lon Musk leads SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink, and The Boring Company. As the founder and chief engineer at SpaceX, Musk oversees the development of rockets and spacecraft for missions to Earth orbit and ultimately to other planets. That’s enough to propel the car from a dead stop to 60 mph in just over 3 seconds and into 124 mph in less than 10 seconds. Porsche notes that the Taycan can perform ten full-throttle 0-62 mph and four 0-124 mph launches without seeing a decrease in performance. When the Taycan gets released later this year, for example, the vehicle will be capable of charging up to 250 kW at an 800-volt charging point. The car is compatible with 350 kW charging, but that would come by 2021 at the latest.   And from InsideEVs who noted that CAR Magazine got the specs whilst at Goodwood Festival Of Speed:   Base Taycan - with 80 kWh battery and RWD (two motor choices of 322 bhp or 376 bhp) priced at low $90,000. mid-range Taycan Carerra 4S - with 96 kWh battery and AWD (power output of 429 bhp or 483 bhp), priced at high $90,000. Taycan Turbo - with 96 kWh battery and AWD (over 600 bhp of power and 649 lb-ft of peak torque, 738 lb ft in the 10-second overboost window), priced at £120,000 ($149,000). The MG ZS EV Excite starts from £28,495 OTR. After deducting the Government Grant of £3,500 and the matching MG EV Grant, the first 1,000 retail customers can purchase their car from just £21,495. MG will also match the Government Grant on Exclusive versions, reducing the £30,495 OTR price to just £23,495. Free home charging point and standard installation also applies to the first 1,000 retail orders. With a combined WLTP certified range of 163 miles and frequent rapid charging capability, there's also a 7-year warranty which covers the car and the lithium-ion battery. There's a colour touchscreen featuring sat-nav, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth phone connection with audio streaming and DAB radio. Water-cooling manages the battery temperature allowing frequent rapid charging and optimum range whatever the weather. ZS EV customer deliveries will begin in September 2019. Customers wishing to make sure they secure one of the first 1,000 retail cars, available from just £21,495, can place a £500 deposit to reserve their place in the queue by visiting MG.CO.UK/ELECTRIC   Mark Kane for InsideEVs points out production considerations: "It's hard to say much about the demand for ZS EV in the UK, but the Chinese factory is reportedly able to deliver 300,000 annually according to MG, but we take it with a pinch of salt as SAIC would need to have 13 GWh of batteries on hand."   TOYOTA AND CATL ENTER A SERIES OF COLLABORATIONS "Toyota has just announced the cornerstones of a comprehensive battery collaboration with Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL). This includes not only a “stable” supply of CATL batteries for Toyota but also the development of new battery technologies and more." reports electrive: "Apart from battery cell supply and development, the deal also foresees the improvement of product quality and the recycling of used batteries.  Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd. is not only one of China’s most important battery producers; with a share of around 16 per cent, CATL became the market leader for electric car batteries worldwide in 2017. Now Polestar has confirmed that the performance package will include Brembo brakes, Öhlins shock absorbers, 20-inch forged alloy wheels, and unspecified grippier tires. It will also include some eye-catching trim, including body adornments and apparently yellow seat belts.  The launch edition of the Polestar 2 is expected to sell for $63,000, though even that may not have all the elements of the performance package. The Tesla Model 3 Performance starts at $56,190 with delivery. The price of the Polestar 2 Performance Package hasn't been set, but the company is reportedly targeting a price of about $5,000. Both will include all-wheel drive. Speaking of Tesla, if we add the demand the Tesla Model S and the Model X have for battery packs, the American EV manufacturer is responsible for 22 percent of all global deployments in May."   Whilst Green Car Congress says: "From January through May of this year, mor than 7 GWh of battery capacity was deployed globally in Tesla EVs. However  it is necessary to give carmakers and customers time to adapt. This is why San Francisco says in its “Proposed Electric Vehicle Roadmap for San Francisco” it will have “Interim Targets” for reaching its goals.   "These targets aim to rapidly electrify vehicle miles traveled (VMT) while reducing total VMT by increasing the share of sustainable trips. The basic setup will be an electric rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drives should also be possible. While the small Honda e is primarily aimed at the European markets and the Japanese domestic market, the small electric car is apparently too small to appeal to customers in the USA. he new architecture will also be able to accommodate cells from various vendors, including Panasonic and CATL. Only Panasonic cells will be installed in the smaller Honda e platform. MIKHAIL GROZOVSK,  GLEN SUTTON and GUDJON HUGBERG BJORNSSON   FORD USE VW'S ELECTRIC CAR PLATFORM Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen AG today announced they are expanding their global alliance to include electric vehicles – and will collaborate with Argo AI to in-troduce autonomous vehicle technology in the U.S. and Europe Ford will become the first additional automaker to use Volkswagen’s dedicated electric vehicle architecture and Modular Electric Toolkit – or MEB – to deliver a high-volume zero-emission vehicle in Europe starting in 2023.   Ford expects to deliver more than 600,000 European vehicles using the MEB architecture over six years, with a second all-new Ford model for European customers under discussion. This supports Ford’s European strategy, which involves continuing to play on its strengths – including commercial vehicles, compelling crossovers and imported iconic vehicles such as Mustang and Explorer.   Volkswagen started developing its MEB architecture in 2016, investing approximately $7 billion in this platform. Harley-Davidson customers will be able to take advantage of Electrify America’s network of ultra-fast EV chargers across highway and metro charging stations planned in 42 states and the District of Columbia.   BMW IX3 ELECTRIC SUV RUMORED TO BE REAR-WHEEL DRIVE IN U.S. "BMW hasn't been too secretive about the arrival of its newest artillery of electric vehicles. In fact, the Bavarian automaker has sent official spy photos of the iX3 – a concept that was introduced in 2018 but now confirmed for production next year – together with two other EVs i4 and iNext." reports Motor1.com: "BMWBlog got a bit more information about the all-new electric crossover. According to its source, the iX3 is based on the G08 platform, which underpins the long-wheelbase X3. Even better, the iX3 will allegedly have a rear-wheel-drive configuration in the United States. BMWBlog also got the supposed moniker of the iX3 – sDrive75, with "75" representing the 75 kWh capacity of its battery pack. I’m not finger-pointing: it’s clear that we have a role to play in that, as well as the Government and the incumbent suppliers. But we have to make it easier to live with electric cars, from ensuring geographical coverage to raising standards so that charge points always work to introducing a system where you can have one card – ideally your credit card – to pay wherever you are.  Having so many providers, each with their own payment systems that you need to sign up to in their own unique way, presents an unnecessary hurdle.
