Here's What You'll Learn in our Interview with Cindy: How has COVID impacted the rental market Working with a tenant that is struggling Knowing your 'end goal' for real estate investing And much, much more! As a thriving young individual in her early 20's, Cindy Wennerstrom was ready to move out of her family home but knew renting wasn't for her. Buying was in her blood. At 24, she had purchased her first investment property and home in Sudbury, ON where she legalized it into a duplex and rented rooms in the largest unit to students while she lived upstairs. Using the income, she paid for her masters degree and became "school-debt-free" within 6 months of graduating! (BA in Law and Justice in 1995 and an MBA in 1998). When a career opportunity relocated her to downtown Toronto a few years later, the game was on for her to begin looking for a rental unit for the first time. However, like most of us, she had trouble finding a decent place that would accept her aging cat. Eventually she did and within a little over a year she bought again… and then again…. Upgrading from a condo to a real "bricks and mortar”, the second home was a perfect opportunity for a basement tenant allowing her to landlord yet again. These past rental and landlording experiences set the bar for the eventual inception of Oro Properties. In 2010, after building her own investment portfolio, Cindy formed Oro Properties, a boutique real estate investment firm in the Greater Toronto Area where Cindy offers general consulting to anyone wanting to become a real estate investor or who needs advice renovating to maximize cashflow. Cindy immediately realized her investor clients had a spin-off requirement: finding gold standard, reliable tenants. Oro Properties' Tenant Find Services Division was born, initially with a focus on Toronto and later expanding to SE Mississauga & downtown Brampton. Fulfilling the promise to herself—and her cat—the company will only represent rentals that are smoke-free, lovingly maintained and for the most part, pet-friendly! After a few years in the business, and with more than 11 investment properties to her name, Wennerstrom could retire but declares that; “when you find what you love to do, you can't stop.” “It's not about money; it runs deeper than that. It's about having a product you're proud of and purpose you're passionate about,” says Wennerstrom. Courtney is a former English Professor, with a background in 18th-century literature, which includes some of the strangest and most perplexing fiction ever written. She loved her life as a scholar–especially working with students and still writes and geeks out over authors like Jane Austen, Charlotte Dacre, Ann Radcliffe, and the Marquis de Sade. Courtney is also a lifelong animal advocate and made helping animals her "naughty side project" during her dissertation. While teaching at Indiana University, Bloomington, she co-founded the first successful animal welfare organization on the campus. Since leaving academia, she has volunteered and worked in local and national animal welfare organizations, served as a Community Organizer for Pets for Life, and now the Regional Manager for the Central United States at Michelson Found Animals–a non-profit with a free microchip Registry dedicated to getting pets home, where they belong. Her goal is to channel her imaginative and analytical thinking skills into making the world a kinder, more beautiful place for animals.
Erika Wennerstrom, the lead of Heartless Bastards, released her debut solo album, “Sweet Unknown,” in March of 2018 on Partisan Records. Wennerstrom’s solo songs are built on the same blues and folk foundations as her songs with the Bastards, but her flirtations with both psychedelic sounds and pop sensibilities are both ambitious and clear on “Sweet Unknown.” Although the break with the band was mutual, Wennerstrom seems to be basking in newfound freedom, singing “I walk around this crowded town / I had to re-find my way / You know I couldn't remain the same / What it is, what it is, what it is / Don't fight the change within” on her song “Good to Be Alone.” Set List: Extraordinary Love Twisted Highway - interview - Staring Out the Window Letting Go Wennerstrom also performed a cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Be Here to Love Me" that is available on the WCPO Lounge Acts YouTube channel. -- Erika Wennerstrom's second WCPO Lounge Acts session was recorded on June 14, 2019 in the WCPO Digital Lounge in Cincinnati, OH. WCPO Lounge Acts features intimate in-studio performances and interviews from outstanding musical artists. Mixed by Brian Niesz. Hosted by Emmalee Smith.
Mary Wennerstrom is the Chairman of the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance that takes place the weekend after Memorial Day each year in Greenwich, CT. She is also the director of the legendary Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society that meets monthly at Sardi's Restaurant in Manhattan. Mary helped her mother-in-law, Genia, and her father-in-law, Bruce Wennerstrom with the Greenwich Concours since it began back in 1996. Genia passed away in 2011, and then Bruce passed in late 2015, and Mary has taken the reigns since that time. Raised in Greenwich with her 6 older brothers, Mary was exposed to cars and racing at an early age. When she met her husband, Leif, her love of cars grew even more. Together they continue the legacy of the concours and the chowder club that Bruce and Genia so greatly cherished.
The latest Kyle Meredith With... is a special triple episode, featuring three musicians — Brandi Carlile, Courtney Barnett, and Erika Wennerstrom — who all have brand-new records out recently. Carlile discusses her politically charged single, “The Joke”, and the idea of radical acceptance and forgiveness and revisits her album The Story. Barnett talks about the shift in her songwriting toward bigger worldwide issues, her tee shirt collection, and the chances of her and Jen Cloher (Australian singer-songwriter and Barnett’s wife) doing an album together in the future. Finally, Wennerstrom shares what it’s been like taking time away from the Heartless Bastards, how trips to faraway lands influenced the writing of her new record, and the mythos of the highway. Hello investor! I hope you all had as great a weekend as I did!!! My Friday and Saturday were spent with my wife Cherry and friend James Maggs at the Archangel Summit: a business and self development conference and it was excellent!! I’m fired up to do more, be more, help more!! I will summarize my notes and present them to you all at a later time. Happy birthday to my mom, the lovely woman who gave me life. A blessed life that I lead where I can take my mom to lunch on a Monday afternoon in a near empty restaurant as if it were a private, chefs table, just mom and I. We had a great meal but more importantly I had time to reconnect with mom about what it was like coming to Canada. My dad’s brother was the first to immigrate who then brought my dad to Saskatoon. Thank the powers that be he soon decided to move to Toronto as he found Saskatoon to be too cold. My mom followed on a student visa a few months later at the age of 19. For my fellow Canadians, imagine uprooting your life from a tropical climate to the frozen tundra that is Canada :P From a language barrier standpoint, we Canadians learn French much like students from Hong Kong learn English. It’s a start but if you’ve been to Quebec, you know how challenging it is to communicate. Anyways, thank goodness for real estate. My grandpa was able to provide my parents a downpayment on our first house in Scarborough, Ontario. The house was only $61,000 but my parents still had three mortgages. I don’t even know anyone personally who’s had a third mortgage. Seconds on primary residence are quite uncommon. At the time, my dad was still in University, I know because I was in the family pictures at dad’s graduation. They were quite broke. Out of necessity to pay the bills, my mom was the first real estate investor in the family. She AirBnb’d rooms in our home (before AirBnb even existed) for $50 per month plus $50 for food. Mom was cooking and cleaning for up to four house guests at a time. My mom has sacrificed and hustled a lot resulting the blessed lives my family and my kids now lead. Mom is now retired and can enjoy to the fruits of her labour and I get to now share my successes with her. What greater definition of success is there than giving back to your family? This November we’re bringing mom on a Caribbean cruise with us on a brand new ship in a room with a balcony. Paid for by our real estate. Not bad for a child of immigrants. How to Invest in Toronto and Actually Cash Flow with Cindy Wennerstrom-Wroblewski Yes it’s actually possible and Cindy is doing it. Cindy is a full time Real Estate Investor, Owner of Oro Properties and Consultant specializing in Toronto's South East End. With 17+ years experience in the rental and investment properties arena under her belt. Cindy is an old friend from REIN, the Real Estate Investment Network, she’s most famous for targeting high end tenants and renovating her properties accordingly to charge precedent setting, above market rents. We talk about how it all started, sweat equity, the Toronto market, mistakes, the earlier than expected transition from corporate to full time investor and lessons learned plus how and where she would invest today if she were to start all over. So without further ado, I give you Cindy Wennerstrom.

Erika Wennerstrom has visited our studio before with her Americana-rock band Heartless Bastards. This year, the singer and guitarist took a break from that band to release her debut solo album, "Sweet Unknown." Inspired by a trip to the Amazon rainforest, the record features a more psychedelic sound for Wennerstrom, whose robust vocals are always a riveting aspect of her music. Wennerstrom returned to the CPR Performance Studio last month before a show at Denver's Globe Hall. She played four songs and spoke with Alisha Sweeney about how taking a break from Heartless Bastards helped her songwriting, writing the album on a camping trip in West Texas and how she connects with people through music.
Erika Wennerstrom, the creative force behind Heartless Bastards, discusses growing up in Dayton Ohio, signing to Fat Possum Records, and her techniques for bringing a song to life.
This week Danielle Wennerstrom from Akekos joins Tanner and Jared at the table to drink a few coffee and milk stouts. Akekos is a local company helping businesses with brand and marketing development. We get down to it about beer branding and design, John Stamos, The Beach Boys, and the best cereals.

Since leaving the Cincinnati area a decade ago to live in the music mecca of Austin, Texas, Erika Wennerstrom has released four critically acclaimed albums with her band, including last year's Restless Ones. The group's signature mix of high energy rock and Wennerstrom's wailing, urgent vocals have made them one of today's most riveting live acts. But for this WCPO Lounge Acts session, Wennerstrom stripped it down to play three unreleased tracks that laid bare her emotions in a whole new way, digging into what she called her odes to "self love" and the search for, as she sings in the striking "Extraordinary Love," a place to call home."
Another great show with in studio guest Jamie "Darkside" Guida and we call Scotty Wennerstrom
Erika Wennerstrom sings and plays guitar and keyboards with the great Heartless Bastards, whose new album Restless Ones came out June 15th. Her band has threads of garage rock, blues and country — and the music of the great Texan singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard shares some of those same sounds. Wennerstrom and Hubbard are also fans of each other’s music, so we put them together for a Talkhouse Music Podcast and they dug deep into their songwriting process and had some laughs… and maybe a cry too.
Supercross goes back to Anaheim for race 3, black flags, and WENNERSTROM! Music by the UV Race!
