I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Tracy Kedian, the Associate Dean for Admissions, at the UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA. Dr. Kedian sheds light on the unique aspects of UMass Chan's curriculum, known as VISTA. This innovative curriculum fosters curiosity, inquiry, and equity through group and problem-based learning, along with extensive use of medical simulation. One exciting feature of UMass Chan is its commitment to serving underserved populations. With a focus on health disparities and public and community health, the school offers two distinct tracks with its regional campuses - the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health track, based at Baystate Health Systems in western MA and the LEAD@Lahey track, located in Burlington, MA, that concentrates on leadership skills and health systems science to prepare future medical leaders. Dr. Kedian also provides valuable insights into the admissions process at UMass Chan. While the school predominantly admits students from Massachusetts, it remains an excellent resource for premeds from all backgrounds. Throughout this conversation, you'll discover a wealth of helpful advice for aspiring medical students, regardless of whether UMass Chan is your state school or not. Join us as we delve into the world of UMass Chan Medical School and med school admissions with Dr. Tracy Kedian, a dedicated family physician and an expert in medical school admissions. Huge apologies for this being so So SO delayed. The last month or so has been extremely difficult personally, and the show got backburnered. Much of the info is at least a month out of date, but it's totally worth a listen for the awesome personalities Jane Steinkamp and her daughters, Melissa Steinkamp and Molly Bates. We had a ton of laughs and great conversation with them throughout the show so we didn't want to cut the show down to just the (amazing and wide-ranging) interview. Enjoy! As we conclude our journey through the thirteen keys for self-reconnection and balance, Ceryn invites you to consider those ideas of Human and Soul, and what they really mean. All too often in these spiritually-focussed circles, we see our human selves being diminished and painted as less than the soulful side of us; but the truth is that both are vital. It is only within the synergy of the two that we are able to find a true sense of the sacred in ourselves and our lives. But how do we do that? The answer to that might just come in the form of our 13th key, grounding. Dive in while we explore all this and more.Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions the book Wake Up Mother which she is involved with. As we move onto the twelfth of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with the ideas of outcome and possibility. We live in a world that so often wants us to focus on outcomes; definitive outcomes that can be objectively glasses as "good" or "successful". And there are definitely times when such a clear focus is useful or even necessary. But how often does that mindset rob us of possibility, and of all that can unfold if we allow ourselves to step into the unknown. What is the key to moving into that place of possibility? Ceryn calls it beauty, but not the type of beauty we're used to hearing or reading about. After all, this isn't about checking off boxes on a societally defined list of what makes us acceptable. Instead is it about aligning ourselves with a true sense of beauty; one that involves awe, wonder, and is in the closest place imaginable if only we allow ourselves to open to it.  Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions three ways you can work with her this Winter and in early 2023, which are:2023 Soul Readings, available for a limited time only via this link. The Sekhem Level 1 and 2 initiations Ceryn will be running alongside Rachael Morley this January, including an in-person weekend in the magical lands of Glastonbury. The Re-Kindling Her Stories sessions she will be running online throughout January and February. Meanwhile, Ceryn references the incredible Wild Currents by Jo Gifford, which she read recently. And finally, we mention (again!) the fantastic Vincent van Gogh episode of Dr Who, with a key scene available on YouTube. To keep up with the latest from Ceryn and all things Divine Feminist, follow @divine.feminist on Instagram.Music is Start Again by Alex Beroza, copyright Alex(2014), sourced through YouTube and available to hear in full here. Finally, if you enjoy The Divine Feminist and would like to buy Ceryn a Ko-fi, you can do that here.

As we move on to the eleventh of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with her as she faces one of the scariest topics of all: Death. But how would our relationship with that concept - and equally with the ideas of life, birth and rebirth - be if we had been raised in a world that focussed more on the yin side of life? A world that taught us life was a cyclical rather than a linear process. The key to doing that? To breaking out of the linear A to B idea of life and moving instead into a place of true cyclical living? Wildness. And the courage to come back to ourselves and to nature. But for so many of us, the very term is something we've never been taught, and one we need to truly deep dive with in order to understand and integrate on our terms. As we continue to work through the thirteen keys to self-connection and sacred balance, we come to key six, responsibility. And with it, we remember the words of Spiderman's Uncle Ben: "with true power comes true responsibility." Because that's precisely where responsibility becomes so important; at a time that increasingly asks and invites us to step into our power, the key to doing that appropriately is in owning that power responsibly. But what does that mean? And how can we be sure that we will use our own power responsibly in a world that gives us so many examples of the opposite?Join Ceryn for a deep dive into exactly this subject, and get in touch on the details below to share your experiences with this key, we would love to hear them. Episode notes Are you ready to dive more deeply into your own journey of self-reconnection and sacred balance? Faith has become such a burdensome and often empty world in our societies today, but I truly believe it's one of the most important qualities we can cultivate. Not necessarily in a God, Goddess or anything else outside of ourselves - although what you choose to believe in is entirely up to you, but faith in yourself and in the world around us.After all, faith is what gives us a reason to keep pushing against the institutions and ways of being that are so determined to keep us small. Faith is the light that gleams to us at the end of the tunnel and reminds us that something else is possible, even on the days when all seems lost. And faith is the thing that reminds us that who we are is enough, giving us the courage and the power to reconnect more fully with ourselves in all of the ways that are needed. As Ceryn journeys through the thirteen keys that unlock the doors back to self-reconnection and sacred balance, she invites you to dive deeply with her into the idea of faith, and to consider what that really means for you.Episode notes Are you ready to dive more deeply into your own journey of self-reconnection and sacred balance? Imagine being detained by armed agents whenever you returned from traveling outside the country. That's what life became like for Academy Award-winning filmmaker Laura Poitras, who was placed on a terrorist watch-list after she made a documentary critical of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. Poitras was detained close to 100 times between 2006 and 2012, and border agents routinely copied her notebooks and threatened to take her electronics. It was only after Poitras teamed up with EFF to sue the government that she was able to see evidence of the government's six-year campaign of spying on her. This week on our podcast, Poitras joins EFF's Cindy Cohn and Danny O'Brien to talk about her continuing work to uncover spying on journalists, and what we can do to fight back against mass surveillance. In this episode you'll learn about: What life was like for Poitras when she was placed on a terror watch list and put under FBI surveillanceWhy security is a “team sport,” and what we can all do to protect ourselves as well as more vulnerable people  Poitras' new work about the NSO Group, an Israeli spyware company that has been accused of facilitating human rights abuses worldwideWhat legal strategies can be used to push back on mass surveillanceThe role of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden and human rights activists in uncovering spying abuses, and how they can be better protectedThe laws that we need to protect professional journalists and citizen journalists in an age where anyone can record the news If you have any feedback on this episode, please email podcast@eff.org. Having talked at length about the deaths that we experience as we move through life, and spent time sitting in the limbo that represents the place between, it's time that we turned our attention to what lies beyond that limbo: To the place of re-birth.  We talk a lot about the pain of birth, and just as much about the joy that comes afterwards. But rarely do we stop to consider the whole spectrum of experience that birthing or being birthed involves.  And of course that doesn't just involve the birthing of human life but much more besides.   In this episode, we discuss what it is to birth and to re-birth, and what is truly needed for us to experience that re-birth of our own, personally and collectively. Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release. Limbo. It's something so few of us humans are comfortable with, yet something we experience regularly in ways both big and small. But as we move through our own period of limbo - outwardly in the world, energetically as the veils thin, and here on the Divine Feminist too - it's something we are increasingly asked to get familiar with.Join Ceryn to delve into the subject of limbo, and how we can each get more comfortable with those times in our own lives.Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release. Death is both the greatest taboo and one of the most common fears within our human lives and societies. Yet it is also one of the greatest certainties any of us ever face. But to ignore or fear death is to do ourselves a disservice because it is to run not only from the end of our physical lives, but also from the transitions that mark so many of the chapters within those lives. So what if we were to not only greet but embrace those deaths for exactly what they are?To grieve the endings that come our way and to mark the places of transition as they find us. Join Ceryn on this week's episode of the Divine Feminist to discuss exactly that. Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release. We've talked a lot over recent weeks about the outside factors we must overcome as we take that journey from restriction to liberation. But what about the inside factors that keep us feeling small and stuck? In this week's episode of the Divine Feminist, Ceryn invites into the idea of pattern breaking. Combining her experience as a therapist together with insights gained over 15 years of working in the Soul realms, Ceryn shares not only the various internal patterns that can hold us back and keep us feeling stuck, but also the steps each of us can take in order to step off that wheel once and for all and make changes for ourselves. Things we can all do, and changes we can all make - no matter how much those inner voices of ours suggest otherwise.  Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release.
