Welcome back to another episode and this time, we have a special guest for this ‘half episode', Foxx Nolte. Foxx has been in the Disney community for years and has been a trailblazer in all things Disney history. For this episode, we are excited to have the ‘Queen of Lake Buena Vista' joining us to talk all about her latest book, Hidden History of Walt Disney World. This book is filled with a treasure trove of tales and stories curated by Foxx, which were hand-picked and organized in an entertaining way. Todd and the fellas touch a bit on an earlier episode where we got into the old stories told to us about Bay Lake & the various watercraft duties. Check out Episode 8 if you haven't already! One of the main discussion points that Foxx brings up, is the 44,000 word limit in this book. As she states, she had to ‘cut the crap', which makes this a very fun read that comes in somewhat short snippets. You get the information, you digest it, and you keep going without going too far into the weeds. If you remember, Foxx also wrote Boundless Realms a few years back. Her sense of history and record keeping is right in line with how most of us think; this history has to be documented and recorded before it is forgotten or lost. We love that and hope she continues to record these stories and memories before it is too late. We get into one story in particular, all about a packing house. During the construction of Walt Disney World, they utilized a closed-down packing house to build ride pieces and set items. Foxx dug deep into this little bit of history, getting down to the type of windows in each building, shed designs, and when these places were shut down. One big issue she has run into is the history is murky due to so many people moving in and out of the area. This book also hits on the old ticket system, which allowed Disney to see which rides drew in the crowds and allowed you to adjust the maintenance schedules based on use. Another fun chapter is all about McDonald's in the parks, which if you don't remember when this was a thing, you need to get into this bit of Disney history as it was a magical time. Overall, this was such a fun read and a fun interview. We hope you take some time to pick up a copy and enjoy it the next time you are traveling to WDW, heading on a summer road trip, or even sitting by your favorite resort pool. Huge thanks to Foxx Nolte for sharing copies with all of us and for spending time with us on this episode.

Another pre-pandemic offering that many thought was gone forever has come back to Walt Disney World. But there is one glaring thing still missing, leaving us wondering if and when this beloved experience will ever return. Bay Lake Resort Boats are Back (but there's a catch) Some people thought they'd never come back, but we had faith and believed in what Cast Members were telling us. As of this week, you can once again travel across Bay Lake between Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground on the classic original blue flag boat route. The blue flat route began operating once again on October 1, but there's a bit of a catch. Here's what you need to know: the blue flag boats will only be available to ride beginning at 3:00 p.m. daily. --The Villas at Disneyland Hotel are Now OpenDisney Vacation Club has officially opened its 16th property, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel at the Disneyland Resort. This is the fourth tower at the popular hotel. Each tower at the Disneyland Hotel has a unique name and the new Disney Vacation Club tower is named Discovery (the others are Fantasy, Adventure and Frontier). There are 344 themed rooms in the 12-floor tower, celebrating the creativity and magic of Walt Disney Animation Studios stories. In addition to the new Palette Pool, the Palm Breeze Bar will open later this year poolside. In a bit of a twist compared to pools at some other DVC resorts (like Bay Lake Tower), all Disneyland Hotel guests will be able to enjoy this new area, as well as the other two pool areas and water slides at Disneyland Hotel.--Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. Our first Disney vacation is in the books! This episode of the Soul Forge is a day by day recap of our exciting adventures. At the end of each day, Shawn and Leah sat down and recorded their memories of the excitement. Florida in September is still quite warm. Walt Disney World requires a lot of walking. Here is the story... The Walt Disney World Resort, also called Walt Disney World or Disney World, or simply abbreviated WDW, is an entertainment resort complex in Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, Florida, United States, near the cities of Orlando and Kissimmee. Opened on October 1, 1971, the resort is operated by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, a division of The Walt Disney Company. The property covers nearly 25,000 acres (39 sq mi; 101 km2), of which half has been used. The resort comprises four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom), two water parks: (Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon), 31 themed resort hotels, nine non-Disney hotels, several golf courses, a camping resort, and other entertainment venues, including the outdoor shopping center Disney Springs. Shawn and Leah tell you about the nightmare that was getting from their Washington layover into Orlando. The weather did not cooperate so the flight was quite late. One common thing on the entire adventure was the lack of comfort in the seating, both on the jets and the buses. The humidity was off the charts. One of the best parts of our first Disney vacation was visiting with friend Jarman and his wife Jolie. Shawn and Leah went to Icon Park where they rode the Wheel of Orlando. They also visited a wax museum and the Sea Life Aquarium. The Florida Mall still has an operating Sears store! The Disney Character Wearhouse was always busy. The food at most places was decent. The actual Disney part of the trip was exhausting due to so much walking and the heat. Fun parts include the ferry ride, the Skyliner, Toy Story Mania and Star Tours. The 50s Prime Time Cafe had wonderful food and ambience. We enjoyed Soarin' as well as Mickey's Runaway Railway rides. We got to see dolphins, lizards, manatees and a hammerhead shark. We were disappointed in Woody's Roundup BBQ and the lack of a direct route to Hollywood Springs from our hotel. Getting the park hopper option is a definite must. The Epcot food and wine festival was the favourite part of our first Disney vacation. This week's podcast promos: Earth Station One, Earth Station Who, Epsilon Three, and the ESO Patreon promo.

Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - The Village Bay Lake Fire, on Quadra Island, is no longer considered out of controi. The size has shrank from 4 to 1,5 hectares in extent, and according to BC Wildfire Information Officer Sam Bellion, it is now ranked as being held. “Last night, they did blanket it in retardent. Crews worked through the night to action the western side of the fire. This morning, when we saw that update to the size, they also observed just rank one low smoldering ground fire along the north and west flanks as they were patrolling this morning. They're going to be working some more on active pockets of that rank along the southern edge today and working towards that containment. So, it's looking really good,” she said. Cortes Currents has an as yet unconfirmed report that ‘the fire was started by a tree falling onto a powerline very near the intersection of Bold Point Road and Surge Narrows Road. It burned uphill a short distance into a 20 year old woodlot. Forestry was on it with helicopters very quickly. No evacuation alerts or orders were issued.' Bellion stated, “I've heard that rumor as well at this point in time. The only thing I can see on our reports is that it is suspected to be human caused, and that would certainly fall into that category. anytime there's an interaction with fire and interface - power lines, any type of machinery like power lines or electricity, chainsaws, industrial activity - any of those would be human starts. Right now, I don't have any confirmation that it was a tree or wind. So all I can see on my report it was the suspected human caused. ” This fire was first reported to BC Wildfire Service at 3:36 PM Thursday August 17th. CC: People are concerned because of the dryness of the islands. They're also concerned about the wind. Being as we're talking about a small fire, is there any reason to be overly concerned? Bellion: “The province did see a dry cold front sweeping through yesterday and today, and it does bring increased winds. Those increased winds always have that potential for extreme fire behavior with this fire. Specifically, crews have worked hard to change that status to ‘being held' and are working on that southern flank to mop up those little pockets of more active behavior. So we're feeling really great about that and we just remind everyone, especially when there's a wind event, and especially when we're coming off the back of a heat wave, to be cautious, to be careful, and to keep your eyes open. So one of the ways folks can help us is to call us if they see smoke and report a wildfire using *5555 from a cell phone, or if they have the app downloaded on their phone, they can submit a photo directly from the app as well. A news release from the SRD News service adds that “ at this time, there is no risk to critical infrastructure or homes and there are no evacuation orders or area restrictions. The roads are open and not currently impacted by the fire. However, residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid the area.”

THE BAY - LAKE OF BAYS TASTING - JUNE 14 2023 by Hunters Bay Radio
Today is the 61st anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game……and we're less than a week away from Damian Lillard scoring 71 against the Rockets. You don't need a cool video on that, it just happened and it's all over the internet.I noticed on the list of all-time 70-point games that Lillard's was the first in the month of February. Indeed, according to Stathead, the all-time record for the month had been 68 by Pete Maravich in 1977. Naturally, I wanted to find out the rest of the monthly records, so I did, and here they are…January: Kobe Bryant, 81 (Lakers vs. Raptors, 2006)February: Lillard, 71 (Trail Blazers vs. Rockets, Sunday)March: Chamberlain, 100 (Philadelphia Warriors vs. Knicks at Hershey, Pa., 1962)April: David Thompson, 73 (Nuggets at Pistons, 1978)May: Charles Barkley, 56 (Suns at Warriors, 1994 Western Conference first round)June: Michael Jordan, 55 (Bulls vs. Suns, 1993 NBA Finals) and Lillard, 55 (Trail Blazers at Nuggets, 2021 Western Conference first round)July: Giannis Antetokounmpo, 50 (Bucks vs. Suns, 2021 NBA Finals)August: Lillard, 61 (Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks at Bay Lake, Fla., 2020)September: Jamal Murray, 40 (Nuggets vs. Clippers, 2020 Western Conference semifinals)October: Chamberlain, 59 (San Francisco Warriors vs. Knicks, 1962) and James Harden, 59 (Rockets at Wizards, 2019)November: Chamberlain, 73 (San Francisco Warriors at Knicks, 1962)December: Chamberlain, 78 (Philadelphia Warriors vs. Lakers, 1961)Lillard now owns or shares three of these records, two thanks to the coronavirus pandemic schedules. Chamberlain still holds three of the monthly scoring records that he set in the calendar year of 1962.There's a lot more from this rabbit hole to come. Stay tuned! —JS This is a public episode. Joined by one of our fantastic tour guides, Diane Whiting, we look at some of the restaurant options in the Magic Kingdom Resort area. Our first stop on this excursion is the Grand Floridian with some pretty tempting dishes. We wander into the Polynesian for some inspired bits, and then stop by the Contemporary Resort to talk about the view while grabbing a bite to eat. We also take a little trip across the Seven Seas Lagoon into the Bay Lake area to check out the Ft. Wilderness Campground and then we finish our journey at Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort for some fun and one very interesting Character dining option. I hope you aren't hungry, but you may be after listening to this tour of Disney Conversations. Do you have some favorite treats at one of these resorts? Hop over to the Disney Conversations Facebook group and chime in! Until next we meet, tourists... TTFN --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/matthew-wallace9/message

Pete, Shannon, and Sam from DCL Duo discuss the delay of the Disney Wish maiden voyage and the impact on the DVC member cruise. For DVC direct sales, 50% of the Big Pine Key building has been declared and DVC releases significant discounts on Bay Lake Tower. Hollywood Studios will have extended evening hours for one week in lieu of Magic Kingdom beginning April 13th. N069 Season 7 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rentals Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Disney Wish Maiden Voyage and DVC Cruise delayed Disney has sent e-mails to all members scheduled to cruise on the DVC cruise on June 14th. The e-mail stated as follows: “While we are all eagerly awaiting the ship's debut, today we must share that our anticipation will unfortunately have to extend a bit longer than initially planned. The shipyard has notified us that despite their very best efforts, they will need more time to finish our ship due in part to the pandemic and particularly the arrival of the Omicron variant in Germany at a critical point in the process. As a result, we are left with no other choice than to delay our maiden voyage until July 14, 2022. This will regrettably affect the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise for which you have a reservation. Since you were booked on the exclusive Disney Vacation Club cruise, we will automatically shift your reservation to the new Member sail date, July 19, 2022, at a 50 percent discount. If you are unable to move to this new date, you will have the option of either a 50 percent discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023, with all reservation points and monies applied to that future cruise, or a full refund, including reimbursement of any cash and/or the return of any reservation points used for your reservation.” It's important to note the difference between “Reservation Points” and “DVC Points”, as once points are converted to “Reservation Points,” they do not convert back to DVC Points. Source: Disney Cruise Blog 50% of Grand Floridian Big Pine Key Building declared as part of Condo Association In a series of filings with the Orange County Comptroller's office, Disney Vacation Club has amended the Ground Lease, Declaration of Condominium and Membership Agreement to begin adding the "Phase 2" units to its Grand Floridian timeshare development. A total of 101 Resort Studios were added to the program, representing half of the 202 rooms which make up the project. The rooms formally added include most of the 3rd floor, plus all of the 4th and 5th floors of the Big Pine Key building. While these filings move Disney Vacation Club closer to selling additional points at the Grand Floridian, no prices or sale dates have yet been disclosed. With Disney's Riviera Resort, sales began about one month after similar declarations were filed. For reference, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge opened sales just 15 days after such filings. Source: DVC News Extended Evening Hours switch to Hollywood studios for one week According to Disney Website - On Wednesday, April 13th, extended hours will be offered at Hollywood Studios instead of the usual Magic Kingdom hours. Magic Kingdom extended hours return to the rotation the following week. It is not known at this time what rides will be available at Hollywood Studios during the extended hours. Source: Disney World Website Deep discount on direct points at Bay Lake Tower Tim Krasniewski over at DVC News has indicated a current special incentive from Disney for Direct purchase at Bay Lake tower, with up to a $48 discount on points purchase. Remember, base price for BLT is $245 but discounts this large are rare for sold-out resorts. For example, 200 points a new member would receive a $26 discount to $219, while an existing member can add-on 200 points with a $43 reduction bringing the price down to $202 per point. This compares to $194 right now for 200 points at Riviera. So if you are a BLT superfan and insist on buying direct - now may be the time. Offer ends March 2nd. Soundscapes: Wilderness Lodge Christmas Follow along with the show notes below! Want More Here With The Magic? Visit The Website: https://herewiththemagic.com Watch Here: https://www.youtube.com/HereWithTheMagic Connect on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/herewiththemagic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/herewiththemagic/ ---------- (3:00) A destination in its own right and beloved for decades, Disney's Wilderness Lodge is perhaps the warmest, coziest, and most inviting of the more than two dozen resorts scattered across Walt Disney World. That truth only becomes even more evident at Christmastime. Imagineered to resemble a great lodge, this grand timber-clad hideaway promises fire-lit evenings, magnificent details, and a welcome respite from the cold…real or imagined. Nestled among a forest of towering pines, the lodge seems an extension of the wilderness, blending in with the woodland all around. At the entrance, a choir of a cappella carolers carries a cadence of reverence and anticipation, of hope and utmost tranquility. They are setting the tone for the cozy winter scene before us, the silent night in the heart of the wilderness only broken by their vibrato. Here, the entryway portico reveals the first signs of yuletide cheer, but as we move into the atrium beyond, we are irrevocably awestruck by the splendor before us. (4:00) Four columns of bundled logs, representing the four corners of the world, surround a six-story spruce tree that has been commissioned for the holiday season. A vast cathedral with a jaw-dropping centerpiece, the tree stands triumphantly at the heart of the lobby, decorated with curations from the depths of the wilderness. Intricately carved wooden animals, poinsettias, pinecones, and flickering tepees adorn each branch, honoring the natural world that inspires every corner, every moment found within this Magical place. The four striking tepee chandeliers frame the Christmas scene with perfect symmetry, bathing it in a warm glow and serving as a reminder of the native people who revered and cherished every rock, tree, and creature as a gift from the Great Spirit. At the culmination of each year, their celebrations were not to do with prosperity or power, but rather were used as a time of reflection, a time to of pause and of peace and gratitude. (5:45) The hootin' and hollerin' merriment over at Whispering Canyon Café is infectious, lifting our spirits and making us smile involuntarily as watch families roar with laughter at the silly yuletide antics of the cowboys and cowgirls who gallivant around the dining room. The clatter of forks on tin plates and the wafting scent of old-fashioned barbecue are almost enough to divert us from our tour, especially at the prospect of freshly baked cornbread and sweet apple pie. (7:03) The revelry and joy Here are infectious as the mouthwatering aromas. They remind us of holidays at home, gathered together with people we love around tables groaning with delicious food, sharing stories and creating priceless memories. The echoes of those stories come back to us Here, unbidden but profound. They remind us of how important it is to cherish the gift of each moment while it is ours to have and hold, and of the transcendent Magic of the holiday season. (8:41) After that boisterous interlude, we cross the lobby and are reacquainted with the contemplative ardor of this space, now inviting us to rest and be still in the presence of the elements: earth, fire, wind, water. (10:22) To that end, we come across a charming little bridge at the mouth of Silver Creek, a babbling hot spring that pulls the eye outside toward the wandering waterway beyond. It is Here that we notice more festive details to highlight the rustic merriment in the air. Ribbons in patterns of Buffalo plaid and patterned wooden canoes accent wreaths and garland, strung up along the little footbridge and on the wall of windows leading out into the winter twilight. (11:28) All around the Lodge, the holiday nuances shift as we find ourselves moving from one area to the next. The bright red accents found throughout the lobby are joined by their patriotic counterparts as we enter Territory Lounge, a homey little den where friends can gather to share a festive libation and stories of holidays past. (12:22) Here is where the first true notes of those beloved holiday carols greet our ears with glorious song, brightening the spirit of even the Grinchiest traveler. Pull up a chair and enjoy something that tastes of the season… a Hot Toddy or an Irish coffee? Perhaps some piping hot fondue to crowd around? Let it be a balm to the chill that lingers from outside as we spend a moment in this cozy space. (13:49) Let's make our way, now, back into the silent winter's night and away from the echoes of revelry still rising above the chorus of carols in the main lodge. Down the pathway we go, along a wide bridge lit by lanterns. It is still but for the brass symphony of “Good King Wenceslas” and ”Little Drummer Boy.” Where are we headed, you might be wondering? What could possibly extract us from the allure of the main lodge, the cozy merrymaking? (15:11) Upon entry into the rotunda of Boulder Ridge, all our confusions are allayed. Neither as grand nor as imposing as the lobby we just visited, Boulder Ridge is a chamber of timber and stone, a four-story retreat from its busier counterpart Here too, a Christmas tree stands at the center of the cavernous room, large and elegant in its own right. Its glow casts light all around the circular space, upon patterned rocking chairs and into hidden nooks. (16:23) A fireplace dances jovially in a hearth set into the far wall, beckoning us into a vacant rocking chair in the wake of its warmth and light. The swell of holiday song reverberates around the rotunda, a private Christmas concert we can enjoy from the fireside mezzanine. Flames flicker away and music rises and falls in tandem. Time stands still and, for a moment at least, all is well. As we rock back and forth in rhythm with the orchestra, we realize that what we have really found Here in this place is the sought after tranquility so ubiquitously associated with this time of year. Impervious and resting like snowfall on the tips of tree branches, peace is a gentle presence. Like a friend who takes a seat next to you by the open hearth, not speaking or making a sound, peace is a comfort to the weary and worn, to those who have known trials and strife in the year gone by, and to those who simply need to know that they are not alone. You are not alone, not Here in this place where so many memories have been etched into the edifice of rock and stored in the rings of centuries-old reclaimed timber. These moments, of happiness, of peace and togetherness, are brought back to life in a special way this time of year. (17:20) They move like snowflakes, softly and quietly, and like Magic, undetectable by human eyes and yet felt as ardently as heat from the firelight. They twirl about and echo with the laughter and joy of generations, gladdening our spirits and revitalizing our souls. We know them, their sense of wonder and their delight at the Christmas season. We feel it too, as though they were seated by the fireside With us, sharing stories and hopes and dreams for the year to come. Still, the starry night outside calls to us, and a moonlit stroll along the edge of the forest is Magical in the winter stillness. (19:28) We hear the distant sounds of a waterfall calling from the wilderness, the horns from the nearby boat dock punching through the peaceful night as they make their final journey across Bay Lake before retiring for the evening. (19:59) The acoustic strum of the holidays surrounds us Here too, but as we make our way to the intoxicating aroma of campfire cooking at the water's edge, we find our nostalgia once again ignited as the electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds of the Water Pageant reach our ears. (21:54) With an extra skip in our step, we follow the lights and sounds along the lakeshore, past the now dormant Fire Rock Geyser, and around the unusually empty Silver Creek Springs pool. On a cold night like this, and given the lateness of the hour, swimming seems an unlikely activity. Even so, the glassy surface reflects the moonlight, giving it a mesmerizing, ethereal glimmer. The revitalizing breeze brings us out of our reverie and into the present moment as we make our way along the winding pathways and footbridges toward the rush of Silver Creek Falls. We hear the babble of Silver Creek as it drifts along toward the picturesque waterfall, drowning out any sounds of caroling, of pageantry, or boats ferrying guests. (25:09) The gentle strum of a guitar plays into the night the sounds of the Solstice, serene and somehow part of the woodland fabric all around us. Violins glide through the melody like skaters on a frozen lake, so free and limitless in the capacity of their song. (26:41) Following the path alongside Silver Creek, we are brought once again into the luminescent radiance of the main lodge, its wall of high windows offering blurred visions of the people within. Like a scene from a beloved holiday story, we watch children's eyes mirror the dancing firelight, wide and in awe of the holiday wonderland they have found. We watch couples holding each other close, families reunited around the Christmas tree. (31:14) It would be impossible, standing out Here in the damp night air, to resist being part of such an enchanting scene. Rather than disrupt the holiday greetings and “welcome homes,” we find rest on the fringes of the scene, a sleek, high-backed rocker in front of the 82-foot tall Grand Canyon fireplace. Its massive stone structure and elaborate iron grate are a focal point in the absence of the opulent Christmas tree, but in this Norman Rockwell scene it instead offers a quiet, unassuming vigil; a refuge for anyone seeking a cozy moment of pause by the comforting blaze. (33:13) It is Here, on the outskirts of the yuletide cheer, that we are able to observe the true Magic of this place come to life. Elevated to its pinnacle in its overlay light and color, warmth and grace, Disney's Wilderness Lodge is a space for every kind of celebration. Whether you find yourself Here surrounded by loved ones, or in seeking solitude and reflection on your own, this space is comfort and joy in equal measure. It wraps us all in the resonant warmth of the season, unbiased and indulgent, in a welcome that makes us feel so very much at home, no matter how far from home we really are. (37:50) However your holiday season is taking shape, whatever draws you Here in heart or in spirit, it is our hope that you will know peace in this place that resounds like the choir of carolers now bidding us goodnight. We hope you will feel comforted by the undeniable presence of holiday cheer. (42:00) And on a silent, snowy night nestled in the valleys of the Pacific Northwest, a roaring fire calls you to rest in its cozy, incandescent glow. Whether weary from all that you've carried so far or alight with the joy of this season of hope, there is space held for you Here. This moment, this glorious time of year, is yours to be present in, yours to find comfort in, yours to know lasting peace. Be Here With the Magic of the holidays, the Magic that is found on a cold winter's evening in this haven in the heart of the wilderness.

This edition of the Life of Fitz podcast features host Tim Fitzgerald calling his friend and former Kansas State University president Jon Wefald, who altered the downward spiral of the university while serving as its leader from 1986 to 2009. Wefald and his wife, Ruth Ann, now live on Bay Lake, which is about two hours north of Minneapolis. During Wefald's tenure in Manhattan, he lifted enrollment from around 16,000 to 24,000, he elevated the University's ability to fundraise and earn research funding, built a new library and art museum, but he also refused to give up on the school's tragically bad football program and hired one more coach: Bill Snyder. Without Jon Wefald, what we now know as Kansas State's reality would be dramatically different and the school certainly wouldn't be a member of the Big 12 Conference. Why? Well, aside from the fact that dropping football would have pushed K-State out of the Big Eight, it was in big part thanks to Wefald's vision that the Big 12, a combination of the Big Eight and four former Southwest Conference schools, became reality. In addition to all of that, Wefald and former United States Senator Pat Roberts were the driving forces behind Manhattan landing the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility, which is nearing completion due east of Bill Snyder Family Stadium on the edge of the Kansas State campus. *** Tim Fitzgerald is a sports journalist who writes, does TV, radio and is a long-time podcaster. He has served as publisher of GoPowercat.com, a website that focuses on Kansas State sports, for more than 20 years. Listener Appreciation DayThe Walt Disney World Resort, also called Walt Disney World and Disney World, is an entertainment resort complex in Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, Florida, United States, near the cities of Orlando and Kissimmee. Opened on October 1, 1971, the resort is owned and operated by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, a division of The Walt Disney Company. It was first operated by the Walt Disney World Company. The property covers nearly 25,000 acres (39 sq mi; 101 km2), of which half has been used.[4] The resort comprises four theme parks(consisting of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom), two water parks, 27 themed resort hotels, nine non-Disney hotels, several golf courses, a camping resort, and other entertainment venues, including the outdoor shopping center Disney Springs.Designed to supplement Disneyland in Anaheim, California, which had opened in 1955, the complex was developed by Walt Disney in the 1960s. "The Florida Project", as it was known, was intended to present a distinct vision with its own diverse set of attractions. Walt Disney's original plans also called for the inclusion of an "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow" (EPCOT), a planned community intended to serve as a testbed for new city-living innovations. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, during the initial planning of the complex. After his death, the company wrestled with the idea of whether to bring the Disney World project to fruition. However, Walt's older brother, Roy, came out of retirement to make sure Walt's biggest dream was realized. Construction started in 1967, with the company instead building a resort similar to Disneyland, abandoning the experimental concepts for a planned community. The Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in the complex, in 1971, followed by Epcot (1982), Disney's Hollywood Studios (1989), and Disney's Animal Kingdom (1998). It was Roy who insisted the name of the entire complex be changed from Disney World to Walt Disney World, ensuring that people would remember that the project was Walt's dream.

This week on an all new episode of Drunk Distory presents ‘The Dark Ride' we stumble down to an old fashioned swimming hole to drink the now defunct Disney legend - River Country! That's right, just off the shores of Bay Lake once stood Disney's first water park. It closed in 2001 and sat abandoned for almost 2 decades and in the process gained a cult-like following thanks to some creepy footage captured by urban explorers. It's since been demolished, but the fond childhood memories splashing around in it's muddy waters still remain. So, will this once beloved water park rise past the levee or will it break and let in a brain eating amoeba? There's only one way to find out!
This week on an all new episode of ‘The Dark Ride' we invite you to join us at our Virtual Tavern as we wax poetic about all things Disney while downing some ice cold beers! On this particular bar trip we discuss what the first day of each of our Disney World vacations usually looks like, our favorite Disney World Resorts, and the most dangerous thing Ryan has ever done at Disney! Any guesses what it might be? There's only one way to find out!

There is not a bus option home from Epcot to the Contemporary. At the end of the night after Illuminations the line for the monorail is nuts, and that will still require a transfer at the TTC (also nuts). To avoid that mess, you can take a bus to the Wilderness Lodge and then wait just a moment and get on one of the busses dropping off from Hollywood studios or Animal Kingdom. They are shared with the Contemporary, which is the next stop. If staying at Bay Lake Tower, the bus stop is much closer than the monorail stop, too!” You might also consider exiting Epcot via the International Gateway, taking a bus from Beach Club to Magic Kingdom, and walking to Bay Lake Tower. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to experience and review one of the oldest shows currently running at Walt Disney World, the Electrical Water Pageant! Recorded on May 26, 2017. Bonus content for this episode is available to the Saturday Morning Media Patreon Patrons. Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia Intro Bumper by Paul of Window to the Magic - http://www.windowtothemagic.com INTRO TRANSCRIPT We've got something a little different this episode as we take a look at a classic Walt Disney World attraction that is not inside one of the four parks but on the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon! It is the Electrical Water Pageant! It’s not listed in any guide maps, but it is described on the Walt Disney World website in the following manner: Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade. Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. 1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World. 2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent! It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape. 3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977 4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel. 5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade! The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant! Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant. If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording. And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. This week, Merlin introduces John to a thriving culture of internet busybodies. What happens when we’re only ever exposed to people who look or think like we do? What would we do with free access to an all-you-can-eat Fun Dip buffet? In follow-up, John learns about “Bay Lake,” but badly confuses his celebrity folk heroes. Around a YouTube series Merlin a perimeter creates. Your hosts debate which movies really are mostly terrible. (_Murrrrrph!_) Also, Merlin’s Netflix account gets borrowed for a morning. The main topic this week is _Merlin’s documentary obsession_. Turns out: there are a lot of turns-outs. John and Merlin explore what’s so tantalizing (or off-putting) about some documentary films—as well as the whole genre as a thing. Merlin suggests watching A Meditation on the Possibility of Romantic Love In the South During an Era of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation, and John is very reluctant to recommend 18 hours of New York history. Merlin learns how Jesus died. (_Recorded on Tuesday, December 20, 2016_)

In News from Walt Disney World this week, we’ll look at the Christmas Day Parade taping schedule, new dining offerings in the parks, a new way to celebrate your child’s birthday, and the new, ultimate thrill ride at Walt Disney World. December brings us not just the holiday season and a great time to visit Walt Disney World, but the annual gathering of Disney fans from around the world as past of the annual MouseFest event. This week, I enlist the help of a MouseFest veteran and first-timer in Glenn Whelan and Greg Grimsley to join me to talk about the event, planning for it, tips for getting the most out of the experience, my events, and more. Whether you’re attending this year, thinking about joining us in the future, or even if you’re not sure what MouseFest is or if it’s right for you, I think you’ll find this to be both helpful and fun. From future events to Walt Disney World of the past, this week I’ll once again take you aboard my Wayback Machine to Discovery Island, the tropical island paradise on Bay Lake that for years entertained guests with everything from pirate lore to exotic plants, birds and animals. Ryan Wilson is my co-pilot this week as we look at its history, numerous storylines, rumors and possible future. I’ll announce the winner of last week’s World Showcase contest, and give you another new question for this week’s contest, as well as a special Thanksgiving treat before playing some of your voicemails, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. You can email the show at lou@wdwradio.com or call the voicemail TOLL FREE at 1-888-703-2171. Visit the web site at wdwradio.com. Video of a Disney Fishing Excursion at Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon
In this episode I hung out with folks in town for Mousefest 2005 and RADP 10. We went to the Ft. Wilderness Campfire Sing-a-Long and then to the Electric Water Pageant on the shore of Bay Lake. Note: The Campfire Sing-a-long is cheesy, yet just what you'd expect from a campfire sing-a-long, so it's fun! I edited the songs down to easy to listen to chunks since the sing-a-long is 30 minutes long. Plus Jeff wraps up trip #1 at DL!Show Links: Music: Michael Andrew and SwingerheadDon't forget to donate an unrwapped toy for a child in need at Toys for Tots or a similar organization.Have fun!
