What do you get when you mix Broadway royalty with sci-fi cloning, environmental theater, and a dash of boogie-woogie piano? A wildly entertaining conversation with the legendary Terrence Mann. From his earliest days growing up in a musical household to helping launch the North Carolina Theatre, Terry's journey is packed with passion, persistence, and a whole lot of timing. He shares the story behind how he actually got cast in Cats (it involves London and a royal connection), and how he practically willed his way into Les Misérables after being told multiple times they didn't want to see him. His advice for young performers? “Have no fear, there are no wrong choices, and be specific”—words he lives by and teaches. Now back on stage in Broadway's The Great Gatsby as Meyer Wolfsheim, Terrence opens up about what it feels like to return to the theater after years in “Foundation land,” filming Apple TV's epic sci-fi series. We also dive into his work as a director, educator, and his longtime love for North Carolina's historic Lost Colony production. And yes, we play a game of Plot in 60 Seconds, get a surprise cameo from iOS balloons, and bond over the beautiful chaos of 1980s New York auditions. This episode is packed with decades of wisdom and a whole lot of heart. Terrence Mann is a three-time Tony nominee best known for originating iconic roles such as Rum Tum Tugger in Cats, Javert in Les Misérables, and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. His Broadway credits also include Pippin, Tuck Everlasting, The Addams Family, Scarlet Pimpernel, and Rags. On screen, he's appeared in Sense8, all four Critters films, and currently stars as Brother Dusk in the Apple TV+ sci-fi series Foundation. He's also an accomplished director, educator, and co-founder of Triple Arts, a musical theater training program. This week Justin and I continue our month of musicals with A CHORUS LINE! Hundreds of hopefuls congregate at a cattle call for Broadway dancers. A sour director, Zach (Michael Douglas), and his brusque assistant (Terrence Mann) whittle down the ranks until they're left with 16 dancers. All tell their life stories -- some tragic, some comic -- and explain their love of dance. Tension mounts when Cassie (Alyson Reed) -- once both a big star and the director's lover but now desperate for a part -- auditions. But Zach must choose only the best for his show. This month's theme: Horror franchises "In SPACE". As we reminisce about the origins of the Critters franchise, comparing it to its contemporaries like Gremlins and Ghoulies, we also puzzle over this entry's plot, performances, and oddly serious tone. Why is Terrence Mann's character suddenly a jerk? And where the f*ck did all the critters go? Listen as we highlight standout performances from surprising actors like Brad Dourif and Angela Bassett (?!) in this low-budget sequel. Despite its shortcomings, we hope you find this a hilarious and engaging review perfect for fans of horror franchises that go TO SPACE!

David Harris is an Australian actor who somehow found himself moving from architecture school to the bright lights of Broadway. He shares his early passion for architecture and how he pivoted to a career in performing arts just three days into his studies. He looks back on his journey, including participating in talent quests at RSL clubs in Australia and having friendly competitions with Broadway performer Ricky Rojas. Being in the workshop and eventually being cast in "The Boy From Oz" marked a significant turning point in his career and what he considers his claim to fame. He reminisces about his experience working with Hugh Jackman in the show, and a memorable commercial shoot with him just before New York shut down for COVID (click here to watch). David reflects on the differences in how musical theatre is perceived in Australia, the UK, and the US, his personal experiences with it, and his frustrations with the lack of recognition for musical theatre actors in Australia compared to Broadway performers in the US. He emphasizes the critical importance of swings and understudies in theatre, and his gratitude for them in keeping the show running smoothly. While he's already managed to prove naysayers wrong, David has no plans on stopping when it comes to the pursuit of growth and constant learning. David Harris is a native of Australia, where he's one of the most acclaimed leading men of his generation. In the US, he has received critical praise for his performance of Dan in TheatreWorks' “Next to Normal”. He starred as Jean Valjean in the Connecticut Repertory Theatre production of “Les Misérables”, which was co-starred and directed by Tony Award winner Terrence Mann. He starred as Billy Crocker in Goodspeed's production of “Anything Goes” and as Father in Barrington Stage Company's “Ragtime” in 2017. He originated the role of Max Bronfman in Stephen Schwartz's new production of “Rags” at Goodspeed Opera House. After playing the role of the Duke on the first national tour of “Moulin Rouge” in 2022, he can now be seen playing the same role in “Moulin Rouge” on Broadway. Carefully Taught: Teaching Musical Theatre with Matty and Kikau
Jessica Humphrey is the President of the Musical Theater Educators' Alliance and an Assistant Professor at Texas Christian University. In this episode we discuss the Musical Theater Common Prescreen Criteria developed in partnership with MTEA, Accptd, and several Musical Theater programs across the country. We also discuss the upcoming MTEA conference in London at the Guilford School of Acting from July 23rd to July 25th, 2024. Her recommendations include: Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution by Todd S. Purdum and getting an “old-fashioned” planner! Jessica is a native of Dallas, Texas and attended Western Carolina University where she received a Bachelors of Music in Musical Theatre. This is where she first started working as a dance captain for Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise and assistant to Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann both on productions and at their summer intensive, Triple Arts. She has continued to assist the husband and wife team until she moved to TCU. Both Terrence and Charlotte directed Jessica in shows such as A Chorus Line (where she eventually took over the role of Cassie when Tony nominated actress Ariana DeBose suffered an injury), Sweeney Todd (Johanna) and Pirates of Penzance (Edith). Jessica went on to work as a dance captain for original Rent dance captain, Owen Johnston and spent two summers as the dance captain for Wild Adventures Theme Park. After graduating in 2011, she moved to New York City where she performed in several regional shows including the regional debut of The Boy from Oz, Cats (Rumpleteazer) and Into the Woods (Little Red). Some other favorite productions have included Dames at Sea (Joan), West Side Story (Anybodys) and Brigadoon (Bonnie Jean). Eventually she decided it was time to further her education and completed her Masters in Musical Theatre at San Diego State University where she received support from the Roscoe-Tiffany MFA Musical Theatre Scholarship and the Marion Ross Scholarship. The program is one of only a few in the nation with a terminal degree in musical theatre, and the only one that has a clear focus on both performance and academia. An important aspect of this program is working on developing new musical theatre works. Jessica worked with Dallas natives in developing the show “On the Eve” and with Tony Award Winner BD Wong and Wayne Barker on the show, “Mister Doctor”. Jessica went on to work with BD and Wayne again in New York, on a new musicalized version of Mister Holland's Opus. Jessica taught classes such as History of Musical Theatre, Acting I, and Musical Theatre performance. While completing her thesis on the evolution of rap in musical theatre, Jessica left California in order to perform in Alaska as Peter in Peter Pan. While flying every night, and completing her thesis, she also worked to choreograph numbers for the Aztec Follies, a cabaret of graduate students filmed for PBS. During her time in grad school, Jessica also worked at the famed La Jolla Playhouse, in the Development Department and the Musical Theatre Archive at SDSU, the largest Musical Theatre Archive west of the Mississippi. After moving back to New York City, where she resided until August 2018, Humphrey worked with organizations such as the Ziegfeld Society, Rosie's Theatre Kids, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. She continues to study voice with the esteemed instructor Andrew Byrne and works as a performer both onstage and in voiceover.
The LA Clippers would be without Kawhi Leonard for the seventh time this season against the Sacramento Kings. It would be the end of a 4 Game road trip, and the superstar forward would be missing the game with what was listed as knee soreness. It would need Paul George and James Harden to be great to get a win and that would not be the case on Tuesday night. In this episode, diehard Los Angeles Clippers fan and host Darian Vaziri breaks down why the game was such a joke in terms of performance by the team without Kawhi Leonard. He also talks about the continuous struggles of James Harden, and the team not getting enough from the role-players particularly Terrence Mann and Amir Coffey. Welcome back baseball fans and 80s movie buffs! In this week's episode of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast, hosts Krissy and Nathan discuss the 1989 fantasy film Field of Dreams with fellow podcaster and filmmaker, Tommy Metz III. This nostalgic baseball movie stars Kevin Costner as Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, who hears a mysterious voice telling him to build a baseball diamond in his cornfields. After Ray builds the field, the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson and other players banned from baseball for alleged game-fixing in the 1919 World Series emerge from the crops to play ball again. The hosts reflect on Field of Dreams' sentimental exploration of family, redemption, and second chances.Field of Dreams skillfully balances sentimentality with elements of fantasy and the supernatural to avoid becoming overly sappy or precious. The scenes with Shoeless Joe retain a sense of mystery and discovery. The excellent ensemble cast features memorable performances by James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, and the actors playing the ghostly ballplayers.Comparing Field of Dreams to similar fantasy films like The NaturalExamining the movie's nostalgic, timeless portrayal of the rural MidwestAppreciating the emotive score by James HornerAnalysis of the mysterious voice and its cryptic instructionsDebate over the meaning of Terrence Mann entering the cornfield at the endConclusionField of Dreams continues to captivate audiences more than 30 years later thanks to its winning blend of fantasy, nostalgia, and emotional resonance. Its exploration of how we can heal connections with family and history makes it a lasting classic. Tune in next week when Krissy and Nathan review another unforgettable 80s movie!

A ver quién busca perder partidos. Damos unos consejos a Woj. Qué bien conocemos a nuestro Pat. Algo habrá que decir de los Suns, pero todo pasa porque jueguen los tres y metan puntos. ¿Se la juegan más Tatum, Lillard, Durant o Doncic?
It is Forever Midnight's very own Josh Jacob Jingleheimer Staples birthday! And what better way to celebrate than by letting him pick a movie for the FM3 to talk about. Jef and Brian were surprised and even a little excited when he picked the 1988 blockbuster Critters 2! Getting to see that giant Critter-Ball in action as well as some titillating Critties busting out of a certain bounty hunters uniform made Jef, Josh and Brian sprint to watch what might be Mick Garris's best movie. Plus the FM crew talk about the recent Haunts they got to attend - Winchester Mystery House's "Unhinged: Housewarming" & Terror Vault: "The Initiation" Produced by Peaches Christ and David Flower!
James Harden showed up to Sixers training camp? And everything was fine?! We speculated whether this was a ploy to get traded to the Clippers ASAP and also discussed the potential of another Eastern Conference Contender trading for Harden ... Then about halfway through this we got some minor slop from Sam Amick and Shams live on air about the Clippers interest in Harden ramping up. We discussed all of it and more. Enjoy. During the Patreon section we got some more slop about the Sixers interest in Terrence Mann and we power ranked all 30 NBA teams from worst to best, before finally discussing Joel Embiid joining team USA next summer. The Equalizer Season 3 Episode 9: Inner View Aired on CBS: November 18, 1987 Directed by: Marc Laub Written by : Jim Trombetta Featuring: Katherine Cortez, Terrence Mann, Toni Kalem, Starletta DuPois, Paul Hipp, Ron Vawter, Timmy Cappello We're calling it now, this episode is an instant classic, if anything because it has its own theme song: Shadow Man. A clairvoyant woman helps EQ and Harley Gage track down a serial killer. The newspapers call that guy the Scrapbook Killer but his real inspiration is a hit song by the band "Archon". And that song... is Shadow Man. Between psychic visions and the 80s rock scene, this episode is venturing into new territories, which of course it does in a fresh and informed manner. For example, it shows the way rock concerts used to be promoted in most major cities back then that time nearly forgot about but we remember, and honestly, we'd like to see rock flags come back. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com

Mixed opinions on this one. I liked S01E09 "The First Crisis" a whole lot more than A.Ron. For me, the acting really sold me on this episode, both Terrence Mann and Cassian Bilton. And of course we can't wait until dad gets home to see what kind of consequences Dawn will have to face. Join us for the podcast for our full thoughts heading into the final episode. In this episode of our PILOT ERROR series we look at the TV pilot for Shangri-La Plaza (1990). A musical-comedy unsold pilot made by CBS in 1990. Macho Ira and sensitive George are two polar-opposite brothers who own an auto-repair shop in Southern California. Both men quickly fall for Amy, a beautiful widow who has inherited the local donut shop previously owned by her no-good estranged husband. Amy plans to sell the place and move with her daughter Jenny to Paris, only to find that her ex-husband had "hocked the place up down to the powdered sugar", forcing her to put off her dreams and run the place herself. Geneva was the sassy waitress at the coffee shop, and Chili the rapper-narrator-dancer on crutches. Some of the pilot's extremely memorable numbers include "Donut Hole" (Geneva, Jenny and the Customers), "Don't Tell Me I Can Really Care" (George and Ira) and "Ain't It Always the Way" (Amy, George, Ira and Geneva). Terrence Mann , Jeff Yagher , Melora Hardin , Carmen Lundy , Savion Glover , Allison Mack and others star. Listen, rate and share.
