Expectations and Authenticity: Navigating Friendships, Joy and More featuring Dr. Rebekah Tennyson

Send us a Text Message. In this episode of the Love, Laugh, Let it Go podcast, I hang out with Dr. Rebekah Tennyson, a clinical psychologist from the UK and an Enneagram 2 who loves music, coffee, pastries, and Disney movies. Even though Rebekah and I have never met, chatting with her feels just like catching up with an old friend. We talk about the struggles women face when trying to take up space without being labeled "difficult." Rebekah shares her journey of doing what was expected of her and how she fit into those neat little boxes society loves. We dig into people-pleasing and how she's working on breaking free from that habit.Friendships come up a lot in our chat, too. We talk about how they evolve from childhood to adulthood and the importance of being intentional with our connections. Rebekah reminds us that some people are in our lives for a reason, a season, or forever, and keeping those relationships strong takes effort and communication. As an Enneagram 2, Rebekah knows all about caring too much about what others think. She opens up about learning to sit with the discomfort of not being liked by everyone and finding self-acceptance. We also touch on joy and happiness, and how we shouldn't feel guilty about feeling joyful. We share a laugh about how wild it is to be adults with real responsibilities. Rebekah points out that it's okay to cancel plans or not be your usual self without having to explain every detail. People aren't entitled to know everything going on in your life. We also discuss the frustration of feeling like other people are allowed to do certain things, but you aren't.One of my favorite parts of our chat is when Rebekah quotes Anne Lamott: "Expectations are resentments waiting to happen." We talk about the differences between expectations, hopes, and needs, and how managing them can help in our relationships.Towards the end, we talk about therapy and then things get really silly. We had a blast, but just a heads up: proceed with caution because we go off the rails a bit.Join us for an episode filled with laughs, deep insights, and a heartfelt conversation about living authentically and cherishing our friendships. Hi friends! Welcome to May. If you didn't know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. To celebrate, I wanted to bring on every day people, just like you, to talk about their journeys! As a disclaimer, neither one of us are mental health professionals and we are speaking on our own experiences. To start us off, meet Lindsey (best name ever, I know). On this episode Lindsey shares about being diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses (POTS and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome), generalized anxiety disorder, and seasonal affective disorder amongst other things, how being vulnerable has helped her grow, starting a business, finding online communities, finding your people and SO much more. Connect with today's guest on Instagram: @lindsey_m45Connect with me, your host: @lovelaughlinds or shoot me an email lovelaughletitgo@gmail.com

In this episode, I pass along some wisdom I was given this week: "Fail in the beginning" and "go ugly early."  These two mantras were shared in a course I'm taking that I absolutely needed to share with you because if they moved something in me, they likely may move something in you too, right? But even more, I'm sharing some REALLY EXCITING news with you. I've been working on achieving a certification in something that I KNOW will be absolutely life-changing for so many people and I can not wait to really dive in. Certified Enneagram Coach, coming at you soon! How is this linked to failing in the beginning and going ugly early? Over the course of the last few months, I've really come to realize that multiple versions of me exist - and honestly it's bizarre and mind-blowing. In this week's episode, I talk about how this has come to be, why it matters and why it doesn't need to happen. I talk about my apprehension to go back to Maine and how the life I lived there is so very different than the life I live here. Essentially, what I get to is living authentically as you will set you free! Let's connect on Instagram: @lovelaughlinds

I'm back after 2 weeks off...talking about a heavier topic - depression. I've just recently come to admit to myself that I'm experiencing depression. I never thought I'd find myself here, especially when so much is going right, but events in the last year and a half of my life have really made me reflect and realize certain patterns I've found myself caught up in. I'm sharing this in the moment, and at times this may seem like a jumbled mess...but mental health is something I take seriously, and if you're experiencing depression, know you aren't alone. The title of this week's episode hopefully speaks for itself, however, there are so many things that we've done in our day-to-day lives that seem like no big deal because they've become second nature to us. Whether that being working tirelessly to achieve something, being stuck in a rut for a while and continuously working to get out of it, or something else, when things take time, sometimes it doesn't seem like something worth celebrating. A previous version of yourself would be so proud of you now, so celebrate, allow yourself to be proud, and share those things with those around you! Connect with me on Instagram and share something you're proud of so I can celebrate with you! @lovelaughlinds

Somehow it's been a full year since I packed up by vehicle in Maine and started driving  to Florida with my dad and Jules (the cutest mini doodle you've ever seen) to begin a new chapter in life. The past year has been tumultuous, hard, scary, and difficult. It's also been full of adventure, excitement, and new experiences. This episode is a reflection of the good, the bad and the very ugly of the last 365 days. It's a reflection of how we grow through our experiences and how quickly life can change. Everything in life is subject to change. I debated whether or not to talk about the topics, but I have found healing in hearing other people's stories and if I can give someone that experience, the fear of what others may think outweigh any fears I have. Let's connect on Instagram: @lovelaughlinds TRIGGER WARNING: Abusive relationships.
