In episode 79 of The C-Word we chat with Rohan Martin, our new producer! Rohan first picked up the guitar around the age of 9, which sparked a snowball of his life into music. He completed a Cert IV in music whilst still living down south in Capel, but then moved to Perth in 2011 to further his study and look into more opportunities to further his music. He studied sound production for 3 years whilst playing guitar in a few bands and developing connections with other local acts. This sparked him producing a tonne of local bands who have gone on to receive rotation on Triple J and win WAM awards. After playing guitar in bands for about 5 years, he started his own band "Dear Soldier" in 2016, as both guitarist and a vocalist, which continues to be his main musical outlet to this day. In episode 76 of The C-Word we chat with Luke Toki, a former contestant from Australian Survivor (2017) and Australian Survivor: Champions v Contenders (2019). In 2017, he was known for his humorous confessionals and witty personality, as well as his close bond with eventual winner Jericho Malabonga. What started off as a group of friends wanting to clean beaches has now grown to a well-known (and still growing!) group of volunteers along the Perth Coast spreading the awareness and desire for a better future. Doing their best for fortnightly clean ups in random locations around Perth, CCC cleans the beaches, collects data for organisations like Tangaroa Blue and also provide education on waste during the clean ups, helping the local population understand what is ending up in their environment. In episode 73 of The C-Word we chat with Brendan Gillam and Aaron Ellwood from Filament Coffee. These two guys met as graduate tax advisors in an accounting firm in 2009 and after five or so years of building their friendship and our careers, they both knew they wanted to do "something" outside of advisory but just weren't quite sure what. They'd heard about cold brew at a client meeting near the end of 2015 and tested a batch of pre-ground coffee that night and loved everything about it. In early 2016 they began selling their cold brew in bottles at a farmer's market and used the money they made there to buy more coffee and more equipment as they grew. Today, they're both full time in the business and supply cold brew in kegs to cafes, supermarkets and offices around Perth - as well as their brand-new product, Caskii - to wholesales customers all over Perth and online. In episode 58 of The C-Word we chat with Pro Netball Player, Josie Janz-Dawson. A Torres Strait Islander who was born on Thursday Island, QLD. She grew up in Derby, West-Kimberley and when she was 15 years old she accepted a scholarship to attend boarding school at Presbyterian Ladies College in Perth. Josie played netball for the Western Australian underage representative teams, and after she graduated year 12 she received a two year netball scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Josie then moved back to Perth where she played netball for the West Coast Fever team from 2008 to 2016 in the ANZ Championship, and just recently played netball in the United Kingdom Superleague for both the Severn Stars and Team Bath. In episode 57 of The C-Word we chat with Ninja Warrior Tash Sergi. Growing up, Tash was always into health and fitness and played a number of sports at an elite level most of my life. These include dancing, touch football, baton twirling, athletics, netball, baseball, gridiron (LFL) and currently she is a Ninja Warrior. Last year she represented Australia and went to Vietnam and USA for the world titles. She has also competed on the show 3 times! At a young age adversity hit her pretty hard, losing her Dad when she was 16 then just 18 months later, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
