How important is nutrition when it comes to hair health? Charlotte Lucas was a Pharmacist with the NHS for 25 years, and she became a little disillusioned with the general lack of preventative action in medicine. She has now completed a master's in nutrition. She believes that many chronic health conditions could be managed and treated in a better way, and our body is an ecosystem. Charlotte shares that nutrition plays a huge part in relation to health, and having experienced hair loss twice herself, once as a teenager during her GCSE's, and then later during menopause too.She uses a combination of functional medicine, nutritional medicine and pharmaceutical medicine. We look at how inflammation can affect hair loss and autoimmune conditions, as she states that 75-80% of the immune system is located in the gut, and our microbiome impacts so many aspects of our health.Connect with Charlotte:InstagramWebsiteStudyRavenous bookDucas cooks Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the showConnect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!

Hair transplantation ~ Navigating the industry from a patient's perspective Spencer Stevenson is an advocate who approaches hair transplantation from the unique perspective of a patient, having had multiple hair transplant surgeries himself.Through his own mistakes he has learned a great deal, and works hard to help prevent others from being conned or suffering from unethical practices. He knows first hand that the hair transplant industry is not always ethical, and it is important to carry out due diligence and research well before any transplant or procedure. When spencer was young, he had tons of hair, and this was part of his identity. By the time he was 21, he had began to recede, and by the time he was 24, he had become so self-conscious that he began to become reclusive & depressed. He avoided social situations & missed out on important events. He tried a hair system, and minoxidil but still wasn't happy. He saw an advert and thought all his prayers had been answered, but this was the start of a long and arduous journey to regain more hair. Spencer now helps to advise others on what is best for them, helping them to avoid the pitfalls and negatives of the industry.Connect with Spencer:WebsiteInstagramThe bald truth podcastHair Transplant | IAHRS Hair Restoration SurgeonsJAAQ Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the Show.Connect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!

Supporting hair growth through chemical burns, scarring alopecia and menopause. Angela Fields is from Florida. She first experienced issues with her hair when she suffered from chemical burns, following the use of relaxer to straighten her hair. She then began to experience thinning in perimenopause, and discovered that she had a deficiency in Vitamin D. After these issues were resolved, she then developed a scarring condition, central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, known as CCCA, and has had to undergo scalp injections and biopsies to help to identify and treat this . Hair health at this point became extremely important to Angela, but, as she has an allergy to fragrances, she found that she was unable to use 96- 98% of haircare on the market that contains fragrance. She decided to make something for herself in her kitchen, but after being laid off from her job in the corporate world she was pushed to take the product range to market. She now works to help & support those with hair health concerns, particularly leading up to the menopause, and has created a supportive community where she offers education and advice. What happens when Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia goes undiagnosed Lesley Rutter lives in Newcastle, around 10 years ago, at the age of 40, she began to notice severe hair shedding. The front of her hair began to be itchy, her hair follicles became raised & inflamed, and her hairline began to recede away. She went to the doctor, and he told her it was just stress related,, and it would go away on its own. She returned to various doctors over a period of six years, where she was repeatedly sent away and told that it was just because of stress. She was left undiagnosed, not knowing where to turn or what she could do to treat her condition. She had bouts of severe shedding, including loss of eyebrows and lashes, which means her eyes are constantly itchy.Eventually, a nurse noticed that her confidence was being severely affected, and that this was having an impact on her life, and encouraged her to advocate for herself and demand to be referred for treatment. This led to her being sent to a dermatologist, who finally diagnosed her with FFA. By this time, however, she had lost around two inches of her hairline, and was shocked to discover that this would not be reversible. She now has a treatment plan, and has made connections with others, who can understand what she is going through, which she says has made a huge difference.Brain aneurism UK Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the Show.Connect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!
