Shoot us a Text. It's the fifth Friday of the month heading into a holiday weekend, and we are covering how Carvana is launching a megasite, the latest on dealership buy/sell trends from Haig Partners, and a dealership delivery that ended in an arrest.Show Notes with links:Carvana is transforming the ADESA Kansas City location into its first "megasite," blending auto auctions with vehicle inspection and reconditioning. This move is set to create 200 new jobs in Belton, Missouri, further expanding Carvana's retail and wholesale operations. The megasite model is unique to Kansas City; other locations like ADESA Buffalo and Portland will remain online-only auctions, even though they were previously announced as incorporating recon operations.Carvana acquired the 56-site ADESA network in 2022 and is now integrating it into its operational infrastructure. The site began operations in August, with roles including technicians and logistics associates.Brian Boyd, SVP of Inventory at Carvana, stated, “As Carvana transitions to its long-term phase of driving profitable growth, we are excited to further tap into the power of our infrastructure by bringing inspection and reconditioning capabilities to more ADESA sites."Haig Partners has released its Q2 2024 Haig Report®, detailing a shift in the auto retail marketplace from record profits and high dealership values. The report highlights a 32% decline in dealership profits and evolving trends in buy-sell transactions.Average dealership pre-tax income in Q2 2024 was $1.0M, a 35% drop from Q2 2023.The number of dealerships sold in Q2 2024 is on track to decline 11% from 2023, but 2024 is still on track to be the 4th most active year for buy/sells.Blue sky values remain elevated but are down 11% from the end of 2023, still more than double pre-pandemic levels.Public auto retailers significantly reduced spending on domestic dealerships, with Lithia being the only active buyer.Quote from Alan Haig - “We know that many dealers who wanted to grow were sitting on the sidelines over the past few years as they waited for prices to fall. Now is the time to get up!”A viral TikTok video from Gossett Kia in Memphis shows a seemingly typical vehicle delivery that takes a surprising turn when the customer is arrested for identity theft. The customer, William Hayes, 63, faces charges of forgery and attempted theft, accused of using a deceased person's identity to fraudulently buy two Kia Tellurides worth $158,885.The video begins with the usual celebratory scene of a car purchase, including applause and congratulations, then abruptly cuts to the customer being handcuffed by police.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

BlackFacts.com presents the black fact of the day for July 1st.Roland Hayes named soloist with Boston Symphony Orchestra. He was the first African American singer to achieve success on the classical concert stage.Hayes was born in Curryville, Georgia, to Fanny and William Hayes, who were former slaves. He wanted an education, but he had to drop out of school to help support his family and worked at many jobs.He moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he found a job singing at a silent movie theater. He had to sing offstage so that people could hear his voice but not see his skin color. To earn money he went on a tour of black churches and colleges in the South. In 1917 he announced his second concert, which would be held in Boston's Symphony Hall. In 1920 Hayes performed his first European concert in London, England. While in London he received a message from King George and Queen Mary of England, requesting that he perform for them. He toured Europe several more times, singing in seven different languages, and by the late 1920s he had become the highest-paid tenor in the world. After the 1930s, Hayes stopped touring in Europe because the change in politics made it unfavorable to African Americans.Learn black history, teach black history at blackfacts.com

In this podcast episode, I have an inspiring conversation with Dr. William Hayes, a principal at Mastery High School in Camden, New Jersey. In this podcast, we have a very authentic and transparent conversation about how Dr. Hayes' lived experiences as a Black man have sharpened and shapened his trajectory and his work as being an educator, school leaders, and social change activist. In this conversation, we take a deeper dive as we explore · The contradictions of charter schools: charter schools as safe/affirming spaces for children of color vs charter schools as political machines · Unpacking some false narratives about success and failure within urban schools · The importance of educators having a strong sense of self and who they are · The necessity of school leaders addressing racialized systemic challenges and barriers that affect children in urban schools · The importance of African-centered education for Black children A key quote from Dr. Hayes that I want to highlight from this discussion is: “Being a student at Morehouse was the only time in my life when I did not have to negotiate Whiteness. I was free to explore my Blackness without the simultaneous consideration of Whiteness. I didn't have to suppress my identity exploration phase. I think that ability to test and try and explore your Blackness in a safe space in which you are constantly affirmed is a gift that many of our students and children and people of color don't get to experience. And that safe space to develop my own muscle and to develop my own efficacy was necessary for the work that I'm doing today”. About Dr. William Hayes: Dr. Hayes is a founding principal of Mastery High School in Camden, New Jersey. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA for undergrad and received his doctorate in educational leadership from Vanderbilt University. He taught in Boston, Massachusetts and was an AP in Boston before becoming a principal of an elementary school in Ohio. He can be contacted through his social media IG handle @speakhayes. A few days after his court hearing, Billy was transported in a red panel truck to the Bakirkoy mental hospital prison facility to begin his 17 days of observation. He and a group of other prisoners were unloaded and escorted into a reception area, where hospital attendants in dirty white smocks took Billy’s watch and the 100 lira note that he had to be stored securely. He was then escorted into the grounds toward Section 13, the home of the criminally insane, and his new home, at least for the moment.
Billy lay on the old, stained mattress that sat atop the steel frame bolted to the floor. He’d been imprisoned in a Turkish jail cell since October 1970, charged with drug possession. Although he had lawyers, his faith in their abilities and in the Turkish legal system had dwindled and was now practically non-existent. No one could tell him how long he’d remain a prisoner, no one knew for certain. But one thing he did know, was that he couldn’t stay in prison for much longer. The conditions were filthy and he had to remain constantly vigilant against the guards and other prisoners. He’d seen what they were capable of. Billy racked his brain, desperate for an idea. There had to be a way out of here.
Week 3 of the 2018 season is in the books and a new rule instituted in the off-season is tearing the league apart. It's just not the rule we were all expecting. Yahoo Sports' Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson open the podcast this week discussing the Clay Matthews hit, the William Hayes injury and how the NFL has completely botched the new "point of emphasis" of the roughing the passer penalty. Also on the show:- Do the Bucs keep starting Ryan Fitzpatrick? (12:30)- What is the trade market for Le'Veon Bell and Earl Thomas? (14:30)- Are Dallas and Oakland in rebuild mode? (24:00)- Why Miami-New England is the matchup of Week 4 (35:30) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Three weeks down and the biggest injury of the young NFL season happened in the Bay Area this week with star 49ers QB Jimmy "GQ" Garoppolo out for the season with an ACL tear. We break down San Fran's chances and the likely effect on the NFC playoff race. Elsewhere we breakdown the other major injuries this week (including one to William Hayes with implications for the controversial body weight rule), the latest trade rumours around Le'Veon Bell and Earl Thomas and the upcoming horror of a Maroon 5 half-time Super Bowl show. We also review Week 3 by looking at a classic NFC South shootout in Atlanta, rejoice in the new King of Cleveland finally striking down the Brown's depressing losing streak and do a quickfire review of some hard to watch upsets for the Jaguars, Patriots, Vikings and Packers. Then our listener questions are answered as always and we give our picks for Week 4. Injury has sadly robbed the NFL of one of its best (and most handsome) stars but at least you can brighten up your week with latest episode of the All Four Quarters Podcast. The “Beat L.A.” chant will be music to the ears of Los Angeles Rams fans when their team steps onto the field to take on storied rival, the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. The Rams and Niners have been doing battle with one another since 1950, but the rivalry lost a bit of its luster when the Rams moved to St. Louis—even though San Francisco’s Dana Stubblefield insisted that his former L.A. opponents were the “same old, sorry-ass Rams.” Joshua Neuman and Tunisha Singleton discuss the NFC West matchup and cast their official predictions for the 2016 NFL season. Plus, this week marked the season finale of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” an episode in which Mike Thomas got confused for Chris Rock, Jimmy Kimmel became William Hayes’ biggest fan, and all of us came to the startling realization that Russell Wilson and Ciara ain’t got shit on Case and Kimberly Keenum.
For over 21 years, the Los Angeles Rams were pure fantasy, existing mainly in memories and in movies. That all ended this past weekend when the L.A. Rams came from behind to defeat the Dallas Cowboys 28-24 in front of a record-breaking 89,140 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Joshua Neuman and Tunisha Singleton analyze the Rams performance as well as the second episode of “Hard Knocks” and the newfound spotlight on dinosaur-denier/mermaid-believer, William Hayes. Plus, we take a trip to the Golden Ram Barber Shop in Westminster, CA for an emotional discussion about what the first pre-season game meant to diehard L.A. Rams fans. So, don’t miss this truly watershed episode of The Greatest Show on Grass.
Brand NEW episode begins as we open the show and talk about our newest affiliates. Then the first of two monologues from The Livn Legend.
