The Wilson's Snipe lives in marshes and muddy areas, where it probes for worms and other squirmy delights. But when spring comes, it takes to the air. The male Wilson's Snipe circles high above in a series of roller-coaster arcs, each descent marked by a loud and distinctive sound. This winnowing sound comes from its wings and a couple of tail feathers! Take a field trip with your local Audubon and you may find a snipe.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. THE TWO WINGS OF LEADERSHIP 1.1Cor 3:3 Be careful who you compare yourself to For the person that you choose is the limit for you Deep in your heart, down where nobody sees. You've defined the highest level of what you can achieve. You don't realise the person is still making progress, What they will be in years to come you don't know The jealousy in your small heart is the highest vision that you have of yourself It is Christ that you should look to. And see that it is in His image that He has made you. 2.1 Samuel 18:17 Our God expects from us leaders of might. Mighty in many domains, men of mighty deeds God responds and He gives results. To leadership of might, we need leaders of might Many people don't aspire to might because They compare themselves to others. Looking around and seeing you're better than others makes you satisfied That is the problem with comparison. It stops us from aspiration to the night that God wants. 3.1Samuel 16:18 Now see David, what a mighty man Mighty in many domains, what a mighty man Mighty in music, in praise, in battle In giving, in leadership and the fear of God God demands leadership of might from our ministry. So, He can give those leaders results. We need leadership of might in our ministry, it's what God demands Let's look at David as a model! And let us develop mighty in many domains. 4. Actes 7:22 If you're the leader of a housechurch Then you must develop might in at least three domains. If you're an elder in a local church Then you must develop might in at least six domains. If you are a city leader, it must be nine domains. Leader of a nation it is twelve. If you are the leader of a continent my brother, it must be eighteen. If your department touches our work world-wide Then you must be mighty in twenty-four domains. 5: 1Samuel 18:7 What we've been labouring to develop Is leadership of might in our ministry The other routes to promotion Have weakened this leadership, this leadership of might. All these little clans and personal affinities And religious politics With no love for God and little knowledge of God, empty heads and hearts Our God demands leadership of might. And we must give to Him these leaders of might. 6.1Rois 3:4-15 There are two wings of leadership The leadership of might and leadership of gifts David exerted leadership of might But Solomon his son, a leadership of gifts Leadership of might is that which we labour to do The leadership of gifts is what God gives We must have these two wings of leadership in our midst, in our ministry But if we don't work to develop might The gifts that we receive will crush our character. 7. Daniel 6:3 Your talents can become spiritual gifts And then those spiritual gifts grow to leadership gifts If we want spiritual leaders like this We need people we can describe as being gifted Father, reach out to us all over our ministry Give to us the leaders we need Give us leaders who have might and who have many gifts, this is what we need Oh father give us the leaders we need The leaders of might and the leaders of gifts. Oh Father make us the leaders You need The leaders of might and the leaders of gifts. Edification songs, message from Brother Theodore, Fasting and prayer crusade from 16/10 to 24/11/2023. Day 11

Today I want to jam on a concept central to Buddhism, which is the two wings of the bird of awakening: wisdom and compassion. One of my teachers, Kamala Masters, said the suttas describes compassion without wisdom as a “likeable fool.” And they describe wisdom without compassion as “ a lonely hermit in an ivory tower.” Right - so neither scenario is ideal. Compassion without wisdom leads to suffering because we have to know how to help others without harming ourselves - or others - in the process. We need discernment to be able to understand boundaries and how we can best be of benefit to others. Wisdom without compassion leads to suffering because we are all interconnected, and without taking the suffering and wellbeing of others into account, we haven't truly grasped the depth of the wisdom teachings. Together, they do more than just balance each other out - they're essential to the path of freedom and awakening. Without this balance, we can actually do more harm than good. Another way to think of this would be to say that wisdom can be seen as internal work (the work we do within ourselves) and compassion is the work being externalized and applied to helping others. Let's take a second to remind ourselves what we mean by wisdom, because it's not just intellectual understanding of deep concepts like emptiness or suffering. It's also insight into our own minds and cultivating wisdom so we understand how our mind works: what triggers us, how we react, how we can skillfully lengthen the pause between perception and reaction. The more we do this, the more we will naturally decrease incorrect perceptions and be able to see things as they actually are - reality as it IS, without delusions or stories, which helps to decrease suffering. Through understanding these wisdom teachings, we also increase our understanding of interconnectedness and interdependence, and inevitably, we have no choice but to put ourselves out there to benefit others (cultivating compassion). Compassion acts on interdependence - our deep connection to everyone and everything, cultivating an open heart to the suffering of all sentient beings - and the desire to alleviate it. Together, they create a balance between two forces, like yin and yang; emptiness and fullness; stillness and movement. Inward seeking and outward giving. Through our continued practice of meditation and mindfulness in daily life, we also see the ways we get hooked on a regular basis - by our emotions, old storires and traumas. We realize how personally we take the daily challenges of being human; how we resist change and wish things would just go the way we want. And awareness precedes change. So let's take a moment to reflect on our own practice: Do we have a balance between both wisdom and compassion? Do we actively try to cultivate them both? I remember going up to one of my teachers and asking him some complex question about how one school of Buddhism described this nuanced aspect of emptiness vs another, and he paused after my long-winded questions and said, “You know, these questions are not so important. It's important to check you mind: Did I help someone today? How did I treat people? Was I kind? It's important to reflect on compassion.” We need to be honest with ourselves and make the necessary changes if we find we're focusing too much on one or the other. Let's end with a quote from HH the Dalai Lama: “When we are motivated by compassion and wisdom, the results of our actions benefit everyone, not just our individual selves or some immediate convenience. When we are able to recognize and forgive ignorant actions of the past, we gain strength to constructively solve the problems of the present.” You will learn:// The importance of having both wisdom AND compassion in our lives// What happens when we lack deep wisdom or cultivated compassion// How we can cause more harm than good when these qualities are out of balance// How wisdom helps us see the true reality of things// The 3 characteristics of all phenomena// Ways we can work to cultivate a balance of both wisdom and compassionResources://To cultivate compassion, try this guided Tonglen Meditation audio (30min)// Episode 28: Practical Emptiness// Episode 51: Self-compassion// Episode 106: Empathy vs Compassion// If you want to dive into this level of healing with a small group of self-identified womyn, having plant medicine retreats in Alaska and Hawaii, adventures in nature and learning more about your mind and your deeper Soul Purpose, visit AdventureMastermind.com to get on the waitlist to be the first to hear about the next dates and locations. Session 3 – Traveling on Two Wings: Allah's Perfection and Our Dependence by Shaykh Ashhar Ali
Verse 28 does not mention Yin or Yang, but these two concepts have their fingerprints in every line. It's a verse that teaches to combine the unlikely pairs of seemingly opposites, not just in order to integrate one's psyche with Tao, but also to become a grounded, peaceful, and useful Tao practitioner. This week's quote reader and question-asker is Dr. Laurel Reinhardt, "a therapist in recovery", whose work can be found at these two sites: www.innerlandscaping.com; and www.etsy.com/shop/innerlandscaping. Homily, 09.25.2022 - Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost & First Sunday of Luke THE EPISTLE (For the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost) The Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (4:6-15) Brethren, seeing that it is the God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, the same also shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of power is from God, and not from us. We are pressed on every way, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; smitten down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our mortal flesh. So, then, death is working in us, but life in you. But having in us the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, “I believed, and therefore I spoke,” we also believe, and therefore we also speak, knowing that the One who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up through Jesus, and will make us stand together with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, which is multiplied through the thanksgiving of many, may abound to the glory of God. THE GOSPEL (For the First Sunday of Luke) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (5:1-11) At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And He saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, Jesus asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when Jesus had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Thy word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish, which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.

Scott talks about “two wings” all leaders need in order to move their organization forward: Respect and Relationship. In the same way an airplane won't fly without two wings, you can't “fly” your church or ministry without these two… ✈️ If you have the respect wing but no relationship wing, you won't be able to lead people. They might respect you (for who you are, what you know, where you've been, etc.), but they won't follow you because you lack connection. This leads many leaders to develop a “buddy syndrome” with the people they're called to lead. When that happens, they forfeit respect. Here's the problem that creates… ✈️ If you have the relationship wing but not the respect wing, they'll connect with you— but they won't follow. You need BOTH in order to move the organization— that is, the church or ministry— forward.
