Virginia's off year election is a bellwether for the federal election in 2022. Today, I have a fascinating conversation with J.D. Maddox, Delegate candidate for the 45th Virginia District. He is a veteran of the US Army and the CIA. He has a commonsense approach to problem solving and tackles issues such as Defunding the Police, dysfunctional schools, infrastructure and other topics. As J.D. says, "Virginia politics is national politics in miniature."You can contact J.D. at http://www.maddoxforvirgina.comYou can follow J.D. at maddox4virginia on Twitter and maddoxforvirginia on Facebook.
Politicians and other power-seekers are very intent to make schoolchildren wear masks. It's a move that isn't necessarily supported by "the science." Jon Miltimore points out how the CDC itself admits that schools with mask mandates saw statistically comparable rates of transmission as schools without mask mandates. Overconfidence in science is causing far too many people to abandon reason and to simply trust what people in authority are telling them. Kai Weiss explains how this is a quirk of human nature that was pointed out long ago by F.A. Hayek as something that can lead us straight into the clutches of collectivism. Standing up for your rights isn't always the easy thing to do. That's especially true when you're speaking with a police officer. Allan Stevo has a truly useful recommendation of what to do before backing down to an officer. The authoritarian lockdown measures being implemented in Australia and New Zealand are perfect examples of a real world dystopia. Thousand dollar fines if you are caught going outside alone for fresh air? Unreal. Jim Bovard reminds us that absolute power is no Covid safety net. This is probably a good time to remind ourselves that Australia and New Zealand systematically disarmed as many of their citizens as possible more than 2 decades ago. It's a safe bet that similar calls for disarming the American public are coming. As J.D. Tuccille notes, it's doubtful that American gun owners will comply with similar laws. Getting people to obey bad laws can be tricky. I know we're supposed to believe that the vaccine is the answer to "beating the virus." But this narrative isn't exactly squaring with reality right now. Tyler Durden from Zero Hedge documents how even mainstream media is finally asking big questions about the covid vaccines. www.thebryanhydeshow.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/loving-liberty/support
As J.R.'s maiden voyage through the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues, we pause to talk about the films that make up Phase Two, including the introductions of Ant-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy
In recent years Redemption Hill Church has moved from a statement of faith to a confession of faith. And you would be forgiven if you ask, what’s a confession of faith? And how is it any different than a statement of faith? It seems few Christians, especially within evangelicalism, are familiar with historic creeds and confessions. As J.V. Fesko points out in his book The Need for Creeds Today, there are several reasons for “deconfessionalism.” Go check out his book to learn more. What I want to touch on is the value of holding to a confession of faith and the utility of a confession of faith. Value First, a confession of faith tends to be more robust than a run-of-the-mill statement of faith. Meaning, if you read the Heidelberg Catechism or the Westminster Confession of Faith, you will be struck by its length and depth. But when you pull up the statement of faith from “Good Vibes Church” two miles down the road, you’ll read they believe in the Bible and Jesus. Not wrong, but it doesn’t say much. I have come to appreciate our confession of faith because the church knows what I believe as a pastor and preacher. Second, the church can hold the pastor accountable with a confession of faith. I believe it is good for the church to listen well to the sermon and test what is said against Scripture and a confession of faith. I will not get away with preaching how each person born into the world totally depraved, and then the following Sunday say that everyone born into the world is essentially good. Ultimately, the church is protected from a pastor going theologically rouge when there is a confession of faith. Third, a confession of faith is meant to be a document that lasts for centuries. The Westminster Confession of Faith has been around since 1646. The Heidelberg Catechism was codified in 1563. The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith goes back to 1689. When you read these confessions of faith, you see the ancient creeds pop from the paper—creeds such as the Nicene Creed of AD 325 (and updated in AD 381 in Constantinople). And we can’t forget the Chalcedonian Creed (AD 451) and the Athanasian Creed (although there are questions about authorship and dating of the Athanasian Creed). So not only is a confession of faith meant to stand the test of time but it is connected to historic orthodoxy. The Confession of Faith at Redemption Hill Church, which is a part of Trinity Fellowship Churches, modernized, edited, and added to The Second London Baptist Confession of Faith for our purposes. Our confession of faith is also connected to historic orthodoxy. Utility What is the point of a church committing to a confession of faith if she does not use it? In other words, one of the reasons a church commits to a confession of faith is its utility – its usefulness. Here are several brief thoughts about how a local church can use a confession of faith to build up the body of Christ for the glory of God. Catechesis A Confession of Faith of faith is a fantastic tool to educate the church. For example, in 2020, I taught a class to the church using a systematic theology book. The course went fine. The systematic theology book was a good tool. However, and in the future, I’ll use our confession of faith to teach theology to the church. A Confession of Faith is a tool to catechize children. An excellent way to instruct children is to create questions from the content of the

Might not be a bad time to stock up on what you need. Mandatory military service strikes a patriotic note with some folks but conscription has always been problematic. Jeffrey A. It's probably just nostalgia but there are many of us who miss the days when people dressed up to go about the business of life. In this episode, we invited Dan's close friend Jônatas Chimen to speak with us about the art world. If you are an artist or in the marketing/creative industry, you have to watch this episode! Jônatas is a Brazilian-American Symbolist artist, author, academic, and public speaker. Jônatas started by explaining how his inspiration came from his own family's history of migration, adaptation, and cultural hybridization. He said it really well: I understand "urgency" in life, that one day my flesh will go back to the dust, but my art will outlive me. To answer Nathaniel's question about novelty art and how to value art, Jônatas said that scarcity and rarity are very powerful. He told us the famous Miami "taped a banana to the wall and sold for $300,000" story. It's quite an "American phenomenon" that out of nowhere, one can suddenly call themselves an "artist" and sell a piece at such an unexplainable price. It rewards "hype", but not "depth." Jônatas stressed the importance of creating your own narrative, like Picasso, Andy Warhol etc. As Jônatas said, being a good artist is not enough, you need to know how to present and promote your work to succeed.

In order to be more environmentally friendly, we at the BBQ decided to combine our October and November Apple event wrap up shows. It is the podcasting equivalent of removing the charger plug from the box. Okay, seriously, we changed things up a bit and invited Greg Stilson on to talk about the new Macs and iPhones. Greg has launched a few products over the years, and we thought he could speak at longer length about what it takes to do that than J.J. and Joe could. Happy New Year and Happy New Decade! What will the 2020s bring? As J.P. Morgan famously said: “Stocks will fluctuate.” In 2019 they fluctuated mostly higher and the U.S. was still the place to be. Tech giants such as FANG’s Facebook, up 56%, Google’s parent Alphabet, up 29% and Amazon.com up 23% propelled the NASDAQ 35% higher. The S&P 500 rose nearly 27% and the Dow Jones Industrials advanced over 22%, all trading in record territory. It was pretty much a year for stocks all over the world, which is, of course, bringing the doomsayers out in droves. An excellent article on the front page of The Wall Street Journal’s Year-end Review & Outlook section is a good example. It’s titled: “Japan’s Lost 30 Years Give Pause To Those Looking at The U.S.” What are the stories propelling economies and markets in 2020 and the decade going to be? Steph used to work at SpaceX and NASA... It's Steph's 1 year anniversary since she quit her job working as a rocket scientist. She reached FI by building an income through real estate in Greece, and now spends her time organising workshops and helping women with money as a financial coach! You'll love her story. We also chat about... Steph's strategy to reach FI How she acquired her property in Greece Getting over the fear of going to Europe What she currently spends her time on Her side hustles organising money workshops Enjoy this chat with Steph, and please subscribe to us in iTunes if you enjoyed it! Show notes and links from today's episode Blog: The Money Muse Steph on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Gold City Ventures How they paid off $200,000 in debt in 5 years | Mr. and Mrs. rich & REGULAR Article: For These Women, a FIRE That Burns Too Male and Too White Requirements to become an accredited investor Mad Fientist Etsy Shop: The Swag Elephant Book: Broke Millennial Key takeaways from our chat with Steph 1 - The risk in buying a property overseas Steph was born in Greece but moved at the age of 3. She didn't meet her dad until she was 20, and that's when she was introduced to the concept of building villas and renting them out to tourists during the summer. So she started saving all the money from her job to allocate it to building a villa, and hiring her Dad as a property manager. Steph explains that there was a huge risk in this, and she decided to take a year off to see the villa get built and get to know her Dad. In the end it all worked out - she was willing to take the risk to maximise the return. 2 - How Steph decides what to do with her time It wasn't easy for Steph to quit, she first took on a part time contract before completely quitting. She then immediately took some barre classes, got a dog, volunteered at a pet shelter and finally had time to do all the things she wanted to do. Now she works at a co working space and runs a few side hustles including setting up events, financial coaching and talking about investing. She's realised that now that she's FI, she has the time to pursue activities that have a bigger impact. 3 - Not everything has to be tracked Steph does not identify as frugal or non-frugal; she's somewhere in the middle. She lives in Seattle and spends around $4k a month. Her priorities are education and health, and she is willing to spend money on things she finds important.
