On this episode, host Wisdom Moon talks with singer-songwriter Ben Compton about the inspiration behind his song "Mystery." Ben opens up about navigating seasons of uncertainty and walking in faith when God's path feels unclear - the place of mystery when you feel called to a new chapter but don't know where you're headed. Ben also discusses blending his musical influences of country storytelling with gospel roots by using acoustic guitar yet incorporating a choir on the track. He gives insight into his DIY recording process of layering different vocal takes and even having his wife contribute backup vocals. Ben Compton is a husband, father and pastor from Wisconsin. He loves to tell stories through songs and connect with people where they're at. He grew up as a pastors kid in a Pentecostal church in Michigan which shaped his love for gospel and soulful music, and naturally country music was always on the radio on the way home from church. Ben has created a unique, fun, and honest sound with his music, and he makes it for his kids to listen to as they grow up. He hopes it's something they go to when he's gone. Wisdom Moon has an open and honest conversation with Natural State members, Haley and Dell, about their journey as independent artists and what it looks like to serve humbly, steward their talents well, and continue pursuing their relationship with Jesus above all else. Natural State evokes so much meaning spiritually. There is a void inside us all that calls out for our Creator. There's a need that we are met with at some point in life that longs for a Savior. There is a purpose for each of us here on this earth to be lived out and fulfilled. This is how we were created from the beginning: to know and love God, to love and serve others. That is the state that God wants us to live in with Him, our original, natural state. Lead vocalist, Haley, explains “It doesn't always come naturally for us to love God with all of our heart. But I desire for our music to authentically point people to Jesus, our Hope.” Chattanooga based, Natural State, says their music comes from a love of their creator and a love of creating for Him. God is the central figure of everything they write whether it is about joy or love, doubt or disappointment. The music has elements of pop, rock and worship with lyrics meant to lead you to a state of wonder and worship to God.
