This episode centres coincidentally on games featuring Chinese food: indie visual novel and family saga Road To Guangdong, and brawler-puzzler-anime-story Battle Chef Brigade. Also covered: surreal visual novel Far From Noise, and finally, easy going tactile puzzle game One Line Coloring. Bhavya and Caleb explore the many responsibilities of the soldiers in the Battle Chef Brigade, from cooking to fighting to research. A world faced with a unique challenge was forced to build a unique force to fight it, but at what cost? This is an EXPERT level episode, which means some parts of the discussion may not make sense unless you’ve played the game. Expect lots of spoilers.

Episode 69 (nice) of Gaming Couch! I got to say. I'm VERY slow on some of the best games out there. I recently was blessed by finding the game Battle Chef Brigade made by Tinker Studios and published by Adult Swim Games. It does so many things well. You like puzzle match 3 games? Got it. You like Beat 'em ups? Got it. You like lite RPG elements with choosing a loadout? Got it. You like cooking? Got it. You like crazy over the top and slightly anime? Got it. Seriously, this game is addicting. The characters are funny and charming. The way the matches are balanced between finding ingredinents, fighting monsters, cooking, and the clock is done perfectly. Seriously this is a game you need to buy. Here is the Steam page for it. Give it a go. It's 20 bucks and well worth it. ---> https://store.steampowered.com/app/452570/Battle_Chef_Brigade_Deluxe/ Take care, Smartboy P.S. I have nothing more to say. This game is amazing.

In November 2017, Trinket Studios released a unique puzzle-fighting game onto PC and Nintendo Switch. The title, Battle Chef Brigade, had garnered a colossal amount of support following a successful Kickstarter campaign raised over $100,000 in 2014. The game focuses on Mina Han, an up and coming chef who leaves her rural home to make it as a member of the Battle Chef Brigade, an elite group of chefs who battle monsters and use the spoils to make the most delectable dishes in all the land. Battle Chef Brigade currently sits with a spotless rating of 10/10 on Steam and has earned itself a persistent cult following since release. This week we are joined by game critic and noted Battle Chef Brigade evangelist Caitlin Galiz-Rowe to talk about the wild world of culinary contests. Before we do that though we have some thoughts on the biggest battle royale around at the moment, Apex Legends! After the break we do indeed break down the Nintendo Direct with thoughts on Mario Maker 2, Link's Awakening, Astral Chain, Fire Emblem Three Houses and more! Kirk and Maddy start off by talking about the biggest news of the last week: the sudden closure of Telltale Games, a move that left more than 200 game developers out of work with no severance. (Well REALLY, they start out by talking about comically huge mouse pads, if we're being totally accurate.) After talking about the Telltale debacle, they discuss Sony finally opening up the PS4 to cross-play with other consoles, how a Shadow of the Tomb Raider fan found an unintended post-credits cutscene by playing the game without the day-one patch, and how Nintendo's tight-lipped approach to explaining their games lets fans create things as wonderful as Bowsette, a.k.a. Peacher. They close out with some talk of how Destiny 2 has become life-devouringly good, how Maddy has been charmed by last year's Battle Chef Brigade, and some off-topic TV, podcast, and music recommendations. Show notes: https://bit.ly/2MSWzrT One Month Catch-Up: Jermaine thinks about returning to school, goes back to work, and has a baby girl-- "She's awesome, gorgeous, and has strong lungs!" Jenny babysits six kids, ages 1-8-- "It was a long day! Will never do again! (Haha, just kidding.)" Trailer Talk: Bumblebee Jenny: "Why is Bumblebee a VW Bug? Also, the girl is wearing so much makeup I totally didn't believe that she was a teenager; totally looks like she's in her twenties. I'm totally age-shaming her. Two stars. Specifically because this trailer doesn't explain anything!" Robert: "Yeah, isn't Bumblebee a Camaro? I was confused. Also, I totally agree with Jenny-- Hailee Steinfeld is totally unbelievable as a teen. This feels like the Transformers franchise being reset for the beeper-bopper crowd. 1.5 stars. Where is Michael 'The Best Movie Maker Ever' Bay?" Jermaine: "I'm so mad at Michael Bay for ruining an entire generation for lying to them about Transformers. I'm a huge sucker for coming-of-age tales but I'm not into this. Why? I'm happy to see the Michael Bay stink removed. No more racist robots! I believe in Travis Knight! 3.5 stars. Slightly excited for this!" Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Robert: "This one I like! It reboots Spiderman with an Afro-Latino protagonist but not by totally ignoring Peter Parker. I love that Parker is weaved into the story as an older mentor figure to Miles Morales. Five stars." Jenny: "The animation is spectacular! I love the dad-jokes and how this movie is funny without being cheesy and lame. 4.5 stars." Jermaine: "I like when Jenny reviews things it's basically like Robert's reviews but just with a female stuck in there. Jenny completes the 'People-Rainbow' on GCA! I also love the snappy dialogue in this movie. Five stars." Review - Deadpool 2 Jermaine: "Josh Brolin is having a stellar year! Fantastic as Cable. I really enjoyed the first Deadpool but it was ruined for me because the trailer revealed so much. I love that within the first five minutes the entire X-Force team got killed. I love all the set pieces. My kinda comedy! Domino was fantastic too and Fire Fist befriending Juggernaut was great. The CGI was terrible though. I fully recommend." Jenny: "I love the interplay between the serious Colossus and Deadpool who takes nothing seriously. I liked the jail scene and everything, really. I recommend; good times!" Robert: "I enjoyed what I saw but it was pretty much what I expected. I love X-Force dying the way they did though-- that was absolutely hilarious. Brad Pitt's half-a-second cameo being electrocuted made my day too. Recommend." Recommendations: Jenny recommends The Hitman's Bodyguard-- "I'm the last person on earth to watch this but Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds are super worth it!" Robert loves PK-- "It's an alien movie about an alien that lands in India; it's a great satire about Hinduism's polytheistic religions, released in 2014. I totally recommend people watch more foreign films to gain a broader perspectives." Jermaine plays a new game, Battle Chef Brigade-- "You gotta hunt the animals, kill them, bring them back to the kitchen, and cook them. I love this game!" Credits: "From our family's to yours, keep you pants dry, your dreams wet, and remember: hugs not drugs."
