Feminism, but connected. The Divine Feminist is a deep dive into feminism for today; the kind of movement that recognises the everyday struggles as symptoms rather than causes of our toxically unbalanced society. So how do we fix that? By reconnecting wit
As we conclude our journey through the thirteen keys for self-reconnection and balance, Ceryn invites you to consider those ideas of Human and Soul, and what they really mean. All too often in these spiritually-focussed circles, we see our human selves being diminished and painted as less than the soulful side of us; but the truth is that both are vital. It is only within the synergy of the two that we are able to find a true sense of the sacred in ourselves and our lives. But how do we do that? The answer to that might just come in the form of our 13th key, grounding. Dive in while we explore all this and more.Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions the book Wake Up Mother which she is involved with. This month's episode of the Divine Feminist is a special one, as Ceryn talks with Laura Bates about her work and experiences to date. Founder of The Everyday Sexism Project and author of eight books to date, Laura is involved with a number of programmes and campaigns that demand real change from those at the very top of our societies, and works in schools across the UK and beyond to educate young people about sexism, consent and sexual violence. Her latest book, No Accident, is the second of her fictional works and, though aimed at young adults, provides a powerful and important perspective on these subjects and their impacts upon young people today. As we move onto the twelfth of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with the ideas of outcome and possibility. We live in a world that so often wants us to focus on outcomes; definitive outcomes that can be objectively glasses as "good" or "successful". And there are definitely times when such a clear focus is useful or even necessary. But how often does that mindset rob us of possibility, and of all that can unfold if we allow ourselves to step into the unknown. What is the key to moving into that place of possibility? Ceryn calls it beauty, but not the type of beauty we're used to hearing or reading about. After all, this isn't about checking off boxes on a societally defined list of what makes us acceptable. Instead is it about aligning ourselves with a true sense of beauty; one that involves awe, wonder, and is in the closest place imaginable if only we allow ourselves to open to it. Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions three ways you can work with her this Winter and in early 2023, which are:2023 Soul Readings, available for a limited time only via this link. As we move on to the eleventh of our thirteen keys for self connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to journey with her as she faces one of the scariest topics of all: Death. But how would our relationship with that concept - and equally with the ideas of life, birth and rebirth - be if we had been raised in a world that focussed more on the yin side of life? A world that taught us life was a cyclical rather than a linear process. The key to doing that? To breaking out of the linear A to B idea of life and moving instead into a place of true cyclical living? Wildness. And the courage to come back to ourselves and to nature. Join Ceryn to talk about exactly that, and the path that lies open to each of us as when we choose to turn that key. Episode NotesWithin this episode, Ceryn mentions three exciting events she is involved with at this time, which are:The free Arise and Awaken event on December 2nd and 3rd, which this year focuses on Working with the Dark Goddess in preparation for 2023's Divine Feminine Liberation. As we continue our journey through the thirteen keys to sacred balance and self re-connection, we come back to that very idea of connection and, in particular, what that means when it comes to ourselves. We are all multi-faceted beings; different voices within us bringing their thoughts, hopes and fears to the table, while the fact that we exhibit different aspects of ourselves in different situations is perfectly natural and even wise rather than a sign that we're somehow inauthentic. Join Ceryn for a discussion of all of this and more as she invites you to consider the key of connection, and how we can all work with this within ourselves and the world. As we continue our journey through the thirteen keys for sacred balance and self-reconnection, Ceryn invites you to consider the idea of boundaries - what they are and how we set them.Boundaries are something we hear a lot about in today's world, and even more so as we walk this path of Divine Feminism and realise that, for all of patriarchy's work to steer us away from boundaries, neither we nor the planet can sustain the constant drive to take without limit. But for so many of us, the very term is something we've never been taught, and one we need to truly deep dive with in order to understand and integrate on our terms. And even when we have the "what", there is work to be done to understand how we can set and maintain boundaries in our own lives. And that's where today's episode comes in. It sounds like a contradiction doesn't it? Yet as we journey with allowing, the eighth key to self-reconnection and sacred balance, that's exactly where we find ourselves. We live in a world of action, shoulds and to-do lists; one that will tell us that doing is the only way to be.But of course we know that's not the case, that the true sense of being is much more flowing; is something that leaves room for rest, for magic, and for someone else to take the reins. The key to getting there? Allowing. Allowing ourselves to both take control over what is right for us, and relinquish control over what the next steps look like.Join Ceryn as she dives into exactly what this means, for us and our world.Episode notes Are you ready to dive more deeply into your own journey of self-reconnection and sacred balance? When it comes to these thirteen keys to self-connection and alignment, pleasure is perhaps the one that has had the most myths built around it by patriarchy. Yet to reclaim pleasure on our own terms is to reclaim our power, and so much more besides. So what does that involve? And how do we work out what the word even means for us? Join Ceryn to dive into the idea of pleasure; the myths and lies we've been sold about it, how its reclamation can benefit us, and where we begin on our own journey back to that concept. As we continue to work through the thirteen keys to self-connection and sacred balance, we come to key six, responsibility. And with it, we remember the words of Spiderman's Uncle Ben: "with true power comes true responsibility." Because that's precisely where responsibility becomes so important; at a time that increasingly asks and invites us to step into our power, the key to doing that appropriately is in owning that power responsibly. But what does that mean? And how can we be sure that we will use our own power responsibly in a world that gives us so many examples of the opposite?Join Ceryn for a deep dive into exactly this subject, and get in touch on the details below to share your experiences with this key, we would love to hear them. As we journey together through the thirteen keys to self re-connection and sacred balance, Ceryn invites you to think about your own experiences with faith over the past few weeks, and shares insight into her journey with this. After all, working with these keys is not as simple as a discussion, or some time spent pondering while listening to a podcast, but has a tendency to be much more in-depth. Working with these keys can and will unlock something for us if only we are prepared to tune into that experience for ourselves. Faith has become such a burdensome and often empty world in our societies today, but I truly believe it's one of the most important qualities we can cultivate. Not necessarily in a God, Goddess or anything else outside of ourselves - although what you choose to believe in is entirely up to you, but faith in yourself and in the world around us.After all, faith is what gives us a reason to keep pushing against the institutions and ways of being that are so determined to keep us small. Faith is the light that gleams to us at the end of the tunnel and reminds us that something else is possible, even on the days when all seems lost. And faith is the thing that reminds us that who we are is enough, giving us the courage and the power to reconnect more fully with ourselves in all of the ways that are needed. As Ceryn journeys through the thirteen keys that unlock the doors back to self-reconnection and sacred balance, she invites you to dive deeply with her into the idea of faith, and to consider what that really means for you.Episode notes Are you ready to dive more deeply into your own journey of self-reconnection and sacred balance? The cult of individualism is not working for us - as individuals or societies. We live in a world of such division, where we are continually encouraged to focus on the differences between us and how those separate us from one another. But though that focus has led us and our societies deep into a place of division, that is not to say that our differences should be ignored, forgotten, or glossed over. Following our journey with the subject of knowledge - both inner and outer - Ceryn discusses the synergy that can be found when we transcend those binaries and instead consider the idea of truth. But truth itself may not be as simple as we have for so long been told, so join Ceryn on a discussion of that subject together with questions about what truth means to us personally and how we can connect to that more deeply. From there, we talk about the idea of discernment, and how we can cultivate this to come back to a place of greater alignment with ourselves and our own truths - individually and collectively. We live in a world which sees us constantly bombarded by information. And let's never forget the brilliance of that; the opportunities it provides for us to learn, particularly for and from those who may once have been excluded from mainstream sources of education or training. But there are downsides too: the ways in which that barrage of information can drown out that inner voice, the information inadequacy it can give us, and the sheer difficulty we can find in navigating that whole spectrum of available information in order that we can find the right way forwards for ourselves, and more. The challenges of our age of information have never been more apparent. So how do we navigate that spectrum of knowledge? And more, how and where do we begin to root ourselves in order to find a path back to our own centre. Following the thread of the Divine Feminist book, this week's episode sees Ceryn dive deep into that discussion of inner and outer knowledge, and how those sources of information can make themselves known to us. Following our recent discussion on the much-talked-about inner between love and fear, The Divine Feminist asks you to consider what happens when we transcend that binary and honour the full spectrum of both our love and our fear - as well as everything that lies between. The result? We reach a place of expansion. Empowered expansion which is fully aligned with our hearts and Souls. Of course the path to do that isn't always easy, and so often asks us to embrace the depths of our own courage. What does that truly mean? That's a bigger question, and one Ceryn talks about at length in this week's episode. So listen now to learn more and dive deeper into your own journey of courageous expansion. Love and Fear. We're often told that this is the binary through which we choose to live our lives.Follow the path of fear and you'll find yourself in a place of joy, comfort and beauty. But allow the voice of fear to guide you and you will only ever star stuck, restricted and frustrated. But what if the flow between these two voices within us - and all those that lie between - is much more in-depth, and if both fear and love have much to teach us about how we can best take care of ourselves and the glorious world around us?Join Ceryn as she talks through the duality of love and fear, and invites us to reconsider each of those energies within ourselves and our lives. As we continue our deep dive into the topics covered in The Divine Feminist book, Ceryn invites you to consider the ideas of sacred balance and synergy, and how these affect your own life and the wider world. Together we talk about the power of breaking out of the dualistic boxes that have, for so long, been imposed upon us and about the power that can be found in embracing wholeness - not only for a sum of its parts but for the synergy that comes in bringing those parts together.Along the way we consider how to go about that and what such an approach could mean for each of us - and for the whole world too. And together we remember that we are not simply a list of ingredients but are, and always have been, the whole damned cake. When it comes to the dualities we've been told to recognise in our world, none are more vibrant - or at times more visible - than that of the Sun and the Moon.Which is why when practicing witch Ceryn was asked to put labels to the two energies being described in The Divine Feminist, they seemed like the perfect words to use. But what if that separation too was nothing more than an oversimplification? Yet another binary given to us with the instruction than we can only ever choose one side - the side that society deems best for us - in an attempt to keep us from embracing the glorious wholeness of who we are?Join Ceryn as she contemplates these two energies, the ways in which they have been sold to us and the parts of our identities it's time we reclaim.Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now on sale! Having talked at length about the deaths that we experience as we move through life, and spent time sitting in the limbo that represents the place between, it's time that we turned our attention to what lies beyond that limbo: To the place of re-birth. We talk a lot about the pain of birth, and just as much about the joy that comes afterwards. But rarely do we stop to consider the whole spectrum of experience that birthing or being birthed involves. And of course that doesn't just involve the birthing of human life but much more besides. In this episode, we discuss what it is to birth and to re-birth, and what is truly needed for us to experience that re-birth of our own, personally and collectively. Limbo. It's something so few of us humans are comfortable with, yet something we experience regularly in ways both big and small. But as we move through our own period of limbo - outwardly in the world, energetically as the veils thin, and here on the Divine Feminist too - it's something we are increasingly asked to get familiar with.Join Ceryn to delve into the subject of limbo, and how we can each get more comfortable with those times in our own lives.Episode notes Ceryn's book The Divine Feminist is now available for pre-order ahead of its November release. Death is both the greatest taboo and one of the most common fears within our human lives and societies. Yet it is also one of the greatest certainties any of us ever face. But to ignore or fear death is to do ourselves a disservice because it is to run not only from the end of our physical lives, but also from the transitions that mark so many of the chapters within those lives. So what if we were to not only greet but embrace those deaths for exactly what they are?To grieve the endings that come our way and to mark the places of transition as they find us. We've talked a lot over recent weeks about the outside factors we must overcome as we take that journey from restriction to liberation. But what about the inside factors that keep us feeling small and stuck? In this week's episode of the Divine Feminist, Ceryn invites into the idea of pattern breaking. Combining her experience as a therapist together with insights gained over 15 years of working in the Soul realms, Ceryn shares not only the various internal patterns that can hold us back and keep us feeling stuck, but also the steps each of us can take in order to step off that wheel once and for all and make changes for ourselves. Things we can all do, and changes we can all make - no matter how much those inner voices of ours suggest otherwise. It's so easy to think that this journey from restriction to expansion is a simple, linear path. But in reality that's rarely the case. We have all experienced our fair share of frustrations, disappointments and unexpected outcomes along the way, and will undoubtedly experience more on the road ahead of us. But so often, finding ourselves in those places will either see us curled up in a ball too afraid to move forwards, or faced with people who tell us to keep going no matter how we may be feeling. Neither is necessarily the right answer. And each can be as damaging to us and our journey to self-alignment as the other. In this week's episode of the Divine Feminist we look at exactly this; acknowledging and dealing with the challenges presented to us on this journey in the way that is truly right for us. Having broken free of our restrictions and moved into a place of our own expansion, this week's episode of the Divine Feminist asks us all to consider what comes next? Or, more specifically, what could come next? After all, when it comes to expanding our lives further and further, one thing that is often likely to rear its head for us is the simple question, "what if?" And although all too often that question will be one of fear; the two words that try to remind us of how scary the world could be if and when we dare to take a step outside of the ordinary, there is another way. So this week, Ceryn invites you to see that question in a different way. To embrace the energy of possibility and allow your what-ifs to become the keys that open up new doors and opportunities, rather than the barriers that keep you small. Join her for a discussion into the idea of possibility, and how we can all invite more of that into each and every day of our lives. What would it mean to take up proudly and unapologetically space? That's something we're so often deterred from; from the childhood conditioning that tells us to stay quiet; to the societal rules that remind us to look, think and behave a certain way and convince us that we should simply be grateful for the space we are offered. It can lead us to believe that asking for more is ungracious, rude and to the detriment of other people. I'm here to remind you that those stories were never true; and never in our best interest. And what's more, I'm here to remind you that it's time you stepped out of the shadows, broke free of the restrictions those have led to and claimed your space in this world and this life wholly, completely and unapologetically as you are. Episode notes As mentioned in the introduction to this episode, Ceryn is thrilled to be offering a number of free Soul Sessions this month - a 45-minute chance for you to join her for a 1:1 chat about your own journey back to alignment. Fresh from our deep dive into the subject of restriction, The Divine Feminist moves to focus on where we find ourselves outside of those walls, and invites you to consider what the idea of expansion means to you. After years, generations and lifetimes of being told to stay small, that concept can feel challenging at best and completely alien at worst, but is something that is so important to consider as we all continue this journey towards a new balanced world.Join Ceryn to consider what natural, flowing expansion means to you, and how you can begin to align yourself more fully with that energy of expansion from and in a place of your own wholeness. Continuing the theme of restriction from our last episode, Ceryn invites you to consider what it takes to break through (/ fly over/ escape from) those walls that have for so long been placed around us... Not to consider what we may find when we do. The decision to step outside of the known and carve a path of our own can be a terrifying one, even more so when we consider the persecution that so many have experienced, and continue to experience, for doing just that. But the wildness that exists outside of those walls isn't just being talked about now, but is being encouraged by some in society. So is it time we broke through those walls once and for all? Allowing every one of them to crumble so that we can all live a life of possibility and freedom, now and in future?Episode notes Within this episode, Ceryn references Starseed Sacred Circle, the first book from her friend and teacher Yolandi Boshoff (and sister to the forthcoming Divine Feminist book!). What if the world was always meant to be more than we've been told? More than that, what if each and every one of us was always able to be more than we've been told? Our societies are often all-too-keen to give us the blueprint of how we could be, of what is possible for us if only we buy and achieve the "right" things, act and look the "right" way and follow the well-beaten path to happiness and success. But what if that path was only ever meant to take us part of the way? From the Garden of Eden to the cage of consumerism, Ceryn talks about the ways in which our ways is keeping us small - even when it promises us expansion. From the demonisation of the first woman and our own patron Goddess Lilith to the imposter syndrome that might just be trying to connect us with our own fullness, this episode invites us to think bigger, rise up and look for more as we consider life outside of the walls of what we've been told is paradise. As we venture into Gemini season, it is time to talk about all things air. And with Ceryn having finally completed the manuscript of the Divine Feminist book, it seems the perfect time to talk about the subject of using your voices. No, this isn't a "how to write a book" episode, nor is it a "you should start a podcast and here is how", but instead is an invitation for you to consider your voice and how and where it is shared in the world. After all, between old wounding, lifelong conditioning and the parameters we are given for what makes someone "worthy" of sharing their voices, there is often so much holding us back from speaking what is right, true and important for us. Join Ceryn on this week's episode as she invites you on a deep dive into this subject and reminds you of just how much power there is waiting to be heard in your voice. As we move into the Earth energies of Taurus season, Ceryn invites you to journey with her around the idea of beauty. That word in itself may trigger something in you around a concept that has for so long been weaponised against us and used to play us off against one another. And certainly to even talk about the idea of beauty we have to dive into that concept of physical attractiveness which has become so conflated with it. As we continue our Aries season journey with the qualities and concepts associated with fire, Ceryn invites you to consider the power of your own creativity. So often we're told that creativity is a label which references only a limited number of activities, all associated with beauty and art, all of which are considered a "waste of time" unless we are "good" at or able to make money with them. But to see the force of creativity through such limited terms is to rob them - and us - of the power that creativity has to offer to us, our lives and the world. From beauty to wildness, Ceryn surrenders the structure of this one to her creativity and invites you to consider the power of your own creative force along the way.Episode notes As Ceryn prepares to launch the Divine Feminist Community, this week's episode comes with a sneak peek of what you can expect from that source. As we navigate our way through Aries season, when better to connect with the elemental energy of fire and with one of the emotions most closely associated with fire: Rage.Rage is and can be a powerful force, and maybe that's why our world is so keen to keep it under wraps, encouraging us to feel scared or ashamed of our own anger.Yet journeying through that fear and shame to understand and befriend our true rage can bring us so much; insight into our passions and unhealed sadness; an understanding of the societal messaging in us that still needs to be unpicked; and perhaps most importantly of all the fire that ignites our drive to change the world. Come with me on a journey to befriend your true rage. TRIGGER WARNING: Within this episode is a brief mention of abortion, which is spoken about for approximately two minutes at around the 36 minute mark. The world we live in likes to set us very clear expectations. Wherever we are and whatever roles we do or don't take on, you can guarantee we'll be given - subtly or otherwise - a checklist of what it means to "succeed". Yet the path to fulfillment is never and should never be the same for everyone. So how to we break free of those expectations in order to truly understand what that path looks like for us? And then how do we go about making the changes that will put us onto those paths for ourselves. In today's episode Ceryn goes on to speak about choice, and invites us all to dispel the myths that a choice must be "perfect", not only for now but for always; and that we must be happy and comfortable with the choices we make. Bringing it all together we consider the journey back to ourselves and our truth; from the Fool or Novice setting out on their journey back to that place of unification with all of the wisdom that is available within us.Episode notes In this episode Ceryn references the Major Arcana of the Tarot, specifically the Fool and World cards. Putting boundaries on our time and energy is one of the most important things we can do to care for and respect ourselves. But in a world that so regularly tells us we should be caregivers whose worth is judged by their productivity and by how exhausted they are at the end of a week, the whole subject can be tough. From stepping back from the constant busy-ness for long enough to discern what our needs are to bucking the trends of society and expectations of those around us enough to put those containers for ourselves in place, the work of understanding and implementing those boundaries can at times feel as draining as the possibility of continuing. In this week's episode, Ceryn shares insights gained from her experience of burning out, the lessons she's learned along the way and the ways in which boundary setting can be a vital part of not only self care and creating a life of greater balance and fulfilment; but also of reminding the rest of the world to do the same. Consider this a reminder that your time and your energy are important; that you are worthy of boundaries, and an invitation to consider how those would look for you. Once something heard only in the most spiritual of conversations, those from all walks of life are increasingly realising the importance of grounding themselves and their energies. In a world so full of noise and mistruth, it's never been easier for us to be distracted, caught up in anxiety or thrown off course, making it more important than ever to root ourselves deep into the Earth, the present moment and our own truth. But what does grounding really mean, what are the benefits of a regular grounding process for ourselves and this planet we call home? What does the word power conjure up for you?For so many of us it's something that the chosen few have access to; the prize offered to those who won the lottery of privilege or checked off the qualities on a list that immediately gives them permission to control others around them. But who says that's the case? The world likes to tell us our fears are bad. It likes to tell us they're unnecessary and evil and more than likely need to be vanquished like some sort of beasts that are actively working to keep us from our full potential. But what if that's not the case? Lately I've come to believe that our fears have been given a pretty bad rap; that in fact maybe they're the gatekeepers of our potential - the voices that can signpost us towards our true fulfillment. And what's more, I've come to believe that the key to removing ourselves and moving forwards on the road to our dreams isn't in hiding from or fighting our fears, but in befriending them and moving forwards together - bringing those gatekeepers along for the ride. Listen to this week's episode for more on this, and the four questions you can ask to befriend your fears. Episode notes Ceryn has written about the subject of fear for Thrive Global. At the start of each episode I ask "how are you? How are you really?"This week with my hand on my own heart the answer came through plain and simple: "Exhausted." I'd like to tell you I listened first time around, but as you'll hear, that wasn't quite the case. Let's talk about why that is; about why so many of us have a problem with stopping, pausing and giving ourselves the permission to take a break. And meanwhile listen as I share my story - and the stories of so many of those I've worked with - about moving from that place of constant action into the golden feeling of resting, of pausing, of simply being.Episode notes Within this mini episode Ceryn speaks about the fantastic Nap Ministry. It may be the only place we can truly call home for the whole of our stay here on Earth, but how many of us feel completely connected to our bodies? The societies we live in are so keen to disconnect us from those bodies, to encourage hatred of them and division because of them that you could be forgiven for forgetting how it felt to feel truly at home in your physical self. Yet this process of reconnection that divine feminism involves doesn't stop with those intangible parts of ourselves, it's about reconnecting to every single part of ourselves. Including the physical.Join Ceryn for a deep dive into this subject; for the hows, whys and consequences of that disconnection from ourselves and for some ideas on how we can take the journey back home.Episode notes Within this episode Ceryn mentioned the Body is Not An Apology by Sonya Renee TaylorShe also mentioned Code Red by Lisa ListerAnd finally Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson The quote at the end of today's episode is by Nayyirah WaheedMusic is Start again, copyright Alex (2014), sourced through YouTube and available to hear in full hereIf you'd like to know more about working with Ceryn, and about Soul-Led Therapy, her approach to talking therapies, click here. Do you trust yourself? Every part of yourself? We live in a society that's all too keen to detatch us from the wisdom within us, and in doing so to leave us thoroughly distrusting from ourselves. But that's a dangerous place to be.Not only because we find it ever more challenging to hear and listen to what's truly right for us, but also because it leaves us constantly searching outside of ourselves rather than turning to the only person who ca ever give us true validation. Inspired by Joan of Arc's quote "I'm not afraid, I was born to do this", Ceryn turns a lens on the idea of self trust and asks how we connect with the parts of us we've come to distrust?Episode notes Within this episode Ceryn mentions Your Body Is Not An Apology by Sonya Renee TaylorShe also mentioned Meggan Watterson's book, Mary Magdalene Revealed.Meanwhile you can listen to Meggan's Divine Feminist interview here. Finally, Ceryn mentions the work of Yolandi BoshoffMusic is Start again, copyright Alex (2014), sourced through YouTube and available to hear in full hereIf you'd like to know more about working with Ceryn, and about Soul-Led Therapy, her approach to talking therapies, click hereAnd remember, to keep up with the latest from Ceryn and the podcast follow @divine.feminist on Instagram
We humans are ever-moving, ever-changing beings; something we all embrace more of as we adopt the more cyclical, feminine approach to life. But how do we mark the phases that comprise those changes?Looking specifically at the feminine archetypes that each woman is said to embody throughout her life, this episode talks about the challenges that occur if we fail to pause and take stock of the phases we've moved through, and at how we can honour our own phases as well as those of the natural world around us.Episode notes Within this episode Ceryn mentioned Code Red by Lisa ListerShe also mentioned the work of Sheryl PaulCeryn read two poems in today's episode. We've talked a lot about this thing called Divine Feminism. But about now you may well be asking: "So what?"In this episode we go back to the fundamentals of Divine Feminism, and why each of us - and our society and world - so desperately need that reconnection and rebalancing. Covering off everything from the oppression we know and gate, to leadership, community and community, Ceryn shares experiences from her own story - in this and other lifetimes - along the way.
