Unleash Your Inner Creative with Lauren LoGrasso

What's your biggest dream? Today's guest's biggest dream was to write. On the show we will reveal how she achieved that dream after many years of envisioning it, working toward it, getting close and then finally taking the leap and getting her big break. For the past several years she has made her living writing for TV on shows like  KIPO AND THE AGE OF WONDERBEASTS, JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS, and MY LITTLE PONY: MAKE YOUR MARK. She's also explored younger audiences, writing for shows, such as Nickelodeon's BOSSY BEAR and Mattel's THOMAS & FRIENDS: ALL ENGINES GO!  Leore's story is one I wanted to tell because once we moved to LA, I learned that I actually had a significant impact on her creative journey. It's an important reminder that one sentence of encouragement can really change the course of someone's life, and then when you see a talent in someone, you should never be afraid to reflect it back to them. It's also just a testament to what belief in YOURSELF and your creativity can do. From this conversation you'll learn:-The power in complimenting ones creative work-How to keep your creative passions alive while working a day job-The behind-the-scenes process of writing for the screen-How to build your connections & get your start in Hollywood -How to overcome imposter syndrome & build unwavering faith in yourself and your talent Also, a little reminder that In the month of April, Unleash Inner Creative is collaborating with Michigan State University's (My Alma Mater's) student-run radio station, Impact 89FM. Each week this month, you'll hear from a remarkable MSU student or alumni who is doing great, creative work out in the world and/or on campus. These episodes will air on both the Impact radio station, 89FM, as well as on the usual Unleash Your Inner Creative podcast feed.Vote for Unleash in the Webby Awards HERE: https://vote.webbyawards.com/PublicVoting#/2024/podcasts/shows/creativity-marketing -Remember to subscribe/follow the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Stāsta vēsturniece un grāmatas "Elegantā Rīga" autore Inita Saulīte-Zandere Starpkaru Latvijā galvenais noteicējs apģērbu pasaulē bija drēbnieks, jo apģērbu rūpniecisku ražotņu vēl nebija. Vienkāršākos apģērbus varēja pašūt pie kādas no neskaitāmajām šuvējām vai pati mājsaimniece, jo daudzās mājās bija šujmašīnas. Cita lieta, ja bija nepieciešams kostīms, uzvalks vai mētelis. Tam kvalitāti garantēja tikai laba drēbnieka darbs un augstvērtīgs materiāls. Drēbnieku saimes augstākā līga bija amata meistari, kas ietilpa Rīgas Mazajā ģildē jeb Svētā Jāņa ģildē. Šie apmēram 50 meistari varēja lepoties ar tiešām augstu kvalifikāciju, lielākā daļa no viņiem bija sākuši darba gaitas vēl 19. gadsimta beigās, turklāt papildinājuši zināšanas un pat strādājuši Parīzē, Berlīnē, Londonā u. c. Eiropā, un viņiem bija milzu pieredze un autoritāte. Pieminēšu vien dažus no viņiem: Kārlis Ence, Aleksandrs Placis, Andrejs Bekers, Kārlis Pops, Jēkabs Meibergs. Viens no mūsu vecmeistariem Kārlis Berris jau 1883. gadā bija uzrakstījis savu pirmo grāmatu arodizglītībā “Vadons drēbju sagriešanā”. Viņa slavenākais darbs “Drēbnieku skola” kļuva par īstu bestselleru, piedzīvojot astoņus izdevumus. 20. gados Berris vadīja piegriešanas mākslas skolu Lielajā Jēkaba ielā 30. Kārlis Berris bija arī pirmo Latvijā izdoto modes žurnālu redaktors. Jelgavā 1900.–1901. gadā iznāca žurnāls “Modes Vēstnesis”, bet no 1923. gada Berris bija žurnāla “Jaunās Parīzes Modes” redaktors, žurnāls iznāca ziņu aģentūras LETA paspārnē. Turklāt gatavo apģērbu veikalu ‘īpašnieki nereti noveda savus uzņēmumus līdz ļaunprātīgam bankrotam, attiecīgi izvairoties no ienākumu nodokļa samaksas, tādējādi gūstot peļņu un graujot godīgu konkurenci. Drēbnieki tika pakļauti Amatniecības kamerai, tika likvidētas agrākās amatnieku organizācijas, nacionalizējot to īpašumus, to skaitā Mazo ģildi.

On April 12, 1972, the Chinese national ping pong team arrived in Detroit, the first unofficial visitors from the People's Republic of China to the United States since the establishment of the PRC in 1949. One of the many excited people waiting on the tarmac to welcome the team was Jan Berris – at that time a program associate with the National Committee, now its vice president. Fifty years later, on April 12, 2022, Jan Berris shared stories of the historic process – from the funny to the momentous – and reflected on the enduring legacy of Ping Pong Diplomacy on U.S.-China relations. Jan Berris has been with the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations since 1971 – beginning as program associate, moving on to program director, and vice president. She is responsible for overseeing all program activities of the Committee: this includes the preparation and execution of hundreds of Chinese delegations to the United States, American delegations to China, as well as NCUSCR's Track II programs, and other flagship programs. Given her familiarity with the Chinese media at the time, the U.S. State Department asked her to coordinate Chinese press activities during Premier Deng Xiaoping's February 1979 visit to the United States, and she has been the lead for the Committee's hosting of major welcoming events for all of the most senior Chinese leaders. Prior to joining the Committee, Ms. Berris was a foreign service officer, stationed in Hong Kong and Washington, D.C. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan.

In this week's episode of Sinica, we are proud to announce that we're joining forces with SupChina. We're also delighted that our first episode with our new partner is a conversation with President Stephen Orlins and Vice President Jan Berris of the National Committee on United States–China Relations, recorded at their offices in Manhattan. Since 1966, the same year that China's Cultural Revolution began, the National Committee has been the standard bearer for a deeper understanding of the increasingly vital relationship between the United States and China. This month marks the 50th anniversary of the organization's founding. From 1976 to 1979, Orlins served in the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State, first in the Office of the Assistant Legal Advisor for the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and then for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. While in the latter role, Orlins worked on the legal team that helped set up diplomatic relations with China. Berris has been a major force behind the visits of hundreds of American and Chinese delegations to each other's countries, including a journey undertaken in 1972 by the Chinese table tennis team, part of an exchange that became known as Ping Pong Diplomacy. We want to say a huge thank-you to David Lancashire at Popup Chinese in Beijing for six wonderful years of partnership. Best of luck to you, Dave! Please take a listen and send us feedback at sinica@supchina.com.   Recommendations Jeremy Goldkorn: The Chinese Mayor, a film by Zhao Qi Steve Orlins: This Brave New World: India, China and the United States by Anja Manuel Jan Berris: America has Never Been so Ripe for Tyranny by Andrew Sullivan Kaiser Kuo: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (particularly the Second Epilogue on historiography)

Tormented genius Nick Fallon was shot through the heart on NBC's Days of Our Lives, and now everyone wants to know who's to blame! On today's Daytime Confidential podcast, Jamey Giddens and Luke Kerr welcome Blake Berris. Jamey wastes no time in asking Berris if his diabolical character is really "dead-dead" this time. The guys then plunge right into a discussion about the controversial storylines Berris played out during his most recent DAYS stint — from gay bashing WilSon, to trying to rape Gabi, to almost being drowned by a trio of female avengers. The talented actor updates DC on his plans beyond daytime. Will there be more writing and independent film in his future? You'll have to download the podcast to find out. Berris also gets real about what it was like to go head-to-head with the Days of Our Lives "establishment" aka Alison Sweeney (Sami) and James Scott (EJ) in scenes.
