Markus May, Institut für deutsche Philologie, LMU München; Prof. Dr. phil. A powerful resource for citizens, educators, leaders, and parents, Hijacked speaks to those ready to defend liberty, restore responsibility, and reweave the social fabric of our nation—before it's too late.In an era of cultural confusion and political polarization, Hijacked offers a bold roadmap for reclaiming the essential principles of a flourishing society. Drawing from historical evidence and timeless wisdom, authors Peter H. Calfee and J. Kevin Dolan argue that the survival of the American republic depends on our collective ability to return to foundational values— Critical Thinking, Education, Religion/Faith/Values, History, Politics, and Economics. From the very first chapter, Hijacked drives home the premise that the American experiment is not immune to failure — unless its people actively think, question, and speak with clarity and conviction. In one of the book's foundational sections, Calfee and Dolan explore the erosion of public discourse and the consequences of abandoning Critical Thinking. They recount how great civilizations—from Ancient Rome to modern states—fell not due to external enemies but internal decay. Indoctrination, moral relativism, and the suppression of inquiry replaced reasoned dialogue and moral clarity.About the AuthorsJ. Kevin Dolan is a former airline pilot and Wharton MBA who co-founded a successful Registered Investment Advisory firm and played a key role in launching the Allied Pilots Federal Credit Union.Peter H. Calfee is a financial expert and retired CPA, CFP®, and CLU with leadership experience in regulatory, nonprofit, and academic settings. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Together, they bring decades of real-world experience and principled leadership to this urgent call for national renewal.https://hijackedourrepublic.com/

German military history is typically viewed as an inexorable march to the rise of Prussia and the two world wars, the road paved by militarism and the result a specifically German way of war. Peter Wilson challenges this narrative. Looking beyond Prussia to German-speaking Europe across the last five centuries, Wilson finds little unique or preordained in German militarism or warfighting. Iron and Blood: A Military History of the German-Speaking Peoples Since 1500 (Harvard UP, 2023) takes as its starting point the consolidation of the Holy Roman Empire, which created new mechanisms for raising troops but also for resolving disputes diplomatically. Both the empire and the Swiss Confederation were largely defensive in orientation, while German participation in foreign wars was most often in partnership with allies. The primary aggressor in Central Europe was not Prussia but the Austrian Habsburg monarchy, yet Austria's strength owed much to its ability to secure allies. Prussia, meanwhile, invested in militarization but maintained a part-time army well into the nineteenth century. Alongside Switzerland, which relied on traditional militia, both states exemplify the longstanding civilian element within German military power. Only after Prussia's unexpected victory over France in 1871 did Germans and outsiders come to believe in a German gift for warfare--a special capacity for high-speed, high-intensity combat that could overcome numerical disadvantage. It took two world wars to expose the fallacy of German military genius. Yet even today, Wilson argues, Germany's strategic position is misunderstood. The country now seen as a bastion of peace spends heavily on defense in comparison to its peers and is deeply invested in less kinetic contemporary forms of coercive power. Emerging Markets, once the darling of the asset allocators world, have found themselves increasingly discarded by those same allocators. Such became the re-allocation away from them and the magnetism of the US & its technology companies, that as recently as the end of 2024, Emerging Markets were at a 50 year low, relative to the S&P 500. With some improved relative performance, it may be asked if this is a flicker, or are we at the foothills of a bigger reallocation? East Capital's CEO, Peter Håkansson, discusses the opportunities, the lessons drawn from researching them for 3 decades, and what the drop in EM Government bond yields might be signalling. He explains why no central heating might indicate corporate failure ahead, which fundamentals matter, and why they prefer to take their bets in company position sizing, rather than in the country weights. He also discusses Frontier markets, the impact of foreign exchange and as a music lover he is, “reasons to be cheerful!” (Ian Dury & the Blockheads)The Money Maze Podcast is kindly sponsored by Schroders, IFM Investors, World Gold Council and LSEG.Sign up to our Newsletter | Follow us on LinkedIn | Watch on YouTube

Lugano hat ein ehrgeiziges Ziel: Die Tessiner Stadt möchte Krypto-Hauptstadt Europas werden. Ist das Segen oder Fluch für Lugano? Finanzwirtschaftsexperte Peter.
Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well
What do you do when your trust is broken, or when people start questioning your trustworthiness? Chances are, you're left feeling unsure, even overwhelmed. Most of us don't really understand how trust works, so trying to fix it can feel impossible. In this episode, Peter Kim from USC's Marshall School of Business breaks it down for us. Drawing from his book How Trust Works, he shares over twenty years of research on what makes people trustworthy, why trust gets broken, and how relationships can actually be repaired.Join us for a conversation about the science of trust and discover what it really takes to build, break, and restore the connections that matter most.Listen and Learn: Why trust is essential for cooperation, even though it makes us vulnerable, and how people who choose to trust ultimately function and flourish better than those who don'tHow trust is defined as a willingness to be vulnerable in situations involving real risk, and why acting as if you trust someone is not the same as truly trusting themHow trust violations fall into competence or integrity, and how we weigh positive and negative information differently for each, shaping how we perceive and respond to others' actionsThe effectiveness of apologies depends on whether a violation is seen as a matter of competence or integrity, and how our motivation to preserve relationships influences the way we interpret and respond to wrongdoingMoving beyond black-and-white judgments of right and wrong to explore the gray areas in human behavior and foster a more nuanced understanding and dialogueHow to begin rebuilding trust by acknowledging the other person's concerns, assuming shared core values, and creating a safe space for honest, collaborative conversation, even when opinions deeply differWhy apologies for integrity violations are so hard to accept, and ways to reframe actions or create narratives that allow people to recognize errors and pursue redemptionResources: How Trust Works: The Science of How Relationships Are Built, Broken, and Repaired https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9781250838155 Peter's Website: https://peterhkim.com Connect with Peter on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/peterkim/ My Octopus Teacher movieAbout Peter Kim Peter is a Professor at USC's Marshall School of Business, where he teaches some of the most popular MBA courses around—probably because everyone wants to know why their apologies keep backfiring. Be Great: The Five Foundations of an Extraordinary Life in Business - and Beyond by Peter H. Thomas https://www.amazon.com/Be-Great-Foundations-Extraordinary-Business/dp/0615302572 https://www.instagram.com/peterhthomas_/ Peter Thomas has lived a tremendously successful and fulfilling life, despite personal tragedy and occasionally grave financial circumstances. He founded and built Century 21 Real Estate into the largest real estate network in Canada, and profitably spearheaded dozens of large-scale real estate developments all over North America. He has founded several more wildly successful businesses, the not-for-profit organizations LifePilot and the Todd Thomas Institute for Values-Based Leadership, flown a helicopter, dived to 850 feet in a submarine, and raced motorcycles. So why him? Peter Thomas doesn't believe he is a particularly gifted person or any smarter than the average man or woman in the street, but his achievements in business and philanthropy are world class. So what is the secret to building an exceptional life? The answer is that there are many paths to success, but what they all have in common is being true to the people on them, and you get to have to pick your own. Thomas shares his life, experience, and wisdom with you to illustrate his Five Foundations for achieving the life you want: Values: Clarify your personal values and live them. Focus: Understand the power of focus and how to apply it. Visualization: If you can picture your goal, you can work towards it. Inspiration: Celebrate the genius within you. Reflection: Tap into positive forces you control. For Peter Thomas, learning and applying these principles has brought him fame and fortune, aligned with a resolute conviction to help the less fortunate. There is no limit to what we are capable of achieving. Be Great is a manual for unlocking human potential.
Just after 8:00 pm on the evening of February 19, 1994, thirty-one-year-old Gloria Ramirez was admitted to Riverside General Hospital with what Emergency Room staff believed were symptoms of a heart attack. When Ramirez failed to respond to the medications and emergency treatments, medical staff began preparations for defibrillation; however, when they removed the woman's shirt, they were surprised to find her skin covered in an oily sheen and her body seemed to be emitting an odd fruity odor. Stranger still, when a nurse took a blood sample from the woman's arm, the blood smelled of ammonia and appeared to have slightly yellow particles floating in it. The nurse turned to leave the room, intending to take the sample for immediate analysis, but she didn't even make it to the door before she lost consciousness and was caught by a coworker before her limp body hit the floor. Less than an hour after she was admitted to the Riverside General Emergency Room, Gloria Ramirez was pronounced dead, but her story was far from over.Within hours of Ramirez's visit to the ER, medical personnel who attended her that evening became sick with symptoms typically associated with insecticide poisoning (tremors, apnea, burning skin), and several required hospitalization. In the days and weeks that followed, the doctors and nurses who'd come into direct contact with Ramirez continued to experience bizarre symptoms that seemed to defy logical explanation and left everyone wondering, how had a seemingly ordinary woman's body been transformed into Trojan horse of toxicity most associated with chemical warfare?Thank you to the Amazing Dave White (of BRING ME THE AXE PODCAST) for research and writing assistance!ReferencesAyers, B. Albert Bierstadt’s story runs counter to the romanticized idea of a passionate starving artist. He was strategic in his career, selecting imagery that he knew would appeal to U.S. audiences, and monetizing his art outside of selling paintings. The Higgs Boson, also called the "God Particle," is like the secret glue holding the universe together! Scientists first theorized it decades ago, but it wasn't actually discovered until 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider. Without it, atoms wouldn't have mass, meaning everything—stars, planets, even you—might not exist the way we do now.

When organizations break employee trust, Peter H. Kim argues those employees are less willing to go above and beyond to contribute to the organization. Peter, author of “How Trust Works,” goes on to detail why trust in institutions has been declining significantly, despite its importance to our work and lives. Peter explains why we mismanage and misunderstand trust and dives into counterintuitive findings from his research, such as why most people believe they are more effective assessors of trust than they actually are. He also shares why efforts to mitigate risk can have a negative impact on trust between employers and employees. Dr. Peter H. Kim is a professor of management and organization at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. His research on trust has been published in numerous scholarly journals, has received 10 national/international awards and has been featured by The New York Times, The Washington Post and National Public Radio. He's the author of “How Trust Works: The Science of How Relationships Are Built, Broken, and Repaired.” His website is www.peterhkim.com. Jessica Knight is a vice president of research in the Gartner HR practice. She leads research teams to identify best practices and new opportunities to address HR executives' most urgent challenges. Her areas of focus include employee experience, organizational culture, change management and the future of work.
