, Cooper asks what Scotty's new roommate looks like. Mieke knocks on the door of his room, having been assigned to the same room because of another misunderstanding about her name. Scotty and Mieke embrace and get into bed together, with Cooper calling for Scott on the other end of a still-open cell phone call and the film closing with the Absinthe Green Fairy wondering at his own lack of a sex life. -You'd think in one of the forms Mieke would've had to fill out to attend college, and get assigned a dorm room, she would have checked the "female" box, but I guess they missed that part. If anything, I feel bad she's probably in an all male dorm. Also, at 18... I mean, I seriously doubt they'll end up together forever. Top Five Trivia of the movie: Top 5 TriviaThey had a lot of trouble casting Scotty. “It had gotten to the point, literally, where we were going to restaurants, staring at our waiters,” said Mandel of the search for Scotty. Luckily, Mechlowicz, a UCLA student at the time, “rode in on a white horse” to save them from further stress over casting the all-important part. Meanwhile, Trachtenberg credited her physical comedy in her audition — which was the airplane scene where Jenny climbs over Cooper on her way to the bathroom — to her getting the job offer from the producers. “And I blew them,” deadpanned Trachtenberg, who got several laughs from the crowd for her natural EuroTrip-style humor. Above all, though, producers said it was important to them at the time to cast real teenagers in the roles. “We didn't want 35-year-olds playing high school kids,” said Schaffer.Despite all the political incorrectness in the film, there was one scene that was just too much for the studio, referred to by producers as “The Anne Frank sex scene.” In the scene — never filmed but available in script form on the original DVD, they claim — Cooper finds a flyer for a sex club called “The Secret Room” and accidentally misidentifies the house of Anne Frank as the club. (“He asks somebody, ‘Is this The Secret Room' and they go, ‘Yes, it will change your life,'” Berg recalled.) Encountering a big line outside, Cooper assumes he has found the correct place, but instead of waiting, he goes through a backdoor. Once he discovers a small room with a small bed, he decides to get naked and wait for a sex worker — but soon after finds himself exposed in front of a tour group. (To make matters worse, Anne Frank's only living relative was a part of the tour group.) And as if that wasn't enough to horrify the studio, the scene also had Cooper reaching for a small mannequin — one guess as to whom it was modeled after — and covering his private parts with it, resulting in an unintended sexually explicit visual for the tour group. The producers wrote the Club Vandersexxx scene to replace this scene once it was nixed. The original title was Ugly Americans. But the studio didn't want the movie with “ugly” in the title or a “sarcastic or ironic” title, said Schaffer. “We had a knock-down, drag-out fight with them,” said Schaffer, “which is like having a fight with your parents when you're four because they can call it whenever they want.” And they did.The nude beach scene originally had much less nudity in it. But once they started filming, they realized it took away from the comedy to have all the extras holding surf boards and other objects — Austin Powers-style — to cover their private parts. “We thought, ‘Wouldn't it be funnier if it was just wall-to-wall penises?'” said Mandel. The extras likely didn't mind the change; according to Trachtenberg, there was a lack of shyness between takes, making for an awkward craft services environment.Matt Damon's cameo — as the band leader/guy who steals Scotty's girlfriend, played by Kristin Kreuk — came together because the producers knew him from their days at Harvard…and he was in Prague. In fact, many parts, including Jeffrey Tambor's, were filled because the actors were already shooting in Prague, where EuroTrip was filmed. “No one wanted to fly over and we didn't have the money to have anyone fly over,” recalled Schaffer. “So we basically looked around and said, ‘Who's filming in Prague?'” Luckily, Damon was in town shooting The Brothers Grimm. Not so lucky, however, was that the only night he was available was the shortest night of the summer, so “we literally had from 10:45 at night…and the sun would come up at 3:45,” remembered Schaffer. “So we shot it in, like, 4.5 hours.”And a little fun tidbit from me Marcus the Song Scotty doesn't know Matt Damon sing on Spotify it has 124 762 320M Downloads. SOMEBODY SAVE MEEEEEE! If you're a fan of SMALLVILLE you likely sang this tune along with Remy Zero for 10 seasons in one the best DC shows ever created. Starring Tom Welling as a young Clark Kent in the Superboy tale we never knew we wanted cause it was the boy without the super in many ways. Showcasing his formative years in the Kansas town of Smallville. The show featured a cast that we grew up with and fell in love with in their roles as the pivotal and life shaping people in young Clarks' life. From his loving parents Jonathan and Martha Kent played by Annette O' Toole and John Schneider. To the first love Lana Lang played by Kristin Kreuk. Then you have Michael Rosenbaum as the ultimate Lex Luthor and the sad fall from grace beginning as a friend to Clark. The show was near and dear to many who couldn't wait to see the boy finally become the Superman he was destined to be. The sordid saga of Jeffrey Epstein has gained widespread public attention, however it is not the only case of wealthy, well-connected abusers to make waves in recent years. The cases of Jimmy Savile, Bill Cosby, and Harvey Weinstein have likewise helped open the floodgates. One of the strangest, however, is NXIVM. Presenting itself as a multi-level marketing organization peddling self-help under the tutelage of the manipulative, Manson-esque guru Keith Raniere, NXIVM has since been exposed as a sex cult that counted Smallville actresses Allison Mack and Kristin Kreuk as well as American heiress Claire Bronfman amongst its famous and influential members. The cult's alleged activities included brainwashing, blackmail, physical branding of members, and BDSM practice of master-slave relationships sans anything that could reasonably be understood as consent. Raniere and other members have since been convicted on charges including racketeering, forced labor, and sexual trafficking. Joining us on this edition of Parallax Views to discuss both the Jeffrey Epstein and NXIVM cases is Roberta Glass of True Crime Report. Roberta, in addition to the True Crime Report podcast, has done firsthand reporting from court on both the NXIVM trial and the Epstein-related Virginia Roberts Guiffre v Ghislaine Maxwell. Por último, nos molaremos a nosotros mismos comentando la peli de "Double Dragon" con un T-1000 que orquesta la sutil interpretación de un villano antológico.
In this episode of the Red X Podcast, Nicole and Lance speak with Karen Diers the director of Refuge for Women in Las Vegas that provides housing and restoration services for women who are victims of sex trafficking. In the news, a Smallville actress is arrested on human trafficking charges. Lance tells the story about seeing the movie, Upgrade, a sci-fiction (Lance’s favorite) with his wife, Cheryl. The main character finds out how AI changes his life. A lot of the cars in the movie help date the movie to the near future. Cheryl didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Lance because of some violence. But overall, Lance gives it a thumbs up! Nicole recounts a trip to DC to meet with NC senators’ reps about Erin Wallin’s proposal for getting higher restitution for child pornography victims. Erin is an attorney in TN and was a guest on the Red X Podcast, episode 009. Nicole and Erin are going back to DC in July to talk to more senators next month. On this episode’s icebreaker, Lance asks Nicole trivia questions about animals. This taps into Nicole’s area of expertise. How would you do on this matching quiz? Answers are: Bat, Frog, Elephant, Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Kangaroo, Koala, Ostrich, Sloth What animal has fingerprints that look human? Which animal can’t jump? Which animal can be hypnotized by turning it over and rubbing its belly? Which animal takes 2 weeks to digest his dinner? Which animal always turns left when it leaves its home? Which animal has no vocal chords? Which animal has an eyeball bigger than its brain? Which animal when in a group is called a “mob”? Which animal kills more humans than any other mammal? [caption id="attachment_151" align="alignleft" width="270"]Allison Mack as Cloe Sullivan[/caption]In the news-- You might know 35 year old Allison Mack as Cloe Sullivan, one of Clark Kent’s best friends on the TV series, Smallville. Or maybe you know her from the Show 7tth Heaven or Disney’s Honey We Shrunk Ourselves. But the actress is probably now most well-known for her arrest on trafficking charges in March of 2018. According to Fox News, Allison Mack was seen running after Keith Raniere as police were pulling him from his $10,000 a week villa in Mexico where the two had been hiding out. Raniere was a co-founder of the self- help organization NXIVM that many have called a cult. He is accused of holding women as slaves both for sex and labor. Mack is named the primary recruiter of the women. She was nicknamed “Pimp Mack”; Allsion denies allegations. Frank Parlato, a former publicist to NXIVM, it was Mack’s idea to brand the women near the groin area. [caption id="attachment_152" align="alignright" width="336"]Mack allegedly suggested branding NXIVM women[/caption]Another Smallville actress, Kristin Kreuk has also be accused of recruitment for the organization, but she denies having done so. Kreuk says quote “When I was about 23, I took an Executive Success Programs/NXIVM ‘intensive,’ what I understood to be a self-help/personal growth course that helped me handle my previous shyness, which is why I continued with the program,” Kreuk wrote on twitter. “I left about five years ago and had minimal contact with those who were still involved.” Raniere created a system of women using psychological manipulation who were considered masters and other slaves. USA Times says: “Members believed that Raniere could heal them of emotional traumas, set them free from their fears and attachments, clear patterns of destructive thinking. Some believed he could heal them sexually too. An ex-member said quote “This is the white-collar spiritual path,” “You’re on the monk’s path, but you’re not wearing a red robe with a shaved head.” Mack was apparently one of Raniere’s slaves but also deeply involved in the organization and luring other women into the pyramid scheme. Most of the members were from wealthy families seeking empowerment. Trafficking does not always look like what you expect. Nicole interviews Karen Diers, the Las Vegas City Director for Refuge for Women. Refuge for Women is a national organization that started almost a decade ago. Karen says it began in KY as aftercare for women who had been victims of human trafficking and the program has spread to various cities around the country and continues to grow. Karen says that human trafficking is not so different than what they see in LV, but that because LV receives so many tourists and is a major hub for trafficking routes, the crime is prevalent in the city. In fact, LV has 7 major trafficking routes and Karen explains that it is “big business” to exploit a woman. [caption id="attachment_149" align="alignleft" width="252"]Karen Diers - Refuge for Women Las Vegas[/caption]Sadly, the women are treated as resources. While drugs and alcohol can run out, an exploited woman can be sold over and over again. A typical Refuge for Women applicant most often comes to the home through some rescue intervention—either in jail or in a police of FBI operative. Las Vegas is ramping up helping first responders identify victims. Once identified, they can be sent to a shelter for protection from their pimp and be given the basics of what they might need such as protection, food and clothing. Then they can find a restoration home like Refuge for Women so they can recover from trauma. Karen says that most clients are high school graduates, single moms, who have been sexually abused and often think of suicide. A lot of the women have children from their pimps or abusive relationships. A lot of times, the women don’t have the children with them though. They might have been taken away and put in social systems or are living with other family members. Through restoration, mothers and children can be reunited. Karen says “Human trafficking is not partial”. Women of all different backgrounds, with or without children have become trafficked. And traffickers see their victims as reusable commodities. Karen believes that every woman should live her dream. Refuge for Women gives them a chance. One reason that Refuge for Women is successful is that the city of Las Vegas meets regularly with law enforcement, non-profits, first responders and service providers so that the city can be united in their fight and response to human trafficking. Karen doesn’t believe in reinventing the wheel or doing what another organization is already doing. For example, Refuge for Women focuses on restoration and doesn’t go into the entertainment industry to help women get out—The Cupcake Girls does that and offers the women counseling services and resources. Nicole asks what does Refuge for Women do to ensure safety? Karen says they take safety seriously for themselves as well as for their clients. Whether or not a trafficking victim stays in LV for restoration or is sent for care outside the state depends on multiple factors. Was she under coercion from someone else? Was her trafficking gang related? The home is kept confidential and the women are watched 24 hours a day 7 days a week. No social media is allowed. Volunteers and staff must agree to confidentiality statements and background checks. Refuge for Women has only had one situation since their inception 9 years ago in which there was a threat to safety. Many times, the trafficker will not pursue a victim once she is in a restoration home because she is viewed as “expendable”—she can be replaced with another victim. But safety is top priority. In fact, Refuge for Women just put a retired law enforcement officer on their Board to advise on best practices for safety. [caption id="attachment_153" align="alignright" width="293"]Refuge for Women Las Vegas[/caption]Nicole asks what advice Karen would you give to another area that would like to replicate what they are doing in LV to combat trafficking? Las Vegas has a mayor’s faith initiative that has helped bring many of the churches on board. Karen says it’s important to just get out and start finding out who’s doing what. It’s like a spider web with a network of providers serving the community’s different needs. It’s doing the work and going out and learning who’s doing what. The process of learning about community needs and resources can begin just with a simple google search. Refuge for Women counts on people having a heart for trafficking victims and wanting to serve them. Nicole says that it was pretty easy to find Refuge for Women because she went to Polaris Project and looked up resources. In spite of growing number of resources, Karen says there are only 680 beds open for women are done with the “life” in the entire country. If victims are able to go through a program like Refuge for Women, it’s so successful. If survivors do the work of restoration at Refuge for Women for 9 months in the home and then another 3 months of working a job, there is a 95% success rate of women not returning to “the life”. Women go through self care courses, financial education and even some basics like how to do laundry. In one case, Refuge for Women had a girl who had been trafficked for 16 years; she didn’t know how to care for her body or how to keep herself safe. She had others teach her how to cook, how to shop, how to do her budget, how to get a job. Karen says they ask survivors, What do you want to return to? What was your dream and how can you achieve it? Refuge for Women returns women to their dreams. Restoration at Refuge for Women has three phases. The first is healing and involves psychotherapy ad group therapy. They have to fight hard every day for recovery. They have to deal with the past trauma, sexual abuse, foster care experiences. Many times women were gang raped or have experienced a vulnerability from an early age. Survivors don’t know their power or what a proper relationship looks like. Refuge for Women has to teach women how to rebuild trust. They do so through classes, recovery meetings, relationships and the therapeutic atmosphere. The second stage is vocational preparation. Women must learn how to maintain life through the tools they’ve been given. Are they going to go back to school or receive additional training? The third and final stage of restoration is to gain employment. Refuge for Women partners with Dress for Success, which helps them develop their resume, practice interview skills and offers them professional clothes for a job interview. One woman who completed the program is a great example of success. She had been trafficked for 16 years. Refuge for Women had someone locally that could give her teeth as she was in serious need of dental care. Another person removed her cancerous skin lesions. This woman’s pimp had branded her with his picture as a tattoo, and another service was able to have it removed. Another woman wanted to be restored to an adult child as well as younger child that had been removed from her and she was reunited. A whole family was restored in this case. It’s not just the heart, body, and mind, but families that receive restoration because of the work of Refuge for Women. It does take a community for restoration--dentists, doctors, tattoo removal services, mentors, vocational supporters, and more. But it also takes finances to run a home. Refuge for Women requires $400,000 to run a home each year and ensure 24 hour a day staff. Women enter the home with zero cost to them. And the home requires a vibrant and dedicated volunteer base. Karen says there is nothing more beautiful than to see a woman’s restoration play out. If you support refuge for $100 a month, you can “adopt” a resident. You can send her a birthday card, you’ll know her favorite music, color, and preferences to support her through encouraging letters. Visit www.Rfwlasvegas.org to learn more. The best way is to view the media kit, a one-stop shop for learning statistics, testimonials, seeing an actual house tour, and video. You can also support their upcoming fundraiser at Top Golf. Contact Refuge for Women if you have questions or would like to learn more about upcoming homes that will be opening! Nicole and Lance reflect on the dearth of beds around the country and the need for more. The needs are intense, but the restoration of a woman can mean restoration of an entire family and a stop in the cycle of exploitation.
This week we discuss, or rather rant about, Lana Lang. We are specifically covering the Lana in the television show Smallville, played by Kristin Kreuk. Fictionalfemales.com
