It's Thursday, June 20th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark 11 Christians released from prison in India Praise God! A law firm in India secured the release of 11 Christians from prison last week. They had faced detention since 2022 under anti-conversion laws. The law firm specifically works with persecuted Christians. The 11 believers included several pastors as well as converts out of Hinduism. Nearly half of India's states have anti-conversion laws. Christians often face targeted oppression and false charges under the laws. Since 2020, officials have jailed hundreds of Christians.  According to Open Doors, India is the 11th most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Hungary is allowed to ban assisted suicide Last Thursday, the European Court of Human Rights upheld Hungary's ban on assisted suicide.  A Hungarian national challenged the ban after having been diagnosed with a progressive neurodegenerative condition. However, the court ruled that Hungary's ban on assisted suicide is in line with its duty to protect life. Jean-Paul Van De Walle with Alliance Defending Freedom International said, “We applaud today's decision ... which upholds Hungary's essential human rights protections. ... Instead of abandoning our most vulnerable citizens, society should do all it can to provide the best standards of care.”  Christian baker's refusal to make cake celebrating incorrect gender In the United States, Christian baker Jack Phillips is defending himself again before the Colorado Supreme Court. Phillips' latest case is over his refusal to make a cake in celebration of someone pretending to be the opposite sex. Twenty-three states and six Colorado legislators have filed briefs with the court in favor of Phillips. On Tuesday, he said, “I will not create a cake expressing any message that violates my religious beliefs regardless of who asks for it. ... Over the last ten years, Colorado officials and activists have tried to punish me for my religious beliefs.” Psalm 14:4 asks, “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD?” Federal court vs. Biden on abortion On Monday, a federal court in Louisiana ruled against the Biden administration in an abortion case. The court protected the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and other Catholic organizations from having to cover abortions for employees. Laura Slavis with Becket Law said the Biden administration “twisted a law protecting expecting mothers and their babies and co-opted the workplaces of over 130 million Americans to support abortion. That is an abuse of power. … No one should have to choose between their conscience and protecting pregnant women.” Louisiana: First state requiring Ten Commandments in public schools Louisiana is now the first state to require public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom. Republican Governor Jeff Landry signed the bill into law yesterday. The legislation applies to state-funded universities. It also allows schools to display the Mayflower Compact and the Declaration of Independence.  Republican state Representative Dodie Horton authored the bill. She said, “I hope and I pray that Louisiana is the first state to allow moral code to be placed back in the classrooms. Since I was in kindergarten [at a private school], it was always on the wall. I learned there was a God, and I knew to honor Him and His laws.” Deuteronomy 6:7 and 9 says of God's commandments, “You shall teach them diligently to your children. … You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Mortgage rates fell below 7% Last week, for the first time since March, mortgage rates fell below 7%. Thirty-year fixed mortgage rates fell from 7.02% to 6.94%. And five-year adjustable-rate mortgages fell from 6.45% to 6.27%.  At the same time, mortgage applications are rising. The Mortgage Bankers Association noted “purchase volume is still more than 10% behind last year's pace,” but they are “forecasting a pickup in home sales for the remainder of the year as more inventory is hitting the market.” Nvidia: Mist valuable company worldwide American tech company Nvidia is now the most valuable company in the world. It produces most of the semiconductor chips used by Artificial Intelligence technology. Nvidia's market capitalization surpassed $3 trillion earlier this month, becoming more valuable than Apple. On Tuesday, Nvidia's valuation rose to $3.33 trillion, surpassing Microsoft.  Nvidia's valuation was about $1 trillion a year ago, and has grown over 170% this year alone. 103-year-old World War II veteran prays daily A World War II veteran is still going strong at the age of 103. Ralph Conte was drafted at the age of 21. He served in the U.S. Army across nine countries in Europe during World War II. He received a Purple Heart after being struck by shrapnel.  Conte married "the love of his life," Veronica Sarubbi, in 1943. They had five children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Conte went on to open his own photography business. His granddaughter Jessica Graf told Fox News Digital, “Even at 103, he still has an eye for a sharp picture. … My grandfather inspires me every day to keep moving, live in the moment, and not worry about things that are out of our control.” She said he has a “deep faith in God” and “continues to pray daily.”  10 Worldview listeners donated $2,615 And finally, toward our $63,000 goal by this Saturday, June 22nd – the three-week mark of our month-long fundraiser – 10 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate to help fund our 6-member team for another fiscal year. It's Thursday, December 21st, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark English court upheld censorship zone at abortion mill A high court in England upheld a town's censorship zone around an abortion mill last week. The buffer zone bans activities like prayer and Bible reading. Livia Tossici-Bolt with 40 Days for Life Bournemouth, located 94 miles southwest of London, was challenging the buffer zone with the help of the Christian Legal Centre. They plan on appealing the decision. After the ruling, she said, “Everyone must have the freedom to pray quietly in a public place. … We are very disappointed by the judge's ruling and will continue to support women in crisis pregnancies and will continue to fight for justice.” Isaiah 10:1 says, “Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees.” Spanish Evangelicals growing in number In Spain, evangelicalism continues to grow, according to Evangelism in Depth. The historically Catholic country has reached 1,000 municipalities with an Evangelical church. Since 2011, the number of Evangelical places of worship in Spain has grown from about 3,000 to nearly 4,500. Máximo Álvarez with Evangelism in Depth explained the rapid growth. He said, “For many decades there have been churches and ministries with this vision of planting churches where there is still no Evangelical place of worship.” Fewer younger voters support Biden In the United States, young voters are dropping support for President Joe Biden. A New York Times/Siena College poll found 49% of voters aged 18 to 29 support former president Donald Trump, while only 43% support Biden. It's the first time Trump has led Biden among young voters since Biden took office. A poll from NBC News last month found similar results. Overall, Biden's approval rating stands at 37%. For young voters, it's even worse. Only 26% of them approve of Biden. IRS offering $1 billion in penalty relief The Internal Revenue Service announced Tuesday it is providing about $1 billion in penalty relief. The relief will affect 4.7 million individuals, businesses, and tax-exempt groups for returns filed in 2020 and 2021. The IRS plans to resume collection notices next year after a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.  America's population grew primarily from migrants New data from the U.S. Census Bureau found America's population grew by 1.6 million this year. Most of the growth came from migration. It's the second year in a row that immigration fueled population growth.  There were also about 300,000 fewer deaths this year compared with last year. The vast majority of this year's growth was in the South. Florida and South Carolina led in terms of growth rates while New York had the biggest rate of population decline. United Methodist Church ripped asunder over homosexuality The United Methodist Church (UMC) has lost a quarter of its 30,000 congregations since 2019. Over 5,000 of the departures occurred this year alone. A deadline for disaffiliation is set for the end of the year. The final departures represent decades of debates in the denomination. Christianity Today dubbed it the “largest denominational divide in the United States since the Civil War.” Churches are leaving over the UMC's drift towards supporting sexually perverted lifestyles. Many are joining the Global Methodist Church which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. 103-year-old World War II veteran's advice: “Pray every night!” And finally, a California World War II veteran shared his story with Fox News recently after turning 103 last month. Sam Avolicino was born in southern Italy in 1920. His family emigrated to the U.S. when he was just three months old. He grew up in the Bay Area and has lived there for over 100 years. During World War II, Avolicino volunteered in the Army Air Force. After the war, he married his wife Agnes. They've been happily together for nearly 72 years. They have four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Avolicino gave some particular advice for young people these days. He said, “I recommend all children pick up on God, start to believe in the hereafter, and go to church. Pray every night. God's been the most important person in my life. Respect your parents and listen to your parents. Don't let outside influences get to you, which is very difficult today.” Ephesians 6:1-3 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother' (this is the first commandment with a promise), ‘that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.'” At 103 years of age, Sam Avolicino, who prioritized honoring his mother and father, has been blessed by a long life indeed. We sit down with guest Ed Zirkle, a veteran and photographer. Ed begins by sharing that his involvement with a TED Talk on PTSD has led him to conduct extensive background research on the topic. He emphasizes that PTSD affects only a small percentage of people, particularly veterans, and is often considered an invisible wound.Ed's primary goal is to help people understand what PTSD is from both the perspective of those who have it and those who interact with them. However, unlike some individuals with disabilities, he does not want to announce or openly display his own experiences with PTSD. He also mentions that he is grateful for the support he receives from the VA, including a monthly check, which allows him the independence and resources to pursue his passion for photography. As a photographer, Ed sees himself as a documentarian. Currently, he is focused on documenting the stories of World War II veterans through portraits and interviews. He aims to capture their lives and experiences, ensuring that their stories are preserved for future generations. Once he has completed this project, he plans to seek out current serving frontline soldiers to document their stories as well.In the late 1960s, Ed landed an internship at the Louisville Courier-Journal. He considers himself fortunate to have worked with prominent figures in club journalism, such as Bill Stroud, Thomas Harden, and Billy Lester. Eventually, he joined the Evansville Sunday Courier and Press, where he had a memorable encounter with a professional photographer who caught his attention while using an Instamatic camera.Ed also shares a fascinating and unexpected experience during his time at Fort Bragg. He recounts a theft of a "gamma goat" from a medical vehicle on-post, which resulted in a high-speed pursuit involving MPs, sheriff units, and state police. As a photographer, Ed was tasked with photographing the minimal damage to the vehicle after the thief was stopped and apprehended. Little did he know at the time that he was experiencing symptoms of PTSD, including bad dreams and a feeling that something wasn't right.Throughout the episode, Ed highlights the freedoms he enjoyed as a photojournalist, including access to police and fire training and the trust and close relationship he had with law enforcement. He acknowledges that these freedoms may have been influenced by his time in the service, where his photos frequently made front-page news.Ed also touches on his experiences documenting different cultures, such as Indigenous communities, rodeos, and religious events. He expresses concern about the indoctrination of children into cult-like religions and highlights the importance of preserving one's cultural roots.Towards the end of the episode, Ed discusses the limited resources available to veterans and the importance of mentorship. He aims to be a mentor to other veterans, offering workshops and guidance to help them navigate the world of photography. We would love to hear from you.Give us your feedback, or suggest a topic, by leaving us a voice message.Email us at hello@lookingforwardourway.com.Find us on Facebook. Please review our podcast on Google! And of course, everything can be found on our website, Looking Forward Our Way.Recorded in Studio C at

He would spend the next five and half months involved in terrible jungle fighting, capturing 47 different ridges from 100,000 Japanese. “My mortar tube was 45 pounds and my pack was 50 pounds, plus my weapon.   That made for some difficult climbing.” Despite the fact that he had many comrades killed to the left and right of him, Sciarra says his only injury was nearly knocking out his front teeth when the hit the ground a little too hard during shelling. After being ordered to venture ahead of the company in order to draw enemy fire, Sciarra vented his anger at the Lieutenant after the patrol. “I didn't care if he court martialed me, I had to tell him off”.  Sciarra and that Lt. would become close friends. Following the Japanese surrender he was assigned as part of the mainland occupation forces. He says it was surprising how courteously the Japanese people treated him. Sciarra suffered from the effects of malaria for a long time after returning home and faced numerous challenges securing his Veteran benefits because many of the records had been destroyed. He finally had to personally travel to Hawaii in order to secure proof of his service. TAKEAWAY: “I want these messages about what our guys went through to be known all across the country. Even though it has been 80 years I still think about all the men in my platoon who didn't make it.”

Little did I know that volunteering for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight seven years ago would lead me to starting HHAUSA. Such are the plans of God that are so much higher than anything we could ever dream up on our own.For those not familiar with the Honor Flight, it is a nonprofit organization that sends World War II, Korea and Vietnam Veterans on an all expense paid trip to Washington DC to visit the memorials erected in their honor. Having been on the flight six times as a  guardian, I can say that it is one of the best days of my life and I cannot imagine the emotions felt by our Veterans.I am blessed and honored to have Earl Morse, Veteran and Physician Assistant and Co-Founder of the Honor Flight Network joining me on this very special 100th episode of The HHAUSA Podcast.Starting to see an influx of World War II Veterans during his practice in the early to mid 2000's, Morse would ask all of them if they had plans to visit the newly constructed World War II Memorial in Washington DC that was built in their honor. Getting far more nos than yeses, Earl felt compelled to take matters into his own hands and the rest, as they say, is history.I'd like the conversation to speak for itself so won't dive much further into the details of a podcast I have looked forward to for the better part of two years. Suffice it to say, with over 130 chapters across the United States and now in access of 250,000 Veterans flown to our nation's capital to see the memorials, the Honor Flight Network has changed countless lives and will continue to do so for decades to come.Earl, thank you for your service and for being a light to so many. I look forward to the day that we can break bread together, swap stories and give thanks for the many blessings that we have been given by the God we serve. To learn more about the Honor Flight, visit www.honorflight.orgYou can also find Earl Morse on Facebook or email him at founder@honorflight.orgFor more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com

Dozens of people gathered throughout Richmond International Airport Wednesday to give a grand sendoff to a group of World War Two veterans. The veterans, around 20 plus their family members, were a part of the Gary Sinise Foundation's "Soaring Valor" program that takes veterans to the National World War Two Museum where their oral histories will be recorded. The program was inspired by Sinise's Uncle Jack, a WWII veteran, who visited the museum with him and whose oral history was given to Sinise after he passed in 2014. This was the program's 22nd flight of WWII veterans and the first to take off from...Article LinkSupport the show

If you are fortunate, you've had the opportunity to know or meet a World War II Veteran. With those still living well into their 90's, these national treasures are few and far between and as part of The Greatest Generation, helped change the fate of the world nearly 80 years ago.Dave Morse was blessed to spend many days of his childhood with his grandfather, who served in World War II. With his father being a Vietnam Veteran, service was something instilled in the young boy at an early age and he knew that he too wanted to serve his country when he grew up.Being from the Midwest, it was only natural that the two elder Morses took young David to the blind and he was bitten by the waterfowl bug not long after he learned to ride a bike. A man of integrity and strong faith, Dave credits his late grandfather for the man he has become as he continues to serve in the Minnesota National Guard. An unexpected deployment to Iraq shortly after his college career began, the then 19 year old grew up in a hurry and is thankful for his time in the desert. Unfortunately, like so many who fought the Global War on Terrorism, too many of his fellow soldiers were lost to suicide after returning home and Morse was led to do something about it.In 2008, Dave began getting some of his friends struggling with PTSD into hunting and fishing and instantly saw the life changing benefits of those experiences. Starting the Wounded Warriors Guide Service in 2009, his passion for the outdoors would lead to an opportunity to start American Heroes Outdoors TV a few short years later. Working as a manager at Grand Forks Scheels, the dots connected quickly and the show continues to impact the lives of the Military, Law Enforcement and First Responder communities today. In the summer of 2022, emails led to phone calls which culminated in an invitation to HHAUSA Mission 24 last month outside of Madison to Dave and three other Minnesota National Guardsmen. The quartet competed and won the team event at The Beastmode Archery Endurance Race. They thoroughly enjoyed their weekend and plan to return in 2024 as their mission grows.I am blessed to now call Dave Morse a friend, a brother in Christ, and look forward to continue working together to make a difference. It sounds redundant but I feel like our respective organizations are just getting started and the sky is truly the limit to what we can do together. To learn more about American Heroes Outdoors TV, visit their website at https://www.americanheroesoutdoors.com and check them out on Bally Sports North, Midco Sports, Waypoint TV, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. For more information about HHAUSA and how you can support our mission, visit www.hhausa.orgTo purchases HHAUSA hats, shirts, challenge coins and tumblers, visit www.hhasports.com

I had the amazing priviliege of being able to interview, Lou Cinfici, a World War II Veteran on my podcast, and it was all possible because of the curosity and passion of Tyler Boland.  Tyler (19 years old) is on a quest to document via audio and video, the stories of 100 World War II Veterans.  What's funny is he's already past the 100 mark and he's NOT going to Stop! Tyler tells his story of what inspired him to do this and the passion he has for talking to as many WWII Vets as possible before the stories fade, along with the brave men and women that made up "The Greatest Generation".  Lou shares stories of his time serving our country, as he went on to also serve in the Korean War and Vietnam War.   Lou is one of 9 brothers and 2 sisters... amazingly enough all of his brothers served in WWII also.  The friendship that has developed between Lou, almost 95 years old and Tyler at 19, gives hope, that even though they are generations apart, there's respect and admiration that goes both ways.   I'm proud of Tyler for what he's doing and of course I can't thank Lou enough for all the sacrifices he (and his family) has made for our country.    ---The Real Estate and You Podcast is your Thursday Afternoon connection to all thing's real estate. Serving is something that runs in Chris Berkers' family. His father was in during the Bay of Pigs in the late 1950's, Chris himself served in the Navy from 1997 to 2002 and his daughter is currently in the National Guard.Starting as a guardian for a World War II Veteran in the early days of Old Glory, Berkers was hooked and it wasn't long before he began taking on a more active roll that culminated into his current position as President. A dentist living in Appleton Wisconsin, Chris and I talk about how little it takes to say thank you and just how special the mission of Honor Flight is to our Veterans. With several groundbreaking trips, Old Glory has set itself apart from other branches across the country. Their Return To Pearl trip in 2011 (taking 19 WWII Veterans back to Pearl Harbor) and Return To Nam (taking 52 Vietnam Veterans back to Vietnam) in 2019 are among Berkers' favorites. OGHF covers Northeastern Wisconsin and has always done things a little differently than other Honor Flights and I was able to experience flying with them out of Oshkosh and the EAA AirVenture in July. Travelling with 99 Vietnam Veterans as part of a Yellow Ribbon Flight, it was an unforgettable day for everyone fortunate enough to be a part of it. Recognizing the need to come along our GWOT (Global War On Terrorism) Veterans, plans are in the works for an event with them in the near future as well.Like everyone that I have worked with in the Honor Flight family the past seven years, Chris Berkers has a contagious energy about him and lives and breathes all things Honor Flight. It's that passion that enables this amazing organization to deliver an experience of a lifetime to our Veterans and their families, showing them the recognition and gratitude that they so deserve.Personally, I am excited to be a small part of the Old Glory Honor Flight family, to call Chris a friend and to see what the future holds for this amazing organization.
