Are we losing our grip on truth... one euphemism at a time?In this episode, we're digging into the quiet — and sometimes not-so-quiet — trend of manipulating language to fit a narrative, avoid offense, or dodge censorship. From swapping “rape” for “grape,” to saying someone was “unalived” instead of murdered, this wordplay might seem harmless… but it has ripple effects. Big ones. We'll explore how changing the meaning of words chips away at clarity, distorts reality, and subtly reshapes how we think, feel, and communicate. Is this just linguistic evolution — or are we slowly un-speaking the truth?Whether you're a parent, a coach, an educator, or just someone who loves honest conversation, this one's for you. Do you remember your experience in school? There are so many issues and gaps in our education. Now, as our children grow up and step into the world, the parent's role in our children's education is even more important. Yet, many of us blindly trust an outdated and often restrictive educational system that may not truly serve our best interests. Costs are escalating, educational quality is questioned, and the true value of traditional schooling is under more scrutiny than ever.In this episode of We're Talking Shift Podcast, we're joined by Sam Sorbo for a conversation about education. As a passionate advocate for home education, Sam shares why sending your children to school for education is not the best choice, and why the parent's role is even more important todayv. She highlights the abuse and issues that are prevalent in the current educational system. Together, we explore the powerful alternative of home education.Tune in to the full episode and reevaluate what education means for your family. It's time to uncover the transformative potential of taking charge of your children's learning experience and educating them to be truly enlightened and empowered!Sounding the Alarm on Education"Your education informs the way you interact with the world. It informs everything you think, believe, and do," declares Sam Sorbo as she examines the current state of the education system. Sam Sorbo is known for her work in Hollywood as an actress, writer, and producer. Now, as an advocate for home education, she is determined to sound the alarm and empower families to embrace alternative approaches to learning.Sam shines a light on the pervasive issue of societal conditioning through the education system. Education, far from being a neutral tool for empowerment, has been utilized to stifle individuality and critical thinking. Drawing from personal experiences, she shares the journey of withdrawing her child from traditional schooling due to systemic flaws. Her message is clear: the education system, as it stands, is failing to fulfill its fundamental purpose of nurturing good humans."What education really has done is it has decimated education," Sam asserts. Unfortunately, there are still many who realize the shortcomings of education yet continue to support the same system. People have been conditioned to be comfortable rather than embrace the possibility of alternative approaches to education. It's time to wake up and realize these problems in education today. The Parent's Role in EducationWhat do you think is a “good school”? Is it one that excels in maths and sciences? "I realized that education really involves the whole child," Sam reflects. There is a need for a broader understanding of what true education is. It's not just about academics; it's about nurturing the overall character and values of the child. The traditional schooling systems are failing our children by stripping parents of their rightful authority and involvement in the educational process. This disconnection not only impacts the child's academic growth but also their personal development and family relationships. She points out a troubling trend where schools often usurp the authority of parents and guardians in their children's lives. It's important to remember that the parent's role in education is critical — we can't just be bystanders. Sam challenges parents to re-evaluate their roles and consider the profound impact their direct involvement can have on their children's futures.Abuse at the Hands of the Educational SystemAbusive is not often a word used to describe schooling. However, when you truly think about it, the abuse truly exists. Sam highlights that the very structure of our culture hates children, limiting their potential and failing in its role of educating them. She lists the little and big ways that the system can be abusive: Discouraging children's infinite and natural curiosity, Dictating children's schedules and actions, Unknown treatment of our children under teachers who are strangers, Training children to conform and not nourish their unique gifts and individuality, Teaching children that their value lies in how much money they can make, and Not nourishing children's spirituality and purpose, especially for young men.If the parent's role in education was a bigger one, we could protect our little ones. Children are born with an infinite capacity for curiosity, but the school environment often seeks to control this by imposing strict rules on when and how they can express their thoughts. Sam also shares a story about her daughter's early school experience that had led her to believe that she was stupid— this seemingly small moment had a significant emotional impact during their formative years, embedding a sense of inadequacy that took years to unlearn. Why Do People Shy Away From Home Education?Despite realizing all these holes and problems in the education system, many parents still hesitate to embrace home education. For some, it's the fear and lack of understanding of what this entails. Sam states,  "They're selfish, they're scared they have no idea what they're talking about and they don't know how to do any research to figure it out.” This, coupled with a deep-seated reliance on traditional schooling, makes the prospect of home education daunting for many. Many people aren't sure if it's the parent's role to teach their children. However, Sam argues that with the right resources and a committed approach, parents can effectively guide their children's education. Beyond that, it's important to remember that education is more than just providing information. It's about cultivating curiosity, bringing out their inner gifts, and developing a good values system and characteristics that can help your child grow into a good human being. The Truth About the Lack of Value in College EducationWhy should you go to college? Sam expresses strong skepticism about the value of a college education, particularly in light of its soaring costs and uncertain returns. She criticizes the current higher education system for being a financial burden that often fails to prepare graduates for the real world. Loree and Sam discuss how many careers require a college degree. However, practical experience, vocational training, and self-directed learning can be more than enough. Sam urges potential students and their families to critically assess the true benefits of college. Don't simply adhere to societal expectations and decide if it truly is worth it.Protecting Your Children with Home EducationAs the episode ends, Sam talks about why home education is a critical educational choice and why the parent's role in their child's upbringing is important. She re-emphasizes the importance of protecting your children from abuse and issues in traditional schooling environments.  “Just open your eyes because the world is full of opportunities for home education,” Sam advises, highlighting the safer, controlled environment that homeschooling can offer. Sam also talks about how home education can turn the focus to character focus and personal development. By taking charge of their children's education, parents have the unique opportunity to instill strong moral values and foster a sense of responsibility and integrity often overlooked in schools.Homeschooling also allows for a wonderful tailored educational experience that can adapt to the child's learning pace, interests, and emotional needs. This gives your children the opportunity to become well-rounded individuals ready to face the world with their unique gifts, innate curiosity, and strong values and purpose. We invite you to reflect on the parent's role in their children's education and futures. Are you fully aware of the impact of your educational choices on yourself or your child? Consider home education not just as an alternative, but as a vital approach to fostering a well-rounded, capable, and emotionally intelligent next generation. Explore more about essential education with Sam's books and resources on her website. What if I told you the money that you worked hard to earn and save is at risk?Right now, we're facing financial struggle after struggle as the cost of living continues to rise. The money that we earn is often hardly enough to keep us afloat. Increasing prices, public corruption, and inflation push us to reevaluate our financial health and security. In this latest episode of We're Talking Shift, Natalie Brunell, podcast host and educator on financial literacy and Bitcoin, joins us for an exciting conversation about finances and Bitcoin. We talk about how so many of us don't truly understand money and why we should start learning. Natalie shares her insight on the risks and weaknesses of our current financial system and how Bitcoin can be the solution to many of these issues. Tune in to the full episode and turn your focus on your financial health. It's time to start learning about money and understanding the potential of Bitcoin as our key to financial sovereignty! What Do You Know About Money? Before becoming a Bitcoin-savvy educator, Natalie Brunell was an award-winning journalist and investigative reporter. For years, she reported on the symptoms of the financial problems people are facing all over the country and, like many others, blamed it on the big corporations and wealthy individuals. But then, Natalie had a big realization. “I did not know what money is,” she stated.“It's devastating, actually, to the economic health of a country for people to not understand how the financial system actually works,” says Natalie as she talks about the lack of financial literacy throughout the nation. Future generations face worse financial conditions despite being more educated and having better technology.Bitcoin = Freedom: How You Can Have Financial SovereigntyWhere do you think the money you've deposited in the bank is? The truth is, it doesn't actually physically exist. If everyone were to go to the bank and ask for their money, the bank wouldn't be able to hand all of them over because it doesn't exist and it isn't actually your money. That is the truth we need to understand. Now the question is, how can we own something that no one can take from us? Now, in this digital age, Bitcoin serves as a digital currency that you can carry with you at all times. Through learning how to self-custody, there is no intermediary between you and your money. In the face of bank runs and the collapsing value of money, you have financial security and control. As Natalie states, “Essentially if you do take self-custody, you are self-sovereign. That money is no one's liability, it is no one's property, except for yours.”Common Misconceptions About BitcoinMisconception 1: You have to own an entire BitcoinThe truth is, you can buy just a fraction of a Bitcoin. “I think it's just important to just slowly accumulate and have that pattern and habit of saving money,” Natalie advises. She spends at least $5 to buy Bitcoin every day. Over the years, Bitcoin appreciates and small amounts average out to her dollar cost average.Misconception 2: The energy component is a problem of BitcoinEnergy is undeniably crucial for Bitcoin. Yet, there's abundant wasted energy globally, which Bitcoin miners can leverage to secure the network. This energy aspect of Bitcoin holds significant potential, fostering technological advancements in energy infrastructure, societal development, and creating opportunities. Moreover, a considerable portion of Bitcoin mining operates sustainably, with minimal emissions.Misconception 3: Bitcoin is used for nefarious activitiesThe truth is, anything can be used for nefarious purposes! Even the dollar is more often used in illicit financial activities than any other currency. The Fundamentals of Bitcoin: How it Works Bitcoin, like cryptocurrency, relies on the technology of cryptography and encryption. However, unlike other cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin offers a decentralized system that gives you security. Natalie shares her amazement at its development saying, “I just find it so amazing that he took all these different technologies and innovations together and created a system that is so secure, so decentralized, and absolutely finite.”Proof of WorkProof of work is a consensus mechanism used by Bitcoin where everyone can come to a consensus on a block of transactions. “All of us in real-time have access to the same ledger. Not one person controls it. It was able to become distributed to the entire world because everyone can run a node and essentially contribute to securing the network,” Natalie explains.A Bitcoin miner expends energy on computations. When there is a number that fits within the parameters of the code, they can mine the block of transactions and add this to the ledger.DecentralizationOther cryptocurrencies after Bitcoin are developed by a small group of people who can control or change the ledger. They're fallible to manipulation and influence and don't have the proof of work mechanisms that allow fair distribution. “Bitcoin is the only one that has reached a sufficient amount of decentralization where that is extraordinarily difficult and cost-prohibitive,” Natalie shares. It would need incredible amounts of energy to even try to hack the Bitcoin blockchain. The currency grew organically from the bottom up and became sufficiently decentralized.Proof of Stake and Difficulty AdjustmentProof of stake mimics the current system of the more you have, the more power you have. This poses the risk of gaining enough power to influence the network. The decentralization and energy component of Bitcoin gives security against this risk. Beyond that, there is also the mechanism of difficulty adjustment. This means that depending on the computing power of the Bitcoin network, the software regulates itself. Scarcity is guaranteed and the fixed supply can't be changed or manipulated. The Four-Year Halving System“Bitcoin has a programmatic monetary policy. Everything is set in stone, it's baked into the code and no one can change it because it's decentralized,” Natalie states. This makes it nearly impossible to change anything. On the other hand, we are living in a system where people in charge can simply decide to change the system. While the inflationary system allows more units to be created, Bitcoin's disinflationary system has a four-year halving system. Every four years, the amount of Bitcoin offered is cut in half. Despite this, 12 to 18 months later, Bitcoin would usually reach a new all-time high.Bringing Women Into the Bitcoin SpaceThe Bitcoin space is largely made up of men. Natalie tells the story of how in her first Bitcoin conference, among 20,000 attendees, it was difficult to find another woman. In an industry that's largely made up of male-dominated fields like computer science, finance, and engineering, there truly is a sad lack of representation for women in the space.Natalie encourages women to learn and be a part of this movement for financial empowerment and independence. “It's easy to learn and you can be a part of it. It's extremely empowering and it's something they don't want to be behind on or come to the train late,” she encourages. As more women play a pivotal role in financial decision-making and take control of their wealth, it's critical to learn about Bitcoin and its role in securing your future.“Anyone can learn [Bitcoin], anyone can understand this technology. It is as powerful of a transformation in terms of the ability to create and transfer value as, I think, the internet was in a different way, in a communication avenue. I think that this is the future of money, the internet of money,” says Natalie at the end of the conversation. It's time to work on your financial health and learn the fundamentals of money and Bitcoin.Gaining financial freedom and sovereignty starts from learning about money and discovering the security and opportunities Bitcoin brings. It may be intimidating to begin your journey for financial health, however, it's never too late to start. If you're feeling a bit stuck or don't know how to take the first step, listen to the full episode and Natalie's easy-to-understand explanations on financial literacy and Bitcoin.Making a shift in your financial health can mean learning more or discovering new solutions like Bitcoin. Episode 164 - Shift your way out of stress.

If we didn't have stress, we wouldn't grow. If we resist this growth, we succumb to symptoms of anxiety and depression. The key to not getting pulled under by stress is by managing the momentum of it. You have to build a set of skills and rewire your brain to flow with stress and use it efficiently to shift your life.Rich Maloney, author, speaker, founder & CEO of Quality Mind Global, a leading international mental wellness training & licensing business, joins me on this week's episode of We're Talking Shift to give tips on how not to stay in the current of the limiting thoughts that trigger self-doubt which snowballs into anxiety, panic attacks and depression. If we stay in this current, we start doing things to FEED the stress through habituated behavior which keeps our bodies in constant fight or flight mode, coursing with cortisol and leaving you facing chronic fatigue and burnout.Rich and I talk about ways to:• Reduce our stress levels• Refocus our mind to manage emotions• Become clear as to what stress is and what it isn't• Learn keys to becoming stress-free.The only worry you should be focusing on long term is whether or not you are being true to yourself, your values and the things that fulfill you.https://www.qualitymindglobal.com/ https://au.linkedin.com/in/richardmaloney1 https://au.linkedin.com/company/quality-mind-globalhttps://www.facebook.com/qualitymindglobalhttps://www.instagram.com/qualitymindglobal/?hl=enLoree Bischoff is a Master Life Coach & Nutritionist, with multiple certifications in life coaching and holistic nutrition. When Holiday Season Becomes A Trap & Why New Year's Resolutions Are Stupid Description:If you're not careful (read “full of care”) about your holiday habits the holiday season can become a big trap leading to a big hole that you have to dig out of when the holiday “party like it's 1999” phase is over. Then come the New Year's resolutions that you feel really good about cuz this is the year that you're really going to do it! Right? Well, maybe - if you're in the 20% group who go the distance. Within six weeks 80% of those who made lofty “gonna make a change” commitments have completely abandoned them. It's just one of the reasons I think making New Year's resolutions is stupid, because it's stupid to keep doing things that don't work. Insanity anyone?Becoming a happier, healthier, goal achieving version of yourself isn't going to just happen by wrapping up the current year the same way you always have and kicking off the new year declaring the same resolutions you did the last few years. You need more than declarations & willpower to make the next best year of your life a reality. It's why I believe “PreSolutions” are far more effective and realistic than resolutions. I fill you in with the deets on this week's podcast. Cheers! To schedule a private coaching session with me visit LoreeBischoff.com & subscribe here for the latest. Chris is a resilient cancer survivor. In 2003, at the young age of 26, Chris was diagnosed with colon cancer. Alec had found new labels to identify with, but was still externalizing his self-worth based on how others saw him. What Alec experienced in his childhood would resurface continually, causing chaos in his life. He was forced to search inward for the healing he needed. That's when this soldier took on another label—‘survivor of generational trauma.'Healing begins when we reframe the past & apply new meaning to it. That will generate different thoughts & emotions. Alec's journey to self-love began when he realized he deserves to heal.We are all divinely, inherently worthy. But we let ourselves & each other forget that. Right now, the realization that humans don't know everything is staring us in the face. We've been trained to rely on external sources like the Western medical system to bring us optimal health & wellness.Dr. Cassie Huckaby was forced to question what she was learning in med school when she developed autoimmune disease after a round of routine shots. Suddenly, her own health was not a reflection of someone who should help others heal.Dr. Cassie's journey back to health required invoking the internal wisdom that our bodies will tell us what heals them. Now a naturopathic physician, she encourages us to ask ourselves what we believe & why we believe it.Warning—this may require us to admit that we're scared, confused, or hurting. But true healing isn't supposed to be pretty! In humanity there's no good or bad. That quest for perfection in health or any other area is a self-induced torture. We must become actually aware of what creates health & what creates disease in the body. The irony of true healing is that it demands imperfection & an understanding of unconditional love.Dr. Cassie calls it quantum medicine—acknowledging that our mind, soul, & neurology all impact the physical body. Our bodies are miraculous. They do the work to keep us alive, healthy, & thriving. Yet we betray their wisdom by silencing any uncomfortable symptoms with pharmaceuticals.70% of Americans are on prescription drugs. It's as if people believe eventually needing medication is the normal course of action for the human body. I see this in many of the clients who come to me for holistic health coaching. They think their meds will be part of the plan—until they realize they don't need them anymore.Body connection coach & author Lauren Geertsen speaks on this from experience. Having chronic health issues while growing up, she was provided with an arsenal of medications. They did nothing to heal what Lauren now understands were her true ailments—stress & anxiety.Taking a pill instead of eating differently or making other lifestyle changes is pretty extreme. Lauren & I are suggesting some alternatives that anyone can do, & are not expensive or time consuming. There is a five-minute change can you make to shift to a healthier lifestyle. Do you want to be fearful & riddled with anxiety? Of course not! But living in that state is a choice and you can choose to free yourself from it by bulletproofing your mindset. That's simply a memorable way of describing what happens when we shift the disempowering thought patterns that keep us stuck. Our thoughts & beliefs are real things. They generate very real emotions. This week I'm addressing the top three questions on my clients' minds right now. Like, “How can I get back to normal & feel like I have my life under control? The world is such a mess & it seems like everything in my life has been turned upside down.” That thought on repeat will definitely make you feel anxious!Fueling the thoughts we dwell on with heightened emotion results in a self-fulfilling prophecy, whether it's good or bad. Like attracts like. That's why our mindset affects our physical health too. The theory that disease begins in the mind is backed by research & some of our oldest spiritual philosophies.I'm also sharing an interesting phenomenon—the nocebo effect. How would you spend that precious time, & how should you spend it if you're lucky enough to still have Mom with you?My sister & I sat down and talked about what we wished we would've said & done, shared what we knew & what we have no idea about, regrets, & what we'd do differently if we had a do-over.This episode is filled with some great ideas on how to make the most of the time you have with your mom now. It's about way more than brunches & bouquets — although there's nothing wrong with those things — but I'm inviting you to really level up this year. I think you'll totally get it once you listen. We're all busy managing our own lives & a lot of things can get by us that we later wish we would've been more present to. Take us up on our suggestions & you'll quickly realize Mom handed down more than biology. You may also meet a woman you've never met before. And if your mom is no longer here? Well, we have some really great ideas for you about that too. This will cause a seismic RelationShift for you & your mom!To schedule a private coaching session with me visit LoreeBischoff.com.
