Thanks for reading Broadway Drumming 101! This post is public so feel free to share it.In this episode of Broadway Drumming 101, host Clayton Craddock sits down with the incredibly talented drummer Jaylen Petinaud to discuss his journey from an eager young musician introducing himself at LaGuardia High School to playing with Herbie Hancock and holding the drum chair for Hell's Kitchen on Broadway.Jaylen shares stories about his early aspirations of playing in the NBA, how his love for music eventually won out, and his experiences at SUNY Purchase, where he studied both jazz and economics. He takes us through his path from jam sessions at Smalls and New Blue to working with artists like Kenny Seymour (For Colored Girls, The Harder They Come) and his pivotal mentorship with Zane Mark that introduced him to the world of theater.Jaylen talks about the moment he received a life-changing call from Herbie Hancock, his approach to preparing for the gig, and the whirlwind experience of balancing Broadway, jazz, and international touring. He also discusses what it was like auditioning for Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen, getting the approval of Adam Blackstone and Alicia Keys herself, and his first experience playing on electronic drums for the show. From studying Tony Williams and Jeff "Tain" Watts to working with Terrence Blanchard, Jaylen offers insights into developing his unique voice on the drums, handling the pressures of high-level gigs, and the importance of always being ready for the unexpected. This is an inspiring conversation for anyone looking to break into Broadway drumming, navigate the jazz scene, or just hear an incredible success story of a young drummer making waves in the music industry.

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we go mega! On this super-sized edition of the show, the last one before Election Day and the episode that opens three days of advanced polling, we will profile the three candidates we haven't covered yet. From the long-time campaigner running for the governing party, to an upstart trying to rebuild a Liberal stronghold, and a new face for a new party! This Thursday, February 20, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: Be Coole. You may not know Robert Coole, but he's been doing politics in Guelph for a long-time as a reliable and seasoned campaigner for local Conservatives, but now, he's in the spotlight as the PC Party candidate in this provincial election. Coole will join us to talk about why Guelph needs a voice in the next PC government, and why he's taking the spotlight after years of playing in politics behind the scenes. Mustafa: The Liberal Candidate. There are a lot of young people running for the Ontario Liberals, and Mustafa Zuberi is one of them. Pretty well established in local politics thanks to his years running the Young Liberals at the University of Guelph, Zuberi now aims to be the next MPP from this riding and part of a Bonnie Crombie government. He will tell us why the Liberals are ready to run Ontario again. If the Blue Fits... Just when it looked like there would be no emerging party candidates running in Guelph this election, we get the arrival of Carina Fraser. The author and single mother is running for New Blue, which, as the name implies, is an alternative to the PCs aiming to collect the ones turned off by Doug Ford and not willing to bank on one of the other major parties. Fraser will tells us why you shouldn't sleep on the New Blue. Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
According to the latest polls, the governing PCs might be in minority government territory, and the spoiler might be a revitalized Liberal Party. In Wellington-Halton Hills it will be a big climb because while this seat is open, the Liberals finished fourth in a close race for second in 2022. Is there the possibility that without Ted Arnott on the ballot that voters might be willing to take a closer look at the man from Acton? When he was last elected in 2022, Arnott won more votes than the NDP, Greens, Liberals, and New Blue combined. Incumbency has its advantages, but so does longevity. How many people in Wellington-Halton Hills were voting for Arnott out of sheer habit? For 34 years at the Ontario legislature, Ted Arnott was always there. In fact, for some people living in Halton Hills and some parts of Wellington, Ted Arnott is the only MPP they've ever known Alex Hilson is one of those people. It's interesting to note that two of the people running to replace Arnott are Halton Hills councillors. Hilson represents Ward 1 in Acton, and has been running a pretty solid social media campaign during this election. He's a people person, as his background working with youth and the Acton BIA might imply, but will the people be willing to take a chance on him as part of a new Liberal dynasty? Hilson join us to answer that question and more. He will talk about his background, why youth matters right now in Halton Hills politics, and how his experience as a city councillor informed his desire to run for provincial office. We will also talk about the Liberal comeback under Bonnie Crombie, and what the Liberals need to do in order to earn the trust of the electorate again. Plus what issues is Hilson personally concerned about? So let's talk about a Liberal comeback on this episode of the Wellington-Halton Hills Politicast! You can learn more about Alex Hilson and his campaign at this website. For the interviews with the candidates running in the riding of Guelph this provincial election, you can check out Open Sources Guelph. Election Days is this Thursday, February 27, and we will be going live to air with the CFRU News Team that night with election results and analysis starting at 8 pm on CFRU 93.3 fm or cfru.ca. My guest this week is Jim Karahalios, Leader of the New Blue Party of Ontario. We discuss Doug Ford's snap election and the need for prolife, profamily, profreedom Ontarians to think outside the box in this election and not give a rubber stamp to the failed liberal policies of Doug Ford's PC Party. We discuss the need for debt and deficit reduction, the New Blue's efforts to promote and protect parental rights and to stop the ‘woke' agenda in public schools. We also touch on the collapse of democratic, grass-roots procedures within the PC internal organization itself. To learn more about Jim and Belinda Karahalios and the New Blue team, visit: https://www.newblueontario.com

As you may have heard, there are changes coming to your blue bin starting in January, and if you're confused about what that means when you put the bin out on the curb in 2025, you're not alone. You probably want to know what's going on, and how you should react, so due to popular demand, this podcast will ask all the questions about blue box changes you wanted to know, and some of the ones you didn't. Guelph has a history of making history when it comes to the blue box: We were one of the first cities to get one, and we were one of the first cities to make the transition to three streams of waste, and we were one of the first to make the transition to the new bin system. What's next is the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, which is moving the responsibility of collecting recyclables to the producers of those materials. Starting on January 1, 2025, Waste Management Corporation of Canada (WM) will be collecting residential recycling and providing related customer service in Guelph. As you will hear today, you probably won't notice a lot of change to start, but 2025 will be a transition year for not only who collects your blue bin, but what you will be able to put inside it and who else might now get service as WM takes over for the City of Guelph. To understand all this, we're joined by Cameron Walsh, the Division Manager of Solid Waste at the City of Guelph, who will tell you what happens on January 2 when you put your recyclables out on the curb. He will also talk about the process the City has been undertaking to facilitate these changes, what will happen over the course of 2025, the ongoing review of collection downtown, and the impacts on the City's fiscal bottom line. Also, what will the future of waste collection in Guelph look like after 2025? So let's dig into the blue box on this week's Guelph Politicast! You can learn more about the changes coming to the collection of recyclables next year at guelph.ca/waste, where you can also find links to the Solid Waste Master Plan, and other info. Also, if you have any questions, send emails directly to waste [at] guelph.ca. You can also download the Guelph Waste app from the App Store and Google Play, it not only sends you reminders about garbage day, but it can help you sort your waste. The host for the Guelph Politicast is Podbean. Find more episodes of the Politicast here, or download them on your favourite podcast app at Apple, TuneIn and Spotify. Anjan suffered from eye strain and disrupted sleep cycles, as well as worsening of ADHD symptoms from using modern computers. Resolving to do something about this, Anjan committed to reading only from paper which meant he had to print everything he wanted to read from a computer screen. He soon missed the convenience of computers. He became more enthralled with e-ink, buying and testing every e-ink device on the market. Finding these products were too slow to function as helpful, productive tools, Anjan hacked e-ink devices. Yet, they were too slow and ineffective to serve more practical computing needs. This journey led to Anjan innovating screen technology specifically suited for eye health and circadian rhythm preservation. Additionally, Anjan developed a vision for an entire operating system that prioritizes holistic health. After developing his first prototype, Anjan navigated the challenges of bringing the device to production. Through the long journey and the successful launch of Daylight's first product, Anjan has received overwhelming feedback of the life-changing effect of his product and vision. Thousands resonate with Anjan's belief in the potential for technology to enhance rather than detract from people's well-being. Daylight's goal is to offer alternative technology solutions that support your health, attention, freedom, and quest to live a more balanced life. Can investing in our Oceans save our Planet? Have you ever heard of the Blue Economy? Do you know how much of the carbon we create or heat we create, gets absorbed by the ocean? Have you ever seen the “Colossal Squid”?- because our guest is on a lifelong mission to find it and film it in it's natural environment. The ocean covers 70% of the planet, but very little of our historic innovations in energy or technology comes from our Oceans. Matt Mulrennan, Director of Investments at the Sustainable Ocean Alliance and it's sister Fund, Seabird Ventures joins Rob to go deep into the emerging field of ocean investing and how sustainable solutions are shaping the blue economy alongside our fast growing “Green Economy.” Matt teaches a masterclass on some incredible data and history, of mammals, other ocean species, the importance of the ocean in our climate crisis, the massive value of the Ocean in our economy, and his own career arc from Expeditionary researcher to Ocean-Blue Economy investor. He tells a few stories of adventurous expeditions he's led in marine preservation across some of the earths most remote places, such as Antarctica, while educating us on the ocean's role in climate regulation and food production. He teaches us that the ocean's impact on our lives and our economies is massive, yet it's just beginning to be explored as an investment frontier. Discover the collaborative efforts driving this new economy and why Los Angeles, California may be its next hub. Shoot us a Text. It's the fifth Friday of the month heading into a holiday weekend, and we are covering how Carvana is launching a megasite, the latest on dealership buy/sell trends from Haig Partners, and a dealership delivery that ended in an arrest.Show Notes with links:Carvana is transforming the ADESA Kansas City location into its first "megasite," blending auto auctions with vehicle inspection and reconditioning. This move is set to create 200 new jobs in Belton, Missouri, further expanding Carvana's retail and wholesale operations. The megasite model is unique to Kansas City; other locations like ADESA Buffalo and Portland will remain online-only auctions, even though they were previously announced as incorporating recon operations.Carvana acquired the 56-site ADESA network in 2022 and is now integrating it into its operational infrastructure. The site began operations in August, with roles including technicians and logistics associates.Brian Boyd, SVP of Inventory at Carvana, stated, “As Carvana transitions to its long-term phase of driving profitable growth, we are excited to further tap into the power of our infrastructure by bringing inspection and reconditioning capabilities to more ADESA sites."Haig Partners has released its Q2 2024 Haig Report®, detailing a shift in the auto retail marketplace from record profits and high dealership values. The report highlights a 32% decline in dealership profits and evolving trends in buy-sell transactions.Average dealership pre-tax income in Q2 2024 was $1.0M, a 35% drop from Q2 2023.The number of dealerships sold in Q2 2024 is on track to decline 11% from 2023, but 2024 is still on track to be the 4th most active year for buy/sells.Blue sky values remain elevated but are down 11% from the end of 2023, still more than double pre-pandemic levels.Public auto retailers significantly reduced spending on domestic dealerships, with Lithia being the only active buyer.Quote from Alan Haig - “We know that many dealers who wanted to grow were sitting on the sidelines over the past few years as they waited for prices to fall. Now is the time to get up!”A viral TikTok video from Gossett Kia in Memphis shows a seemingly typical vehicle delivery that takes a surprising turn when the customer is arrested for identity theft. The customer, William Hayes, 63, faces charges of forgery and attempted theft, accused of using a deceased person's identity to fraudulently buy two Kia Tellurides worth $158,885.The video begins with the usual celebratory scene of a car purchase, including applause and congratulations, then abruptly cuts to the customer being handcuffed by police.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email
