The boys drink and review Imperialis from Avery Brewing Company, then discuss bail reform. The point of bail is to make sure that an accused person will appear at his court appearances. If you pay the bail and show up, you get the money back. Unfortunately, bail has been set too high for many citizens, and they have to go through the ridiculous bail bonds process, which is a complete racket. This has led some jurisdictions to eliminate cash bail in many cases. It's part of a larger movement that seeks to dial back police power, redefine crimes, and refuse to prosecute other crimes. Homeless camps are allowed to grow in our major cities. There's public defecation and urination. It's a horrible mess. Bail does need to be reformed, but the liberal solution has been a disaster.

Avery Brewing Company was founded by a father and son team. Adam Avery, the son, is the CEO of his dream brewery, and Larry Avery, the father, stops by regularly for lunch and a walk enjoying his retirement. The Kaiser weaves together rich, toasted Vienna and Munich malts with the floral spiciness of Hellartau and Bravo hops to create a bold and brazen dry Imperial Oktoberfest. It has a deep dark malt bill, aromas of toast, nuts, and bread, that's all pulled together with a boisterous booziness. This week on FDB - talking ducks, a meat sauce stained domestic dispute, a drastic ditch of a man's extremity, and more! Now please kick back, and enjoy another sit down with Friends Drink Beer. Composer Happy Hour - Presented by whateverandeveramen.

Hi friends - thanks so much for listening to Episode 6 of the Composer Happy Hour. Hopefully you have a drink in hand, and you are ready to relax and enjoy a great conversation. Also - a quick plug here: if you aren't already following us on social media, please take a second to check us out (IG: @whateverandeveramen / Twitter: @whateverchoir). Your follows mean a lot to us. I'd also like to ask that if you have Apple Music, consider finding the podcast there and giving us a 5-star rating. This helps us out a lot! Our guest for this episode is Jake Runestad. If you are a choral music fan or participant, I imagine you already know some of Jake's music. He has been prominently featured on the program at just about every recent ACDA conference, and his music has been collected on albums by Conspirare and Kantorei. When I first met Jake in person, I knew we would get along well because we have several shared interests: we both enjoy a good old-fashioned, consider ourselves to be "foodies," and have a shared fondness for the music of Ben Folds. We discuss all of that and more in the episode. I hope that as you listen to each episode you find you are getting to know these composers more as people - understanding their influences, their personality, etc. - and that this might give you a greater appreciation and understanding of their music. Grab a drink and enjoy! As always, if you like what you hear - buy us a beer! Your contributions will help to fund future projects by whateverandeveramen. Episode Sponsor: Funky Turtle Brewing starts with spirit brothers Drake Pregnal and Tom Garrison. Drake and Tom met in the backwoods of Kentucky in 2014. We quickly added another turtle to the team, Troy Secrest a lambic lover and marketing genius. At the Funky Turtle, we brew exclusively barrel-aged beers and meads. Today’s episode is one of those where just a couple weeks difference in when we actually sat down with each other would have dramatically transformed the focus of the conversation. For anyone who’s been paying attention to Avery, you certainly know it’s been a couple years of transformation for the brewery, as they took on a minority investment of Mahou San Miguel, completely reconfigured their portfolio to better align with market trends, and launched a visual re-brand. Of course, all these changes involved some personel movement, as their COO left in May and a half dozen folks were laid off. Before that, the prior COO had left to join Ska brewing. So it’s safe to say that since the Mahou San Miguel deal, there’s been a lot going on at Avery. And my guests today, Andy Parker, their CHIEF BARREL HERDER, and Colin Quinn, their special projects brewers are in a unique position to talk about how that effected the most important part of Avery’s operation - the brewing. Which beers should Avery be making, for which markets? in what formats? how simple can a portfolio in 2018 be? how critical is newness? and what are they gonna do with all that capacity after a major expansion? Well, what we didn’t know at the time of this interview was that Founders Brewing based in Grand Rapids Michigan, would need some help brewing All Day IPA, a brand that continues to set the pace for growth in craft. Like Avery, Founders is partially owned by Mahou San Miguel, so what could have been a major albatross for Avery, all that extra capacity, debt, and a slow transformation back to growth became a chance to support the larger system of brands under the family banner, and both benefit from the opportunity. It’s bizarre for Avery fans to consider, but Mahou San Miguel and brewing All Day IPA might just be the difference between having or not having an Avery Brewing Company at all. So what will they do with that bonus time afforded by those relationships? Time will tell. But in this interview, you’ll hear about the shift in the brewing side, how the team is regrouping and what they’re excited about in Avery’s brewing future.

This week, Bret and Melissa Hamilton join the show from Stone Corral Brewery in Richmond Vermont. The interview was recorded in May 2016 at the Farrell Distributing Craft Beer Show located at Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm in Quechee, Vermont. Brett and Melissa tell us about the origins of their brewery, the live events and music that can be found there and about some of their more unique flavored beers. What’s in the Fridge this week? Jeff and Jason open up a tropical Belgian style witbier Liliko’i Kepolo out of Avery Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado and a Magic Hat Art Hop Ale brewed for the South End Art Hop in the South End of Burlington, Vermont. Both bring fruit beer back into the market in a new way.

If you thought Christmas was a "Christian" holiday... you'd be wrong.  If you think the world will end on Friday the 21st... you're even wronger (yes, we know that's not a word).  With only one week until Christmas Eve and only five days until the "end of the world" we sit down with a big bomber of Salvation from Avery Brewing Company and probe both topics with logic and liquor.

00:00:00 - Ryan chats with some of the geographers from the Floating Sheep blog about their stastically rigorous maps charting beer vs. church in the tweets of Americans. What state will win? What state will lose? How will this affect the electoral college? Tune in to find out! 00:36:21 - Big data projects like the one above require alcohol. Literally. It was one of two search parameters. The Paleopals are silmialr in this regard. Patrick has Old Dominion's English Style Ale. Again. Nothing new there. Charlie has homemade soda water. Everyone agrees this is good and that soda water machine companies should sponsor the show. Ryan has a religiously themed beer to try and bridge the gap with a Salvation golden-style ale from Avery Brewing Company. 00:41:04 -Trailer Trash Talk lacks the ability to back in time to assasinate segments we no longer like, but if we did, we may run the risk of being forced to kill ourselves, much like the sexy protagonists of the new time-travel crime thriller Looper. 00:53:04 - There was a time when the US government had the audacity to ask, "What happens to beer if we nuke it?" Having an excess of nukes, they decided to try it. The results? Delicious. Wander the wastelands of taste as the guys discuss Operation Teapot Project 32.2a. 01:05:15 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like nuked beer; they probably aren't worth any money, but some people still seem willing to pay. Patrick has a new recurring donation from Danielle N. who wants us to buy some beer, even though we try to save the cash for more 'legitimate' purposes, but who are we to argue with the fans?  Patrick also sneaks in another donation from Wade W., who's more of a serial donator than a recurring donator. Whatever works, for you, man. Thanks, Danielle and Wade! Ryan has an alliterative and imperative iTunes review from Trailrun, who seems to think that the apocaplys is immenent. The almost-forgotten Charlie has an Emerald City originated e-mail from Mike S. who wants to offer us the exclusive use of the Museum of Flight. There's no way this doesn't work out well for everyone involved. Get ready for SSOcon 2013!   Discuss this episode and other podcasts from the Brachiolope Media Network on our forum!   Music for this week's show provided by: My United States of Whatever - Liam Lynch Nancy from Now On - Father John Misty The Boys of Summer - Don Heneley Atomic Cocktail - Slim Gaillard
