We introduce Alex Lynch, (https://www.unleashthegospel.org/episodes/episode-81-alex-lynch/) who lost her husband and shares how she processed this grief with her church community. 1:36 Alex shares that her husband, Brian, was diagnosed with cancer about two years prior, and that, while he was in treatment, they suffered a miscarriage, and later, they believed they were unable to conceive, which eventually led them to discern becoming foster parents. As his cancer progressed, they were unable to continue fostering, but eventually became pregnant again, and welcomed their youngest two months before Brian passed. She shares how, after he passed, her parish community was a tremendous support that helped her get through that time of grief. She comments on how she makes a point to reach out to and support other moms who, so often, are suffering through trials silently and how grateful she is for those who still reach out to her. 6:20 We introduce guest, Sheila Breen (https://www.unleashthegospel.org/episodes/episode-77-sheila-breen/), who lost her husband, Kevin, to a rare degenerative disease. Fr. Patrick asks about her process of grief and she shares how it has been a season of tremendous grace. She shares about praying a prayer of surrender when her husband was first diagnosed, and that, while it's been a time of great challenge, there has been a true outpouring of grace. 11:51 Sheila shares that carrying a cross seems to simplify things and that all the unnecessary concerns seem to fall away. Although this season was incredibly difficult for her, she and Kevin trusted completely in God and depended on his grace in the sacraments. She shares that there is a peace she has felt since his passing that she knows comes only from the Lord. Patrick asks her what her favorite memory is of serving the city of Detroit and Emily relays her connection to the community through her work on the Open Door Policy podcast. (5:00) Fr. Alex Lynch was on his way to graduate with an environmental science degree when he discovered he had a knack for analytics as he was assisting setting up surveillance cameras and providing investigative support to make his campus safer. Alex ultimately was hired by the campus police to provide further analytical work; following the pandemic, he was assigned to a COVID task force to examine how New York City was handling the situation. Alex was ultimately hired by the NYPD where he worked on a multitude of investigations, including violent crimes, gun crimes, missing persons, and more. Adam and Richard find themselves back at Dynasty Brewing Company, but not to talk about Dynasty. Instead, they are talking to Alex Lynch, from Mieza Blendery. In 2011, Alex began focusing on sour and saison beers in his unfinished basement, which is where he fell in love with the mixed culture fermentation beers.What is a Beer Blendery? Mieza Blendery contracts out the wort production process of making beer and focuses solely on fermentation. A beer blendery creates multiple beer components with the intention of blending those components together to create the final product. This can come mixing together diverse barrel flavors, fruits, nuts, spices, and more. Since blenderies can focus all their energy on the fermentation process, they often create beers that are more complex and tend to lean on the sour side of craft beer. Expressions of TerroirHistorically focused on wine but making its way into the craft beer industry, “terroir” refers to specific characteristics and flavor profiles that result from the specific location where ingredients are grown and fermentation takes place. Adam and Richard ask Meiza Blendery' Lynch to explain how he utilizes “expressions of terroir” in his blendings and the opportunities that it provides him.What Makes the Perfect Beer Blend?There is a magic that takes place in the process of blending beers together.
